Carluccios - Cambridge in Cambridge

Food was tasty, though there was not a huge range of main dishes and portions were on the small side. The service was good initially then non-existent. It appeared that staff were inexperienced and mostly unsupervised. To elaborate.... Though we'd made a reservation, no-one checked it. Three different waiters tried to take our drinks and food orders, each unaware of what the others had done. The main dishes arrived quickly, after which we were abandoned We waited 45 mins after finishing the mains to order and receive desserts. No cutlery was provided and the staff were all but invisible. By the time the spoons had been brought, the ice cream accompanying the dessert had mostly melted.

This is my second visit, the first was friendly, service was quick and food delicious but this time unfortunately the experience was not the same. I had chicken in breadcrumbs which was very dry and the breadcrumbs were burned. My husband's pizza was missing half the topping and disappointing. Our last visit was so different so I hope it was a just an off day for them.

Real respect and thanks to the lovely lady manager who went above and beyond to help my mum and her allergies . She exacted a really high standard of customer care and I appreciated it . The food was really nice and the chocolate brownie transported me straight to heaven !

My 2nd time visiting Carluccios and it was was brilliant! Nothing to fault. Staff were lovely and the food was great. Came super quick and was very tasty.

Has unfortunately gone downhill. It once boasted very nice food with a great atmosphere. When myself and friends visited for dinner the place was deserted. The food was ok but not great. One waitress went outside for a cigarette and was visible to us through the window. When she came back in she resumed working and did not wash her hands. Shame as it was once a great little treat for dinner.

We had a rare family day out in Cambridge, chose this restaurant as we have been to carluccios in central London and loved it. Biggest mistake ever !! Ruined our day really , should have got a burger from a market stall. It’s a sad indictment of our country that service , value for money , and a great customer experience seems to have been lost along the way. The sad thing is nobody in that restaurant gave a toss whether we had a great time or not as long as we pay the bill and ridiculous service charge!! Thought about telling them to poke the service charge , but I was thoroughly fed up and just wanted to get out of there. Never go there again. Went in weatherspoons after felt better for it.

Disappointed by service which felt unduly slow. Perhaps a staff member had called in sick. Food was not particularly flavoursome. Won't be using this restaurant again.

Me and my friend came in Sunday the 31st of July for a quick bite to eat for breakfast. We both had the traditional, food was lovely and probably the best breakfast I have had anywhere around Cambridge. When paying our waitress Leah pointed out at the bottom of the receipt that there was a 50% off on our next return within 4 weeks. We then later on in the afternoon after a day out in Cambridge, decided to return for a late lunch.. Was just as great as our previous breakfast! Lovely atmosphere and a great spot in Cambridge with outdoor seating available. Would highly recommend.

Excellent food and service. Staff were very attentive, and the manager was extremely kind. I have been here a few times over the years and am never disappointed.

Poor service Toilets poorly maintained- one had toilet roll everywhere and one had no taps to even wash your hands. When I complained about the toilets nothing was done. My sisters meal had a layer of skin on top of the sauce which when the waitress asked if there was a problem with our food I said yes my sister’ food is clearly microwaved food and she was adamant that this is how the sauce comes. Overall poor service Poor food and very overpriced! Do not visit. These restaurants should not be serving food anymore.

Antonio Carluccio would be mortified. 'Authentic Italian food'? No. I love seafood but cannot tolerate chilli - every seafood dish on the menu included chilli. When I pointed this out to the waitress, she said they could do 'a plain tomato sauce' ('plain'? what - no garlic, basil, authentic Italian ingredients?) but it wouldn't be 'as much fun' - fun! I had just explained the pain that chilli causes me!! Chilli is not used much in authentic Italian food ..... and as for burgers!!! The chicken dish we had was bland and flavourless, with overcooked potatoes, so the over use of chilli is obviously because the chefs don't know how to cook and just chuck heat in. Service slow; we waited a very long time for desserts (nice enough when they eventually came). Having lunch at Carluccio's before a matinee at the theatre used to be at treat, but no more. I doubt that we will be back.

The location of the restaurant is a bit odd and the atmosphere was lacking. Probably didn’t help that we were seated next to the toilet! Could have put up with that but the food was absolutely awful. We waited around 30 mins plus for our main course. We both had steak. Both were tough as old boots even though my husband asked for medium rare and I asked for medium. the food was lukewarm but the potatoes were burnt and tasted acrid. They were so overcooked that some were just squadgy burnt skins. After a couple of mouthfuls we stopped and got a refund. Only to find that the steak sauces had not been refunded nor the service charge!! Also the glass that o was given for my drink was hot from the dishwasher and was wet. In the end we went to Marks and Spencer’s and bought a sandwich which was much better!

We had booked a table and were quickly shown to one near the window. The beers and wine were served promptly and the waitress took our order. The food arrived quite quickly, the potatoes could have been hotter, but the duck and the spaghetti were delicious. We then ordered two drinks with small desserts and an Affogato. The coffee and tea arrived quickly ...... but no sign of the accompanying desserts. After 10 minutes we asked the passing waiter if he could locate them. he then plonked down the small desserts and my husbands ice cream which by this time had started to melt. When our original waitress appeared we mentioned this and she immediately rolled her eyes, commenting 'who gave you that?' whisked it away and returned with fresh ice cream and the expresso. When the bill came it had an automatic service charge added, which my husband asked to be removed as dessert service had not been good and the waitress did smell of smoke which he found unpleasant. I think it was the manageress who was quite shirty, took off the original service charge, but didn't ant us to add our own tip to the bill. I have eaten here several times before and always had good service but this was a disappointment. Kerry was the waitress who sorted everything out.

One of the worst dining experiences in 40 years of dining out The bruschetta arrived reasonably promptly but was simply barely chopped tomato thrown on top of dry bread. No attention paid to presentation at all Then waited 40 minutes for main courses which arrived incomplete, burnt and barely warm. Spoke to waitress who, admittedly was rushed off her feet, but clearly was unable to convey our frustration. I even wrote to the Head Office and the restaurant itself but did not even have the courtesy of a reply from either Why am i not surprised?

Decent value with Tastecard, I really enjoyed my duck, my daughter had carbonara and we shared the mozzarella garlic bread! Absolutely fantastic food. The restaurant is a bit dull and doesn’t have the best view out.

We went into Carluccio’s for lunch. On sitting down at the table we noticed it had not been cleaned and one of the glasses on the table to be dirty and have lipstick on from a previous customer. This was flagged and changed. We ordered 3 main meals, Ragu, lasagne and a kids meal. We placed the order at 13.20. We started to notice other tables who arrived and ordered after us getting food so we flagged this to the staff. We was told it was def coming. 13.55 still no sign of any food so we paid for our drinks and left. Terrible service and can only assume our order was not put through. All in all a very poor experience.

We have been here to get 2 coffees to go. The waiting time for the service was 20 min after being charged. The cashier kept telling us that someone will come to prepare the coffee, however other customers came in waiting to be seated,and one of the waiters said we have no enough staff. That’s not an excuse to charge ppl, and then make them wait 20 min for someone to prepare 2 coffees. Never again.

Our visit started with the waiter telling us all the things that weren’t available. This was followed by such lacklustre service I actually had to get up and find the waiter twice. We were attending a concert so had limited time and explained this to the waiter, but still the food took 45 minutes to arrive, and when it did the pasta was lukewarm and spaghetti not even separated. No excuse since the place was almost empty and deserves to be. We will not be coming back but I suspect they will close soon anyway. Be warned!

Dinner for 4 booked as we expected the restaurant would be busy as there was an event nearby. Many items on the menu were off- no risotto, no lasagne, no spinach balls- part of their signature dish- no broccoli. Service slow, only 2-3 other tables occupied. When food arrived it was ok but we needed to eat quickly it had taken a while to arrive.

Enjoyed excellent food and drink but service, despite the restaurant looking reasonably quiet, was very slow.

In questo ristorante a pranzo. Buon ristorante con tanta buona volontà di proporre piatti italiani.Nel mio caso 2 su 2 sbagliati e fatti con ingredienti di sufficiente qualità. Peccato veramente. La pasta non cotta bene , i latticini non buoni ed altro. Comunque un plauso va fatto ai titolari che davanti all’evidenza dei fatti prontamente reclamati ed evidenziati hanno praticato uno sconto del 50/% su tutti i piatti ordinati, ma in tutta sincerità avrei voluto veramente mangiare qualcosa di italiano e di buono.

Ordered at 6.30 sharp, to give us time to eat and chat before going to the theatre right opposite. At 7.18 food finally arrived after we'd asked the waiter about it three times (and even then, we had to cancel part of the order to speed things up, and my friend's food was cold!). We had five minutes to eat it! The waiter was polite and apologetic: we got the impression it was an issue in the kitchen. I hadn't been to Carluccio's in years: I won't be rushing back.

Lunch for 2 when only 10 covers in restaurant. Should have been easy. Ordered 2 glasses of wine and jug of tap water: 3 mistakes were made including the type of wine and size of glass. Ordered 2 salads, one of which was the GLUTEN FREE chicken ceasar salad: that means not wheat bread but gluten free bread which was on the special GF menu!!! Dish arrived with clearly wheat croutons. Waitress was oblivious to the potential fatal risk with the dish as served. Replacement dish arrived without gluten free bread: it was "out of stock"! We've eaten here a lot and have encountered some minor issues during busy service periods that could be forgiven, but this was outrageously complacent and dangerous service. Never again ... The manager didn't even appreciate the significance of what his staff had done.

Pasta was just unevenly Al dente and a little bit cold. Still very tasty and was a good meal. Staff were reasonably friendly and service was quick. This place is a safe bet if you’re looking for a nice somewhat fancy Italian.

Very poor and overpriced Kids portions are ok for 18 months or younger. If they are older they will be very hungry. Food all microwaved and very poor All overpriced for what it is Generally a very bad experience and would never go back. AVOID

Came in today on my birthday for a coffee and some lighter food (would of ordered lunch) because I said light bites got told they were to busy and had loads of bookings and said unless we were ordering lunch we weren’t allowed in. The evening started well , good service with a friendly waitress bringing menus , drinks and starters promptly. It started to unravel after the main course, by which time we were the only customers and our original waitress appeared to have gone home. They brought the dessert menu but not the set menu, which one of our party required, having opted for the mains/ dessert option, and then left us for quite a while. When they came to take our order, they had to be reminded to bring the set menu which took up a few more minutes. We ordered coffee and desserts. The coffee came but no desserts. After a long wait we went and found a waiter and asked for the desserts, which he then brought. Considering we’d ordered dolcetti ( just needed arranging in a plate ) and ice cream the delay was inexplicable. By the time it arrived the ice cream was melting so had clearly been plated up then forgotten. While we were still eating it became clear that they were waiting for us to go home, as they turned the lights up, which would have been less annoying if there hadn’t been such a delay waiting for dessert. They’d accepted a booking for 8.00 and it was only 10.00 when we left. If it’s that important to get the doors shut by 10.00 then maybe either don’t take bookings after 7.30 or ensure that the service is better.

Good service, very good food and reasonably priced. It was our 1st trip to Carluccios and was not sure what to expect. We were not disappointed at all! The lamb shank accompanied by the side order of broccoli was fantastic. My wife had the pollo al funghi and she described this as a lovely Italian Sunday Roast. Will we be going back to a Carluccios - definately.

When we arrived we told our waiter that we had an hour before we had to leave and he said that was fine for a starter and main course. There were only two waiters handling the whole restaurant. Drinks took twenty minutes to arrive but the main course didn't arrive until 5 minutes before we were due to leave. So it was a hurried and disappointing experience.

Sadly this was second poor experience at this restaurant. Table booked for 6:30pm pre event at the Corn Exchange. Only one waiter visible on arrival. We were eventually seated but told ‘I hope you’re not in a hurry to eat’. We explained that we were and therefore would make sure that we were ready to order in 2 minutes and would order something simple ....to which the response was ‘probably a glass of water will be quickest’The food was good but sadly the ridiculously slow service on both occasions mean I shall avoid eating here again.

Lovely late lunch for my son's birthday. Service was very good, food was delicious. Bottle of sparkling rose given as a birthday "treat". They were very busy, but our waiter Rafal looked after us. Would definitely have another meal here.

We had booked for 6pm as we were attending a show at the Cornexchange next door at 8pm. After 15 minutes we had to actively seek someone to take our order. Our cold starter came relatively promptly. And then we waited and waited. By 7.15 we were getting really angry and said if the food didn't arrive soon we would be leaving. The front of house "manager" explained that everyone had arrived at the same time. I was aghast that they didn't limit how many reservations they took at any particular time slot - "n"o she said - if 50 people book for 6pm we accept them all. Our main courses arrived in the end at 7.35 - not far off an hour after we had finished our starter course - we couldn't finish the main courses in the 10 minutes available to us and there was no offer of a discount or even a free glass of wine. We have eaten here many times but this may well be the last. There are so many alternatives in the centre of Cambridge.

Visited this branch last night (party of 3) for a meal before a theatre show. The restaurant was busy but we were grudgingly seated. After 20 minutes we left as we not one member of staff acknowledged us: we weren’t offered drinks, no-one explained there may be a long wait, which we would have been totally understanding about, we just didn’t exist! We took our money to a local independent eaterie instead.

Almuerzo a las 2. 00 pm (ish) después de una mañana de compras. Por lo general, vamos para el Spaghetti Carbonara, siempre una buena comida, cerveza y una copa de vino, a pesar de que el servicio es lento. ¿Es porque la mayoría del personal son hombres jóvenes (soy un hombre, por cierto). ¡Ambulan como si no hubiera un mañana! Obtiene un menú cuando está sentado, la comida se entrega a la mesa de al lado y el servidor se marcha con las manos vacías. ¿Por qué no preguntarnos si queremos tomar algo?

A so so eating experience. We had the set menu, the service was polite and the restaurant is spacious and popular,I had the pate for starter - the grilled ciabatta was a too greasy for my liking. The pate and chutney tasted nice; as is the norm now there is always too much pate!!I also had the Chicken Milanese for my main. It was bland and could have done with a sauce. The waiter tried an ‘up sell’ of additional potatoes but I’m glad we said no and it was a huge portion.Maybe I just a chose the wrong things. Portion sizes were good and there was a nice atmosphere.Expensive drinks.

We visited the restaurant on the 7th December 2019. Food was ok, service was ok but we did have an issue with the server not bringing our change back to the table once I had paid. She "assumed" that it was her tip! I emailed the restaurant twice through their contact info on the website.No response to either message.Disappointing. I'm happy to provide more detail if required...Won't return to any Carluccios restaurant .
