Cardamom in South Somerset

A lovely meal, nothing I could complain about.

This is hands down the best Indian restaurant for miles around, the service is excellent and the food divine, my favourite dish is the chilli masala, I have only managed once to eat every chilli, I counted them, 22!!! The menu has a great choice, please never change the recipe or the chef.

Only word is required for this restaurant but this site insists that I must add at lest 100 characters, so here it is ,,, "Superb"

Really like this restaurant and the food is good. I have two criticisms… 1) the onions for the poppadoms are kept in a big bucket in the restaurant. Recently they have started to get worse and worse. Soggy and off and fishy tasting. Also the chutneys are refilled and the trays not washed in between customers, you can watch them doing this!! This has put us off returning. 2) The chicken is sometimes “on the turn” you know when chicken is about to go off as it tastes very chickeney! Lovely rice naan and curries. We might give them another try at some point. I hope those issues get resolved.

Always great service and even better food

Our favourite restaurant. We usually go on husband's birthday meal on New year's day, but had a belated birthday meal last night (Sat 6th Jan). Foods lovely all round, friendly and helpful staff.

First visit, followed trip advisor reviews and wasn't disappointed. Excellent food & service. Will definitely visit again Not a lisenced restaurant but you are able to take your own alcohol and pay corkage (£1 per person)

We decided to try our luck by asking if they allow pets (we expected to be told no) they said yes so we walked round to the shop to get a couple of beers (its byob) then back.. sat us down only to tell us pets aren’t actually allowed, Timewasters, no wonder it was empty..

I'm not sure if the corkage charge is per table or per person If it's per person, then charging £1 to provide a small jug of warm tap water is odd, when your parting with close on £60 for food for 2 people

Have used for many years but this time the food was poor. Over cooked, dry, greasy and frankly most went straight in the bin. Ruined our evening with friends. The Asian food bought from the local supermarket was better.

They were very accommodating of allergies and even provided an allergen list. They then made a completely different meal without the allergens which was very lovely of them. The staff were very friendly. It is a non-alcoholic place but you can BYOB. It wasn't very busy but it was pleasant.

Total gem of a restaurant!! Tasty, fresh, colourful dishes at very reasonable prices. Goan chicken curry worthy of being a chefs special.. Chicken saag so tender it melted in the mouth. Onion bhajis the lightest I have ever bitten into. Attentive smartly dressed, friendly waiters. Airy, light contemporary decor inside. Please don't be deceived by the rather tired outside appearance.... go in you will not be dissapointed! Thank you guys.

Recently moved to Langport and found this little gem of an Indian. Quite possibly the best we've had in a long, long time.. We had already tried a take away which was excellent, so treated ourselves to an eat in. Food superb.. Service excellent....and even though we were eating early (6pm) there were others dining. The background music was not too loud, which meant we were able to talk, and totally in keeping with the restaurant. We will return 😊

One of the finest currys I have ever eaten. Had the Chicken Rezala, it was superb. Felt a little pricey perhaps, until I saw the portion size. Easily enough for dinner and lunch the next day.

Went in for dinner on the 15/03/23. Lovely curry friendly staff and take your own booze. Great experience fully recommended.

Have had food from here before and it was delicious and piping hot, but our takeaway last night was a complete let down, cold, tikka masala sauce so sweet it was basically inedible, hard chewy chicken in the curries. Was not good at all.

Lovely food, bring your own alcohol.

Had a takeaway whilst staying locally with my daughter. It was very busy almost to the point of chaos while we waited for our food but that is probably a good sign. Food was top notch and I'd deffo recommend.

Over £120 of wasted money. What was supposed to be a lovely birthday meal out but due to the food we received and attitude of the owner let it down. We ordered 5 meals one of which was edible the others tasted so sweet that we thought we were eating bags of sugar. Mentioned to the waiter and he said we could order 1 item to replace it with something else so we ordered the same meal that was edible out of 5. At the end we approached the lady at the front desk and explained and she was more than happy to not charge us for the meals that we couldn’t eat but then her dad (the boss and chef) came out shouting and putting his face right up to ours saying he will not refund us as he’s never had this complaint before but yet looking on the reviews there are quite a few of them! After a lot of arguing and shouting he agreed to replace our inedible meals for takeaways because of course no refunds! The only star I’d give this place is for the young girl on reception who was very apologetic and friendly towards us, perhaps her dad needs to learn something from her especially that it is not acceptable to speak to people in the manor that he did.

Ordered a midweek takeaway as staying in a cottage locally. You can park for free in a little car park just past the restaurant on the left (if coming past Tesco). Restaurant looked clean and tidy, staff polite and socialable. We had a couple of starters, 4 different curries , naan and 2 rice. Plenty of food for 4. All meals were nicely cooked plenty of meat and vegetables, tasty sauce too. Recommend a visit if you staying locally. You can sit in too if you wish but it's bring your own alcohol as they lack a licence to serve it.

Another bland South Somerset Indian, too much sugar, not enough spice or chilli. Disappointing , particularly a watery Bhuna.

Our regular local restaurant. We love their foods and we know some of the staff. We sometimes go there 2/3 a year, to eat in, for birthdays and Anniversary meal. But other times we have takeaways.

Wouldn't let me keep my poppadoms on the table to eat with my main. Absolutely disgusted by the attitude of the server. Soured an otherwise good dining experience. We've had takeaway from Cardamom on many occasions (generally quite expensive but worth it; although we've had bits forgotten in the past) and I would recommend them for that but I will continue avoiding eating in.

Haven't been for a sit down dinner here in ages and so glad we did. The service was, as always excellent, as is the food. We were told about the bring your own alcohol so were happy to take along beer and wine. A lovely evening which we are hoping to repeat on a regular basis

I've reviewed this restaurant before,nothings changed!! Still as good as ever!! The only thing that has changed is that they no longer serve alcohol,BUT you are free to take your own and at the moment they do not charge corkage!

Bought a takeaway from Cardamom tonight for my wife and myself, really fancied a curry tonight but was a wee bit concerned at a review saying it was pretty tasteless.I am pleased to say it was quite the opposite. The lamb in the Lamb Bhuna was possibly the best I've had, tender and well cooked with a delicious sauce, the Chicken Jalfrezi was just as good with plenty of well cooked meat and another delicious sauce. Will certainly use again when next in the area.

Hadn't been here in a several years, and HOOO BOY--- if you live in the area, please please do pay Cardamom a visit. Just stunning food-- truly delicious, freshly prepared curries, excellent naans, extremely reasonable prices, and really lovely service: the staff are friendly, professional, and know the menu back to front. Our waiter Amin was charming and provided excellent service. Now that we know just how brilliant Cardamom has become we will be back all the time! :-) For those wondering, as restaurants do tend to vary: I would say that the food here swings slightly mild -- the creamy curries like the korma and the Tikka Massala are very sweet and indulgent, so don't be afraid to try a medium spice dish if you're nervous. We had two of the special chicken dishes (one cooked with ginger, the other with a special pickle) and my husband had the lamb shank, which came with a delicious chickpea sauce. All dishes were superb.

We will be moving to the area soon so we thought we would try Cardamom. We rang up late on a Thursday evening and wanted to book a table for two, it was really short notice but Cardamom were able to fit us in despite being really busy.We ordered starters and shared them and they were delicious, they were brought out quite promptly. The onion bhajis were so yummy and really big! We had the onion bhajis, chicken chat and king prawn butterfly alongside popadoms and chutneys.For mains we had the sunset samoly and chicken bhuna. Both curries were cooked to perfection and really tasty and fresh. The peshwari naans were gorgeous too. What really gives this restaurant 5 stars for us is the staff, they were so lovely, polite and attentive. The night we went the staff were busy and a couple behind us were being incredibly rude to the staff and complaining about waiting - we could see it was busy and it was not a very long wait at all! I would have happily have waited a long time as the food was delicious. Thank you staff at Cardamom for fantastic customer service, we really enjoyed our evening and will definitely be back again soon to try some other dishes. ☺️

We’ve been to the Cardamom a number of times, had takeaways from them as well and the food never disappoints. Staff are great and nothing is too much trouble to make your dining experience perfect every time. But in these uncertain times, even in a sleepy little town like Langport, COVID 19 is a real threat and I am not sure the owners of this establishment have fully realised this. My first concern was that we were at no time asked for our details to comply with the NHS Track and Trace and also didn’t see a QR code to scan into the NHS APP. Secondly tables were not positioned a suitable distance apart, 2m in the restaurant is a stretch but I would have thought they would have at least tried to give 1m+ however we were but 1/2 metre from the next table and this was true of all others tables of customers in the restaurant. We will definitely be going back as the food and service is top quality but not until this pandemic is over or they change their practices.

The best curry around, always good service and delicious curry every time.

Staying in Langport and the information pack left for us recommended here in their eat section. Ordered and collected a takeaway online, very disappointed with the Chicken Saag dish, it was entirely full of oil and the chicken was quite rubbery, probably due to so much oil, such a shame as the flavours were nice. The pasanda dish was good though which saved it for my partner.

Lovely little place, with calm atmosphere. They do have to deal with take away orders at the same time as wait on tables, so as it happened one waiter left our table rudely in the middle of taking the order. That being said, the staff is otherwise attentive and smart. Food is delicious, you get all the flavours as described in menu. Samosas, cheesy mushrooms, rice, lamb, mango curry. All cooked to perfection! We can't wait to go back and try some more.

The food is as good as always.Unfortunately you never seem to get a warm welcome here and never feel valued as a customer.Order was placed online and paid for at time of ordering for later collection - when collecting the order they requested payment AGAIN - this was quickly resolved when they realised that the payment had actually already been received hours earlier but this is completely unacceptable and embarrassing and I did not receive an apology.

The food is always good but very over priced. The worst thing is the service!! Never have i seen such miserable faces!! Always hovering around the table just waiting to get you out so they can get another one in. There one in particular a young indian chap that has a really bad attitude! He is abrupt and unwelcoming probably be better working in a motorway mcdonalds!

My wife and I stopped in for dinner. She was uncertain as it didn't look much from the outside. From the moment we entered we were amazed at how good it was. Service was excellent. We had some pappadums and pickles to start and these were some of the best we have had. My wife had the butter chicken and I had the chicken chilli masala. We spent most of the meal discussing how great the food was. The chilli masala was hot but not hot enough to cause discomfort. This is a hidden gem and we wish we had gone earlier in our stay in Langport as we would have been back. With some rice, peshwari naans and a couple of beers we only paid £42.

There are many mentions on Cardamom's website about their online ordering system, however when I turned up to collect my order almost an hour after ordering online, I was told they had only just received it! They gave the excuse that it was a problem with their ordering system. Although it was far from ideal as I had to wait for them to make the entire order for 10 people, they were very apologetic and gave us a bottle of wine, extra popadums and a couple of free dishes. I have to say, the food was very tasty indeed. I would recommend them, but make sure to order over the phone!

The restaurant is very unassuming from the outside but,once inside it comes alive with a tasteful interior. The food is very good,tasty and hot. Those are the good bits. The service was poor,the first guy front of house waved us through and told us to sit where we like,call me old fashioned but,I like to be shown to a table. After a couple of minutes a young waiter (I use this job title in its loosest form) appeared and took a drinks order followed by a food order. The food was brought to the table and almost dropped one after another unceremoniously onto the table. This guy is in the wrong job or is a family member doing it under protest,he couldn’t be less welcoming or helpful. The food isn’t the best value either but,when you are the only restaurant of your type in town you can charge a bit more. In short Cardomom sort your front of house because food alone will not enhance your reputation.

Take away was lovely. Popadoms were lovely with onion salad, and the lamb buhna was perfect.

You can not fault this place always fantastic service and great food, will definitely back again, ordered Prawn Dansak and Chicken Dansak full of favour, plenty of spice and really tasty.

Was so surprised visiting this restaurant from outside does not look too inviting but inside was lovely. The staff are very friendly and the food was delicious especially the cardamom chicken, will definitely be visiting again!

The staff are about the least friendly and welcoming of any restaurant I've ever been in, prices are amongst the highest I've ever paid, but I keep going back because the food is really good. Try the occasional smile, guys 😊

Lovely food but staff a little feirce

Having heard so much good reviews of the Sunday buffet, my wife and I drove the two hour round trip to Langport, only to be greeted by a sign on the window saying the Sunday buffet ended on the 17th June. 6 days prior to our visit. It was the only reason we went, there are plenty more indian restaurants in Somerset, so if you are planning on going for the all you can eat buffet. Don't bother.

Sunday and no one fancies cooking dinner, so we popped over to Langport to try out Cardamom. Sunday night is buffet night, and buffets can be a bit hit and miss, but this one has its own dedicated menu with plenty of choice. You can choose a starter, or if you are so inclined, you can order more than one....Popaddoms are not included in the buffet and are 80p each. You then choose your main, and again, order as much as you like, its all included in the price. I had the chicken tikka chilli masala, with pilau rice, keema nan and a side of sag aloo. The only observation I would make is the portions are probably smaller than you would normally expect, but personally, I don't think that's a bad thing, as I hate leaving good food just because my eyes are bigger than my appetite. The service is good and attentive. Just make yourself aware of the drinks prices, as although in theory our meals came to £38.85 for the three of us, the bill with drinks was over £70. But with that in mind, we will be back.

We love this place. We have tried so many Indian takeaways and it just so happens this this one is on our doorstep. Great veggie and meat options. Normally over order to try everything. We are big fans of sag paneer side, very tasty with your curry. I always have a spicey dish and occasionally ask for more heat which they normally do no worries. Can get busy so normally around a hour till pick up but well worth the wait

This place does the best buffet. All food is cooked to order and its authentic Indian. Highly recommended for Sunday evening.

Came here for dinner a few weeks ago and both my friend and I are vegan. Asked the staff which items on the menu are suitable for vegans. They had no idea what vegan was so we had to explain to him several times...(luckily there wasn't many other diners in at that point so we didn't have to embarass ourselves sounding like the annoying vegans causing trouble) Eventually went with 'dairy free' as nothing else was computing. We are given a big laminated sheet with all the allergy info. Nothing is dairy free except boiled rice. Great. We ask for a curry to be cooked with coconut cream/milk instead of cream. They don't have any coconut cream...which to me sounds crazy for an Indian restaurant. After a few trips to the kitchen they work out we can have a Veggie Bhuna with some roti so we go for that hoping for the best.Very underwhelmed, not much flavour or spice, lots of potato, onion and tomato not much other vegetables. Not something I'd order again.Satff seemed annoyed and put out that they had to try to find something for us and seemed unwilling to adapt a dish to suit. Be warned if you are vegan or dairy free as this place does not cater for you! I also felt it was expensive for some potato and rice to be honest. Left wishing we'd gone to Spice Gallery in Somerton as we know they are accomodating for dietary changes.

Great service and food although the butter chicken was very sweet. My son loved it! The skillet had more spice and was lovely. Mixed starters good too. Too many plastic straws though :(

Excellent service and first class food, nothing was too much trouble. Would highly recommend and lucky to have such a fantastic local curry house.

Me & my 4 siblings came here for an evening out. The service was impeccable. The food was scrumptious. Loved the modern tableware too. Would most definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone. Can’t wait to come again. Thank you to the team at Cardamom for a most enjoyable evening

Haven't been to the Cardamon for a couple of months but were warmly greeted and happy to see a new menu. All the old favourites plus some interesting new dishes. Service was good and the food delicious. Will be making an effort to visit more frequently.

It was called a buffet but all the food is cooked to order for a set price of £12.99. Food was good especially the chicken balti. Plenty of choice on the menu. Beer and wine available. Very clean and well worth a visit.

Cardomam have launched their Sunday buffet. Not a buffet per se but, but order whatever you like from an extensive menu, everything is cooked freshly to order, all for one set price. Drinks and puds are extra.

Went back again and we were disappointed from the last time we went.
