I usually don't leave reviews, but here I am making an exception. I dropped by Cardamom for dinner, encouraged by the place's good reviews online. Starting from the service, I enquired about the portion sizes (for the main or side dish that were mentioned in the menu/leaflet) and some recommendations. I didn't get any useful information besides "it's your choice" and showing the approximate bowl sizes with the waiter's hands. Then, I ordered a soft drink without ice (the waiter gave me the choice, and I specifically asked for "without") - got the correct drink... with ice. After my polite intervention, the waiter strained my drink, leaving the ice cubes out... Food-wise - very disappointing saag paneer. Honestly, probably the worst I've ever eaten (and I've tried a lot!). The cheese was definitely not fresh, of low quality, way below average. The sauce - more white than green - I could barely taste spinach. The main taste was cream, making it super heavy. Spice-wise, not bland, but very average. At least it was properly warm. Basmati rice - okay, no complaints here. At the end of the experience, I asked for the bill. I got one... hand-written! To have some sort of payment confirmation, I paid by card, even though I wanted to pay in cash. Atmosphere - average, no decorations. If there was music, it was quiet and not disturbing. Toilets are quite poor but clean, with soap and toilet paper. Unfortunately, there are no paper towels. Overall, it was a huge disappointment. Knowing many Indian restaurants in Germany, I would definitely avoid this place. It was the first Indian restaurant in the UK I've visited, so it's hard for me to comment on the prices, but for saag paneer (as a main dish at the end) with basmati rice and a small soda, I paid £17.70. IMO, too much for such an experience. I am sorry for the negative comments, but I don't believe this place deserves such a high review.

We have been to Brighton on a family holiday and dined in for Lunch and Dinner at the same place. The food was very good and it was like home cooked food. We loved the food. We tried Chicken pakora, Chicken sheek kebab, Paneer gravy item, Rice and Daal and Veg biriyani. The food was very good with a good blend of spices. There was a special request to chef to make it non-spicy for our son as he can not eat spicy food, the dal was made absolutely perfect and my son ate it with ease. Thank you very much for that. We liked the lunch so much, we went for dinner as well. Must go place for us whenever we will go to Brighton next time.

We usually get a takeaway from Cardamom but thought we would eat out for a change & we will definitely return Favourite dishes are the Tandoori lamb chops & the coconut peshwari naan 🤤🤤 They don't have an alcohol license but let you bring in your own.. There is a Morrisons & an off license opposite the resturant See you again soon Cardamom 😀

We had the chicken pakora and samosas as starters which were both absolutely lovely. We ordered the chicken tikka masala as a main. Wasn’t what I personally would expect it to taste like, very sweet and coconutty. However this was partially because we didn’t read the menu closely enough. I would go back but wouldn’t order the chicken tikka masala again.

Have been here twice in the past month or so and the food has been fantastic both times! I had a paneer jalfrezi and my girlfriend had the vegetable dopiaza - both amazing dishes and we cannot wait to come back! We wish the restaurant was busier because it definitely deserves to be, lovely staff, lovely food and really reasonable prices too.

Absolutely terrible service — avoid if you value basic respect. The food was just okay, definitely not worth the ridiculous prices they charge. But the real shocker was the manager. In the middle of our meal, he rudely told us we had to hurry up and leave because more customers were coming in. It was beyond unprofessional — we felt like we were being kicked out. Never have I experienced such disrespect at a restaurant. Save your money and go somewhere that actually values its customers.

We order regularly from here as the food is so tasty. Authentic Indian flavours and lovely service. We order more often from here, but went in today. Lovely waiter but it's a shame it's not busier. Head down for great food and help pack it out.

Good food, especially chicken korma. But they charge you for every poppadom and every individual sauce. Never seen this happen before. It's disappointing as it makes the meal expensive.

Pretty average food , pretty slow, poor service with cheeky extras added to your bill , please double check your bill , if you plan on or expect people to pay extra fees please let your customers know beforehand, advertise it this will save any embarrassment or confrontation. I’ve visited a lot of Indian restaurants over the years and eaten food from most big cities in the uk , not sure why the reviews are so high , but like most things these days reviews can be brought ££ I guess. - my response to your comments are . You spent no time at our table I had to ask three times for a glass to two different people and in the end I went over to ask in person . You spent 99% of your time at the bar by the curtains next to the kitchen. There is no law in the uk saying we the customer must pay a service or extra fees to a restaurant . This is an option that the customer must be made aware of and they choose what percentage to tip you didn’t make or advertise this at all , you added an extra fee onto our had written bill. This was not clear which has caused the frustration. I was polite and spoke to you in friendly manner.

I had a takeaway delivered to Peacehaven. And it is by far the best Indian available. Tasted phenomenal and it wasn’t really greasy when eating, you can tell it was good quality food. Props to the chef

Great cooking - lovely flavours and top quality ingredients - very friendly, a nice place to visit, and running a very reliable service. Since finding Cardamom for first time last year, we always come here for our Indian meals. There are many closer restaurants for us to collect a takeaway meal, but this is the best place in town.

I ordered a vindaloo, I didn’t get a vindaloo. It’s wasn’t spicy at all. The chips were dry. Everything arrived luke warm. Gutted as I was really looking forward to it.

It's ok although the chicken tikka masala isn't as richly deeply flavoured as some places. Not keen on the plastic containers, prefer foil.

Revised again - Dec 2024 - back up to 5 stars - V V good ...... Revised - this is a Very good curry place for Brighton, most are really average. I love curry and I've had takeaways twice this week from here. It's not going to get more than 4 stars though - it can't cos they use frozen veg. Carrots in particular, why? They are so cheap fresh and frozen ones are crap. If (owners of the restaurant) you are reading this, please use fresh veg. --------- Really good take away! Loved it. Curries are usually rather oily, that's fine. This was more oily than usual and we spooned lots off. It was still delicious, but less oil would have got it 5 stars - which would be very rare from me.

Cardamom were very accommodating and attentive to a large group. Food was nice and couldn't fault the service, was busy even on a Wednesday evening. Would come here again for sure.

I’m so satisfied with their service. Hydrabadi chicken biriyani was too good and the quantity was more from other restaurants. It came with a dahi sauce. I’ve ordered veg curry as well it was just delicious. Everytime I order I become satisfied with their quantity and quality 👌👌

This place isn't even Indian. It's a Bangladeshi joint disguised as Indian. So bear in mind the differences in taste.

Went to this place for a takeaway during my stay in Brighton this past May (2024). The staff were a bit cold and distant. The food was also very oily and bland. I had asked for basmati rice, which is typically made white in color, but was much darker (almost the color of a pulao). Wouldn't go out of my way to eat here if I'm ever back in Brighton. It's not even Indian food. More like Bangladeshi.

I have had some greasy food delivered in my time but the peanut aubergine dish was literally swimming in cooking oil / ghee. It took 6 sheets of kitchen roll to soak up and make it remotely edible. Uuuggghhh! Never again from this establishment.

Indian food is a delicacy!! so as I sighted my eyes on this gem, I felt immediately hungry and I had a lamb biryani with some masala chips and it was magnificent!!

We family of 2 kids and 2 adults had bad experience here as after knowing that we are not ordering any liquors they will not entertain you at all; they did not serve water since we said we don’t need any drinks. But later they did after asking twice-thrice. Very unprofessional behaviour of owner/waiter and very very rude. They have “Indian” name but they discriminate Indians. Beware before ordering as they charge extra in the bill and when you question on why it’s been charged more they will fight with you. Food is ok and not great, since we were tired so we had no other options to get Indian food near to beach.we ordered Kadahi panneer and matar panner with butter naan and jira rice. Both curry’s had less salt and matar panner was horrible.

It was my friends birthday we booked to enjoy a meal their were four of us sadly due to my poor health I was unable to enjoy my food at the restraraunt but they kindly put it in take out boxes for me to take home wonderful small quiet relaxed space kind attention but not invasive staff food came hot cooked and we had no complaints they gave my friend a special birthday dessert which we all tried I don’t know what it was but it Ben that was yummy ! Highly recommend will definitely becoming again thank you for a lovely evening
