Booked afternoon tea for my birthday, which fell on the Christmas package. The food was lovely. The decor and attention to detail were amazing. I will definitely be booking again next year

Very disappointing today..... 4 ladies treating ourselves before Christmas. Booked well in advance and advised that 1 x gluten free and 1 x no chocolate, it makes me very ill. (We have been previously with no issues). Lady confirmed on arrival and again by another member of staff in our compartment. Tea ordered and arrived quickly. Then it all went downhill. My (chocolate free) arrived and it was the little sandwiches and 4 scones and a tiny mince pie. I asked if this was really what I was supposed to have,? No alternative, that was what they had to offer me! I said that I did not wish 4 scones.... would anyone? If that was all I was being offered I would have the regular offering and take them home. Next server can in...she was chatty and said she totally understood. By this time gluten free has arrived and had a egg custard tart with raspberries..... oh I could eat that! Asked if possible. She went to ask and sadly no, not possible at the time, the cook would come to speak to us. I said I'd rather not as all the experience was to be with my friends not going over this again to everyone. It was really not comfortable rehashing what couldn't be changed. Chef appeared and basically told us that the menu changed seasonally and we should have been told limitations when we booked. We certainly were not advised of 4 scones!. Next another lady popped in to say we had to go to 'the barn' to pay. We finished our 2 hour session, collecting boxes to take bits home. Went to barn to pay, usually pay on train. When asked lady said that this was new method they were using. Paid. Whilst we were saying our goodbyes in the car park... no other guests went via the barn. We asked and all had paid at their table. Popped back into barn and lady said 'no I decided you should come here'/'to ask how your afternoon tea was'........ She never had asked as I would certainly have told her my total disappointment of my experience. When a booking is made in advance, with dietary needs, please do NOT accept it if you can't cater for it. A relaxed chilling time with friends became just quite awful and spoilt totally by the '4 scones' or nothing and the repetition.

Wow. What a beautiful experience in a beautiful setting. Upon arrival there are some immaculate gardens to walk through, with lots of little railway acknowledgements on the way. We had high tea for 2 and sat in the stunningly beautiful Louis carriage which has been beautifully restored, perfect comfy cozy setting. The table layout was immaculate the food tasted beautiful and was beautifully presented. Lovely freindly service staff who were more than helpful and courteous. All in all a beautiful experience. My family and I had such an amazing experience having afternoon tea at Carriages of Cambridge. We were seated in Oliver, a first-class Pullman style carriage which we paid an additional £20 for on top of the afternoon tea (£30.50pp) this was so worth it in my opinion for the comfort and privacy it provided. The whole grounds are stunning with lovely gardens to walk through before getting to your carriage. The whole experience was so much fun from start to finish! It really felt like we were living in the 1920s and there is so much attention to detail to make it a really authentic experience. The food was presented beautifully on two cake stands. There was a good sandwich selection of chicken and sweetcorn, egg mayo, cheese and tomato, ham and cucumber. The sweets were my favourite part especially the macaron and we were given takeaway boxes for the food we couldn't finish. The only small downside is that the train does rock slightly when people move around so not ideal for motion sickness prone people like me! However none of my family were phased by this. I really enjoyed my experience at Carriages of Cambridge and have highly recommended to others.

I've wanted to have a classic high tea for a long time and share the experience with my husband, who has a different cultural background than mine. After searching various places, I decided on Carridges. The quirkiness of having a high tea on a classic pulman train carridge looked exciting. As this outing was for my birthday, we went for the high tea and booked a private compartment in their Oliver carridge. It did not disappoint. Walking through the display gardens onto the station where the Carridges are set is lovely. We were greeted by warm, friendly staff, who checked your booking and confirmed issues around any dietary issues. We were shown to our compartment, which was lovely. A small bottle of bubbly to share and our choice of tea ordered, and our high tea arrived. The staff were very attentive about allergens, and there were no issues with what we had. There was a lovely selection of finger sandwiches, warm savouries, little desserts, and then followed by the scones. We swapped out the savoury scones for the sweet ones, and this was no issue. There was more than ample for two people, and we were offered boxes to take the remaining items home. My husband loved the tea and was furiously searching the Internet once home to find some. The one thing I would advise on is that if your sat nav is not up to date, it would be better to use Google maps on your phone. As the though the new roads can confuse. Once near, follow the actual signs for Banolds as you immediately turn left into the car park for carridges. I say this as Google Maps got confused at this point and was trying to take us into the driveway of a house. (Carridges was directly behind here).we also had the 3.15pm sitting, so bear in mind the tea time rush hour traffic when you are finished.

We were bought a gift voucher for afternoon tea. The setting was delightful and took you back to the victorian era, with 3 carriages, a signal box, signals, waiting room and toilets all done out in victorian Style. Waiting staff were pleasent and helpful. My husband who is gluten sensitive was catered for too and enjoyed his sandwiches and cakes. We both throughly enjoyed our afternoon and would recommend this place. The scones were yummy and warm. The carriage (lancelot) had the clickerty clack of the track and had a gentle rock in the carriage(nothing off putting). Very well done and in keeping.

Lovely setting. Nice food and friendly quick service. I liked the way the 1st class carrage gives you the feeling that you are travelling on the track by the slight rocking motion it has. I found the seats comfy but a little big for the carrage. A bit of a squeeze to get in because of the table. Maybe a table that could fold up and down to allow more room to get into the seats. I feel it would help to have a wet wipe not just a napkin for sticky fingers. Maybe a button to press which connects to a flashing light on the outside of each carrage to communicate when you require service. All in all a lovely birthday treat. I Would highly recommend this for anyone that is looking for a quirky treat.

5stars across the board. Wonderful afternoon tea experience, sitting in authentic train carriages. We paid extra and had a Pullman carriage and it was worth every penny. We had piped 40/50's music, making the experience even more special. We started off with a Floral Tea and it was quite something to see the bulb open up in front of you. Afternoon Tea was a selection of fingers sandwiches, three wonderful little cakes and then two scones, fruit and plain each, with cream and jam. Needless to say we polished them off with a couple of drinks. You could take home anything you did not eat though. The staff were so polite and friendly and dressed to the era. If there was anything to say negative, it would be we were not offered any further sandwiches but we did not need them. I will revisit and take my husband next time. Well done Carriages of Cambridge for a wonderful afternoon.

I am very sad to give a negative review for this splendid venue and authentic restaurant. I think we had a poor experience on that day as you will see that it is by no means typical. However it left us disappointed and put us off planning a small group party as a treat for a special occasion. We went for the morning coffee and cake a very nice gardener appeared and said he would inform staff that we were waiting outside by the wait sign. A nice young man showed us into a carriage. There were no other guests and it was very cold. our table he showed us to had no table cloth. Later he brought the menus and said he put on the heating. We were left to choose and later he took our orders. There were no price for the cakes only for the beverages. Our hot drinks arrived in very cold china. Then the wait for the cakes were so long after 20 mins my husband went out to see what was taking so long by which time we had finished our hot drinks. The waiter brought the cakes soon after.Again the china was very cold. The scones when cut burst and were dry crumbly as if they were warmed from defrosted. Also very small in size. We did not see any staff to check or ask if all was well and by then too cold and decided to leave. A young lady appeared we asked for the bill . We paid then asked if the scones were defrosted and if that is why they took so long to bring to our table. She said they were freshly made then We explained that coordinating the drinks with the food did not happen. Having the hot drink with the cake is the essential part of the experience. She smiled and said well lets hope its better next time and said sorry for our experience. What also made it worse was that On our way out we looked into the amazing barn where a lady asked about our time and we relayed our disappointment which she casually dismissed and said scones should have been freshly made. I personally know a little about baking and I usually can tell when scones are freshly made then served or frozen and later reheated.Carriages has a fascinating history and a unique setting but On this occasion the service and the food offering sadly fell well short.

This is my third visit to Carriages for high tea. Consistently very high quality! It's just a great way to spend a couple of hours. The whole experience takes you back in time - the original old train carriages, the station, the food, the background music. With all of that authenticity, and the extraordinary attention to detail, you really do feel transported to a time when everything feels so carefully and wonderfully crafted. The whole atmosphere is calm and relaxing and the occasional slight swaying of the carriages as people walk about gives just a hint of being on a moving train! We always book a compartment seating 4, in high- back Pullman armchairs, as the comfort and intimacy for us adds to the sense of luxury. The timing of the food and drinks coming, together with the waiting staff, are excellent.

What a lovely experience. Friendly efficient service, nice old train carriage. And the afternoon tea option we had was delicious. We had a box to use as a doggy bag to bring home the leftovers for eating later!

Food and service was amazing! We forgot to check if we could take our dog and they were good enough to provide table service in the garden. I would definitely recommend but Dogs are not allowed inside.

A family run Italian restaurant with a heart in cooking so good that you may regularly visit. What makes the first try is either from a friend's recommendation or credible reviews that's why I am writing this one ! Love the pasta, pizza and tiramisu .

Popped in for a lovely lunch, and stayed longer than planned in the end. Friendly staff, efficient yet relaxed atmosphere with a wide selection of food choices and gins! Shame the weather was dire or we'd have loved to spend the afternoon in the garden.
