Delicious scampi and chips. Friendly staff and quick service.

Crap. Customer service is bad. The fish was small and definitely not worth the price. The most annoying thing is that you can’t even put your own salt and vinegar on, so I was given the tiniest drizzle of vinegar and the smallest sprinkle of salt which made the food not enjoyable. When I asked why I couldn’t put my own salt and vinegar on the girl said because of ‘germs’ whilst handling my chips with bare hands and no gloves on. Makes sense 👍 wouldn’t recommend at all

Absolutely terrible the chips were dry and shrivelled if it wasnt for the fact it was raining and we sat in the car as we had dogs with us i would have taken them back .Went in the bin instead . Id have been ashamed to have served them ! Surely staff know when a fopd needs binning and is past being served . Terrible !

Ate here twice while I was visiting and fantastic food both times. Lovely staff and some of the best curry sauce I've ever had.

We have been here a few times but this was the first time eating in the restaurant, unfortunately it was disappointing the staff were rude regarding our order and tried to make it that it was our fault! Fish was small , chips were awful !

Uses beef dripping instead of vegetable oil. Veg oil is suitable for everyone, cheaper, more environmentally friendly, healthier. Please get with the times! Not even an alternative to cows milk for tea. The demand is there!

Went good Friday for fish and chips . Two regular cod and chips £13. small bowl of peas £2 curry £2. Smallest peice of cod I've ever had , couldn't see it for the batter. If that was regular I wouldn't like to see the small.very dissatisfied for what should have been a Easter holiday treat .

The wife, Me & son just went for a pack o chips each, our lass payed for them, They were perfect & tasty BUT.. my wife then remembered she gave the lady a £20 note but did NOT get the right change, I thought here we go !... But the wife just told the lady that served us & she was Brilliant with it gave us the right change and all was good.... We Will go Again SOON. Thanks for the lovely chips.

Expensive, and not great fish and chips. I found it odd that you're not allowed to put your own salt and vinegar on but as bizarre and unusual as that is, it's more of a shoulder shrug moment than a problem. The chippy is in a prime location, literally next to the main car park, which I guess means they don't have to try to hard to compete with the other chippy or the pub nearby.

Just poor. After walking down the beach for an hour from south Redcar we usually have fish n chips from Oscars by the peir. Shut today. Stopped here instead before the walk back. Rubbish. Small fish, with gapping fillet which usually means old. Seafood platter was burned. Avoid.

Definitely the best chippy in Saltburn by far and definitely the best value for money. We get our fish and chips here everytime after a walk up and down the pier. Not greasy or soggy, the fish is meaty and the chips are proper old achool chippy chips just wish they were wrapped in newspaper for that added taste. Deffo my choice of chippy!

Decent fish n chips ,good service however at £9.50 per serving l cannot for the life of me work out why the takeaway staff will not let you add your own salt n vinegar. It is so mean that they add what they consider the correct amount even though we requested more as we like our condiments .At these prices shouldnt people add what they consider is the correct amount. Penny pinching at its worst.

I had a very disappointing experience at this establishment. A group of ten of us went there, and while 8 of us were waiting with our coffees outside, I went inside as I didn’t have a drink and wanted to get a table so I could start eating. I asked if I could order food and sit at a larger table (which was unoccupied). However, the girl at the counter refused and insisted I wait outside with the others. I suggested sitting at a smaller table to eat while waiting for my friends, but this was also denied with the reason being that it would require table cleaning. This response left a bad impression on me. When I decided to leave, the girl suddenly changed her mind, but by then, the experience had already soured. We decided to dine elsewhere as the staff was rude, and the atmosphere was unwelcoming. It felt like they didn't want us as customers, and the overall experience was extremely uncomfortable.

Absolutely vile got 2 kids boxes chips where deffos reheated and fish bites where more like batter bites even the kids wouldn't touch them avoid this place and use the on in the main carport bottom of bank like we did and kids enjoyed this 1

Lovely place saltburn by the sea but ruined by fish and chips at the end when we was leaving. Fish batter was soggy and no crisp to it, tasted like it was re heated tbh, very disapointed.

Children’s meal box £5.50. £11.00 for 2 boxes disgusting & Absolute rip off!! 3 chicken nuggets 10 chips & a carton drink. Dry chips!

Disgusting fish n chips Had a great day by the sea today and saltburn is a fantastic place. However Cat Nab fish and chips was a total let down. I ordered fish and chips with scraps..(batter) chips and scraps were very nice, fish…. Was soggy and lacked any crispyness, it was grey and not a appetising at all, half got chucked in the bin. For £9.50 it was probably the worst fish and chips I have had..

Visited today, very busy but welcomed and seated ASAP... food ordered and watched the pressure staff were under but cannot fault their skill and professionalism in seating guest, taking orders and delivering food to tables.... Our food was amazing.... fish light and crispy, chips well cooked and a slice of lemon garnish... delicious 😋 will deffo be back 😋 thank you 😊

Absolutely beautiful fish bites, chips and curry sauce. Being going to Saltburn for years but never tried here before. Will definitely be back again. Really good.

OMG what the hell have we just queued 30 minutes for, this so called( fish and chips shop) please please eat elsewhere and do yourself a favour this is the worst food I've ever had. It makes jd wetherspoons fish and chips taste delicious, the fish was as soggy as it could be sloping around in its own grease the chips were so bad that they were cooked twice we made our fellings felt by telling those in the queue to take a look at our so called order, we are not at all fussy eaters but there is no way we were putting ourselves through eating that debacle and it was £25 feels like we had been rapped

The Small fish is tiny, the regular fish is also very small , very disappointing at £9.50 for Fish & Chips.

The staff are so rude it was unbelievable. Took order INCORRECTLY and overcharged. Absolutely rubbish small fish, soggy batter, brown chips but under cooked. Extremely poor customer service, will not be returning and advise any others to not go there.

Second visit here and have tried various fish & chips in the area. They are tasty and there’s plenty of cod in the portion with a light batter - comparing it to another local takeaway I’d say Cat Nab is definitely better value and superior in taste.

Huge queues but dealt with quickly. The food was fantastic, price reasonable. Staff were friendly.

Awful, dry, tiny piece of fish, over battered and over-cooked. Chips were also left and possibly all was re-heated. All 4 of us didn't like. In the past I've given this place 5-stars so gone down hill badly. Won't eat here again.

Service was fine place looked clean, chips and drinks where nice but part of my fish had a strong taste to it so i cut it off and ate the rest probably a mistake as ive had the runs since.

All the lovely places you can eat in Saltburn well this isn’t one of them. The chips must have been in the warmer all day. When I was asked if all was ok and I said no the man doing the frying just shrugged. No apology nothing. Customer satisfaction is non existent. Even an apology was too much.

Spent yesterday in saltburn with our granddaughter (teachers on strike)! Ended up in cat nab fish restaurant. I have to say that we had the best food and service ever. Staff were lovely, really welcoming and friendly. Service was really prompt. The premises were beautifully clean and the staff well presented. Would definitely recommend and will be returning over the summer.

The haddock and chips was a treat I loved the fish it was flaky and the chips delicious . I definitely and highly recommend this place.

We cannot rate this place enough. Always superb food served. We had the fish with peas and a chip butty with curry sauce and omg it was delicious 😋. The staff are always outstanding with the service 🙂

As usual my 1 of couple of go to Fish n Chip stops was as good as always. Hot drink and a chat in clean and tidy outside area. Nothing to eat on this occasion but having stop off for cuppa was awesome.

Queued up for the Seaview and got told it was an hour and a half wait. Walked over to the Cab Nab and it was fantastic, food delicious and prompt service. Would recommend

Came on a day out to Saltburn on the train. Took a walk down to the beach where we found this fish and chips shop. The prices were reasonable for a tourist location, but both the food and the service were exemplary. The fish were cooked to order and had a batter that melted in the mouth - absolutely delicious. We also tried a little pot of the chip shop curry which was beautiful with the chips and had a slight fruity twang. The lady gave us an order number once we had paid and gave us a shout once the food was ready. The restaurant part was closed (perhaps only being open during peak season) but it was nice to sit outside and listen to the sea and watch the seagulls circle overhead while we ate our delicious food. We're already talking about hiring a car next time and coming later in the year - this place will definitely be on the checklist 🙂

Very tasty fish and chips in a clean restaurant with happy staff. Loses points for price, £31 for fish n chips twice, with tea plus you will have to pay to park, if you can get a place, £2.50/hour.

Beautiful fish and chips and seafood platter by the sea! Large portions and really tasty. We love bringing the dog with us to run on the beach and treat ourselves to fish and chips and ice creams when it's warmer. Dogs welcome in the outside seating area. 👍🐟 🍟

Today we enjoyed some of the nicest fish and chips we have eaten in a long time. The crispiest chips, right to the last one, and no skin or bones on the fish, which is a big plus for us, especially when we buy them at the seaside. Highly recommended!

Extremely rude staff, walked in for a coffee when sign said open, got told it was closed and refused change for the car park.

Went here for our regular fish n chips with my family and the girl who served got our order wrong twice. No apology just arguing with us and slagging us off to her colleague. Very unprofessional and shouldn't be allowed to work in customer service

I bought 3 fish and chips today and everyone thought they were awful. We’ve been coming here for many years and it’s the first time they’ve been shocking. Won’t be going back again

Great fish and chips. The fish was so fresh and the price was very reasonable. Portions were also spot on. Too many chippys are a bit mean these days. I will definitely go again.

As a family of 5 spending £35 on fish and chips and then being charged 30p per sauce packet was ridiculous. The fish and chips tasted lovely but were a bit cold.

A catering station located at the foot of the cliff. Beautiful view of the sea. Nearby is a miniature railway and a park along the Skelton Back River, parking and the beach. The menu in the cafe is limited. Prices are moderate. Seating at tables is only on the street and there are few of them. There are not enough chairs at the tables. They are not allowed into the premises. The order takes a long time to prepare. The food is untidy and not very appetizing, although the portions are large. Taste 6 out of 10. Staff not particularly welcoming. They are not rude, but they look at visitors with disdain and do not smile. The service is cold and without even trying to pretend to be polite. Maybe it’s just a bad day, but the desire to visit this place again has disappeared. I don't recommend it.

My 10 yr old son was waiting for food with his mates I was behind them all his mates got served the lady asked my son for his order and a rude man turned around and stated their wasn't any chips I could clearly see their was, absolutely disgusting to treat him like that hes left with no food whilst all his mates are eating no customer service at all

Fantastic fish and chips, lovely flakey cod. The scampi was delicious too. It does get busy at the weekend but the staff are very efficient and keep things moving along. Didn't have to wait long for the food after ordering. More than ample seating outside but we took ours to the beach. Paper trays and wooden forks too so they are conscious about the environment. And Edna's Ices next door has a vegan ice cream option for our vegan friends.

Awesome. The staff are extremely friendly, the portions are huge and the prices are very reasonable. Plus it is virtually right on the beach. What more could anyone ask for?

The staff are so rude it was unbelievable. When asked if they had any fish ready my son was at first ignored and then abruptly spoken to. Extremely poor customer service, will not be returning and advise any others to avoid like the plague!!

I do not normally write reviews but after reading the negative ones i feel that i have to totally disagree with them. We have had FandC there several times in the last few weeks and i can say that the whole experience was 5 star. Looking forward to our next visit.

Arrived at CatNab after a long ride over the moors. Hungry I ordered fish and chips, to say it was delicious does not do it justice. The service was both friendly and efficient so top marks, CatNab is well worth a visit and I'll be returning soon.

Haven't been since COVID started but it's definitely on our list to start going again. Nice little restaurant just off opposite the park and main beach. We usually order the Cat Nab Special with is fish & chips, mushy peas, bread and butter and a pot of tea. Very nice on a nippy Sunday. My only critisism is there's always more tea than milk, so the milk jugs need to be bigger. It's never getting more and they'll also give you some hot water to fill your pot. There's also a rather nice lady who i think owns the place. She's always pleasant and takes the time to chat. They also serve ice cream next door. Try the honeycombe crunch in a chocolate covered cone...delicious!

We visited Saltburn by the Sea for a day out and out of curiosity. A bit of a drop to the beach from the road, but after a walk along sandy beach we decided to have some fish and chips from Cat Nab Fish and Chips shop. Well, we've had some nice ones in Whitby before, but the ones we had in Saltburn were excellent. So although not much to see on that day the Fish and chips were well worth the trip.

Cool windy day, after a walk on the beach. A well deserved large tray of chips. Cooked perfectly. Dine in or takeaway your choice.

For a place that seems so popular the food is less than satisfactory. A substantial wait for a basic fish and chips, and once the food arrives the chips can only be discribed as greesy mush, and the batter on the fish is way too thick, the only saving grace was the fish had a nice flavour and was flakey.

Wish I coukd give - star rating after waiting for half an hour due to fryer supposedly gone down. Finally git fish n chips got hone and was so disgusted more fish in a fish finger just batter and the chips must've been reheated sevral times absolute waste of time and money. Went in the bin now putting a boiked egg on. Will not be going back

Great fish and chips. Good sized haddock supper tasty. Perfect chips. Batter just right but not too thick. 3.1 does not do this place justice try before you judge. Reasonably priced.

One star only because I cant five Zero stars. Awful awful fish. Never seen anything like it. Stringy bits, wierd colour, tasteless. Batter was as bad. Chips were not fresh dried old rubber. Jus flung the lot in the bin .. won't even give it to my dog!!!! Nothing seemed fresh!never ever again !

Fantastic the best I’ve had in a long time

Hands down the worst batter on fish I've ever had. Soggy & so greasy! Even the seagulls didn't like it. We also had a seafood platter & everything was so overcooked it was inedible.

avoid went there and alarm bells should have rang straight away the area was packed and yet no queue at this fish and chip shop got to the counter to be greeted by a rude oldish woman who clearly didn't care if she was there or not then ordered sausage and chips for 3 people and carton of gravy, gravy tasted cheap and nasty full of lumps litrally no taste to it and the chips looked snd tasted like they had been sat there for hours and the sausage hadn't been cooked properly the batter was soft and soggy, and then had the ordasity to charge well above what you would normally pay Avoid its that simple

Me and my partner visited this place today and queued over an hour which is understandable with the current situation with social distancing as we reached the front of the queue an oldish lady shouted “ stand back” which we obeyed not thinking anything of it as we said our order which was “ 2 large fish & chips and a large curry sauce” the lady was very abrupt I honestly thought she was going to say something sarcastic to us I’m not sure where the attitude came from she then said “ can you stand aside” and started serving other people in the queue I was a little confused with this as we watched everyone before us get served they all waited to received there food so why we got told to move a side I thought was a bit rude it was like we had rubbed her up the wrong way automatically and we are just a young couple in our 20’s we had camping chairs in our arms and would never say boo to a goose! When we then got shouted back my partner realised that he had brought the flask and forgot my cup so we thought we would by chance ask if we could have one of the small plastic cups the women said I can give you a small cup we put hot drinks in and we said yes please she then said 50p? We thought that was a bit steep and said would you take 20p and she very abruptly said no 50p so we paid her and continued to wait the person behind us did the same and they got given a lid I mean we paid for ours where was our cup lid??? when we received our food my partner asked please could we have a bag everyone else got there food in a bag and we clearly had our hands full and she ignored us at first until my partner repeated himself! We finally left for the beach the chips were loverly the fish was a bit strange exactly like the other reviews on here it was small and square!! And the curry sauce was green! I’m not sure why, I would not give this place a chance at all!! Go to the other fish and chip shop on the sea front close to the pier there food looked amazing! Even thought they always a longer queue it’s worth it! This place is NOT worth your money!! And the reviews don’t lie! This old women has an attitude problem!

The quality of the fish and chips does not deserve even one star. It was greasy and left a foul greasy aftertaste AVOID I'd also like to complain on behalf of the old lady in front of me in the que who also made a complaint stating that the fish and chips were awful and she had thrown them in the bin.

Absolutely brilliant service and very friendly staff. They were so great with my little boy and he loved his chocolate ice cream. Good value for money and it was very clean and tidy. We will definitely return in the future.
