Lovely location with a view to die for. Great staff and food.

First visit for many years with family and dog for a pint. Lovely views and food looked lovely. Would love to stay but looking online room prices expensive. Definitely visit again for at least a pint and the views.

We have been here a few times for lunch when visiting, with all ages from 1 to 99! Always friendly, menu choices are on a par with or better than most restaurants round here, and good quality. Great views - can eat out on the terrace or inside. Steep hill down, not unsurprising, but public car park only a few yards away by the shore. Happy to recommend - well worth a visit.

Called in for a pint. Fantastic views out over the bay. This pub is cashless...the bartender allowed me to order because I had the correct change.

Lovely setting with amazing views over the sea, it has always been a favourite place. For a really fun experience park at the top and get the cliff railway down, the kids love that. On our most recent visit we found the food is still good, we had some really nice fish and seafood and the kids fish and chips was great. But unfortunately the service was terrible. Untrained staff who simply don't know what is expected in terms of service anywhere, but which is particularly disappointing at somewhere charging these prices. Our order was completely messed up at every stage and when I went in to complain the waiter said "not my fault mate" (he later apologised and said he'd intended to say "it wasn't at my end mate " and blamed the kitchen, which then angered the chef). The manager witnessed this and did nothing, only speaking to me when I asked for him when we left and simply blaming his staff for making mistakes. I hope someone in senior management intervenes and radically improves the training otherwise people simply won't come back.

My partner and I went yesterday for a drink at the "Cary Arms restaurant". We love the place. The location is so amazing and out of the way. It is seems a little paradise where you can relax. We went just for a drink but both our drinks were nice. I love white wine not too sweet not too dry. I asked for advice from one of the bar staff and at the end I went for a wine from Australia. My partner took a cider Auspall . He like it. I definitely recommend it!!

Great food, great views and lots of outdoor space for when the weathers nice!

Food was amazing with the portions plentiful and great value for money. Service was pleasant however, very slow to be seated and served. In addition, when we finished our meals, we resorted to taking our plates and cutlery inside because they hadn't been cleared and were attracting insects and birds. The views are undeniably beautiful and a great spot to have lunch with friends. Parking is limited and the roads are narrow and steep.

Scenery was stunning. Food was lovely, had the best afternoon watching the people and boats in the water.

We stopped for a drink with my elderly aunt. The gentleman that served us was pleasant, informative and allowed us to sit in the dining area as my aunt has limited vision. Thoroughly recommend

Visited 20/6/23. Wow, the view from this establishments terrace is out of this world. Not going to eat your lunch in a better location than here. We had a variety of sandwiches and deserts which were all lovely and tasted great. My brownie with ice-cream was one of the best I've had in Devon so far. Staff were well informed and polite. Just remember cash for the car park close by as the app is a disaster, although I have to mention has nothing to do with the pub itself as is privately owned. Would return next time I am here for sure.

I live in London and have visited this pub many times over the years. When you are sat outside with a pint facing the bay, you know you're in heaven. For location alone 5 stars.

Cary Arms is a beautiful, serene and lovely place. The scenery on the deck is amazing. I love this place and would recommend it any day.

Excellent service, called in on the off chance, was found a table by the waiter with beautiful views from the terrace outside, and was very attentive. Food great too.

Our first night in the area, and the restaurant was recommended, but it fell short in almost all aspects. On arrival, thankfully we had taken a cab rather than drive, down the extremely steep road, we were offered a table in the bar, extremely dark, or we could go into the conservatory, which had views of the sea. We opted for the later. It was a surprise that so few tables were set, and it becomes a theme of the evening as more tables were set as people were waiting. The menu was limited,(we should have checked a day or so before the booking, but did not). I has scallops, with chorizo, the scallops were extremely small, and disappointing. My partner had Mackerel fillets which were ok, mains scampi and chips a generous portion! I went for the fillet steak, which was extremely small and was almost covered by a field mushroom. Deserts panna cotta with fruit, no wobble of the panna cotta and the fruits were mainly cherry’s, with some red fruits, again disappointing. Would we return, sadly no, there are better places to eat, maybe not with the view but better atmosphere and better, more reasonably priced food.

If you get the chance to have a lunch or dine there I would recommend this place fantastic one of the best places I have visited down side its down a very steep hill there a car park at the end with some of the most beautiful site you've seen.

A welcome retreat on a rainy day. Good food. Loved my fish & chips! Chef went out of his way to be helpful close to the end of their lunchtime service. Our 2-yr-old watched the cormorants diving near the beach & quay while eating her chips.

Called in for an afternoon tea and a cake/scone only to be told none available this is meant to be a 4 star plus hotel and spa the table next to us was then served a cream tea when I enquired about the scones I was told this was part of a Spa day so unless you're spending £100s not really interested in your custom

Magical place! Great views, excellent service. Very nautical! We will be back! Highly recommended. Right by the ocean with amazing vistas. Cold beer good food. Whats not to like? It really is a jewel of a place. Brought the family up and everyone loved it.

Always treat ourselves to a fine dining experience whilst on our holidays. This was without exception, superb ! The service was excellent, the location was stunning (even Sammy the local seal popped his head up a few times )the food was well presented and tasted delicious .Would definitely return here if back in Torquay.

Fabulous location with great views. Was expecting better from the food though; the Skate I had was good, but the Fillet Steak for £30 was well over cooked and had we not been with friends would have returned it. Service was good though, never felt rushed and a lift back to the top of the hill was really appreciated.

Lovely views of the coast, food looked nice, only negative is that they don't take cash and this is not openly advertised before entering which would leave one in a predicament if cash was all that you had on your person. As I mainly use cash only, rating would be more positive if they accepted it.

Gorgeous setting and great food to go with it, not cheap but you'd not expect it to be. Service from the young waiter was absolutely fantastic but the waitresses less so - didn't particularly appreciate being told we have to order immediately because kitchen was closing - this was not relayed when booking the 2030 table and wilould suggest a full half hour gap be applied to latest bookings, also seems slightly odd a kitchen closing before 2100 on a weekend..

I visit Babbacombe Downs every year. Over the years we have often popped into this pub for a drink or a meal whilst out walking. However, over the last 3 years they see themselves as so exclusive they turn people away at the door even though the pub and beer garden are completely empty. The excuse is we're always given is, taking bookings only. Happened again this weekend. As a family group we had taken our in-laws away for a joint 80th birthday celebration to Babbacombe. We done our usual walk on Saturday from Oddicombe Beach over to the Cary Arms. We could see, once again, the pub was totally empty and only one couple were sitting in the large beer garden. As our 80 year old inlaws were tired and in need of a drink. My husband went to the doors and, again, told by a member of staff they were fully booked and could only take pre-bookings. We would only have been there for 30 minutes and would have sat in the empty beer garden....and yes we were in casual clothes because we were out walking. Therefore about an hour later a couple in our group, who had not been seen, got changed and went back. They asked if they could have a drink in the beer garden and were allowed in. Shame on you Cary Arms with your outdated snobbery, discriminatory approach. Must be wonderful to be in a position to turn away all that custom because you judge how people look at the door. Luckily we were able to call a friend to drive down the hill and take our 80 year old in-laws back up the hill to the establishments who accept people as they are.

The best part was the view from the restaurant was awesome 🤩 so relaxing and was clean

Arrived at half empty pub ! To be told they were at capacity, so we couldn't even have 1 drink. This was after a long walk to get there, and I am a person with mobility problems, so had to leave without a rest. All after all covid restrictions lifted. ! Very poor 😢

We spent a lovely birthday evening with all of our close family, the staff we're excellent and the food was superb thanks again for a beautiful memory

Absolutely unbeatable location and views. One of the best tucked away spots and views in Devon for sure. Quite an adventure to drive up and down from. Really friendly and efficient staff, great local food and atmosphere to match. Highly reccomend. Recently had a birthday lunch there and it did not disappoint.

The food and service were both excellent. It was definitely a 5 star+ lunch experience. Really welcoming atmosphere and top quality food. Can't wait to go back!

A must visit if in the area but a very steep road to drive down for access. Do what we did. Catch the venicular railway down to the beach and walk the coast path to the Cary Arms. A few steps but not too bad. Try the Crab sandwich, amazing. Not cheap but worth it. Lovely views.

5 stars for the views alone. Set overlooking the bay we stopped for lunch and sat on the terrace. Our food was great and the service warm and welcoming. A must do

We stayed at the Cary Arms recently and ate there for four nights and enjoyed the food. Menu was not too large but with variety of choices to suit everyone and with a variety of different fish specials each day. All our meals were enjoyable. Not cordon bleu but all nice dishes. Wine reasonably priced. Service was cheerful and good. Moderately priced . We ate on the terrace with a wonderful view of the bay. Looking forward to going back one day when we are back in Devon.

This place is fantastic. Great views across the sea and the food is out of this world. 5 star restaurant.

Restaurant with a fabulous view. Lots of tables outside on different levels all with a view of the sea, at present 2 cruise ships and occasional glimpses of the seal by the sea wall. Lunch menu today was small enough but with some exotic choices. We had a scallop starter and a calamari one. Not battered rings just grilled with a delicious sweet chilli and alioli dressing. Followed by thick crab sandwiches and fries all washed down with a dry, very cold French rose.

Very friendly staff that would go out of the way to help you. Special mention to Tony, Ann-Marie, Thea, Steve and the other kitchen staff for making an amazing lunch. Can't wait to come back over the festive period.

Squid was exceptional. Steak was cooked to perfection. A truly superb setting, matched by a team of friendly and welcoming staff, faultless in their ability to make our evening a most memorable occasion. Well done the Cary Arms, Babbacombe!

Called in for a quick pint. £10.30 for 2 pints. Not a good start. However, the place was beautifully laid out. Light, fresh and well lit. Outside, a beautiful sun terrace with numerous places to sit. Each area with a different style and all with a nautical theme. A stunning view from the Captain's table across to Weymouth. The staff were very polite and welcoming.

Food was ok the area is not that nice for the price you pay for the rooms it really is not value for money you'd be better off staying at the Waldorf Astoria in London for the prices you pay here.
