We had not been to Coal Drops yard before there were lots of restaurants but Casa Pastor looked colourful and lively. We were welcomed quickly shown a table, Alice our waitress bought a bottle of tap water straight away which was very welcome. She explained the menus and was friendly it wasn’t long before our drinks arrived followed by our food which was well presented. We hadn’t known what to expect but our tacos were delicious not too hot (spicy) and the chicken crispy. We thought it good value for money and would recommend it to everyone. Thank you Alice in wonderland for your help!

A change of menu means our dishes were bland. Service was basic, we didn’t expect to have to ask for cutlery for a sit down dinner ?! Toilets were dirty. Good atmosphere but what used to be a favourite of ours is now at the bottom of the list. Very disappointed as I was with new friends for a celebration dinner. The upselling at the end of the meal was a letdown.

Absolutely the best place for authentic Mexican food this side of the Atlantic. Exciting salsa selection ranging from tantalisingly fruity to complex chilli laden opuses which set the tastebuds alight. The perfect setting when one craves a taste of Mexico without the jet lag. Ah, where do I even begin? We booked Casa Pastor in Kings Cross with high hopes and the promise of unlimited chips with our dips only to be told sarcastically “guaca-NO-le, we have removed that offer!” The service was slow, impersonal and the food portions very small. Speaking of poultry portions, their Chicken Tostados consisted of two very small flour tortillas, small enough to fit a large tablespoon of spicy chicken and salsa that had been blitzed through a blender and literally nothing on the side other than disappointment!!!! I would agree with other customer comments that it felt as though we were part of an episode of the Apprentice where the challenge was to set up in a prime location to maximise on the margin!! Did I mention that the service was awful, there was no apology for the main courses arriving in three quite different stages for 6 people and with the portions so small I had finished my two mouthfuls of Tostados before the next plate arrived. I would love to hear back from Casa Pastor.

It’s hard to explain, but Casa Pastor feels like something a team would come up with as a task on The Apprentice. I expected to see Karen Brady with a clipboard in the corner; a guy who’s usually an estate agent in the kitchen, as the team try to be as cost effective with the food - opting for extremely poor quality ingredients to free up cash for a high footfall, in demand location - “these suckers will pay anything when they’re in Coal Drops Yard.” I can’t be certain it actually wasn’t - either this or an episode of Prank Patrol, filming our reactions to food we thought was a joke. Extremely oily, ingredients 0/10, quality - worse than a deep-fat-frying street vendor, service almost laughable - I honestly thought we were being pranked. I ordered the steak quesadilla - one tortilla (the same consistency as a pancake that has been soaked in lemon (only this is not lemon, this is fat)) with a flank (I think it was flank) steak lumped on top, two slices of avocado, and fried potato - like what you find at the bottom of a bag of ready salted McCoys, only less flavour. I’ve eaten in some of the ropiest, oiliest restaurants on playa de las Americas, and this was by far worse. The food didn’t appear to have been cooked or served by an actual chef (maybe he was an estate agent) it was presented in a way that was comedic - I’m struggling to explain why but the entire table gasped then laughed when we saw it. I wish I had taken a photo, but we were laughing so much at the presentation it slipped my mind/I didn’t want this on my camera roll to remember. It wasn’t just the quesadilla that missed the mark; one of us had the fish taco which was just a simple fish finger you’d get in your average gastro pub, another had the chicken tostadas which were very small - 6 bites maximum totally. The only positive was the salsa - this was generally okay. And yet this place was so busy! Is this level of quality what we accept for £15+ now? The cheapest possible ingredients + snack size portions for an amount of money that no longer feels fair for the customer? Do we accept this because of the Coal Drops Yard location and the glossy social media content? If Karen Brady had been there to ask me if I wanted a refund - I would have said yes. If she had asked if I would return - I would have said no. Big overheads on the location, but the profit margin on the low quality food must be incredibly high - it’s hard to say if the Casa Pastor team would have won in the boardroom, based on my experience I really hope they lost, and Sugar fired them all. 0/10

Nice venue and the service was ok. The food was a bit rubbish. We ordered the guacamole which came with nachos and was the nicest part of the meal. For main we had the mushroom quesadillas but I’m actually not sure that’s what we got. What came was a cigar shaped and sized roll of cheese with mushrooms in. And a corn tortilla. It’s not what i thought a quesadilla was. We got two each and they were tiny. Nobody ever returned to check everything was ok. Service charge of 12.5% auto included and you have to be really clear if you don't want to pay and then they have to go away and alter the bill.

We had a table reserved but when we arrived there was no one to greet us at the entrance and all the staff either just stared or ignored us. There was no queue and it wasn’t busy. Another customer came and the staff acknowledged them to my frustration, but neither of us were seen to. After a while we decided to go inside to grab their attention and then made to go outside where we were then left alone. After waiting for some more we were eventually seen to, and the two staff who served my friend and I - a charming man who knew a lot about cocktails and a lovely lady who delivered our food promptly - were great. The food was delicious and I wish there was more that came with the serving (2 per plate) and the drinks were delicious. Just upset that the service was so poor, which despite everything else, really dampened the lunch.

The food is poor to middling and so expensive for what you get. Two measly little tacos for £9.50+ a portion. That mark-up is ridiculous. Sides are also tiny and there’s no way they’ll amend an order to make it vegan. The ‘sharer’ is the only vegan taco - be warned if you were hoping to try one but didn’t have someone to share with. I’ll be avoiding at all costs.

Today we visited Casa Pastor with our 18 month old son, as a treat and family excursion. The food itself was delicious but unfortunately the staff were pretty disappointing, they all seemed to be in a bad mood and tired, which is surprising since it had only just opened (we went at midday). There was a strong breeze and draught at our table - pretty cold since it’s late December, and when we asked the waitress if she could do something about the door she simply shrugged and said no. There was no offer to move us to another table. No solution was offered. The other staff were all pretty miserable and grumpy. No one made any suggestions of dishes our son might be able to eat. We noticed another table with young kids got some special tacos - so maybe there’s a secret kids menu we didn’t know about. Such a shame as it really lets the place down, the food is so great but sadly I think we probably won’t visit again.

Met family here for dinner - book for a group of 12. Turned up and had to wait 5 mins to get checked in even though not busy. Then directed to a table that only seated 9. So pointed that out. More seats brought over and moved around. Heater over table not working, so we asked to move and they did which was fair enough (to a table that was set up for 12….) Had to ask for drinks rather than being offered. To be fair, was asked a couple of times if we were ready to order, but we were chatting so said no. Then when we were ready, waitress then decided to tell us that several items we wanted weren’t available (from what is a fairly limited menu in the first place). First off all disappointed around - third of what we wanted wasn’t available (including a potato side dish!) and secondly, tell us up front so we don’t waste time thinking about it! We ordered some dishes from the Tacos/quesadillas section and weren’t asked whether we wanted Tacos or quesadillas! So when they arrived - it was all Tacos. Then the wrong side ordered arrived…. Then the sharers arrived with corn dry - and the tortillas weren’t great. Had to ask for drinks a few times during the meal (not very attentive) Went to visit the toilet at the end. 1 out of order, had to wait for 1 of the other 2 to become free (and it wasn’t that busy), and when I went in, paper over the floor and floor very wet around the base of the bowl. Clearly not cleaned in quite a while. So overall, a really disappointing experience.

This was just ok. Food lacked that juicy richness of Mexican food. We were told that there were no quesadillas, bit disappointing given only a short menu. Then told there were special steak ones but these had almost no detectable cheese. Rest of the meal so-so, service happy but slow and only if you called them over every time you needed progress.

Standard Mexican food. Overpriced cocktails. Closed down now, sister branch 'Habernero' is open in Shepherds Bush.

The crab fondue is an absolute must, as are the Nachos. However, everything we had to eat was lovely. The ambience of the restaurant was a home from home feel, with exceptional customer service. Nice cocktails as well 😉. I highly recommend a visit, and don’t forget crab fondue! 😁
