Casa Romana in Leicester

I haven’t been here in a few years but was celebrating my family’s birthday. A terrible start, we arrived slightly early which we had no problem in going for a drink elsewhere while our table was occupied, However we had to wait a total of 40 minutes after our arranged time to be seated as the prior table was still there, by this time it was 20:15. There was nowhere to have a drink prior as the restaurant itself is very small and cramped. It was very busy which normally is a good sign for food and the food was definitely exceptional, however the service was absolutely poor. Waitresses and even the manager walking through the restaurant with mouthfuls of food eating, not attentive, attitudes portrayed as “I can’t be bothered”. Very disappointed and although the food was great, I wouldn’t be in a rush to return. Good job the company was good to have a lovely evening.

Servicio pobre, gerente que no parecía que estaba interesado y tenía una actitud, ninguno de los otros empleados sonrió en general una experiencia muy pobre y no volveremos nunca más. Si quieres un buen italiano en Leicester recomiendo Oggi's siempre ha tenido un buen servicio y comida allí.

Mesa a pequeña, pegada arriba por otra escalera donde guardaban equipos de limpieza de cubiertos y servilletas. Seguía pidiéndome que me moviera para que pudieran acceder (8 veces) Comida terrible Dueño grosero no va a volver y sentir como si me robaron £ 107 ¡La peor experiencia de restaurante!

Fuimos aquí para el almuerzo de San Valentín y lo que fue una elección! Llegamos para nuestra reserva de las 12 y fuimos cálidamente recibidos y sentados en el restaurante por una camarera maravillosa. Pedimos y nuestra comida salió de manera oportuna. Para empezar teníamos calamares, vieiras y raviolis de langosta. Todos estaban cocinados a la perfección, muy bien condimentados y llenos de sabor. Los platos se limpiaron rápidamente para dejar espacio para los siguientes platos. Para la alimentación tuvimos espaguetis salsa gamberi y vitello al Marsala. La pasta estaba al dente y las gambas eran dulces y suculentas. La ternera era delicada y se derretía en la boca con una salsa de crema celestial. Para terminar redondeamos todo con postre y qué experiencia que fue. Tiramisu era divino y me habrían quedado múltiples porciones si me quedara espacio. La tarta de limón (del menú de San Valentín) era dulce con un toque agudo del coulis de frutas. ¡Asegúrate de comer postre! Esto es literalmente un poco de Italia escondida en Leicester. He visto críticas que dicen que las porciones son pequeñas. Pero esa es la cocina italiana, sencilla, pequeña y llena de sabor. Iré allí de nuevo y haré saber a todos los que conozco sobre este maravilloso lugar. Hubiera subido fotos pero fue tan bueno que nos dejamos llevar.

Great Italian restaurant. Genuine freshly prepared food. Good wines.

The be kind message has clearly not landed with this place! I was shouted at and hung up on by a very rude member of staff. Absolutely horrendous service even before visiting the restaurant. My husband and I had a gift voucher from friends as a birthday gift on 16th Feb last year, we’ve not been able to visit due to our personal circumstances and this would have been our first night out without our little one in over a year. We booked to go today as we finally secured some childcare and noticed the validity of the voucher was only 6 months so had expired. I called in advance to see if they would honor the voucher as I’ve experienced this in the past and other venues are more than happy to extend 6 months to 12. I was initially told they would honor the voucher, only for the restaurant to call back and say no they will not honor. I explained that we had not had an opportunity to visit yet as we have a small child and childcare is scarce and questioned the reason why they would not extend the voucher when they have put money in their till and to this point provided no service for it. I was shouted at and told it’s not about the money in the til and everyone’s life is hard but we have to stick to the rules! Intriguing that he assumed to know my life was hard, I certainly hasn’t insinuated that, I tried to discuss this further and the man hung up on me! It’s a shame as we would have undoubtedly spent far more than the voucher was worth and we were really looking forward to visiting the restaurant. I certainly won’t be visiting this restaurant now and feel really disappointed that our friends gave them Money for nothing. Terrible service, no Compassion, rude and aggressive, none of the qualities you’d expect from a customer facing business

LOVE this place, beautiful food, friendly staff and lovely warm and welcoming atmosphere. Never fails to satisfy. They currently have a lovely Valentine menu but we’re here for our annual birthday celebration. It’s a tradition that’s in its second decade… this place is that good. Definitely a hidden gem, if you haven’t tried it yet you’re missing out. If you haven’t been in a while…you know what I mean when I say…you’re missing out. ❤️❤️❤️

El mensaje amable claramente no ha aterrizado con este lugar! Un miembro del personal muy grosero me gritó y colgó. Absolutamente horrendo servicio incluso antes de visitar el restaurante. Mi esposo y yo tuvimos un vale regalo de amigos como regalo de cumpleaños el 16 de febrero del año pasado, no hemos podido visitar debido a nuestras circunstancias personales y esta habría sido nuestra primera noche de fiesta sin nuestro pequeño en más de un año. Reservamos para ir hoy, ya que finalmente conseguimos un poco de cuidado infantil y notamos que la validez del bono era de solo 6 meses, así que había expirado. Llamé por adelantado para ver si honrarían el bono, ya que he experimentado esto en el pasado y otros lugares están más que felices de extender 6 meses a 12. Inicialmente me dijeron que cumplirían con el vale, solo para que el restaurante me devolviera la llamada y dijera que no, no cumplirán. Le expliqué que no habíamos tenido oportunidad de visitarlo todavía ya que tenemos un niño pequeño y el cuidado de los niños es escaso y cuestioné la razón por la que no extenderían el bono cuando han puesto dinero en su caja y hasta este punto no brindaron servicio para ello. Me gritaron y me dijeron que no se trata del dinero en la caja y que la vida de todos es dura, ¡pero tenemos que atenernos a las reglas! Intrigante que él asumió saber que mi vida era dura, ciertamente no he insinuado eso, intenté discutir esto más y el hombre me colgó! Es una pena, ya que sin duda habríamos gastado mucho más de lo que valía el vale y estábamos deseando visitar el restaurante. Ciertamente no voy a visitar este restaurante ahora y me siento muy decepcionado de que nuestros amigos les dieron dinero para nada. Terrible servicio, sin compasión, grosero y agresivo, ninguna de las cualidades que se esperarían de un cliente frente a un negocio

Great food, reasonably priced, lovely staff. Went post theatre, restaurant was full obviously v popular. Would go regularly if I lived nearer.

There were five of us. We were all looked after by staff members. Meals were amazing. Good portions and very tasty. Thoroughly enjoyed our time.

It's always good not to have to cook your own food for a break and a treat, but I have to say my most recent trip to this restaurant was disappointing. I had the chicken in a creamy mushroom sauce with saute potatoes. The potatoes were boiled and tasted just like they'd been browned only. They sure didn't look or taste like any other saute potatoes I've had before. The chicken was thin and didn't have much taste. Neither did the creamy mushroom sauce. The cook menu chicken breast in a creamy mushroom sauce from M&s has way more flavour and is less than a third of the price. Even microwaved food tastes better than this. Such a shame as this restaurant used to do lovely Italian food.

My favourite Italian. The swordfish is amazing.

The pollo alla crema de funghi was really good however I really didn't like the assorted Italian ice cream. Felt like everything was a bit overpriced.

Visité Casa Romana para la noche de citas y no decepcionó! El pan de ajo era increíble y también tenía los raviolis que estaba en una rica salsa de tomate. ¡Una de las mejores comidas que he tenido durante mucho tiempo! El personal también fue muy atento. Recomendaría llamar para hacer una reserva, ya que era popular, pero tuvimos mucha suerte de haber entrado y conseguir una mesa. Esperamos volver a visitar de nuevo con suerte pronto!

Un verdadero restaurante italiano tradicional - pasados excelente, servicio discreto y profesional - lugar ideal antes del teatro - muy recomendable

Have been eating at this restaurant since 1984. Used to love it but the last few times it's slowly losing it's cosy family run aura and just seems more like a money making machine for someone looking to retirement. For the first time since I have been going here no complementary olives or bread. Sorry, lost its sparkle for me.

We have been here before and thought we would give it another go. Won't be going back! Very chaotic, and you are crammed like sardines! If you are running a small menu, you need to deliver those items perfectly, and unfortunately, they didn't at Casa Romana! Very expensive £13.95 for a very basic chicken arbiata with ONLY 9, 1cm cubed pieces of chicken, it was like a childs portion! £5 for a bottle of Peroni. Nearly £5 for 3 small slices of garlic bread only toasted on one side and very dry.. Garlic mushrooms were broiled in a vat of butter, and you ONLY got 6/7 mushrooms The staff were okay, but not very attentive, and the owner/head waiter was rude when challenged! We found ourselves in Macdonald's, and yes, the food there had more taste! Wouldn't recommend Casa Romana

Visited many years ago and wasn't overly impressed then, thought after reading the reviews we'd give it another go, unfortunately still of the same opinion. Waitresses were friendly but not overly attentive, the owner/head waiter was rude and unwelcoming, when we left no one said goodbye. The place was chaotic! Food was OK, overpriced and somewhat basic. 2 people with one alcoholic drink, starter and main almost £100.

Still Leicester's best Italian restaurant. Cannot recommend highly enough. Perfect food every time and . almost everyone is a repeat customer.

Food was ok ……just!! The pasta dish that I ordered tasted lovely but the small portion on a large plate left me feeling short changed, When it arrived I understood why the waitress had tried to push the extra side dishes and as for over £10 for pint of Peroni in a back street Italian ….Oh please - Service was good

Terrible service, we had pre ordered gluten free for 1 of our party to be told we hadn't ordered it and he just gave her normal pasta with a really bad attitude. He was rude and unpleasant. The pasta was shop bought and half a bowl. Me and my 5 friends will not be going back . Rubbish food , service and overpriced

Wonderful meal tonight, try the Halloween special ,pumpkin Ravioli, stilton sauce with walnuts £14.95 absolutely divine ,washed down with the ever delicious greco di tufo .

Fantastic sea bass, simply cooked with fresh salad (no limp leaves). The best panna cotta I've ever eaten, silky, perfect flavour and texture.

Lovely bit of veal, wasn’t personally a big fan of the lemon sauce but hey that’s just me! Great flavours all round and want to come back to try the charcoal grilled veal. Great little spot.

Been here few times now. This is one of the finest Italian restaurants I have been to in England. I mainly come here for the seafood. They always buy their fish fresh and you can tell from the quality. The service is exceptional and the food just sends you in heaven. I will keep coming back here!!!!! 😇😇

Booked to go here as been recommended so many times over the years. We were great and seated quickly. We had literally sat down and asked what drinks we wanted, didn’t even have time of open the menu and see what they served. We ordered a bottle of house wine, which was nice. Antipasti to start again nice and tasty. The bread on the table was quite though to chew and no Co Lysol sticks with olives. A little bit more of a personal preference but makes picking them up easy especially when sharing with other people. The Mains arrived quickly after. The dishes where cold which meant the food was warm at best. The dishes were sent back and asked to be heated. We ordered a side of tomato and mozzarella bruschetta this was soggy and again returned to the kitchen, the replacement cam back the same so sent it away and asked them to send another as at this point had been but off my meal. In all the dishes there was minimal meat or fish again this was disappointing. They apologised and said they don’t have a plate heater. When the waitress returned asking if we wanted anything else we declined as wasn’t risking being disappointed with dessert. We paid the bill, on leaving I reiterate to the gentleman who I assume owns the restaurant how disappointed we were with our experience. All he could say it’s doesn’t happen and they don’t normally have a problem. I would say the pasta I cooked at home was better quality than we received last night. Definitely very disappointed as was looking forward to this meal for ages. Sadly I will not be recommending or returning after they the gentleman spoke to on leaving and the quality of the food wasn’t up to restaurant standard. I don’t expect to go out to an Italian restaurant to find my own cooking better.

We had an outstanding and delicious meal at Casa Romana. Excellent service and good quality good. The red wine was beautifully balanced and the meal was really good value. Will be revisiting in the near future.

We were excited to book this place for a long time, but due to our busy schedules, we decided to reserve it for a special night like Valentine’s Day. However, we regret not choosing another option. Tonight, we had the worst non-Italian food experience. Surprisingly, none of the famous Italian dishes were available. The staff was unfriendly, arrogant, and lacked hospitality, art sense, and dish design. As an artist who enjoys exploring different places and cuisines, this was the wrong choice for our Valentine’s dinner.

We went here on Valentine's Day and was expecting to made to feel special. Bearing in mind this was our first visit, we was quite surprised to feel very unwelcome by the staff serving us, as this place has quite a good reputation. The food was a set meal as that was all they was offering because of valentines. Extremely average and nothing resembled the true flavours of Italian food. We was extremely disappointed with the attitude of the staff as well as the quality of the food. Would definitely not be visiting this place again.

Absolutely gobsmacked!! Used to use casa years ago and it was spot on. How times have changed!! Food average at best and the waiting staff were unbelievably rude. We ordered steak for the main course, one medium, one rare, when the food was brought to the table I asked which was which? The very rude waitress said she’d check. The food was brought back and I was given the medium and the Mrs given the rare. Not what we’d ordered. The peppercorn sauce was just a milk broth with peppercorns in and delivered by the same waitress slamming it on the table and just walking off. The service in whole was rushed and it seemed like they wanted to serve and get us out. In future I’ll stick to Oggis, proper food, proper service.

First of all the atmosphere was very calm and suitable for a nice and chilled out night out. The staff were super friendly, caring, made sure everything was top notch while being super busy running around making sure every customer is happy. The food was beautiful in taste and appearance. Me and my partner had scallops and bruschetta and it was the perfect choice for starters. For mains steak and chicken pasta Wer incredible. Fresh sauces and perfectly cooked fillet steak, just the way I asked and also it was served in a way I would have never guessed. The only little thing I could complain about was the side salad for the steak, as it was served in a small bowl but the lettuce and tomatoes were sliced a bit large and it was a bit difficult eating it. It doesn't change the fact that everything from welcoming us, service, professionalism and great food deserves a 5 star rating. Niepozorny budynek znacznie odbiegający wyglądem od reszty restauracji w mieście kryje w sobie magię. Przytulne klimatyczne miejsce. Obsługa przesympatyczna. Jedzenie przepyszne. Jednakże główne dania są zbyt małe. Deser był nieziemski tiramisu czy cream blure nie z tej ziemi. Polecam dla grup i par.

We went there recently. It was absolutely terrible. It was all just slop - apart from mine with fish and a couple of steaks. I have honestly never had such a dismal experience. The bruschetta consisted of unripe tomatoes with butter (hint of garlic) with melted pellets of mozzarella. The gamberi barely acknowledged that it was supposed to have had prawns, the list goes on. Absolutely appalling. Would never ever go back. It honestly just looked like they’d nipped to Aldi to get ready meals! In fact, I’d prefer they had. I chose not to complain to avoid spoiling anyone else’s evening (the restaurant achieved that without any help!) Honestly, they should be embarrassed to call themselves a restaurant let alone an Italian one! You’ve been warned!

Lovely restaurant, friendly staff and great food (apart from liver) and reasonable prices.

We went as a group of 11 blokes and ordered from the Xmas menu. The service was ok. We had a variety of starters between us, my goats cheese salad with beetroot was ok. The mains.... We waited ages for them which I don't necessarily mind, but with lots of the group ordering steak and chips, it was disappointing to see the chips being brought out in sharing bowls. For that price we feel chips on the plate would be appropriate. The salad looked utterly miserable, lettuce yellow and poorly chopped. My canaloni was ok, but if someone told me it was a microwaved marks and Spencer meal I wouldn't have been surprised. The experience could have been improved with more beer choices, some music would have been nice, and the small details I previously mentioned. That being said, I think 2 of 5 is very fair., perhaps lenient.

I would definitely recommend Casa Romana. I'm not a big Italian food fan but I'm bringing the family back here 👍🏾👌🏽

We booked a table for 7pm. It took an hour for the starters to come out and another hour for the main. We had been required to pre-order so this feels excessive. Keen to get moving, I went downstairs to ask if I could settle my part of the bill, the manager was rude to me, put the bill in front of me and told me to take it to the table. Considering the time delays I would have thought people would have keen to be nice to us. 2nd time we’ve been at Christmas. 1st time was lovely, but we will never return now.

We are always blown away by the food, service and ambience here! Nothing is too much trouble. The owner and his team always make us feel so welcome. Looking forward to our next visit already!!!

Went to this restaurant a few weeks ago as a party of 7 on a Saturday night. It was busy, the restaurant is small. Initially the service seemed ok but as our party all arrived and we got talking and laughing, the manager came over and told us rather abruptly to keep the noise down! We weren't THAT loud! Anyway, that set the tone a little bit and we felt that we couldn't enjoy ourselves because we would be told to keep the volume down again. The wine was nice and the beers were cold. The food, here's what really grates me, this restaurant is meant to have good, Italian food... the food was average at best. My friends scallops were nice but with no accompaniments, it was expensive. The pasta didn't seem as though it was fresh and made on site, rather looked and tasted like packet, dried pasta. I had the chicken in cream sauce, this was super bland, I had to add salt to my dish which something that I never do! Overall, it is a restaurant that is well over priced for the quality and quantity of food served. We were on a night out and didn't want to sour the night anymore by complaining so we paid and left... none of us would go back!

We have been dining happily at Casa Romana for a long time, and our last visit two days ago was excellent, just as it always has been. The lobster ravioli and Pollo Finanziera were absolutely delicious, but what made the evening so enjoyable was the warm welcome and the efficient, attentive service. Francesco and his excellent staff have helped us to celebrate important occasions and to enjoy everyday mid-week evening meals for the last 30 years or so, and without doubt, Casa Romana remains our favourite restaurant.

Used to love this place. Sadly the last 2 times I’ve been it’s gone downhill. Rushed to get us fed and out the door. Last time one waitress was extremely rude and unprofessional. One dish wasn’t cooked and overall gone downhill.

This food was phenomenal and authentic. The atmosphere was lovely and they were so accommodating, it was my sister’s birthday and they helped make it so special. Thank you so much would reccomend!!

A wonderful dining experience. My starter of pasta Gorgonzola had a proper Gorgonzola kick (too often it’s just creamy). We both had the grilled sea bass which was simple perfection. A place to treasure.

I was a guest at a wedding party held there, the staff went above and beyond to meet everyone's needs and the food was delicious.

The desserts, as confirmed by the restaurant owner, was made 2 days prior and had a fishy smell and tasted absolutely awful. He wasn’t very happy when we decided to not order a replacement of the same desserts, as in this situation anyone would be put off. We also didn’t want to risk contracting any health issues due to it. He mentioned he had fresh ones in the back - then why not serve those in the first place? It wasn’t our fault, yet we were made to feel really bad about this situation. Additionally, the lady at the front desk was incredibly rude and abrupt from the minute we entered the restaurant. We felt unwelcome and uneasy. Although, our waitress was very kind - thanks to her we decided to actually stay and have a meal instead of walking out! Overall, we will not be coming back to this restaurant. They need to drastically improve on how they treat their customers, and check the food they are serving. Many italian restaurants in leicester provide an excellent customer experience - and we were really hoping this one did the same!

We went along to Casa Romana to celebrate a family Birthday. The waitress who served us was not friendly or welcoming at all and everything was too much trouble. The drinks were also very expensive, a can of coca cola and two children’s fruit juices for £13! I wouldn’t recommend this restaurant to family or friends which is a shame as it used to be a hidden gem.

In February, my fiancé and I visited Cafe Florian in Venice and after a fantastic lunch we got chatting to the head waiter. Very surprised to hear his friend owns an Italian restaurant in our home town of Leicester. We finally got around to trying it last night and we were both blown away. The scallop starter was perfectly cooked and the monkfish was fantastic. My partner's swordfish was a revelation. Food, wine and service were all perfect. We will be back soon!

Come a casa! A perfect trattoria, tucked away, which delivers simple, perfectly prepared authentic Italian. Great service, friendly staff and delicious food!

We went as a family for a special occasion. The food was nice but the service was disappointing. Very rude Manager and waitress. There was no interaction with the waitress and she seemed like she didn’t want to be there. She just bellowed at us when asking if we wanted any more drinks or desserts with a stony- face! It felt like she couldn’t wait for us to leave. Our total bill was a considerable amount of money and it was just such a shame that we had to experience that level of rudeness on what should have been a very relaxed enjoyable evening. Needless to say I would not recommend and will not be returning.

We have been to this restaurant on several occasions so decided to come here for my parents 25th Wedding Anniversary, one of the waitresses was rude from the get go, her attitude was appalling and didn’t pay attention. The food was nice but came in the wrong order, we ordered a peppercorn sauce which didn’t arrive until we finished the meal despite asking where it was when the food arrived. We were rushed to pay our bill then the rude waitress demanded that we finished our drinks outside despite us not being there that long and spending a considerable amount. We weren’t the only table that said this about the waitress as two other tables made similar comments.

We had a family meal here in celebration of birthdays and an engagement. Everything was brilliant thanks.

Sadly a disappointing meal. Felt rushed from the word go. Bread was served early without Olive Oil, drinks were forced upon our group. Ordered Spaghetti Carbonara, easy enough meal to create, but somehow ruined. Tasteless sauce which was over peppered to the point my tongue was tingling. A Member of our party was shouted at for receiving a incorrect order. No a enjoyable experience.

I sat in the restaurant and a group of people came in. They seemed to be in very chatty manner . They was greeted and I heard a make raise his voice and say " your joking " . A person I assumed was a manager came to them . He was shouting at them telling them there all the same. I called a waitress over and enquired as to why the commotion ( I'm a bit nosey ) I was told its because their travellers. I asked what that ment. They said " they have to pay before they get their meal or the won't pay and police are called " . I said "what these people" ? They replied" no but they are all the same" . I was shocked that this manner of discrimination can still continue in 2023 when a baby is not a baby and you can be of no gender. But if your from the travelling community your all targeted with the same arrow. Myself and my family will not be returning to this establishment when we visit our parents .

Just been to the restaurant and recommended it to some friends After been many times before The food and service was good,however after paying £300. For 4 including a £20 tip you would have thought a lemon cello at the end would be forth coming as all other customers. Shame he just wanted to close and clear the table. Sadly we will never return

Food was nice but portions I thought were really poor for the price …. Customer service pretty poor got butter about 15 mins after asking for it and our bread had gone . Soft drinks v expensive overall a nice meal but poor service and portions

Hadn’t been here since I was a kid, came tonight and was delighted with every aspect - delicious food; welcoming, friendly, and attentive service; great atmosphere. Will definitely be returning soon.

Hidden away down the backstreets in the city centre, we stumbled across this place by chance when googling an Italian restaurant for dinner. Was fairly busy but only had to wait for 15 minutes or so. Good selection of starters and mains including fish, chicken, veal, steak and pasta. Also had some specials with mussels, scallops, swordfish or monkfish as options. I had the duck ragout whilst my partner had steak with truffle, sun dried tomatoes and cream sauce which was absolutely divine! More upmarket compared to other places in the city centre but we’ll worth the price. Food was absolutely delicious and we’re looking forward to coming back soon!

Wow, just wow... I had a truly exceptional evening at Casa Romana. Took the missus out for her birthday, and the service was superb, the food was absolutely incredible, easily matching (and in my opinion, better) than the meals from my favourite restaurant in Rome. The starters of garlic mushrooms and scallops were devoured with absolute delight, and the mains of chicken arabiata and carbonara were absolutely delicious. All at a surprisingly reasonable price, excellent value. Without a doubt, probably the best meal out I have eaten in my life, I will definately be returnimg.

Been coming here for quite a few years and always have a lovely lunch, the food is really good and served nicely, the wine is really good, the coffee is really good, what's not to like. The prices are very reasonable. Staff are always friendly....
