We really enjoyed our meal here. We were greeted in a very friendly manner & engaged in conversation. The room where we had our lunch was full of books & old photos of The Castle - which we loved. The food was reasonably priced & not too bad.

We stayed for 3 nights this wk, Room spotless,plenty of space, cleaned daily, breakfast excellent, staff very friendly and helpful, will definitely be going back.Thanks Mike for making us feel at home . Nothing was to much trouble. The Olivers.

This should relate to The Castle Porlock. The hotel is under new family ownership in the last few months,the reviews below should be disregarded.

I have been to the Castle many times, socially and for lunch. The Millers dynasty did a wonderful refurbishment of what was a tired and run down Victorian building. To begin with, everything was very nice, but now they have adopted this national habit of employing a lot of young cheap foreign labour, who are obviously thrown in at the deep end, with no training. The last time we went for lunch, the admittedly, very willing and charming waiter did not have a clue about setting the table! So, we hopefully, explained the theory to him. The food was below the standard we are used to in all their establishments in the area. Maybe it was just a bad day? If you can catch them on a good day, then it is a splendid place to while away a couple of hours in an ambient atmosphere. But I can't help feeling sorry for these young people who are just trying to earn a living! Having said that, when Millers first came to this area, everybody was blown away by, what was at that time, a wonderfully different 'modus operandum'. The concept of the whole presentation was fantastically different and everything was wonderful and I have lots of memories of some delicious meals and good times. If you have not been, try any of their establishments for the experience and hopefully, you will catch them on a good day!

Went in with friends and waited about 15 minutes to be served with overpriced drinks. It is OK if you want to sit in a library and have a drink but it didn't have any atmosphere. Staff didn't seem bothered if you were there or not.
