CATCH Fish and Chips - West End in Glasgow City

Go here for the fried fish and other tempura fried seafood. Definitely one of the best fish and chips spots in the UK. Not fancy fare or a particularly fancy atmosphere, just great food! Personally I think their skinny fries are their best fries, but to each their own.

The best F&C's I have had. Looks like your normal shop but they do offer GF options in a separate fryer. GAME CHANGER! Food was fabulous, service was outstanding and the atmosphere was chilled and relaxed. Travelled a long way (from Australia) and was not disappointed. Easy to find and deserves a visit. Add this to your list!! :)

One of the best Fish n Chips in Glasgow. Very helpful and kind staff.

Had a takeaway here and was shocked to pay nearly £10 for a tiny portion of chips and fish. Given the amount your paying I expected alot more. Pickled onions were tiny compared with other chips shops I go to and they added so much salt I couldn't finish the meal . All in all the food was ok but seriously overpriced especially given the portion sizes.

bought large fish supper but the large was 1 cut in half so lityle fish more batter which was really dark and greasy last time golden and nice either oil too hot or needed cleaner oil

A decent portion of fish and chips, tasted good! This is more of a gourmet style fish and chips - I prefer the chips you’d get from a chippy. The salt and pepper chips were the only let down, not what we were expecting. The restaurant layout and decor was very nice and our waiter was exceptionally friendly. Overall great experience 😊

Fantastic food, very friendly staff who could not have tried harder to please. One of our party is gluten intolerant so she was delighted to enjoy fish and chips all prepared in a separate fryer. Don’t pass this place… fantastic!!!

Nice place. Friendly staff. I'd give it a 5 if we hadn't ordered the scampi which wasn't my favourite. The regular battered haddock & tempura King Prawns were phenomenal. We chose 3 different things & shared. Got a great deal on itison. We'll be back to try some other stuff on the menu next time we're in Glasgow.

After seeing a lot about this restaurant online, myself and my daughter visited yesterday. On arrival we were told to go upstairs and take any seat ( we were the only ones there), on climbing the stairs we were sitting in a very strong smell from the fryers, not helped by the open windows that kept the smell from lessening, ordered 2 soft drinks from the list, but one wasn't available. We didn't wait too long for our order to be taken, while waiting I could see over the balcony one one of the girls working continuously pick at her hair while standing beside the service counter and fryers. After a wee while the food arrived, I had the battered fish with the twice fried chips, my daughter opting for the sausage, after a small bite of the crispy fish, I had a chip, or should I say........less than Luke warm chip, my daughter dipped a chip in her curry sauce ( very nice sauce) only to find hers were cold also. I caught the eye of the waitress and asked yo to come to the table, we told her the chips were cold, very apologetically she told us she would get some more. After a while she returned with fresh ones, but by this time we had finished our fish and sausage, but to be honest, the plate the food was served on was cold, .. a basic mistake by putting food that wasn't fully hot on a cold plate wasn't ever going to work. It was a bit disappointing eating hot chips while the cold one were still on the plate , all in all the fish was OK, but, OK only, no more than that, the sausage and curry sauce rated a bit better for my daughter. At £29.90 for the experience..........we weren't overly impressed.

Great food, the place seems to be really clean and well definitely return on our next trip to Glasgow.

This visit today was nowhere as good as 2 previous visits. The chips were cold and tasteless and the fish was ok but the batter was very scrappy. Not good all round.

Delicious fish and chips. The chips were not as crispy as I prefer, but they were still delicious. The fish was some of the best we had in Scotland. If you're looking for a good chippy near you, and this is close, look no further.

ABYSMAL BEYOND BELIEF. Went for takeaway, large panko haddock. .The batter was burnt, greasy,tasted awful, mainly burnt tasting . Inside the fish was dry and so thin. All we tasted was the burnt coating. The chips were terrible. The tartare sauce was terrible. There was nothing redeeming about our meal. They also never salt and vinegared the meal after asking if we wanted salt and vinegar. What a farce!!! Don't visit this place!!!

We visited from the states and really liked the fish and chips here. Definitely worth a try if you're in the area.

Another vote for the amazing gluten free fish and chips! Plus the salt and chili squid. Not many gluten free options, but I went in for the fish and chips and was not disappointed. Both the haddock and monkfish were fresh and flavorful, and the batter was so crisp and delicate, and didn’t overwhelm the fish. Lovely and helpful staff, too. This definitely set the high bar for gluten free fish & chips across continents!

The food and service were impeccable! Well-seasoned batter with a satisfying crunch across their array of deep fried items. Their loaded fritters (pictured) were sensational! The slabs of potato were thick and substantial whilst still crispy on the outside. Each fritter made the perfect vessel to carry their delicious toppings and cheese to give you the perfect bite. They were doing a collab with Little Bao Boy, so there was a range of western and eastern items on the menu. As the vegan fish & chips were unavailable, I ordered 2 baos (£9) aubergine panko and salt chilli tofu as pictured. I was hoping for more aubergine filling but they still tasted good accompanied by flavourful sauces. The seating area upstairs had just enough space to accommodate multiple tables, a bar, and with upbeat music playing softly in the background it felt like the cosiest nook. You can still dine in comfortably, undisturbed by how busy it might get with patrons ordering their takeaways downstairs. The highlight was truly the staff, all of them made us feel so welcomed from the start. The entire establishment seemed to run like a well-oiled machine from dine-in to delivery. Staff went up and down the stairs multiple times to ensure all their patrons whether sit-in and takeaway were well looked after. Thank you!

Took my grandmother for lunch today at Catch Gibson St, we frequently visit at the location at Giffnock and have never had a problem. We are more shocked than anything by the “fish” — all we ate was batter… ended up going for going a Blue Lagoon after which was a margin of the price and no problem. Upon addressing the quality of the food, manager was dismissive. Won’t be back. Bank holiday friday lunch and venue was empty. Now we know why. Wish we had seen the below review before attending.

First of all, being charged £2.75 for a glass of tap water with your meal and only finding out about the charge when the bill arrives (i had ordered and paid for a regular beverage as well) isn't good. Sorry but charging that amount for tap water with no listing on the menu isn't on. Decent fish and chips, the fish in particular which was a chunky portion in a nice crispy batter. The chips could have been hotter. But the tap water fee left such a sour taste that I won't be back.

Catch Fish and Chips is a fantastic fish and chips restaurant on Gibson Street in Glasgow. We had the pleasure of dining there last night and were blown away by the quality of the food and the friendly service. The menu is quite limited, with the fried food being cooked to order and is on a mezzanine above the fish and chips shop. As well as traditional fare, it also has vegetarian options and even bao buns. We started with the prawn tacos, which were absolutely delicious and packed with flavor. The scampi was also a highlight, perfectly cooked and seasoned as was the haddock and chips - the fish was flaky and tender, and the chips were crispy and perfectly salted. Our waiter was incredibly friendly and attentive, making sure we had everything we needed throughout the meal. Overall, we had a wonderful dining experience at Catch Fish and Chips and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for high-quality fish and chips in Glasgow.

Fancied a fish supper and decided to give Catch a try when I was out walking the dog and passing by. It's slightly more expensive than other places and it seemed like a long wait to get served, but it was definitely worth it. The quality of both the fish and the chips was the best I've had yet. Fresh crispy batter on the fish and the chips are soft and fluffy. No grease whatsoever, perfect.

Reviewing the takeout haddock supper: DELICIOUS FISH. Piping hot, super crisp and light haddock. Chips were just there for moral support, a little soggy but reliable. Came with a couple of nicely plump lemon slices and a thick mayo-like tartar. Ketchup and mayo available at the counter if you ask. Ordered online for 6:15 to 6:30 pick up and food was ready close to 6:30. Will come back for the fish which is clearly the star.

Vegan fish and chips & vegan sausage and chips (take away) were AMAZING! Definitely a new go-to takeaway for me now.

We were recommended this place by a good friend so thought we’d give it a try. Ended up having a less than dissatisfying experience. Atmosphere was ok, restaurant was fairly clean, although the toilet was atrocious. After taking our order, we were told they didn’t have two of the drinks and one of the starters we’d ordered. Lemonade was flat and no ice was given with drinks. We waited over 35 mins for our food, watching two other tables, who were seated after us, being served their food. Luckily, the fish was good, because the chips were extremely stodgy and cheap tasting. We weren’t asked at any point by waiting staff if we needed another drink (all of us had finished our first after waiting so long for our food), or if the food was ok etc. We watched as other customers waited to pay their bill for over 15 mins. They then proceeded to give us a bill which was £30 over what we’d spent. Won’t be returning.

Ordered on Uber eats. Whilst food wasn’t warm enough on receipt (Uber fault as usual due to slow delivery). Had to microwave. The food was well prepared, presented, felt premium and was probably the most tasty fish and chips I’ve had in years. The chilli chips option is delicious. Great chippy. 5 starts for the chippy but why are delivery apps making cold takeaways the norm. Wish we could just order direct like the old days and have food delivered warm :-(

Went with family and we mostly all ordered fish and chips! Disappointed isn’t the word. I literally feel like all I ate was batter and the fish was nowhere to be seen. Will never be going back here, nor would I recommend!

Stopped by on Tuesday early evening. Our Orcadian waiter was just the best. Establishment was perfect. One main grudge and disappointment was the fact that the fish was so over cooked that it was dry, had shrunk, was welded to the batter, and the batter was pretty dark in colour. Fish portion size (Reg) was too small compared to other establishments. A ‘beef up’ in fish weight and more attention to much less frying time would have me giving 5 stars. If these simple changes were implemented then ‘Catch’ for me would be visited by me at every chance I have when down from The Highlands at dinner time in Glasgow. Thanks

Amazing food, really tasty! Got the mac and cheese loaded fries and king prawn tacos! Girl that served us was her first day and she was fab!

Got some chips to take out. 3 sizes, S, M &L, ranging from expensive to super expensive. They won't show you the difference unless you ask, then they ration the salt and vinegar when i've paid them near a fiver, so i won't go back. And chips were not moist. EDIT: In answer to your query, pls point to the containers that are behind you when discussing sizes. Female staff member was nice but I feel you should point to them without me having to ask.

Sunday, passing Woodlands Rd. Catch Fish & Chips catch my eye. Best Choice of 5pm. Fresh & tasty, with onion, peas & dip. Plus lovely catching music. 👍❤️

Best batter I’ve ever had.good service, nice atmosphere, overall spot on. Highly recommend this place. Prices were very reasonable too. £25 for a couple of plates of fish and chips.

I few bad reviews but this was not our experience. Visiting the University with my daughter we popped in here for lunch just by chance. I joked about finding vegan fish and chips earlier in the day. Surprised to find it here. They have other vegan options as well. The vegan fish and chips was fantastic. Not sure the makeup but it was NOT a hunk of tofu. More a seitan or pea protein type fish. I should have asked. It was great, the price was right. I can't comment on the mushy peas because I hate peas and did not eat them. Chips could have been a bit crispier, but dipped in the vegan tarter, they were good too. Daughter had the regular fish and chips and she enjoyed that and was happy it did not have the skin on. Will come back when in town again.

First time in ‘Catch’ and it was disappointing. The service was so so slow. We had our small children with us and for a portion of chips for each child took at least 20 minutes. My wife had to go and ask would it be much longer as the idea of fast food here is very much lacking. There was one waitress who was doing all the orders for the tables. She was doing all the drinks as well and payments. I feel if the waitress had some help what we experienced would probably not have happened. People who arrived after us got their food before us which was annoying. Honestly couldn’t recommend the place as it certainly has promise.

Cracking eatery, lovely food great service ! Well worth a visit! Only problem was the stairs, when i visited a small child slipped on the stairs, then I did the same and fell down, im pretty sureties isn't an isolated incident, maybe a waring as you enter the restaurant would make folk aware of the danger! The main hazards is there is no handrail, just a rope, then the the stairs have metal anti-scuff plates, maybe a good idea to rectify...

Measly portion sizes. Please be sure to eat before you visit. Considering the price you would expect an adult portion. Instead you get a handful of chips.

Nothing wow. Just regular fish and chips that is breaded a lot so you feel the bread more than the fish. I also ordered the mac and cheese and was not impressed as I did mot like that the shredded cheese was a bit more than expected. The service was great and the staff are friendly and the atmosphere is cute

I’m not sure I can recommend this place to anyone. The atmosphere was not there, the food was average and the service even less than average. Took a while for food to arrive (just simple fish and chips), ordered a coffee (which you would think comes out at the same time as other drinks, but no, had to wait a while). Had to constantly ask for sauces or sugar. I mean only came here as per friend’s recommendation but I am not sure Catch has caught my attention.

Excellent restaurant and take away , have visited here many times now and won’t be too long until I return, always been impressed firstly by the ambiance, secondly by the staff & service, although each time seems to be different staff servicing the restaurant the friendly and welcoming way they do their job is very pleasant. Last but not Least, the food is delicious, every time is most enjoyable and makes you want to return, which indeed I will do again.

Was attracted by the gluten free menu but it really was distinctly average. Ordered gluten free fish and chips to sit in but poor portion sizes (small and thin fillets of fish and small cup of chips) and definitely overpriced. Service was good but won’t rush back.

Ordered the vegan, tasted off and gave me a stomach asch, I only eat a little but when I came to the talk with then the man at the counter/one of the cooks possibly the owner started yelling at me that there's nothing to do about is and telling me that what it is and to go away. Never even got to asking for a refund but he wouldn't talk to me didn't ask what was wrong and said he doesn't care. Terrible experience and worse food. Wouldn't recommend to my worst enemies

I'm a regular visitor to the Giffnock Catch, it's always fresh and brilliant. I live in the west end so I'd hoped this Catch would be just as good. I'm not sure if it's the same owners or a franchise? I've had takeaway from it on 4 occasions, always haddock and chips and it just hasn't been to the same standard as the Giffnock one. Fish hasn't been as crisp and the chips/oil they have used wasn't fresh. The atmosphere in the evening when collecting wasn't great either. Loud music blaring and not the most welcoming.

I loved ordering from here as a good value tasty delivery and so went in to get a takeaway. This is the best chippy I have been to for vegan food. I love the sausage and chips with curry sauce especially and mushy peas. Visiting there for a takeaway did not disappoint. The service was good too, very friendly people. When I was getting my order the guy coming in started complaining quite condescendingly that when he ordered a single sausage supper he only got one sausage last time and the staff handled it with professionalism and courtesy, was impressed.

Got 2 piece sausage 1 fish n chips 1 tub curry sauce Brought it home opened it and it was actually cremated Foned them up spoke to so called female manager about it who wasn’t interested kept talking over me every time I tried to speak then had a cheek to hang the fone up Between her n the fryer for even having the cheek to actually give it to the counter staff to serve it for taking away

Sat in last night, one table out of 3 the whole time we were there. Food was fine, however service was appalling. We had phoned prior to ensure there would be a table available and were told no reservation was required as they were quiet. Upon arrival, we asked if we could sit and a male member of staff walked right by us and up the stairs. We followed and were told to sit anywhere. Ordered drinks and food at the same time, first 2 glasses for drinks were dirty with black grit. The member of staff got annoyed and told us this was normal? As the glasses were stacked and rubbing against each other. He then washed the third glass which was promptly slammed against the glass table top. At this point, we were both ready for walking out and not having dinner, however the member of staff came up the stairs and put our food down - no conversation, no asking who’s was who’s - and mixed the plates up as a result, however, hardly the end of the world. Sauce was forgotten with our meals and no surprise, slammed again on the table. The member of staff disappeared again downstairs, not once checking to ensure we were ok or needing another drink etc. We paid the bill downstairs without so much as a thank you. Good food but service seriously lacking. We will not return.

It’s alright , I book a Table wander in with my 85 year old father who thankfully can still manage the stairs . Haddock is fine if sometimes over battered and the staff efficient and pleasant enough . I give it 3 stars because I continually wonder if there is better in Glasgow

Won’t be back. As regulars of the Catch it is with real disappointment that I am writing this review. We regularly go with both friends and family but Sunday the 9th April was our last visit. We had purchased vouchers via Itison, a great deal but unfortunately in error had redeemed 2 £60 vouchers instead of a £60 and a £30. We asked for one voucher to be cancelled as we knew that we wouldn’t spend that much. The manager said she would try her best to get it sorted for us, the waiter then told us not to worry, even if it couldn’t be cancelled something would be sorted out for us. We therefore continued to order our usual haddock and chips. The manager came up as we were eating, apologised and said she had been unable to cancel the voucher so we would just need to order other things from the menu. I asked if it was possible for an IOU to be provided and we would return and spend the rest( and more) she told us this was not possible and we would just need to order from the menu. After telling the waiter to tell us not to worry something would be sorted, actually no it wasn’t. We were left to purchase from the dessert menu which was not great considering we were all full from our main meal and our previous experiences with this at the Catch had been extremely poor so we said we would never get a dessert from here again. We ordered 4 sticky toffee puddings and a sorbet. The sorbet was 10 scraped bits of ice cream that had freezer burn, priced at £5.50. The sticky toffee pudding was awful, it was a cold block of pudding with a thin drizzle of sauce and the smallest blob of ice cream. This was priced at £6.95. At these prices you would expect so much more and at least for it to taste good. No one came to ask how dessert was or to check in on us and we left deflated and annoyed.We will not be back!

Ordered takeaway from Uber Eats. The best fish and chips ever. The batter was exceptionally tasty and fish tasted fresh.

Went today and had two small fish suppers, the service was really good , the young lady serving was so nice and checked on us a couple of time. The food was nice , crispy battered fish and chips. A couple of cups of tea to wash it all down . Only thing I would say and this is totally down to me not checking is that dining is upstairs so if you have someone with you who may struggle with stairs it’s worth noting .

Really good gluten free fish and chips. Update 03/03/2023 ordered through website which sent me to Uber eats, food never arrived, was delivered to different address. Phoned shop, staff tell me not their problem, to contact Uber. You redirected me to Uber so I think it is your problem!

We were really looking forward to trying Catch out, especially with their new vegan menu but when I called asking if the food had any nuts in it, I was told that they couldn't confirm any of their ingredients. Really disappointing and quite concerning that they wouldn't know the ingredients of their own food. I hope this is an oversight, especially since I thought it was a legal requirement for restaurants to have a list of ingredients and that all staff are trained about allergens (this sadly isn't the case here).

Slow service, rude staff, overpriced menu and off-menu charges. Bitter experience overall with the food only adding pain to injury.

Quality of food is gradually declining sadly ..last couple of visits have seen a steady decline in the high standards I came to expect , I also dislike the covert charge for a paper bag that was neither offered or asked for ... and is exempt from the single use carrier bag charge imposed by the government ...

The young man who attended to us was very polite and friendly. He was attentive but not intrusive. My niece and I thoroughly enjoyed our meal. The ice cream to follow was lovely. We had a voucher from Itison, and can't wait till the offer is valid again, as we will definitely return.
