Carndale Fish Bar in Amber Valley

Simply the worst fish and chips I have ever purchased. I'll not say eat as I didn't get that far. They went in the bin. Arrived at tea time. Not busy. Ordered mini fish meal with curry. Told me the fish would be fried fresh. I didn't see the fish and chips being wrapped. I was stood outside the shop, collected my order and travelled the short distance home. My suspicions should have been aroused by the amount of oil that was seeping through the wrapping paper onto the mat on my van floor. On unwrapping, the fish was a burnt brown colour, soaking in oil with not a hint of crispness to the batter. The oil that was not soaked in the fish was the colour of, well I've seen cleaner oil come out of a gearbox. Chips were soggy, oily and again awful. All this for £11. I'm not sure but if you order the items individually it is cheaper. I'll not be checking as never going back.

We were just staying in the area for a week but had two meals from this chippy. Both were excellent. I'm always wary about fish & chips - too many seem to think quickly cooked is better than properly cooked. It isn't. This chippy cooks your order fresh and it's hot and tasty. The staff are friendly and efficient and the food is great. Chapeau for the gravy, better by far than most. Be aware they do the fish in mini and regular. I ordered regular, thinking it would be regular size - it's not. It's enormous. Huge. The second time, we ordered one between us. How they cook fish this big, so well. I don't know. Excellent. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend them.

Absolutely terrible never again are you getting my money fish burnt and dripping with oil and I mean dripping with oil the amount of oil that was dripping I could of used it in my car don’t go Here please don’t waste ur time or money with this chip shop I feel sick having these chips and fish

Highly recommend this fish and chip shop. Very tasty and large portions given, they give the doggies sausages too.

Great food, very generous portions. Free sausages for the dogs! Only downside is that it isn’t open every night. Highly recommended

We passed this chippy on our way to the holiday home, we decided to give it a try. Well, the fish was enormous and the portion of chips did not disappoint, we originate from Grimsby, so know a thing or two about fish and chips. The service was very well organised and very friendly. The six of us who ate, were very happy with the food and really couldn’t eat it all. I have nothing to criticise about this shop, I would highly recommend and we are likely to be back. The small fish is about standard anywhere else, or share a regular! Well done Cardale, you have won our hearts 🐟 🍟 🫛 ❤️

We went for a chippy tea, whilst staying in Crich and weren’t disappointed! We had standard fish (cod) which was huge, we saw large and it was like a whale, these portions are not for the faint hearted, Desperate Dan size or share them. The batter was crispy & chips lovely. We also has sausage & pukka pie, real tasty mushy peas. The staff were lovely & very friendly.

We were staying nearby for a weekend away and decided to try the fish and chips on the Saturday night. We didn’t regret it at all! All of the food was amazing and the portions were huge! The staff even gave the dogs a sausage each free of charge! If you are staying nearby you must visit! P.s. the chicken curry and chips was amazing.

We visited tonight while enjoying a weekend away, it smelt delicious while walking towards it, the shop was immaculate and staff were polite and friendly. We are used to smaller portions at home and planned to purchase a fish chips and peas each, little did we know the regular fishes are the size of baby whales! The fish was cooked fresh when we arrived, the batter was crispy and the fish just fell apart inside, the chips and peas were also delicious. The staff even gave our dogs a sausage each too! I can not praise this establishment enough and we will definitely be coming back.

I Wanted to order food for 6 people, owner reluctantly did this but said he doesn't normally take orders to be collected later..... Anyway I collected it sometime later , was nice and hot, Fish was huge ! however the chips were soggy and the battered sausage appeared to have shrunk inside the batter ?? Ladies serving were lovely Not ceap for a chippy tea compared to other parts of the UK

Possibly one of the best fish & chip shops in the area.very friendly staff,food is cooked to order & is the best it’s been for a number of years.

Wow this was outstanding. Our doggy loves fish she ad mini fish .and we had fish chips peas and curry sauce .was so much we have our tea for the next day .our doggy had her fish and she woffed it down so fast was delicious. Would highly recommend this place .and we will be definitely be back again very soon .ie excellent service very friendly staff....as mick maskrey put everything first class and it was .thank you .

Sorry guys, friendly service and I didn’t mind the long wait but the outcome was disappointing. Everything was hot and fresh and the chips were fine, however, the batter on the mini and regular cod was really thick and so over cooked, that there was virtually no fish inside to eat.

Fish and chips are lovely from here and a massive portion the staff are lovely would definitely recommend and would definitely go again we went twice in one week

The queue outside should not put you off! It should encorafe you! The chips are perfect, fish cooked to order and not left lying around. Their attention to detail and quality shows. The banter and frendliness comes for free. I'd give it it a higher rating if i could.

Fish Portions were huge (dare I say too generous?) and cooked to order. Mini fish would be more than enough for an adult (or 2) the regular was ridiculously big. Quite thick batter though and too much for me. Chips were lovely!

Like to plan walks near here to get an appetite! Small shop so waiting outside at the moment, but orders taken outside as the fish is cooked to order. The so called 'mini' fish is not mini! Service certainly with a smile and great value...

Walked from our cottage 2.5 miles one Friday evening during lockdown. Efficient and friendly ordering system. Superbly clean. We ordered mini fish, chips and peas. They were enormous, excellent batter. Good job we had the walk back. Well worth the visit.

We telephoned through a very large order (virtually everything on the menu) for nine if staying at a nearby holiday cottage. The order was ready almost exactly on time (just final wrapping to be done). The staff serving are so friendly, warm, welcoming and polite....

I asked for chips and gravy and was automatically given large chips. I am a pensioner and wanted the small size. 'We automatically give this larger size.' I therefore paid £2.50 for chips and gravy. They were, once again undercooked. No wonder I haven't been there for some time. Such a pity that once again I was disappointed after my visit. Under cooked and dull.

Always a friendly atmosphere and very welcoming. Eager to help in anyway and speed your order along if possible by asking if you need any specials cooking when you enter the shop! Really nice family? team behind the counter . Always listen to your requirements e.g. not to many chips or more gravy etc!

The lovely people at the Cardale Fish Bar provided a fish and chip supper for nearly 60 guests at my wife's 70th birthday party last Saturday. It was very well organised, went very smoothly, the food was great and served hot and all of the waste etc. was cleared and taken away by them. We were extremely impressed as were our guests and it helped towards making the night a memorable one. We are very grateful to all of the staff involved and would have no hesitation in recommending them for your function.

Have visited the chippy on many occasions and have never had a bad meal, the people that run the place are so friendly and helpful would most definitely recommend to all.

Friendly, efficient Staff who never seem to stop talking. In there for about 10 minutes and was made to feel very welcome. The fish and chips are excellent. What else can I say apart from, use it. Good value.

Got there 5 mins before they closed tonight. Fish and chips were cooked fresh for our order and both were a perfect 10/10 for all of us! Last order they put out was clearly as careful prepared as the first.

La gente que tomó el año pasado sobre Cardale chippy han hecho un trabajo excelente en revitalizar el negocio. La comida está recién hecha y sabrosa. Su bacalao y eglefino porciones son muy generosas y están dispuestos a asesorar sobre cómo de grande una porción de patatas fritas a la orden!

Primero de todo soy nada que ver con el pescado Cardale Bar. Sin embargo, no volvería a hospedarme con mis padres cerca de Crich dos o tres veces al año desde Hong Kong, donde yo vivo.

We had to que in the street to get into the takeaway. Sells a good product at a fair price as quickly as they can. Take your meal over to the sea wall and enjoy. Highly recommended.

This is a lovely little village chippy, it was our first visit after reading reviews on Trip advisor. The owners were friendly and the fish cooked fresh as you wait. Big selection on the board to choose from, the pies looked great so will try them next time as there is a deal on at the moment, pie chips peas and gravy for i think it was £3 99?. Bit of a narrow windy road into Crich specially in a motorhome but was worth the trip. We will be back!

Han estado aquí varias veces y siempre tenía la oferta de tarta que tiene una buena relación. Las tartas son las mejores que he tenido en un "fish and chips". Porciones de patatas fritas y salsa son buenas. También tengo siempre una porción de guisantes blandos que son buenas. El personal de la tienda es muy amable también, lo cual es una ventaja. Que no he tenido el pescado u otros alimentos sufridos pero todo parece bien. Recomendaría este chippy

Hemos preparado un té cada semana desde aquí y desde que fue reabierto bajo nuevos propietarios, y sinceramente no lo suficientemente grande hasta la comida, mi esposa es vegetariana y le encanta el queso y cebolla viernes no cosas y también cocinar por separado de la carne y el pescado productos venden. Nuestra hija le encanta patatas fritas y nuggets de pollo, y yo siempre opto por tradicionales de pescado y patatas fritas. Siempre nos dan una cordial bienvenida y estamos encantados de tener un gran lugar para conseguir nuestra semanal regalo. Sigan con el buen trabajo.

Recientemente comenzó un negocio local en el pueblo y como tal utilizar los servicios allí regularmente. Esta revuelta es absolutamente increíble, con un personal amable, accesible y un verdadero ambiente familiar. La comida es genial fresco con porciones enormes y el servicio con una sonrisa. Ahora viajar 10 km de ida y vuelta para conseguir patatas fritas con mi familia que la tienda conoce por nombre y conocer las preferencias. Esta tienda debería ser para premios!

Personal encantador, amable y limpio pero me decepcionó tienda el pescado estaba fresco n veía hermosa pero no fue preparado dentro del pez no flake n las patatas fritas eran conchas de patata crujiente con no sólo dentro. Han estado en el pasado y era perfecto.

With volunteering at the tramway museum at Crich was told about this chip shop so I gave it a try, very friendly staff, the fish cooked to order lovely and clean, great chips, couldn't fault it at all,Only open on certain days though but well worth a visit.

Nos alegramos mucho esta "fish and chips" ha abierto otra vez. Rara vez hemos pescado y patatas fritas, pero cada vez que hacen un cambio encantador. Cuando nos trasladamos aquí unos 16/17 años atrás la vieja "fish and chips" era muy bueno. El propietario era una miseria, sino que podía cocinar el pescado y patatas fritas. Después de dejar el lugar nunca estaba muy bueno y las ofrendas de los últimos propietarios eran tan malas que nos dejó de ir allí completamente. Nos gustaría conducir a Robinsons en Cromford en su lugar. No hay necesidad de un viaje ahora. Decidimos tomar un almuerzo para llevar un sábado hace un par de semanas y estuvimos muy contentos con lo que tuvimos. Esta es una tienda adecuada de chip y se concentra en conseguir ellos justo. No se puede hacer pizza y los pinchos y todas esas cosas, pero lo que sí hace que hace bien. El pescado es fresco y gruesas y está envuelto en luz, pasta fresca. Las patatas fritas crujientes por fuera y suaves y dulces en el interior. No una pizca de grasa. El tamaño de las porciones son enormes. también muchas fichas para mí, pero no es una queja. Los propietarios son muy amables. Gente agradable. Les deseo suerte y espero que la gente local te detrás de ellos para asegurarse de que esta super instalación siga así. Sin duda apoyo.

Vivimos en una aldea vecina y cuando nos trasladamos aquí, hace cuatro años, visitamos este lugar con los antiguos propietarios. Nunca volvimos. Cuando oímos fue re apertura decidimos pagar ellas una visita y son las mejores patatas fritas que hemos tenido! Teniendo en cuenta que una plétora de pescado frito con patatas fritas y las tiendas están a la vuelta de la esquina en Matlock - no son nada tan bueno.
