This is absolutely our favourite restaurant and never disappoints. Would highly recommend to anyone. Recently went for a family meal for my husband’s birthday and the food & service was amazing as usual.

Good location, good selection of food and drinks at a good price, friendly and helpful staff, would definitely go here again.

We had a family birthday to celebrate. We received a warm welcome and the service was very good. We enjoyed some delicious starters, mussels, scallops, calamari king prawns and hallumi, which we all thought were excellent. For mains we had steak, burgers and fish all again were very good. A lovely restaurant and meal and we will definitely be back!

The restaurant was empty on arrival and we chose to sit outside , Service was a little slow, and server went home half way through our meal and new member appointed Starters were ok , the steak tartar was the star of the show Mains were banging steaks seared and rested soft and juicy Fish was a farmed sea bass for the money and the quality of the mains on the whole would of liked to have seen a nicer piece of fish Had to place order inside for puddings Which were ok. On the whole was a good experience But could polish up on a few skills of service Service charge should be earned and not expected, when we booked we said we were coming from a graduation, and paid a requested deposit, but no congratulations or recognition, simple social service skill's

Absolutely superb, six out of five! Wonderful staff, lovely atmosphere, incredible edibles. Really can't compliment you all enough for an exceptional evening. Perfect.

I NEVER post negative reviews, but my experience with the owner was terrible here. As it was a nice warm day, I phoned in the morning to swap out 8pm table for an outdoor table. When we arrived, we were greeted by the owner. I explained we had booked an outside table and he advised it was impossible, only outdoor tables could be booked at 7pm and 7.30pm. He then went on to say irrelevant of whether I called, it was his rules, no one else's. He was extremely rude, implied I was lying. There was a note next to my name in the bookings book which clearly stated outside. Thankfully one of his waiting team came over and found us a table. If it wasn't so busy in other restaurants we would have gone elsewhere. The food was lovely, as were the waiting staff. However we will not be returning. Even business owners need to admit when they are wrong, and can do so without being so rude.

We came as a group of 8 and everything was 10/10. The staff were attentive, the food was delicious and the restaurant itself is lovely. Everything was reasonably priced too so we were able to enjoy exactly what we wanted. I would recommend this for couples, families and friends.

Having been to Carnicero several times before and enjoyed the experience, my wife and I ventured out mid week for a steak meal with positive expectation. This time we had starters and main course - steak and ribs. The steak was ok, not the best or the worst, but the ribs were truly awful. When you think of ribs you think juicy, falling-off the bone and flavoursome. These ribs (two large beef ribs) were greasy, overcooked and tough. Served with two dollops of coleslaw, and chips (which were also overcooked). Really disappointing. Food not great and certainly not up to the standard based on previous experience and not worth the relatively high prices. And here’s the main story….the waiter came over shortly after we received our main courses to ask if all was ok. We replied “yes” having only just started to eat the main course. After 10 mins or so of trying to persevere with the first of the two big ribs, I realised that they were just awful and returned the dish to the kitchen. Over half of the total food was still on the plate and clearly not touched. I didn’t ask for a replacement meal (realising by the time anything arrived my wife would have finished her steak) nor was one offered…just a meek apology. Then it was time for the bill which not only included the full price of the main ribs course which I had returned, but also contained a non-discretionary service charge. I then asked to speak with the manager to ask why we had been charged in full for the meal returned and he said “ he couldn't do anything because when he had asked “ was the food was ok” we had said yes and “I had eaten over half of the dish” . Essentially he was implying that the meal must have been ok because I ate some of it or that I was simply trying to get a free meal. He argued this with me and then agreed to remove the non-discretionary service fee but would not budge on the price of the ribs (£25). The moral of the story here is be very careful what you say in this restaurant when asked about your food because it may be used in evidence against you! I wasn't in the mood or had the time to stand at the bar and argue the toss with the manager …but I can tell you this…in over 40 years of travelling all around the world and eating out I have only twice ever returned food to the kitchen. This was one of those two occasions. Suffice to say my wife and I will never eat at this restaurant again and I told the manager this …….to which he seemed completely indifferent. There are plenty of good steak restaurant in Southampton …..go elsewhere!

Me and my family came here for a Sunday roast and it was amazing! The service was impeccable, they were so attentive and the atmosphere was brilliant! Could not fault this place, it felt like we were in someone’s home, just so relaxed and intimate! Thank you again!

Lovely lunch over February half-term visiting my son at Uni. Meat was perfect and my other son had a burger. We all enjoyed it.

This is our third visit to this restaurant and they never fail to impress. The food is excellent, well priced and the staff make the whole experience a pleasure. Looking forward to our next visit.

Carnicero has quite possibly the worst booking system imaginable. Three times i have attempted to make bookings based on times that are advertised as available on their website and three times in a row they have then written to say they cannot honour the booking request for the date/time showing as available. Even after saying no via email, those times are still showing as available for other people to attempt to book. It just results in frustrated customers which is made even worse by the fact they do not even attempt to find a way to remotely accommodate your request. Once or twice i can understand, but three reservation requests in a row, all showing availability to then be refused is just unacceptable. It doesn't matter how good the food is, if you treat your customers this way they will not come back!!

I've been here about ten times now and the food has been fantastic every single time. I've had most of their steak cuts including the tomahawk and fillet and highly recommend both. The service is good and the atmosphere is good but above all, the food is excellent. I'd highly recommend this restaurant!
