What a fabulous place, candlelit, atmospheric and a very well cooked fillet steak. If you want something different and unique this is your place. Try and go when the roof is open, the views are stunning.

Unique venue for a wonderfully presented meal. Went with friends and were not disappointed by the service, quality and price of the meal or especially the views. Highly recommended.

What a place to have dinner! A proper castle , amazing views from the roof, quirky and original inside, the only modern addition is the windows to keep the weather out. A beautiful venue for any occasion reasonably priced food and drink. Well worth the rough ride to get to it.

A unique and special way to enjoy fabulous food and the atmosphere of a very special place. I recommend that all should go and enjoy , I thoroughly enjoyed it all.

Have always wanted to eat here. Food was excellent and the service was good. Just didn't enjoy the atmosphere. Staff were attentive, but it just felt like we were an inconvenience.

Definitely a meal we won’t forget anytime soon, in a very special setting! Highly recommend booking in advance and making sure you drive there with an SUV or leave the car at the bottom of the hill!

Second time here...it has to be one of the best restaurants we have ever been too. Fabulous, beautifully cooked food with a wonderful authentic taste without being overly as spicy. Amazing service from truly lovely people. Competitively priced given the excellent quality produce. Recommend lamb kebabs and arabica coffee and chocolate brownies. Great ambience in a truly unique setting. Romantic for an anniversary meal, which ours was. Thank you so much. We hope to visit you again.

Amazing food, amazing atmosphere, great service with friendly staff, amazing views. They allow you to go up to the rooftop terrace, and if you book a table for the evening you can catch some amazing sunset views.

Brilliant place with fantastic food

Great ambiance, good food and a wide variety of vegetarian options. We loved the experience of dining in a castle. Charming!

Our table was on the lower floor which has no atmosphere- only 3 tables and with no character whatsoever, compared to the main restaurant upstairs - which is where the whole magical experience happens! Very disappointed. Been several times and usually the food is great but this time it felt very skimpy - mean in fact. The amount of hummus and the baba ganoush were unreal. Literally no more than a tiny spoonful scraped round the sides of the little bowl to take it look full. The 4 of us were gobsmacked! So much pitta bread to go with it, but nothing to eat it with. The rest of the meal was ok but left a bad taste in our mouths re: feeling ripped off with some of the starters - of which we had several. Very sad if this is the general rule now. I have raved about Carn Brea for many years. Unsure now if we will return.

The only saving grace is the location. Second was ok but the food was really lacklustre. Really bland and uninspiring

Carn Brea Castle, 14th century, UK Carn Brea Castle on Carn Brea is a 14th-century grade II listed granite stone building, which was extensively remodeled in the 18th century as a hunting lodge in the style of a castle for the Basset family. The building is in private use as a restaurant. It is next to the site of the oldest neolithic settlement discovered so far in Cornwall. The castle was originally built as a chapel, in 1379, thought to be dedicated to St Michael. It has an irregular layout with four rectangular turrets around a core of the same height and an embattled parapet. The building is built into a large stone outcrop with a steep drop on the rear on the huge uncut granite boulders that make up part of its foundations, giving the impression of the building melting into the land. It 18.3 by 3.0 m in size. In 1835 the castle started being used as a beacon for ships. Its stunning position means that it is visible from miles around and for much of the coast between St Ives and St. Agnes. The building was classed by English Heritage as Grade II listed in 1975.

A stunning location - a real castle! No electricity so it’s eccentric and charming. The food is amazing: by far the best steak I’ve had eating out. We went for our anniversary and went back for my 50th birthday. Delighted both times. You have to pay cash as no electricity or internet for cards (plus phone reception is patchy) but worth it. A must visit restaurant. If you get a chance, check out the view from the roof too.

Middle Eastern food in an 18th century setting. Carne brea castle is a magical setting for great food, the steak was fantastic and the service great. We will definitely be visiting again next time we are home. Only takes cash- not a bad thing.

A remarkable experience. Unique location with spectacular views of the Cornish coast, and inland to the tin mines. Not to be approached in low slung vehicles! Unique.

Nothing but positive feedback. Firstly having dinner in a castle is an incredible experience, alongside the food being some of the best I’ve ever had. The service was also very good and overall a lovely experience. If you are in the area it is a must!

Lovely Middle Eastern cuisine, reasonable price, very atmospheric. Wear a jumper if dining in the evening (it's an ancient castle), and a CASH ONLY service. Highly recommend booking, as it looked busy with limited number of tables. Take your time driving up as very deep potholes. Overall, impressed and would visit again.

This place was meant to be where we had our anniversary meal however we couldn't get to it. We tried a route which wasn't very well signposted and had to turn back as it was a private road full of large potholes and bumps. The car is too low profile and the road was impossible for us to navigate - we'd have got stuck and theres also no phonw signal or buildings around so would be knackered. We then tried a different route not knowing that the first one was the only way to the castle. The second route was an even narrower road than the first and we beached the car due to thick mud and having to reverse as it became too narrow to continue. On either road, you have to reverse if something else is coming as the roads aren't wide enough for more than 1 car. There's also no street lights so not great for reversing if you don't have decent cameras on your car. The menu for the castle did look amazing and it was meant to be for a special occasion however we had to phone and cancel our reservation a few minutes before it was booked for which is a real shame. It would be good if the potholes could be filled in to make it safer and easier to get to the castle. If they were to be filled in, I'd definitely like to book again.

This is really unusual and special - we felt like we were in another era! Choices are limited but that is part of the appeal and everything is good quality. If you want a special and memorable night out, this is the place! Allow yourselves enough time to really enjoy it.

Wonderful atmospheric place to go, with fantastic food.

We had an amazing night...food was phenomenal. We were a large group of 12 really looked after. All 3 courses were full of flavour. Just a warning to not put anything on the floor because when it's raining outside its pretty wet and drippy on the walls and floors inside ! All added to the authentic feel of the hunting lodge centuries ago! Definitely worth going to!

First time visiting this evening with my wife and two kids. What can I say, wow!! Location and atmosphere are great, food was brilliant and service superb. We will be back!

Only admiring architectural design and beautiful views.

Needs more stars than 5! 16 of us had dinner to celebrate my wife's 70th. Half our guests had no idea where we were taking them so it was a total surprise to arrive at this unique landmark. Everybody was bowled over by the Castle and it's ambience. After a very windy, rainy day it had come sunny and with a breeze so the roof terrace(s) (actually 3 areas so two were out of the wind) was a perfect mingling point to admire views before we ate. The service and food matched the perfection of the venue. From initial planning to the evening, the management were a great help, answering all my questions. As communications (phone etc) are difficult up there, you do have to be patient as they generally respond during the morning. I had read reviews that commented on the narrow road up but went and checked it out first. If needed you could get a minibus up there (although probably not the last 200 yards) but I did concede to give a lift to one guest as he might have resisted taking his big expensive Mercedes up. In conclusion, the venue unique and atmospheric, the food excellent (two of our guests have run Cookery Schools) and the service smooth, discreet, efficient and exceptional. Above all else brilliant value.

Great atmosphere, very different from your big standard restaurant. A must to visit. Not good if you have mobility issues though so wouldn't recommend

Absolutely amazing location amazing food and staff were extremely nice. The steaks were to die for and the chef definitely knew how to make a sauce to accommodate the meal. Would definitely recommend if in the area and would 100% revisit when next in the area. 5 star does not do it enough.

A very unique place to eat. Very rustic and atmospheric.

What an experience it was to have a meal in a castle! Very reasonably priced, lots of drinks to choose from and a dessert menu too. Such a unique experience with the ability to explore the castle and rooftop too. I got the chilli chicken with naan - I will say it looked and tasted like the naan was shop bought rather than made fresh on site but I appreciate space may be limited in a castle kitchen, and I could be wrong! Didn't detract from the meal which was very tasty and flavourful. Partner got the sirloin steak which came with carrots, potatoes, garlic mushrooms and green beans - all very tasty and great portion sizes for us both. Finished off with the cheesecake and Baklava, both of which were lovely. At any point you're able to go up to the roof via some quite narrow stairs for some beautiful views over the countryside. Was cloudy when we went but I could imagine you'll get some amazing sunset views in the evening! Overall 5* would definitely recommend for a romantic evening or family meal 🤩🤩🤩.

We visited at the end of June 2023 is was wonderful. Lovely place, full of history with great middle eastern food and great service. Its atmoshpere is great with fascinating history and great views of the surrouding area. Well worth booking in advance even if you're visiting Cornwell. We would thoroughly recommend it and will return. Thank you.

The worst place on earth. Went in to buy a bottle of water the staff refused then asked for glass of water got the answer as its only for people at restaurant then asked if i can have a table and order water Got back as its with food Being in this era and refused for water . The place and staff are beyond morals Horrible place to be

Had a lovely meal here whilst on holiday. The drive up is a bit of a trial but once get to the top it's more than worth it! Our food was top notch, the service was perfect & luckily we were able to go on the roof to take in the amazing views. The highlight of our Cornwall trip!

We ate here for my husband's birthday. We wanted to go somewhere a bit different and unique. We struck gold! This place was amazing. The castle itself is fascinating and well worth a walk around and trip to the roof top to take in the views. The food is varied and interesting. Full of really mouthwatering flavours. The staff are friendly and attentive. We had a wonderful time. Just a quick note, the drive way up to the castle is very narrow and very bumpy. So be prepared! Book a table here in you're in the Redruth area, you won't be disappointed

Words can not describe how amazing this gem is! Notably the BEST restaurant myself and my fiancé have eaten in. The building itself is incredible inside and out, the food came quickly and served by a lovely waitress, the best steak we have ever tasted & luckily we could go onto the roof which topped it off for us! Luckily we were In a small hire car which could get through the tight lane to get to the castle, if we were in our own 4X4 it may of been a struggle but it’s honestly worth it! Great value for money 100% recommend.

Booked a table for 2 here a week in advance, having never been before , the road to the castle is rough but easy enough if your used to the cornish back roads , venue is very special and the atmosphere is very unique , food was great and service was very fast, you can also have access to the roof which gives you some amazing views , enjoyed it alot and would definitely visit again , they also did well with a gluten and dairy allergn control, venue is cash only also which they do tell you when booking 😊

Not many restaurants in the country like this one! We arrived in the dark (over the pot hole ridden drive, really not suitable for low slung cars), to the most atmospheric restaurant. We went up onto the roof of the castle before we ate, the lights of the town below just a novel experience. Eating by candle light, walls water dripping down, I only wish we had dressed up in some medieval dress. We all just loved it, food was good, to excellent. Service was very good, friendly and quick. Will certainly visit again.

This is such a cool place to go, we loved the vibe of the castle and the views were incredible. But the food was really just terrible, no skill had gone into making anything, bland and poor quality. And for a fairly cheap restaurant compared to lots of others in Cornwall this was so overpriced for the standard of food served. Such a shame as we loved the atmosphere and location!

What a beautiful place to have a meal. Both inside and outside of the building were stunning and from the roof we were able to experience far reaching views over Cornwall. We absolutely loved our evening at the castle, the road to the castle is very narrow but we love that it is still so original and quirky with a fabulous view from the roof, there was a good choice on the menu and the food was very good, we will definitely visit again

What a wonderful place. I was seriously surprised when they told us that there was a table available for the very next day. Arriving up a very narrow track to a small car park. We rang the bell at the entrance door and was greeted by a waitress. We were lead to our table and given our menus. The food was quick to arrive, very well presented and tasted beautiful. While we were waiting for our starters, we were informed that the roof area was open and if we wished, we could take in the spectacular views of Redruth and the surrounding old tin mines. What a fabulous place. Great food, beautiful atmosphere and wonderful waitresses. Thank you for a lovely evening 🥰

Lived in the shadow of Carn Brea all my life and visited the castle restaurant twice now. Absolutely lovely. Food was excellent and service was wonderful too. Authentic Jordanian food, yummy and fabulous settings <3 .Well worth a visit for locals and visitors alike.

What a unique experience! The road to access the castle was extremely bumpy due to pot holes so glad we got a taxi as opposed to driving ourselves. We were also fortunate to be squeezed in as my other half had booked the wrong date 🙄 Beautiful setting, excellent food and fantastic service, a fabulous meal and memorable dining experience. They only accept payment by cash, cheque, PayPal or bank transfer.

Okay firstly let me start by saying the building itself is stunning and the views are beautiful! … However the staff are extremely unfriendly, we ordered a few starters and when we asked for some plates the blonde waitress rolled her eyes, I’m sorry that’s your job, She also placed them at the end of the table and didn’t place them in front of people. The food was really bland, one of the other reviews stated Tesco pitta bread and that’s exactly how it was. The travel up there was awful, I suggest walking it or if you have a small car it should be okay. Although beware there are a lot of bumps. We got married earlier that day and thought this place sounded amazing to have a quiet dinner with close family but it was extremely disappointing, the other reviews raised my expectations.

Here is really beautiful place to have a meal, its a very old castle perched ontop of the hill overlooking Redruth and beyond towards the coastline. The food is really good here and authentic too. There are lots of choices for Starters and Main Dishes and good Arabic coffee to finish off. Staff were also very polite and friendly. Great for some photo shots as well. 10/10

This must rate as one of the quirkiest restaurants you can eat in being built directly on the curved boulders. The view is fantastic, very windy most days. There is an outdoor patio at the front of the castle. Only 4 stars because of the limited menu. Check out the boulders outside

Beautiful setting in a castle and the hospitality was 100% we went for the set menu expecting authentic food but not knowing it was planned on a plain taste with soup, chicken beans and potatoes and cheesecake. Food tasted OK but a little disappointed as we booked the wrong menu wanting more middle Eastern cuisine. The setting is absolutely breathtaking.

Went here for a Valentine meal. The food and the atmosphere was stunning. It honestly was the BEST rump steak I've EVER had. It was reasonably priced and the staff were lovely. Knowledgeable of the menu too, not just there to serve. A truly amazing experience. I can't recommend it highly enough. 10/10

Lovely, one of a kind, restaurant. Great food in a warm and inviting tiny castle! Even in the rain it was great going up to the roof and having a look at the wonderful view. Will definitely be back!
