Carringtons in Nottingham

I've just eaten the most tasteless chips ever. I had to leave half of the servings after failing to get used to their taste.

Pleasant Fish and chips shop I only came across yesterday whilst in Nottingham, friendly staff, good quality food affordable prices. I've had food from here today again before I head for the train back up north.

I had been craving fish and chips for a while and I wanted a proper traditional meal. This satisfied my cravings as the chips were soft and fish was perfect; the batter was not too soggy or very crunchy. I enjoyed the complimentary mayo sauce.

Popped in here on the way back to the train station and me and the Mrs decided to share a large cod . It wasn't a bad but of fish but it wasn't a great bit of fish , it's was a brilliantly average piece of fish for ten pounds ? . It was maybe worth £6.50 tops and to make it worse the Mrs ate half of it so I was still hungry 😭

Absolutely fantastic service, chips were out of this world, thick crispy and fluffy on the inside, and the pizza I had looked as though it belonged in an Italian pizzeria it was ten out of ten.

My search for a new chippy after my current one (Gills in Beeston) suddenly went downhill after a change of ownership brought me here. Service is classy and attentive, with an option of lemon and tartar sauce. The texture of the chips was ideal, with a crispy crust and a soft filling. The batter attaches closely to the edge of the fish, and is just thick enough so that you don't fill up on pure batter. Now for the disappointing part - the chips and batter are pretty much tasteless, so the only method to infuse any flavour on future visits would be to drown it in vinegar. Perhaps, what some customers may regard as being clean others might regard as being rather sterile. If beef tallow isn't being used, it perhaps should be considered - or else, some substitute to improve upon the bland taste. My search goes on ...

Service was good, fish was lukewarm and tiny, for £10 i expected a lot more.

Quick service even when there’s a queue, food is always fresh and piping hot. Reasonably priced too!

Simply a great business. Shop is clean, oil changed regularly. Worth it every time!

This is shocking and disgusting. How hard is it to properly cook kebab meat? This meat was badly undercooked. I won't ever use this chip shop again.

Avoid this place! Mixed kebab simple thing....asked for extra salad ...got nothing. Kebab meat was tasteless and not very much...chicken was terrable it was in thin strips like you get from farm foods and hardly any of it! And £9.90 for that....nope never again and the place smelt like old grease. Staffs attitude well...not Interested and had those I'm better than you attitude.

Great little chippy by the train station, stop here occasionally for a treat when travelling by train. Friendly staff :)

Whether it’s a treat with workmates at lunchtime, an early chippy tea, or something delicious on a night out in Nottingham, this place always delivers and the staff never fail to be kind, patient and very efficient.The chips are excellent, the fish and pies tasty, and just a mix (as we say in Derby) very satisfying. All in all, this place is a real jewel in what is a brilliant part of Nottingham for a night out whether you are on the bus, tram or train.

Very good fish and chips right next to the railway station. Great for a quick bite when changing trains.

Presentation excellent. Customer service brought with a smile and took care in making up food order and listened to the alternatives such as no cabbage etc.

Came in after a stressful journey from Manchester and ordered a pizza best £8 I ever spent took 10 mins it was delicious, staff were friendly and chatty you could really feel like they cared.

One of the best chippies for us rail staff. Everyone loves it. Polite and friendly, food is great and portion sizes are very good. Never had a bad item of food from here...they even got me into fried halloumi and I hate that cheese. That's how good their food is 😁

I had small fish and chips for just over £5 and the portion was plenty, usually when I buy fish and chips it's about £10 and I can never eat it all. Cooked fresh while I waited, and really tasty.

Donner meat very poor quality pizza is just a nan bread not fresh dough but was really nice but for what it is should be reflected in the price 8 pound is to much should be more a fiver because its only a nan bread that's got tomato sauce not tomato puree 6 slices of pepperoni and minimal cheese on it chips where soggy with grease

Came here for quite some time, the service and workers were good, unfortunately food seems to have gone downhill seems when I ordered a normal chips and curry I experienced food poisoning/bad stomachs. Not sure Il be coming back, good luck to those who still get food from this chippy hope you get a good meal.

Nice fish and chips shame they thought the cod I ordered was ok to swap for plaice though. As I hadn't had time to eat all day & this was my 1st meal of the day at 7.30 p.m I didnt complain about the mix up. Fish was nice and plenty of chips to go with it

A quaint place that offers food, good food is sparse near the train station. Has a few seating areas for a quick bite and go. Had £4.40 chicken wings and chips, a good bargain. Wings were cooked to order in about 5 mins. It says 4 wings but is both wing parts together so technically 8 pieces (in before and after pics).

What can I say, I have stumbled on a little gem, lovely fish and chips, a lovely welcome too. With parking a nightmare I managed to park in the Station car park for £3.00 and just down the road I found Carringtons eatin eatout chip shop, I will definitely be here again if I visit Nottingham again.

I went a few days ago and got a mini cod and chips. Food was fresh and tasted delicious as always! I don't get to go to this shop much so, it's always a nice treat when I do get to go.

I had the small fish and chips from here. £5.00--which in this day and age is an excellent price. The guy shovelled me out a sad-looking piece of fish from the keep-warm cabinet. From its slumped appearance, it looked like it wouldn't be hot. And, sure enough, it was lukewarm, with that soggy batter and greying flesh which results from sitting about too long after being fried. This was a quiet mid-afternoon, mid-week, so I guess the shop wasn't on its A game. Nonetheless, the chips were, by contrast, piping hot and fresh. So I relished them; and they nearly made up for the sorry bit of fish, most of which the canalside pigeons, at least, enjoyed.

Just paid £7 for the most horrible piece of battered fish I have ever tried to eat. Took the first one back as it was cold, tough and rubbery. The assistant wasn't too pleased to replace the fish but to be honest the second one was even worse.

A fish and chips shop right next to the station with everything you could want from a first and chip shop. I have chips, mushy peas, saveloy and fish cake for £6.30. Absolute bargain and tasted great. Lovely friendly service from the lady with the long eyelashes. A big smile and appreciate the attention. 100% recommended for food on the travel. Kebabs looked nice as well

I HAD to have Pie, Chips and Gravy (I live in Essex) and Carrington's served up a real treat. So good, that I returned after I had finished the "first" course, to get ANOTHER serving of Chips and Gravy! 6 out of 5 stars in my book.

Great place to get fish, chips and other fish shop foods next to the station. Food is always great and staff are polite.

Clean, popular, central, quick, courteous, friendly, not a rip off and I think quite keen to promote local arts and crafts. On the food...they have it all but I keep going there just for their fried (in batter) halloumi. To die for!!! Rectangles of halloumi, soft and immensely tasty, deep fried in a light crispy delectable batter, that leaves one gagging for more! I usually have 5!!! One can get them on their own or with chips and toppings, open or closed. One can eat there! I always come away wondering how I might create another reason to come into Nottingham again so I can indulge myself in these gustatory wonders! Check Carrington's out and try the rest of their extensive menu. I do not think you will be disappointed!!!

Ordered a Chicken Burger and Chips, 2 dips, a fanta, 2 fishcakes and a large chips today after leaving the train station. Paid for it all at the counter and took a taxi home. Got home and opened the food only to find out that the two fishcakes and large chips were missing, yet I must have paid for them because I got around £7 change l from a 20 note. Stuck at home now, not worth wasting money getting back to town to complain about it. Very upset I wasted a fiver on nothing. Would avoid in future.

In a rush after fetching my daughter, so headed to an old favourite of mine - ordered large chips, battered sausage, pie, sauces galore and came to £10.30 which in all honesty was reasonable. Got home and lashed on extra salt, have to say everything was perfection - the pie was hot throughout and the mushy peas was perfect consistency. The gravy was better than KFC and my chips, mushy peas and pie was happy. I will be going back

Food here is usually good but they still use polystyrene to serve food in... It's not the 80's anymore! Please sort it out and start using cardboard / recycled material.

I’m 70, so had my share of fish and chips over the years, including from the original and renowned, Harry Ramsdens The fish and chips from here were top notch. Crisp batter, on a good size fish, and chips that didn’t go soggy after 5 minutes, with crispy bits. Brought back memories of my childhood, when they were wrapped in newspaper. Highly recommended. And I was in and out of the shop within 2 minutes. Probably I caught them at a rare quiet time!

There is a lot of choice in food, price is very reasonable and the food is great. The staff very welcoming and helpful.

My twin brother Stephen and I had been to quite a few pubs around the train station area when we decided to grab a bag of chips each as we were feeling a bit peckish. We were actually sat outside The Barley Twist Pub enjoying a quality pint each and the smell of the chippy next door to the pub was so good ,after finishing our pint we got a big bag of chips each ,these were absolutely delicious, proper,thick cut chips ,so tasty and just what we needed, a delicious, tasty and unpretentious meal on the go ,this chippy is easy to locate along Carrington Street, most definitely well worth checking out if you're in the area.

It didn't come with that tartar sauce as advertised. Also found a huge bone in the fish. Unacceptable excuse for no loyalty stamp collection when charging that price! Also, exceptionally dry fish!

I have had chicken nuggets and wings. The portion size is satisfying for the price. The taste is mouth watering along with a friendly service. All in all, a very decent and modest restaurant.

Bought a meal here on 3rd August. The service (Mike) was very pleasant and efficient. The haddock and chips were also excellent, really very good indeed and a decent portion size too. A small fly in the ointment, but not the establishment's fault: parking is tricky. I parked up, paid for the meal and got change back for the parking machine - only to get back and find a ticket on the car with a couple of very pleased "Parking Attendants". I was away seven minutes! Nottingham thanks you for shopping locally... Nevertheless, don't ignore Carringtons. I was really pleased to have found them and hugely enjoyed their fish and chips.

After a day's cricket at Trent Bridge, I walked into town and got a bag of chips from my favourite chippy before my train home. I hadn't been to the centre of Nottingham for eighteen months because of the pandemic but the quality of the chips was as high as ever. The chip shop's near the station so if anyone's waiting for a train and hungry I can recommend Carringtons without hesitation.

I had the seafood basket. Calamari, squid, cod bites and shrimp fried, battered and hot. Went back the following week as it was so, so good! Highly recommended with the wedge of lemon and tartare sauce
