Fantastic Sunday lunch. The food has been good for a while but the service historically has been a little slow at times. We had a long lazy lunch this afternoon. Julia looked after us, she was outstanding, super friendly and knowledgeable, she knew the wine & food menu well. Julia made excellent recommendations which we really appreciated. Julia made the afternoon next level. A big thank you to her for making our overdue family lunch amazing! 🙏 x

Great night at the pub quiz. Rezza and his team did an amazing job looking after everyone. Excellent service. Clare was brilliant running the quiz and all for a good cause too, supporting a local charity. We will all definitely be back for the next one.

Closest pub we could find to Itchen Way at lunchtime. No expectations - so a very pleasant surprise. The fish cake was excellent. My friend raved about tre soup and cheese toastie. Recommended

The venue was attractive and inviting. However the menu was limited and whilst the staff were friendly, the service was rather slow. Overall the food was expensive, with a small fish pie costing £19.00 and fish and chips £18.50. However, the one thing which I objected to was the apparently non discretionary 12.5% service charge, added at the end of the bill, so therefore inclusive of the VAT charged on the food and drinks. The fact that a service charge will be added was to be found in small print at the end of the menu. I will happily give a tip, normally based on 10% of the bill, if the food is value for money and the service good, on the assumption that the tip will go to the staff in addition to their wages. But I object being told how much I will pay, particulalry when the prices for the food and drinks are above what I would normally expect to pay for a lunch at a pub.

Booked for lunch on Bank Hol Monday. Website says “dog friendly restaurant and bar”. We have a very well behaved Labrador and on arriving we went to the restaurant where an extremely rude and arrogant man told us we can’t sit in the restaurant because there was a baby in a pram there!! We were then marched through the empty restaurant and told to sit at a tiny bar table with two small, low and soft armchairs. The table was in a hall area next to the bar. The man tapped the table and left. I was shocked and very upset and my husband was cross. We turned and left. I have never been made to feel more like a second class citizen than at that point. The restaurant man was so awful he should be very ashamed of his attitude and behaviour but I feel he won’t be. We certainly do not recommend this establishment.

On a last minute choice we decided to go to the cart and horses in kingsworth, and we were definitely not let down!! Drinks took a lil while but it was clear that they were a lil short staffed and the ones working, especially Zoe, were all working incredibly hard. The standard of her service was impeccable and felt well looked after on our visit. The time the food was delivered did not reflect the wait on drinks as this arrived promptly, I had the sea bass and my partner had the piggy board and mussels. The food was incredibly tasty and presented well on the plates! Gives more fine dinning than typical pub food. The prices are a bit higher than normal but I’d definitely say it is value for money! Would definitely recommend to anyone wanting a nice dinner out.

What a brilliant evening at the Cart and Horses yesterday. Yes, the new decor is attractive, the refurbishment generally is successful and the food is unusually delicious. But what really made it was the wonderful service: lots of staff, buzzing around, all helpful, friendly and knowledgeable. They were obviously so well-trained. We were served quickly by people who knew what they were offering and responded flexibly to one or two unusual food requests. There was an obvious team working here and we felt the benefit. Thanks everyone.

Whilst the ambience and tasteful decor of this pub entice us, it is the staff that really make our visits so good. They are unfailing friendly and cheerful in their delivery of drinks for both us and the doggo (who is made very welcome) Please can we mention Georgia who expertly advised us on wines, resulting in a stunning choice and her care and attention with serving our meal. Stopped here after a round of golf over in Avington for a drink and ended up ordering a plate of mussels. Came back tonight to experience the full experience and ordered the mussels again as they are incredibly fresh and delicious! T bone steak for main was also cooked to perfection and was superb! We were desperate to have pudding but were so full we couldn’t. Service is fantastic, everyone appears to be enjoying themselves and they are there whenever you need them. Particularly enjoyed the service from Willow and Amelie! Can’t wait for our next visit to start working our way through the menu.

We stumbled across this pub restaurant whilst on a long drive home and it was amazing, the staff were super friendly, seating was comfortable and atmosphere was spot on for a one off sunny day. We ordered fish and chips and it was the best we have eaten, hats off to the chef!

Don’t hesitate in booking a meal at his stunningly refurbished establishment. The love and care that has been put into the decor is matched by the exceptional food. There were 13 of us dining so we sampled quite a range of dishes on the menu and not one person had anything but positive comments about their meal. The service was also exceptional. Nothing was too much trouble and we were made very welcome. We can’t wait to dine here again!

Came with my young family for lunch this Sunday. The service was awful, they really missed the mark with everything. We complained about waiting for someone to take our order, and still they didn’t get the hint. Felt like we were ignored completely- the lady at the end who gave us the bill didn’t even ask if we had a nice time… obviously she knew we didn’t.

The table was in a corner, two seats were almost the old school chairs, small and very uncomfortable. It was quite noisy overall and we had a table next to us with a dog, I thought they would have had their own area. Food was good as usual and the staff friendly, apart from barman, who told me he had no bitter but the manager said they did, not good. Service was quite slow, it was busy so perhaps they were understaffed. Overall we were happy but standards need to be raised to maintain the clients coming.

Have driven past this pub for almost 4 years. Went there one Friday night recently for a quick drink and loved it. Beautifully renovated with open and private seating areas. We found a friendly welcome and enjoyed our drinks and desserts. Highly recommended.

The service was excellent by all concerned. On arrival the table was not quite ready, however we were kept informed on how long we had to wait, and to ensure we were not forgotten about. All four meals were well prepared and delicious, however some of the roast potatoes were not cooked thoroughly and some were corky or black in the middle. However, this did not detract from the meal, as the portion sizes were very generous.

Really enjoyed our evening arrived a bit early so had a drink at the bar. Table was ready on time, service was excellent food was terrific, not rushed and we thought reasonably well priced for the quality. Staff were attentive all evening. Absolutely stunning inside and out! I initially went on my own, as my car was in the garage a short walk away, having dash cam fitted, and needed to waste an hour - so popped in for a drink! The inside décor was so beautiful, that I came back with my husband on the week-end for a drink to show him! Plenty of free on-site parking, & the outside covered area was just as stunning, & will be a cool place to hang out in the summer. I could see they have a good number of staff working, all working diligently and with smiles on their faces! We're booked to come in for food this coming week-end, as we've heard the food is brilliant!

What a little gem we found today on an impromptu vista to Winchester. The lovely Nathan assisted us with our meal order and the scrumptious marmite butter- wow. We will be back.

First time we’ve returned here after the refurbishment and impressed – very smart and clean. My son was treating us for a late Mother’s day meal. Our waitress was lovely and very apologetic at what happened and we were given (without us asking) a fair bit off the bill and the automatic 12.5% tip removed for the issues we had. I did actually tip our waitress anyway as I felt sorry for her! Our reserved table had been taken as we arrived but we were found another fairly quickly. 3 meals were served quickly but after a reminder the 4th came about 10 minutes later. We got our drinks efficiently and 4 glasses for water but the water jug didn’t arrive until the end of the meal when we asked again. 3 puddings arrived quickly but had to remind them about the 4th which eventually arrived about 10 minutes later. They were very good with asking about allergies but then served a mint tea with a chocolate brownie to one of us with a milk allergy – luckily she queried it before eating it. We all enjoyed our meals but not sure if I would go again.

Lovely, beautiful pub with an amazing atmosphere and the friendliest staff. We went on a Saturday (prior to st Patrick's) and the ambience was just amazing. Live music was some of the best we've heard. Shout out to Nathan behind the bar who made the most amazing cocktails 🙂 we will be back to this hidden gem and absolutely recommend x

We booked an evening here to celebrate a 40th Birthday celebration. We were unable to decorate the upstairs room ourselves due to an earlier party. However, the pub was very accommodating and advised us that the decorations could be dropped off earlier and they would do the decorations for us, which was gratefully appreciated. We arrived and the atmosphere of the place was buzzing and the venue was packed and obviously very popular. We were warmly greeted by a very busy establishment and had a slight delay until the room was finished being set-up this that wasn’t an issue. Our hostess Megan and her team did an excellent job and nothing was a problem for them and a few minor issues were promptly resolved without fuss. For starters, we had several mixed stix sharing platters of bread with a caramelised butter (lovely) and various skewered meats, cheese, prawns and peppers boards complete with dipping sauces. And going by the empty plates and the end of the staters, they went down a treat. There was a mixture of mains courses from Steak to burgers, flat iron chicken, lamb and venison pie and everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meals, which were delicious, cooked to perfection and of adequate quantity. And when we left the put, the clear sky greeted us with a halo moon and a perfect way to finish the evening off. A lovely establishment and team and a most enjoyable experience. Thank You.

We held our wedding reception here on 24/11/2023 & I truly couldn’t ask for more. Bronwyn & Grace were absolutely incredible for us. They have made our wedding something that will always be special. Nothing was too much for Bronwyn (events manager) and Grace was so efficient with the service. The whole team were but even more-so Grace. The venue was stunning, we had provided flowers & table decorations however Bronwyn had added some little extras for us (candles, extra vases) which was lovely and set up the venue for us. The food, WOW, this was some brilliant food, one of the guests we had even described his steak as one of the ‘best steaks he’s ever had in the UK’ Everything was so smooth and nothing was too much for the staff. I highly recommend that everyone visits The Cart & Horses. Thank you so much to everyone who works here & thank you Bronwyn & Grace !!!! You’ve made it a truly incredible experience and we are so grateful Love Joe & Hannah Howell!

This is our new favourite pub! The recent refurbishment is AMAZING and it looks beautiful both inside and out. There are so many different areas to sit, be it cosy, quiet, lively, buzzy - It’s all here! LOVELY staff with a special mention to both Jack and Amelie who were both so friendly, helpful and clearly really enjoy working here. We had fabulous starters, INCREDIBLE steak for our main course, and were so full, we couldn’t manage pudding but I hope we can next time. What a lovely place, you need to come here!

Before they closed for re fit my colleague and I were regular diners . We thought we would give their new revamped version a try, this was our first visit after their makeover. To be quite honest the whole set up is pretty poor. There are a couple of upsides in that the lady behind the bar was very nice as was our young man (student) server. If you are vegetarian don't even bother, I did comment on this to the lady bar staff who was also vegetarian, she told me that she had mentioned to the chef's time and again about their poor vegetarian menu, but her comments (as mine will be ) are ignored. Given I am the very occasional fish eater I chose their fish and chips and their prawn dish as a starter which my colleague also had. Two sticks of prawns arrived on one plate which looked ridiculous (we thought it was a plate for one) the prawns were lukewarm (never a good sign with shellfish). We did manage to get two side plates and shared the dipping sauce, which remained on the main plate. To be fair the young man server did come over to ask if everything was ok, however, the staff are not really trained to handle a situation when everything is not ok, he said he would pass our comments on . By the time he asked we had already eaten the lukewarm prawns (took a chance) and didn't really wish to make a fuss. There then followed a 25 min break before second course arrived, I was going to give them 5 mins more before walking out. When the food eventually arrived it was well presented and piping hot, So to conclude, this place is not very well run, the owners must have had ideas of grandeur when they closed it for several months for a re fit, no doubt with the ambition to take it upmarket, which it isn't. Needless to say this was the last time I would go there.

A real treasure, we loved our visit, food was incredible . We will definately be going back soon . Staff very attentive , I am gluten and dairy free, this pub was perfect to cater for me. It was very busy which we weren’t surprised as it’s a fabulous place, despite so busy you were ny rushed or feel like it was busy as every one and table were spaced so well Thank you team

This restaurant is absolutely beautiful! Staff are lovely and efficient. Food is beautiful looking as well as tasty! We had (Nellie as our waiter) she was so friendly and helpful! Thank you Nellie! Really lovely Sunday Lunch with elderly Mum and youngest son. We all thoroughly enjoyed it and our waitress, Lizzie was super helpful. Only negative comment would be I think the 'Stixs' are a little overpriced but ypu eont leave hungry after ypur roast!

Beautiful restaurant, pub, very clean (like not many these days), Very nice, pleasant staff members (especially Megan, apologies didnt get barmans name) helped our family with deciding what to order. Drinks and food were great and we enjoyed evening very much.

We popped in on the off chance and they got us a table straight away… even though it was really busy. We were served by a Jack who really was very attentive. Introduced himself as we sat down and was a really great waiter. We shared a Pizza and 4 of the starters and excellent truffle fries... made a great casual lunch with friends.. we will be back.

The refurb is amazing, but unfortunately cannot say the same about the food. The evening didn’t start well when the waitress couldn’t book us in on her IPad. Our party consisted of my husband, myself and two friends. The ladies refused starters, referred to as small plates, the gentlemen had the chicken liver parfait and the squid. The parfait was very runny and the bread was very hard. Our friend had the fish and chips, which she said was very nice. My husband had a steak which he described as tasteless. Myself and our other friend had the fish pie. It had plenty of fish but was flavourless and the mash potato topping was very watery. The side of greens was undercooked and cold. Bottle of water was £6. Overall not the best evening.

Beautiful country pub with the 5* food and service. We arrived on the off chance on a Sunday lunch time and by how busy the car park was fully expected to be turned away. However we were pleasantly surprised they accommodated us in the bar area as they were fully booked! The food and service were beautiful and we would definitely recommend.
