I love bookshops. The Argyle Street Waterstones has a cafe and 3 floors of books. The Animals of that Country is less here in paperback than the ebook version on Kindle. Oct 22 and it's still a brilliant bookshop so 10 year old mini madam bought a children's book with her pocket money. Jan 25 and a proper cappuccino in Waterstones' cafe.

So so disappointed! Iove Waterstones my friend reads to me all the time due to blindness. The guy who I asked for help could not be bothered. He got cross and huffed at me several times. Until I said I forgot the name and title because I'm blind. Then stupidly paid £20 for a bag that you couldn't put two books into if you wanted to. Just disappointed. I will be to scared to go back.

I loved visiting here. You can browse books and there is a till on every floor for convenience. There is a wide choice of books and the people at the tills are super friendly. The cafe was nice and quiet and the carrot cake was to die for. All I would say is the guy that was serving at the cafe wasn't very friendly, he didn't smile at all when serving me and didn't really talk to me. I could tell he didn't want to be there. My matcha was also white? I've never had a matcha that was white before and it didn't really taste of matcha so I feel he didn't really put any matcha in my drink. Three stars because of the service at the cafe.

I love this cafe above a Waterstones. The location, above a bookshop. Books on display. Posters on the walls. I went quite early for a coffee and I as I stood in the queue I was surprised to see the unfriendly way in which the server took customer orders. Whilst doing so she sipped her own coffee. We were all clearly an inconvenient disturbance. As I waited for my coffee to be made I caught the eye of the barista, I smiled and she glared back with zero warmth. I started to enjoy the lack of hospitality so decided to take a seat with a view of the till, in fairness it was the only cushioned seat left. At the end of the queue, a man joked with the server as to why she wasn't in a good mood and she said that she was feeling tired. Halfway down my expensive cappuccino it had gone cold and I decided that although I liked the cafe, the staff were at best unpleasant.

I would like to thank Josh (if I remembered correctly, he possessed an Amercian/Canadian-like accent) for his exemplary service yesterday evening (Thursday 2nd May 2024), who served me whilst I was purchasing two books. I shook his hand upon leaving. He was exceedingly helpful and polite and epitomises what truly great customer service is. I love this shop - it is the only place in Glasgow where I can find peace. I also recommend the larger shop on Sauchihall Street. Honestly, the attention to details at Waterstones is incredible: the shop is neat, clean, the books are positioned at a slight angle to allow a better shopping experience, the team are usually friendly and helpful, and every small detail has clearly been catered to. I could honestly spend hours upon hours in Waterstones, and I have on many occasions. Everybody should visit Waterstones; avid readers and non-readers alike.

One of my favourite places to pop into when I'm in the city. Yes, I love indie bookshops, but sometimes you just need the selection of a place like this. Beautiful multi-floor layout with everything you need all in one place. The cafe is lovely and the clearance section has some fantastic bargains. Only complaint is I feel there are too many cheap toys on display in the children's book section. I bring my kids so they can nurture their love of reading but the toys can be a bit of a distraction.

I went today to the Cafe W, had planned to sit and write on my laptop and have some of their food. I had purchased a takeaway drink elsewhere and when I walked in and prepared to buy something they immediately kicked me out rudely, yelling at me from across the store for having the drink without giving me a chance to buy anything. I was only in there for one single minute. The bookstore staff have always been kind but the Cafe was an awful experience. I do not recommend if you’re going to study or read, honestly. Unless you don’t bring anything with you at all.

Went with friends a few weeks after opening. Online it said booking recommended so we booked but then were told off as we only wanted drinks and were asked to leave ‘so someone else can use the table for food’ and that you were only allowed to book for food. The server was quite rude, but there had been no suggestion of that at the time when I booked (though this may have been updated) and it’s a bar…! Atmosphere wasn’t as good as I’d expected. The cocktail menu didn’t have any vodka, wine or gin based cocktails, only fortified drinks/whiskies/tequila etc, not a huge offering and just named after authors with no particular link or reasoning (edited to say there does seem to be a link, but just not as exciting as I’d hoped). Disappointing.

My partner and I visited Pescados last night and we really enjoyed the food. The seafood is delicious, fresh and well prepared. Unfortunately, the restaurant seemed to be suffering some serious management issues in terms of staff. Our waiter seemed absolutely rushed off his feet, manically running around and trying to meet orders. We twice asked for a dessert that never came and in the end we just got the bill and left. I don't think it's the fault of the waiting staff, it seemed more poor decision making from higher up, perhaps not having enough people working on a Friday night. Either way it was a shame because the food is very nice.
