Checked with the Manager earlier on in the day, he said just turn up & I will get you in. Sure enough he did. When we got there they had just had a massive downpour & the cellar was flooded, so only bottled drinks were available. Ordered a Carvery, great food, all well cooked, you could put as much on your plate if you wanted. Good value for money.

We popped in here one evening by chance and just got served as there was a coach party that came in 10 minutes later. We made a great choice, we had the carvery, the food was perfect, the beef was excellent as was the rest of the meal, the stuffing was especially excellent as it contained sausage and bacon. The chef was entertainment all by himself, so funny and friendly, really refreshing. He was especially sympathetic towards vegetarian dishes. Great meal just a shame we were only there for 6 days else we would definately have gone back.

I’d booked a table two weeks in advance as we were arriving on holiday that day and I wasn’t sure if we would get in due to Covid without a booking. We arrived just before our booking time and was told there would be a delay so to go to the bar and get a drink and we would be called. The tables were sticky as was the floor. We waited until 30 minutes after our booking time and as we’d been ignored, we asked how much longer it would be and was told another 25-30 more minutes. That’s when we left. We went to Thai Mukta just along the road and got perfect service and outstanding food. I’ve rated the food as average as it’s unfair to rate it anything else as we didn’t try it.

We arrived rather dazed in the Old Village from a long afternoon walk, and immediately saw the blackboards outside advertising the carvery. In through the door and straight down to the dining room at the back, which was half full with a coach party, but not particularly noisy. I had the system explained to me by the lady serving meat: you pay at the neighbouring bar for a ticket, then go back to her and exchange the ticket for a plate on which she will carve you one or two of the three meats available, in our case beef, turkey and gammon, then you help yourself to veg. We had turkey and gammon, and gammon. The meat was good quality and plentiful. There was a good choice of veg, which was hot and fully-cooked. The gravy was rather sweet, clearly an onion gravy, but too sugary for me personally. The room was like most dining rooms in large hotels, but with few staff who often were passing by on the way to or from the kitchen or doubling at the bar. The neighbouring bar had an open fire, which was warm and cosy from where we sitting. Dinner was good; filling and very welcome in our tired state. Drinks were bought from the bar by the carvery, but some had to be served from the bar in the neighbouring room, so staff had to go and bring them to you, done fairly quickly. Puddings were at an extra charge: a choice of fruit cocktail, an egg custard, slices of lemon meringue pie, strawberry cheesecake, or a kind of caramel profiterole pie, taken from a refrigerated counter. Here the quality drops off: a very similar experience can be obtained from a trip to a supermarket freezer. Pouring cream was available in a jug. There may have been other options, as we were a little behind most of the coach party. If you want a carvery/roast dinner in Shanklin, this is the place to go, but we didn't go back during our week's stay,

Whilst on holiday in Shanklin we called in on speck at the Holliers having seen the carvery sign on a board outside. We could not have made a better choice for there was a good selection of both meats and vegetables available in the hotel restaurant, also a good choice of drinks all served by the friendly staff. As it is a hotel there are limited tables available for none residents so it would be advisable to book to avoid disappointment. There is limited parking at the hotel but it is only a short walk from the large carpark in the Old Village which is free after 6pm.

We were on a coach trip so quite a few of us at meal times and as we were say in the older age bracket and it was carvery it was at the pace of the fittest or slowest, that said I have to say that we could not fault the food three different meats and lots of veg which was varied each night, I chose the beef and gammon, the beef was beautiful, moist tasty and very tender very enjoyable and as we are hoping to visit next year are looking forward to the carvery again.

We had an evening Sunday meal at the carvery which had been recommended to us by a local restaurant (which unfortunately was closed for evening meals). The food at The Carvery was lukewarm/cold but was thankfully reheated in a microwave for us. The meat was amazing, fresh hot and tender with choice of beef turkey and pork. The accompaniments also were tasty and fresh, and constantly restocked. There was lots of choice, plenty to eat and they also have a wide variety of desserts for just £1! When I was going along the line I did feel that the roasts were a bit underroasted for my tastes, and then *poof* out of the kitchen came a container of fresh, hot, very crispy roasties! Result! The carvery was £8.95 and £3.50 for wee ones, and I felt it was totally worth the price. If I had to nitpick I'd say that only being able to have 2/3 meats is a bit silly, why not just give you slightly less meat but let you have all three? That aside, I cannot fault The Holliers carvery, and will definitely return soon!!

Visited today and noticed the lack of parking with one side saying coach only. As no coach was there we asked could we park anywhere and told yes, did so and when a coach arrived there was much to do and raised voices about people moving their cars! In the end only our car and not even the other car with our party needed moved. 1 female member of staff even shouted across the bar "turn it off please, I need to go out to sort out this old woman,". My mother in law is very slightly for her age thank you. On presenting to the carvery, we were asked for our tickets, we were not given any, just receipts! Our tour group enjoyed dinner in the carvery every night of our stay. The quality of the food was really quite good. Lovely selection of steamed veggies and special items like Brussel sprouts. Good quality meat, freshly prepared Yorkshire pudding which turns out to be a very decent meal at a fair price – what else does one need? Nice dessert selection to top it all off! The restaurant was always packed for dinner.…with our group plus tourists and guests from other hotels in the area. Clearly very popular spot for dining. If you’re looking for an easy, quick, no-fuss, delicious, traditional meal then you’ve got to try the Carvery restaurant during your visit to Shanklin. We went tonight for the Carvery. We could not park in the car park by the Carvery, so as I am disabled my friend dropped me off and then had to go and park in the larger car park near the Vernon Cottage. I went inside and asked if there was a table for two as it looked packed, and there was a very nice young man who showed me to a table for two by the window. That was a relief as my friend had a way to walk back to the Holliers, but the young man said there was another car park round the back, so will try to park in one of them next time. We ordered at the bar and I had a tea, the Carvery was excellent, Two large thick slices of meat from a choice of three meats, yorkshire pudding and sauces, and then help yourself to the vegetables. There were lots of vegetables and lovely crispy Roast Potatoes, and gravy. It was delicious. Then there was a free dessert and quite a few to choose from. After reopening again in 2023 after its closure in 2022 everything seemed to be going well until late in 2023 when despite not having any information that it had closed, it shut one night never to reopen. No notices in the windows. No announcement like last time to tell their loyal customers that they'd decided to close down. And now it seems it HAS closed down & is being turned into flats! Well, there's a lot of unhappy people from over the last 30 years who would have liked to have been told 😔 Bad form Chip Ahoy....
