Carioca in Portsmouth

I visited this bar on a sunday afternoon, and there was a lively party celebrating a new baby, family, friends, presents, laughter, a guitarist and singer. I was lucky to get a seat, and enjoyed a plate of traditional home cooked brazilian food - feijoada with a beer. Very friendly people, and having lived in Portugal, it felt i was far from the cold grey UK. A little gem, off the beaten track, but you will easily find it opposite the famous Portsmouth City Mural.

A small but prfectly formed restaurant tucked away a short distance from Southsea Seafront. The welcome is warm, and the decor is very 'Carioca' Rio. This restaurant is just like the authentic small restaurants in local neighbourhoods of Rio de Janeiro. The food is traditional Brazillian, freshly cooked, and every morsel was delicious. The staff are very good with allergies and advise what is in the foods, which is reassuringly excellent. The live music was also very Brazillian and delightful. This restaurant is like having a little bit of the real Brazil come to Portsmouth and I wholeheartedly recommend it.
