Castle's in Camden

Great Double Double and Liqour very nice and tasty would return for another meal. There seems to be some confusion on social media about this place also being a Cafe. I can Confirm this is a Pie and Mash Shop only no other food is served here so presume people must be confusing this place with somewhere else.

When visiting Camdem we tried here. It was easy to find with a short queue when we arrived. We had the traditional pie,mash and liquor. The food was hot and tasty and very reasonably priced. They only accept cash.

Cracking Pie , Mash and Liquor, Great Value. Was busy and the atmosphere was good. It’s a basic Cafe set-up but it’s good at what it does! Look forward to returning soon.

pie and mash didn’t seem as nice as used to be, maybe because they was in a panic, waited in que for 20 minutes then told pies would be ready in 15, then 25 minutes later just before gettin served was told again run out of liquor and would be anther 10 minutes, so not short an hour at this place, won’t go back, my advice get more help behind the counter up your game as regulars will start to drop off, #canonlytakesomuch. over all poor everything on there part

Came to Castles after several glowing recommendations. Checked the website before setting off for opening times. Arrived there at 12.00 for lunch. It was closed. Website should have been updated. A note on the door is not enough these days. We wasted money parking & it’s not cheap or easy to find anywhere. There were other customers outside looking puzzled too. No excuse. So disappointed!

Hit the jackpot here! Pie and mash as it should be; a luscious, savoury mince pie, creamy mash and tasty parsley liquor. Piping hot and served with a smile. Loved it! Have found my go-to place for a quick lunch in North London.

We poped into this pie and mash shop as our friend had been before and recommended it as having good pie and mash ....he was not wrong ..has to be the best pie and mash in North London ..

Top draw excellent every thing people down to earth and lovely. Food excellent. Best I've had and I've been coming for 60 years

Wednesday 15/02/2023, After waiting 3 x years from Covid lockdown I finally went to Camden for a Pie & Mash lunch, delicious as always, I accidentally dropped a £20 note when taking out my phone to take this picture, only noticed an hour later, returned and asked if they had found it, Yes they said with a big smile and gave it back, my lucky day & would like to thank them for their honesty.

Been going to Castle's since I was a small boy. Came back from Australia after 13 years to visit family and just had to go back to see if it is still a good as it was and I wasn't disappointed. The pies, mash and liquor are still the best! Love this place.

We were visiting from Ireland and fancied trying the traditional Pie, Mash & Liquor, it was absolutely delicious. We waited 30mins in a que, but was worth it! We licked our plates clean.

We were really looking forward to pie and mash and planned our Saturday around a trip here. After a 60 minute bus journey we got there only to find it was closed (just after 1pm). Really disappointing and it also messed up our plans a bit...no other pie and mash shops nearby, and nothing else took our fancy for lunch in the area (nearby chip shop but was cash only). I don't understand why the website says it is open on Saturdays when it clearly isn't.

travelled from muswell hill through traffic as we love your pie and mash only to find you were closed on tuesday i checked your website and it said you were open until 3.30 with the cost of fuel we were very disapointed.

Just had to visit for pie and mash and a side of eels on a weekend trip to London and half day in Camden. I'm not a Londoner but planned andlooked forward to my visit here for weeks before. Not dissapointed

A great tradition and no trip to London would be "right" without a plate of pie & mash. Very good quality for what is essentially the Cockney equivalent to Street Food. Even have malt vinegar with pickling spices in it! Lovely.

Visited today and loved it, pie, mash and liquor with some chilli vinegar, delicious hot and fast service, very reasonably priced, staff very very friendly , will definitely visit again when in London next .

While the pie and mash is lovely having to wait outside for 1/2hr (I even left the queue for 10 mins and went to another shop and came back to the same queue) then when I actually get to be served to be told more pies will be ready in anther 12 minutes is an absolute joke. I’ve been going to Castles for as long as I can remember and the service has been quick but recently (last 3 visits) the service has gone to pot. I’ve got no intentions of ever going back..... I can drive to the east end get my pie and mash and still get back before I get served here. TO THE OWNERS OF CASTLES. If you don’t want to supply pie and mash at the reasonable speed you used to, turn it in sell the business and let someone who does want to.

I popped in Saturday lunchtime for a pre pub double double. The pies, mash and liquor were all spot on. Absolutely delicious. The staff were really friendly. I'll definitely be popping in again when I'm next in Camden

I've sampled pie and mash at almost all the pie shops in London, and only heard about Castles recently. I visited there with a friend, and was surprised by how small the place is. The staff and customers were all really friendly, and there was a nice traditional atmosphere.

Estaba delicioso y me recordó a una de mis salidas favoritas cuando era niño con mis abuelos. Es bastante pequeño por dentro, pero vale la pena esperar para sentarse y definitivamente volveré allí.

Una visita encantadora a una tienda de pasteles y puré muy tradicional. El personal muy amable notó que tenían muchos clientes habituales, ya que estaban en términos de primer nombre con muchos de ellos.

Pequeño tienda a sólo 5 minutos a pie de la ciudad de Camden, el servicio es muy amable y acogedor, y los pasteles son estupendas, un montón de carne abundante y el puré y el licor son como deberían ser. La tienda también tiene un encantador ambiente acogedor así que es un lugar ideal para sentarse en los asientos durante el invierno, también están fuera de los días más cálidos.

Toda mi familia ve allí y lo han hecho durante 60 años. Incluso tuvimos que llevar al hospital una vez a la semana para mi madre. El personal es increíble hoy como siempre ha sido. La comida es siempre caliente y recién hecha. Probarlo, no te arrepentirás, si eres un entendido de la verdadera tarta y puré.

As an ex Londoner I can highly recommend castles. Every time we venture back " home" we always stop here for our fix of pie n mash. Staff lovely. Best pie n mash, a must visit!

Han sido criados en este pastel de puré y tienda volver generaciones en mi familia. Recuerdo que era un niño y permanente de mis pies para llegar a los cubiertos en el mostrador! Nada ha cambiado en todos estos años sigue siendo el mismo mesas de plástico. La comida es siempre caliente y sabrosa las porciones generosas. Aunque se han mudado lejos de la zona de regreso a este lugar cuando tengo la oportunidad! Recomiendo 100% este pastel de puré y tienda! Dejé de traernos un nannie llevar en el fin de semana.

I go here d dry two weeks and always take away some pies and licquor which I freeze for another day. Staff are wonderful and helpful. I would highly recommend this shop. Food is cooked fresh daily.

Great as always .My friend and I had 2 pie mash and liquor / sauce with a pleasing can of cold Ben Shaw / flavoured with vanilla. This old established pie shop makes the pies fresh on the premises - go and enjoy it. Very friendly staff. Handily near Camden Town tube and Camden Rail station and many buses.

Staff at camden town station recommended this shop to us and gave directions when we asked if there was a pie and mash shop nearby. Fantastic pies friendly people. Very busy little shop so be prepared to queue. Pies freshly made and you even see them being taken out of the oven. Food was so good we rejoined queue to take more home

Ive been coming here since i was a kid , this IS the cuisine of a long forgotten London , there are only a few pie and mash shops left in London now , sadly. The pies here are crammed full of meat and the liqor (a thick parsley sauce of you like) is fantastic , loads of vinegar ...im salivating writing about it ! Lol ! ...its off the beaten track but if you want to try a food that is rapidly becomming less popular (thanks Mc Donalds !) You must come here , im a Londoner born and bred and this does my local dish proud !

I was told that this is the best pie & mash in London, so I had to try it. I have now been going there regularly. It is definitely the best that I have tried and always go for the cherry pie & custard when they have it or the jam roly- poly with custard for afters. I usually get take-away but you can eat in although the shop is a little small and can get very busy. In a nutshell... Good food, very reasonably priced and lovely staff.

I have to admit some bias here as I grew up in Camden Town and Castle's Pie and Mash was a regular stop on Saturday lunch times. It remains my comfort food of choice and these days I only manage to get there a few times a year. The portions are substantial and traditional i.e. meat pies, mash, liquor(parsley gravy, more or less) and eels. I usually take away but you can sit and eat in the shop. When I visited on Saturday the queue was out the door and was made up mostly of regulars. Pie and Mash is not to everyones taste but those looking for a filling, substantial lunch you can't go far wrong. My mouth is watering just thinking about it!
