I've been buying here for the best part of 20 years on and off. Reading recent reviews about the chips being so poor.. Unfortunately it's accurate. Perhaps they've starting using cheaper potatoes, which aren't meant to be used for chips, either way the chips aren't what you'd expect from a chip shop, I had to check they weren't oven chips, but they do have bags of potatoes in the back that you can see. Something is completely wrong. I always get on well with the staff. In years gone by I would have rated 5* in an instant, as the food used to be excellent. Going there is meant to be a treat, but it has been a real disappointment. Especially as it has been so good in the past. Getting chips right for a chip shop is pretty much fundamental basics. I don't know if they check their reviews, but if you do... Please change it quickly before you go out of business. It really can't get much worse. I'd like to return and be pleasantly surprised.

First Chinese from here in quite a while, it was very very good indeed. Highly recommended.

Said it shuts at 10 pm i arrived at 21:15 SHUT im a lorry driver so was trying to find somewhere open, very disappointing

Local chip shop/chinese. Only lately been going here for chinese. Its not bad at all. We will continue tonuse this chinese now instead of driving to the nearest town.

The chips are either greasy with excess oil or anemic white,on a bad day the fryer can give you bad bumwees,of another chip shop onped nearby,would shut this place down easy.

Lovely food, friendly staff and fast service. It is takeaway only I don't think they deliver.

So inconsistent unfortunately, occasionally their chips are lovely but 95 percent of the time their greasy and enemic. However, to put into context I've only had their food 4 times max

Terrible place. 15 years using it and it has got worse and worse. Had a still frozen pancake roll 2nd time that happened. The chips are mostly uncooked and raw. Just become horrible and bland with zero interest from the staff to fix the issues .. As for hygiene, found hairs in my food and had a member of staff sneeze over my food once. Avoid like the plauge. Discusting place. One star as it should be a minus not rating it at all.

I bought sweet and sour pork balls and plain boiled rice when I arrived home put the food on a plate to find the meat tasteless it looked like the meat was given a quick defrost before it was cooked the whole meal went in the bin and I bought a nice beef curry from my local takeaway. I will never buy a meal from the Cavalier Fryer again

Excellent food. Great value for money

II had previously complained that the pasty and chips I had bought on two preveous occasions the pasty was inedible because the inside had completely dried out and gone hard to which I was told that does happen, tonight I bought large fish and chips the piece of fish I kid you not was a good foot long unfortunately for three quarters of its length it was only an inch and a half wide so basically all batter with a sinuey chew inside it was disgusting my dog will be gutted as I will not be going back again

Love that they do fish and chips and chinese together! Most of the food is good but sometimes a little rushed and not so keen on the chips, very oily.

Wish I read the reviews before going. Ive never had worse sausage and chips in my life if I wasn't driving HGV I would have took them back DISGUSTING. You should be ashamed of yourselves.

Water has more flavour than their fish and chips. They were absolutely doused in salt and vinegar and still tasted bland!

Tried this place 3 times now & won't be bothering again. They obviously don't do any high level cleaning - thick greasy dust on a/c unit above the serving area - yuk. Very expensive & staff not very friendly; you just get ignored when you say hello!

Very disappointing, bland flavourless Chinese food. Could have been so much better. Never seen prawn toast look the way it looks from here!!! Not good.

Exactly that just ok. Cheesy chips was just a load of cheese dumped on chips most of which ended up stuck to paper. Chips were ok but nothing special, chicken pie dry! It wasnt bad but wasnt good, just OK.

If you’re thinking about going here DON’T. They are the worst fish and chips I’ve ever eaten and the strangest tasting. Smelt disgusting too!!!!! Threw 90%of them in the bin and my tummy is regretting the other 10%.

It seems a nice place, staff friendly and helpful. Nicely situated, there is parking available. They would appear to have a wide variety of options, but, unfortunately, no menu available to take with you to look at later. If they had, I would have given a 5* rating.

Lately chips are pale I suspect cooked at too low tempragure making them taste wierd and bad texture .Shame as staff very nice and good portions

Chips were undercooked and tasted funky. The Saveloy just made me sad.

The food at this place was really good both the fish and chips and the Chinese food as it does both reviews weren't good but I found it very nice and the portion sizes very good or or large and easy to share

Just been here they don’t do card, the chips were whiter than gloss and tasted awful chicken fried rice had no taste put the curry sause above my head and it stayed in the pot would not recommend 🤢

£3.20 for a pastie and £2.50 for a pie is just a pisstake maybe cos there's a caravan park close by it's a joke ripping ppl off is wrong the girls that served me were nice. My meal Singapore chowmain was nice big portion so 2can share

Perfectly nice staff chips were ok the cod on the other hand was not great. I’m always a bit suspect of fish and chip shops that also do Chinese think you need to stick to one thing and do it good. Gotta say the curry sauce wasn’t that bad !!!

Tried it even though reviews had not been great. Obviously I was wrong, I was only getting chips, but not great, just about edible. Not sure what it is they get wrong, old oil, oil not hot enough but something. Chips were greasy, strange aftertaste, not so much undercooked as insides were soft. Even had day old chips reheated in the oven taste better.

Just awful!! Avoid eating anything from here unless you like your food dripping with grease and undercooked

Just had sausage and chips what uter s**t under cooked chips and I don't think there was any meat in the sausages if you want to try the worst chip shop in the south west give it a try

Terrible food....probably the worst chips we've ever had (couldn't eat them which is not like us, especially kuz we were really hungry). Do not, under any circumstances order the chicken nuggets...they were the cheapest quality, processed, minced, uniformly shaped things and were also inedible. The food hygiene standards were also dire...the cashier wore gloves to take money and also wrap chips and also eat food herself and play with her hair and jewellery...the floor and walls of the front of shop area looked like they hadn't been cleaned in years...and the extractor fan on the ceiling was all gunked up with old oil residue. Will not be revisiting...would rather starve!

Great take away but the chips could do with some more time to cook. Usually slightly under done and soggy.

Both the chips and fish were under cooked. Maybe I was just unlucky as seemed popular with locals however I will not be going back to find out.

Fantastic menu choice, fish and chips, burgers and a Chinese selection too, very reasonably priced and generous size portions, friendly staff. Cooked fresh t order and not matter what day of the week are always busy. Do Lunchtime and Senior Citizen specials too. Would highly recommend. Spare rib meat just falls off the bone in a delicious BBQ sauce, a definite must order!

Lovely cod & chips :-) Mmm Good sized portions & the fish was melt in the mouth tastic.
