Not sure what’s going on with this place, been shut for nearly a year, no communication from the owners or updates about an opening date. Very sad.

Well, we wanted to go. We sent an email request and, having had no response, we rang and left a voicemail asking for confirmation. As we didn’t hear a peep we went elsewhere - The Kings Head at Tealby actually (which was lovely). As a previous reviewer has said, The Beck used to be lovely. Don’t know what’s happened but this total lack of customer service means we definitely won’t be going again. Disappointing and, some would say, downright rude.

We came for Sunday lunch. Between us we had the lamb, the pork, and the beef. All of the meats were delicious. The vegetables were very tasty (but not traditional/seasonal veg). It could have been improved with more seasonal veg. I’m not a fan of sugar snap peas in my Sunday roast. The veg was undercooked for our liking, but it had flavour. The pub lacked atmosphere. Perhaps the fire could have been lit? The service was excellent and very friendly. The beers were well kept and there was a good choice. It isn’t a carvery anymore (shame about that). A good pub, but with some room for improvement.

The smallest choice I have ever encountered . This used to be good Now it’s a disaster such a disappointment.

I’ve just realised I’ve been visiting The Beck for over 20 years now for both drinks and meals with friends and family and I’ve never written a review! The Beck for me is home from home and I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve visited. They say a business is only as good as it’s staff, and maybe this is why The Beck has lasted so long with a reputation for a relaxed atmosphere good food and good service. The staff here are friendly, caring and professional, I’ve never been anywhere where I felt so at home as The Beck. Edward, Julie, Theresa, Kieran and not forgetting Trish in the kitchen make the place what it is! In 20 years I’ve never had a bad meal here, the food is excellent, and today did not disappoint. I was treating my parents and wife to a belated Mother’s Day and Dad’s birthday meal out, I had the lamb roast which was sublime and my dad had the blade of beef which in his words was “melt in your mouth” good! My Wife had a chilli and my Mum had the flat bread, which were also very nice and portions are plentiful. My daughter has Dairy and Soya allergies and wanted sausages and mash however the mash had butter in it so they made it with chips instead, she also cleared her plate! If you want to go somewhere with a nice warm friendly atmosphere and excellent food at very reasonable prices then The Beck is definitely worth a visit.

Cosy little place, good service, friendly staff. Good food. The menu isn’t massive but it doesn’t need to be, sometimes there’s too much choice at some establishments

The breakfasts at The Beck used to be lovely but have become very disappointing.I recently had Eggs Florentine for brunch and found it totally inedible because it was swimming in what is best described as a thin butter sauce. Mentioned this to the waitress when paying and her only comment, though polite, was that if I visited again I could ask for the sauce on the side. My companions had bacon that had been burned to a crisp. I see they are looking for new kitchen staff so hopefully the food will improve. But I won’t visit for brunch again.

Seems hit or miss, had Sunday lunch before Christmas and it was very nice, this time not so. First the bread didn't taste fresh like the previous visit, told the waitress my wife would like the red cabbage omitted but turned out it was omitted for all of us. Charging an extra pound for a Yorkshire to those whom do not have beef is stringy. Paid three pounds extra for pork and beef and all they did this time was replaced one slice of beef with pork. Beef and pork was tasty though small portions this time, roast potatoes OK, veg was very hard, the kale felt like chewing grass, lamb was fatty and tough. Yes I could have complained after the meal but I don't go out to make a scene.

Lovely meal and welcome for lunch, just my son and i popping in. Not sure what could be improved! The bouillabaisse was one of the best I have had and my son loved his sausages and mash. Busy for a weekday lunch in Jan which made for a lovely atmosphere. A great chef and team, thank you

Called in for two glasses of wine having not been for a while. Average wine at ludicrously high prices. Shan’t go again. Staff all sat round a table near the kitchen doing nothing at all. Very poor.

Used to go a lot but this year 2022 we have been disappointed went earlier in the year it was OK although 3 of our party had the gammon and said it was salty. My husband and I went December the menu was poor no specials which were always the best and our food was average the bill was astronomic for what we ate . This restaurant used to be the best in nottinghamshire but now we will not be returning. I understand it is for sale which might account for the poor value

Travelled from Nottingham for a family Sunday lunch and it was well worth the 35 minute trip. The service was top notch, the food was great and the atmosphere was friendly and welcoming. I would heartily recommend for Sunday lunch and we will definitely be going again.

Probably the best carvery we have ever had everything, meat,vegetables ,Yorkshire pudding and even the gravy well cooked and fresh the serving staff especially the man who carved the joints very polite and helpful with a smile I would and have recommended the place to all THANKS

We often go for breakfast on a Saturday morning. The food is lovely and the staff are very friendly and polite.

We have a memory from a few, years ago of a busy high class restaurant combined with a bar also serving excellent food. With that in mind we booked for a midweek evening with friends to celebrate our anniversary. It was quiet and the restaurant room was closed. The starter of satay chicken was simple chicken on wooden skewers which we all agreed was plain chicken! On mentioning this to the waitress we were given small pots of satay sauce (fairly obviously from a bottle). Not impressed. Main courses were reasonable but displayed no flair. When I asked for an alternative to garlic butter I was told that the only alternative was parsley butter. Any reasonable chef could easily have come up with an inventive alternative. Service for us was not particularly good. We had to ask to place our order, also to get condiments ( shouldn’t be needed but the satay was totally unseasoned) and had to visit the bar to order a second £27.00 bottle of wine. Sorry, but I expect more for those prices! So….food not living up to what we remembered, but the high price has been retained.

Staying in the local area and visited this pub for dinner on a Friday evening. Absolutely stunning pub, the food was high quality restaurant standard and the staff were really friendly and accommodating. I wish this was my local. Thanks for a great evening.

Myself and my partner visited on Saturday night, we had 3 courses and the food was amazing. The service was fantastic and food was served really quickly. We will definitely come again.

Very , very disappointed to find that one of what used to be one of our favourite places is slipping. Not sure if it’s different owners but the toilets were dirty with stuff all over the door. The table needed a really, good wipe. The food was tasty but some not cooked as well as it used to be. The service was extremely slow and practically non existent-we had to keep asking for various things. I hope it’s a temporary thing but cleanliness should never be compromised.

It doesn’t matter if your just calling in for a drink or a meal the welcome is the same. The staff are outstanding and the service impeccable. We enjoyed a lovely meal and drink outside in the sun. Covid restrictions play a big part at the moment, but everything had been arranged to the finer detail. A refurbishment under way inside too. Love it. Lovely old atmospheric pub, very clean including the toilets. The staff were pleasant. The food was excellent I would definitely go back there .

I have read some recent reviews and am at a loss to honestly feel ...were these folk at the same place?. Hubby treated us today to lunch after having some very difficult recent times (3 family deaths in a month) the service was impeccable, the food was 100%. Our steaks were cooked to perfection. Covid distancing etc was all applied. We had proper skin on hand cut chips, huge mushroom tomatoes all very yummy. This place is a local diamond and we will be back. Ignore the professional moaners, seriously this place is the tops!!! Thank you for such a lovely meal and service, we will return you can count on us.

The Caunton Beck has a long standing reputation for good food, and our meals were all good, with price very reasonable due to the "eat out to help out" scheme.Businesses need to work even harder than ever to win customers back whilst COVID risks remain a feature of everyday life for us allUnfortunately, this place does not seem to have got this bit right just yet, so they have not convinced us to return.

Really disappointed to note there was no children’s menu made available. So you are told what’s available with no prices.The female staff we encountered made us feel unwelcome. Comments like” I told you to go inside and read the menu board” “I told you there was no printed menus, its Covid”. I felt like I was at school. An older lady put our food down on the table, with nothing no smile, no enjoy your meal, no request to see if we had everything. Just put down and off she went. Maybe they are not happy to be back at work after lockdown. The food looked nice but fairly under seasoned. Looked better than it tasted. My son has dietary needs, no one spoke to him at all. The lady spoke over him. His meal was awful. He had a burger and the bun was inedible. The server came to collect the food and didn’t mention at all he hadn’t hardly touched it. Chips are on the menu but fries arrive. To me there is a difference. I can get fries from McDonald’s. We wanted resturant quality chips. To me the experience of eating out is as important as the meal quality. Both below par on this occasion. Overpriced and lacking. The only reason I didn’t rate terrible is because the area and building is pleasant.

Making the most of the Gov scheme we headed out to the Caunton Beck.Best Rib Eye steak I've had for a long time...cooked to perfection!!Compared to other local restaurants the staff were not wearing face masks which made us feel slightly anxious and as a result we'd think twice about returning short term.But if you're after an amazing steak..go for it!!

We were returning from Skegness and needed something to eat. We saw the sign and found this lovely pub in a village and we were very glad that we stayed. The pub was absolutely lovely inside. The staff were very helpful and the food was delicious. I can still taste the steak now. Definitely will be returning.

Stopped for lunch. Limited menu due to the virus. But what they produced was excellent.Wife has milk allergy and they went out of their way to accommodate. She had the sea bass fillets. Tenderstem brockeley and pea and sweet potato fritter. I had steak and chips. Both were excellent and the plates were hot. Service was good and friendly. Toilets were clean as was the pub.

We had a confirmed booking here, made a couple of weeks ago, for our wedding anniversary. When we arrived at the booked time we found the place closed up with no sign of life. Attempted phone call went unanswered too. Not impressed - the least they could have done was let us know ? ? We wasted an hour travelling to and from on our wedding anniversary.We've been before and it's usually good but I'm inclined to avoid in the future. There are plenty of other good places to eat that treat (potential) customers properly

Have been looking for a good pub restaurant near Newark since relocating here. Thank goodness for the Caunton Bec which we visited for lunch yesterday. A warm pub for a change with welcoming staff in a clean and well scrubbed environment. Staff friendly and helpful who took a pride in whet they were doing. Food was generous and tasty with a good choice on the menu. we enjoyed our visit and it is now on our list of good places to visit on our own or with guests. Many thanks to you all.

We took a detour off the A1 to find some lunch, and noticed the sign for the Caunton Beck. So glad that we did!It was a Sunday, and we were lucky to find the one table that hadn't been reserved. There were a good selection of dishes on the board, and decent ales on tap, so we settled down to enjoy our meal. We both plumped for the roast beef, which was a generous and tasty serving, with a nice big Yorkshire pud - veg came in a separate serving dish.For pudding, my husband had the sticky toffee pudding, and I had the lemon posset with red berries, which came with a slice of lemon drizzle cake along with more berries - delicious! At £15 for the two courses, we felt it was very good value.The pub itself is warm and cosy, and the bar staff/servers were also warm and friendly.Great place, and now on our itinerary when we're in the area!

My husband and I visited on a Sunday when both bar and restaurant were full. There was a fantastic atmosphere and the food was exceptional. The price is great value for money. Wine and beer menu up there with the best. We noted there was new staff along with ED and Theresa who are so courteous and the service cannot be faulted. Thank you guys. Will see you again soon.

Not been here for many years but decided to visit with family...I thought the vegetarian choice was very poor..I opted for salmon..and at 17.00 was looking forward to it....dissapointed it came on a plate with undercooked parsnip and undercooked broccoli..and that was it..Others had the same and theirs was undercooked too..The others food was ok but not good value..The place itself was warm and cosy but didn't feel a valued customer...no one asked us if I food was ok...I went home hungry and shall not return again...

A lovely location; this place looks better in real life than it does from the photos on trip advisor. The Inn has retained a traditional feel despite having been renovated. The food is good and so is the service. Portion size was reasonable, but if the portions had been slightly larger I would have felt that it was better value. The main course was great as the salmon was cooked perfectly, and dessert was delicious. I felt that the starter was a ever-so-slightly disappointing as the pear needed slightly longer poaching, I feel, and also I would have preferred it cored: but perhaps this is just personal taste. I would be pleased to go back.

We visited the Caunton Beck on the 8th for Sunday Lunch having booked (fortunately) as both the pub and the restaurant were full.We chose from the set menu of 2 courses for £15 and 3 for £18 as both of us only wanted a roast.We both had Beef (Topside) which was superbly cooked and plentifully supplied. The meat, Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes and veg all tasted like the best home cooked meal and although the portions were more than generous we managed to clear our plates. Although we did have to decline the offer of additional vegetables as we wanted to leave enough room for dessert.We again both opted for the same choice of sticky toffee pudding which was excellent. If I was being ultra picky I could’ve done with a touch more ice cream to negotiate the large piece of pudding provided but the dinner, wine, service and prices were all great and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this pub as a great place to enjoy top food in a very friendly atmosphere and environment. Although we don’t live close by we will definitely return.

Trying to find food on a Sunday evening in the area was not easy so thank goodness for Caunton Beck. The pub was very quiet but we understand had been busy early on which probably explained that some mains were not available. Nevertheless we had a good meal with friendly and efficient service. 3 x baked souflee with cheese and bacon and a pigeon breast were our starters. Well cooked and tasty. Lincs sausages and a duck breast followed - again food was very good. Well done - we would return!

Well worth the 25 mile trip ! We’d.been intending to give this place a try for some while. So I took my wife there for our wedding anniversary last night and was very pleased I did. Eight of us have just had a excellent lunch at the Caunton Beck. The staff were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble for them. There was a varied menu to pick from, including a full range of gluten free options. Food preparation was excellent and the servings generous. We all live a fair distance from Caunton but will definitely be returning.

First time visit. Last minute anniversary dinner. Was told was posh food by a mate so I knew I had to book.

After a long meeting refreshment was required and was well delivered! Lovely service and really excellent food! My colleagues had hearty sandwiches and I had a superb seared salmon steak with samphire really delicious and just what was needed .. thank you

Had a lovely roast dinner at this pub on Sunday. Staff were friendly and the service was was good. Food was very tasty. After lunch we went for a walk round the village which was very pleasant.

This is a lovely village pub with restaurant quality food. We were staying at a nearby lodge and called in with two girls aged 10 and 13 for a drink in the lovely garden. It was so pleasant that we returned for an evening meal. The staff were absolutely delightful. They were friendly, professional and able to help one of our girls (fussy eater) to choose an off menu dish she would like. The food quality was excellent and the prices reasonable. Can't think of a single criticism about any dish - and we all had something different.

What a lovely pub, huge menu with fresh ingredients in every morning. Great for those travelling with dogs with a lovely garden outside.

Smoked salmon soufflé tasteless, no smoked salmon. Goats cheese and beetroot salad very good. Plaice soggy and inedible Sausages cremated Standards obviously slipped massively since last visit (about 4 years ago)

Me, the wife, two daughters and a grand daughter, just had a breakfast at the Caunton Beck.

Came for breakfast and we all had a beautiful meal. The poached eggs were cooked to perfection, the smoked salmon beautiful and pretty good coffee too. The weather was beautiful so we sat outside and the lady behind the bar regularly came to see if we needed more coffee. Didn’t realise they did breakfast and they do it to a five star standard. Lovely way to start a day in London. Will be back.

Absolutely stunning restaurant!!!

I visited for Sunday dinner 5th May with my partner who had never been. Surprisingly we got a table straight away. The staff were very accommodating and service very quick . The food was very good. Maybe just lay off the salt in gravy a little. Despite their being a large group dining our food arrived timely. The veg was good and not over cooked. My partner loved the taste of the carrots. Best he ever had were his comments. Well done guys keep it up

My family and I came for a meal this weekend and I have to say we were looked after like royalty and the food was excellent. I would certainly recommend the Caunton Beck to all of my friends for a great meal and fantastic service

We have been coming to Caunton Beck for several years en route to holiday in the Lakes. Have always enjoyed friendly service and good food.

A disappointing meal - several items 'had run out' - even on a Friday and the service was very slow. Food was average and not outstanding for its price

I ordered a (rather expensive) steak which after quite a wait arrived tepid and grey with soggy chips. It tasted like it had been hanging around on a hot plate. My side of vegetables never arrived despite a reminder.

As on all our previous visits, food excellent from a menu with a good range of choices. What has happened to the service. Waited 45 minutes, despite several requests, for drinks and our food order to be taken. Some items not available or insufficient portions available. After taking the order food came promptly, so nothing wrong in the kitchen....it’s just front of house. We could have made a run for it without paying and I’m sure the staff wouldn’t have noticed yet (but we are not like that). So calling for the bill was another extraordinarily long wait requiring a trip from table to bar. In summary, this could have ruined a meal but fortunately, we were not pressed for time. Had we have been, or had I had a client with me, I would have been steaming.

We were having a run out and came across this gem. We were made to feel welcome, a lovely cosy atmosphere. Plenty of selection on the menu and specials board. We had ham tomato and mustard on granary bread with a mixed leaf salad, we had an extra side of proper chunky chips.It was well worth what we paid lovely crusty bread, home roast ham proper chips, the meals looked well presented and tasty, certainly a place that is proud of their cuisine. There is also set menus.

We visited as a family of six, and were very surprised by both how quiet the pub was. The Sunday roast set menu is exceptional and very reasonably priced. Furthermore, the menu goes beyond normal and has some unusual and varied dishes, which is a nice change.

Last Tuesday 22 members of our U3A group enjoyed an excellent lunch wth superb food and a lovely welcome and great service.

Really good gastropub food. Excellent beers, ciders and wine list. You can be informal in the bar or smarter in the restaurant. We like sitting outside too.

My family and I often visit the beck mainly for drinks as we like the pub it’s location and all the staff are all very friendly and helpful and efficient. Unfortunately this visit we thought we would try some food, which in hindsight was a mistake. The starters were ok, nice enough. But the mains were disgusting. Described as buffalo chicken burger, we all received soggy buns and inside were soggy small pieces of chicken wing/leg meat including grisly bits of tendon and the chicken was just cooked, slightly pink worryingly, I sent mine back and my wife and son left some of theirs. A replacement came that was no better, so I left half that was inedible. The fries that came with it were also under cooked and not hot either. We all went home not feeling too great. But fortunately we were not ill. Such a shame. We will return to the beck for drinks but not food.

Called in for meal Saturday night. Lovely setting olde worlde type pub with nice atmosphere. Lots of different beers on. Nice menu. Food was beautiful and service excellent. Would not hesitate to go again.

not been for a long time.same as other people have said, nice starter, but main meal so, so.pub set in nice spot in village, staff friendly.service very slow they were not very busy.not the best but not the worst, will give it a second chance soon.

Had the set course Sunday lunch menu. Starter was fine, but slightly disappointing main. The beef wasn’t the best cut and rather chewy & too much fat. The roast potatoes had been cooked & kept under a heater lamp for a while as they were not nice and freshly roasted! Not enough gravy, had to ask for more & this was slow coming as the restaurant was busy. Vegetables were ok but one pot between two & not enough! Again had to ask for more & slow to come out. Staff were fine, one of the girls behind the bar could be more cheerful though.

The choice on the menu is good. Starters were good. Our mains were hit and miss. The steaks were great quality however fries were soggy/chunky chips were not what I'd call chips and apart from a bit of watercress and a tomato garnish on a couple of the dishes (but not others) that was it. A bit lacking for the money. The real issue though is the service which is dire. 40 minutes to order. Drinks slow. Gave up on desserts and we were not alone as others were walking out after ordering because it was taking too long. I''d understand if it was busy but it wasn't. It really could be so much better.

A beautiful old world pub with amazing food. Thoroughly enjoyed this lovely pub. Staff were very friendly. Food was great. Can’t wait to come back.

Didnt go here in the end, we booked our golden wedding anniversary lunch for family and friends only for the Beck to ring us a week before to warn us that we would have to share the venue with a funeral party of 60 people. We felt very let down and so cancelled.

A typical British pub in a quaint village but with food to the levels you would expect in a top London restaurant.

Visited with our daughter and thoroughly enjoyed our visit . Good selection of beers and wine and the food was excellent and not too expensive . The staff are very friendly and I noticed they allowed you to park there if you had overindulged.

Beautifully situated beside a beck, a charmingly old interior offers a warm welcome, echoed perfectly by the friendly staff. Met family here today for a long lunch - half way between York and Leicester. The meals were superbly presented and absolutely delicious. Recommend the chicken with confit tomatoes and melted Brie; also the gammon and duck egg. Desserts - lemon posset and the sticky toffee pudding also highly recommended. Faultless service and food. We will return!

Went on a Wednesday lunchtime to meet up with six of our friends. The place itself is Avery pretty old building,and once inside it’s very welcoming with a open fireplace.

just had lunch with a group of friends, whilst most of the meals were good my Haddock was not, over cooked and very dry, mentioned this to a member of staff and the response was - was it ! - not good customer relations Canton .

Lovely atmosphere great service and very good food. Good wine list and I was over the moon to be able to not only have a glass of champagne but have a choice! All three of us enjoyed our meal choices and wine. So glad they are open Sunday evenings and judging by the number of tables in use it’s obviously worth it! Staff very pleasant too. A definite to return to next time we’re in the area.

This is one of our local pubs that we recently discovered and what a find it is. Brilliant food, super friendly and attentive staff and a place we now go to for diner weekly.

Beautiful and clean, food was lovely, Barnsley chop and veg cooked to perfection. Staff polite and very attentive. Beautiful position to enjoy a nice meal and relaxing drink. Lovely beer garden

Visited here with family in August having visited a number of times before and not being disappointed, On this occasion we went for Lunch and the food was great quality and a much higher standard than traditional pub food with great specials.

I couldn't believe we had lived not too far from here fior 11 years and didn't know this lovely place was there.Had a very enjoyable meal with good service in pleasant surroundings.

Ribeye steak Couldn't even see it actually was steak it was grey and the fat was like grissle. 20.00 for a bad meal

What a wonderful place. Came for a family meal we were seated in the resteraunt. Then we ordered our food and we was not disappointed food was to die for. Starters were amazing. The rack of lamb was cooked to perfection. Deserts was fabulous. Far better than the bottle and glass. The service was good the only slight downside is we didn't get courtesy checked. But overall we had a really great time and we will be returning for sure. Well worth a visit.

Stopped here several times for bar meals in recent months and the food is very good. The selections for starter / main / desert is good and varied, there is 'an early bird' menu also with reduced selection. The goats cheese starter and sea bream main are my favourites. The service by the staff is polite and not intrusive whilst your eating. Food comes on a warm plates (nice). Sitting in the beer garden whilst review the menus is pleasant. Give it a go.

While visiting from the U.S., I frequented the pub, and throughly enjoyed my experience each time. The food was wonderful, the service was excellent, and the people were welcoming and friendly. I highly recommend this pub for drinks and dinner.

We were squeezed in that night after calling in the day so granted it was last minute but the table wasn't bad. It was in the bar rather than the restaurant which was fine but we were ignored all night. We had to go to the bar to keep ordering our drinks as we were not offered any, we waited ages for someone to take our order and in between our starter and main. The starter octopus starter was cold and really chewy more chewy than you expect for octopus and the salad to accompany was bland. The mains were good and tasted fine however we were never asked if they were ok. We also waited ages for the bill and ages to pay in the end we went back to bar again. They were slightly busy but not overly busy and the bar staff kept seeing us looking at them and would just busy themselves so they didn't leave the bar. Overall disappointed as we used to go such a lot years a go I think it is tired and the service has gone down hill. Also this cost over £50 for two ok courses which you can get so much better food and service for this kind of money. We won't be returning any time soon.

The pub has a lovely outside seating area and the service was very good. I ordered the burger, which was small for the substantial bun, but what really let the dish down was the quality of the mince, as I had to pick quite a few gristly bits out. It was a real shame as the presentation was great, the chips were really good, and there were some interesting choices on the menu. Would consider giving it another go but would try a different dish next time.

Having visited in May for a birthday treat from a friend where I experienced a great evening (which I should have reviewed then!) I suggested Caunton Beck for Father's Day. Caunton Beck is a warm, friendly and inviting country pub and restaurant. A great menu both visits. A special menu for Father's Day, the choice of food was superb. All the staff were suitably attentive and helpful. A really great place enjoyed by all our party. Thank you.
