Used Cathay on a number of occasions and i can only say it gets better everytime the food is off the scale i have never tasted better and i have eaten all over the country keep up the good work

Extremely clean little takeaway place, food is so fresh and nice I went for the first time today and I can’t wait to try different dishes next time.

Portion size, speed of service and food was great. Would be 5 but unfortunately they gave us part of someone else's order. They were very apologetic and gave us two free drinks to make up for the mistake.

I had take away Duck in Plum sauce. On first opening the container I thought wow that’s a lot of Duck. Sadly the Duck was mostly skin & fat, once I had cut the skin & fat off I was left with not a lot of meat! I can’t say the sauce was very nice either. Most of it went in the bin. I’ve used this take away several times over the years, never had an issue before.

I only got around to ordering from here recently. No idea why I waited this long, but I'll definitely be using this takeaway again. Everything we ordered was delicious and fresh. The prawn and sesame toast was probably the best I've had anywhere ... a simple thing, but so well prepared and tasty. I now feel lucky to have this Chinese takeaway as our local.

Moving into the area and needed a meal late Sunday 3rd March. This place only takes cash (who cash around these days?) and was told there was a cash point at the garage next door. The atm was closed because it closed at 7pm at the garage! The nearest was quite a way away that I had to visit. This caused a great inconvenience all because they don't take cards and we all know why that is!! The beef was mostly gristle in the special fried rice but the rest was ok. Nice chicken balls too. Due to the hassle etc. we won't be going back again.

Delicious food and excellent service. We stayed in Strensall for one weeks holiday, we ordered twice in one week as the food was delicious. Definitely better than the Chinese back at home (in Gloucestershire). When we come back to Yorkshire, we will definitely be coming back!

My favourite local takeaway. Have tried others locally but this one is definitely the one I keep going back to. The food just seem better, portions just the right amount for me and the staff lovely and friendly. I'm also fairly certain they don't use MSG as I usually react to it and never had a reaction from here. Particularly love their king prawn dishes, they don't skimp on the prawns and they're usually quite big.

Last Wednesday I bought a vegetable curry and boiled rice just after opening time. I had the meal home and on a pre-warmed plate in 5 minutes. Despite this it was barely lukewarm. The curry consisted mainly of large chunks of broccoli with some chinese vegetables and was pretty tasteless. The rice looked as if it had come out of a microwave pouch. I threw most of it away.

Posting on behalf of my missus really, as I don't like Chinese food. She loves this place and has switched allegiance from the Haxby takeaways she's been going to for years. I have been to collect her order a few times and can say that the staff here are lovely. Incredibly polite and friendly.

Love this little Chinese takeaway, they are always welcoming when you see them. The food is brilliant, I think it's great value for money. It's cash only, but there is a post office next door if you don't have any on you.

I have always loved this Chinese…. Now it’s inedible. Last order was crispy shredded chilli chicken, it was repeated down the phone to me as sweet n sour shredded chicken, I corrected them but they repeated the same order, oh well I thought, my mistake… the food was collected and was what was feared, sweet n sour sauce with “shredded chicken”… this week I have ordered the same again along with other meals…. One of them being sweet n sour chicken balls for my daughter…. The crispy shredded chilli chicken was a exactly the same as the chicken balls in sweet n sour sauce…. I can’t remember being this angry…… you will never see another penny again from me, absolute joke, chefs special yeah right. Rank!!! I’d have had a lot more enjoyment from a McDonald’s chicken nugget 20 piece. Shame on you!!

I telephoned and ordered takeaways for 7 of us and was given an estimate as to when it would be ready. And it was. On time, brilliant service, great value and lovely delicious varied menu. All hot and freshly cooked for us. This isn't the first time we've ordered from here, and it won't be the last.

Family have recently moved to the area so whenever we go over we like to grab a Chinese takeaway. This particular takeaway is the only one in the area so thankfully it's a great one. I have tried the dishes I use to compare takeaways (beef in black bean, shredded chilli chicken) and it's up there on taste and quality and most definitely on value with generous portions that beat us everytime! Would highly recommend if you live locally (no delivery) worth the trip out for your tea and the sweet and sour sauce is fabulous.

It was the first we try dis and it was Absolutely terribleI ordered barbecue ribs and salt and pepper ribsIt was like they were pre warmedI took them in the bin after one taste And the rest of the food wasn't up to scratch as wellI will not use this restaurant again Very 😞👎🤮

On holiday fancied a Chinese meal. Googled it, read the reviews didn't disappoint. Food was very tasty, generous portions, easy ordered over the phone . If back in the area will definitely be back.

I sat and waited for my food for 20 minutes even though we ordered over the phone in advanced for a set time. The food is usually spot on but every other customer has walked in and walked straight out with their food. It seems we have been forgotten. Further to this the person on the phone taking the order was extremely rude and unprofessional. To top it off when we finally received the food it was missing the pancake rolls.

Had a gorgeous take away from here last night. Generous, tasty portions, biggest prawns I've ever had from a takeaway! Will definitely be back for more. 👍🏼😊

Best Chinese in York IMO, I refuse to get Chinese food from anywhere else. Food is always cooked fresh and always excellent quality. Friendly and helpful staff, I have recommended to many and no one i know has been dissapointed. Highly recommend as I have never had a bad meal from there! Thank you to May and the rest of the team at Cathay for the years of great food.

Discovered this take away last year. OMG Really really good food. Each dish has its unique taste unlike some Chinese where everything tastes the same! So glad they’re open again. Service fast. Staff very friendly and accommodating to your needs. All masked and gloved up to keep you and your food safe. Highly recommend

Order was quick. Food was delicious. Definitely recommend the special house chop suey and the roast pork (char suey) chow mein. Friendly staff.

popped in on way home. food was ok but order was wrong, phoned to query and she knew straight away without me saying why I rang. she decided to give me a large curry instead of a curry and rice that i ordered, not sure why!?! she offered to do me a rice to collect but we're not local so declined. Food not special enough to call again, there are better take-aways.

A great variety of Cantonese/Chinese dishes, even on busy nights it is a reasonably quick service. English dishes also available for those whose palette is not suited to the orient.

We ordered a take out tonight (9th Dec 16) for the first time and it is absolutely rubbish! Completely tasteless and the prawn crackers are stale. We will not be returning
