Caravan in Islington

I come to Caravan at least once a year, I absolutely love the food and cocktails. Portion sizes are perfect and lunch & brunch menus are varied and delicious. The service is 10/10. I know I should try other places in Exmouth Market but we always end up back here. It’s just a great restaurant.

Great restaurant with the friendliest, most accommodating staff! We were a big group table, and Andrea went out of her way to help when I accidentally cancelled the booking. The service, menu, Bloody Mary’s were all amazing! Thanks 🫶

Great food but service was a bit slow. We were glad we got in early. But the menu is interesting and the quality of the dishes is excellent. Good range of vegan and vegetarian choices.

It is the second time I come in the space of a few months, and today I thought to leave a note, as feedback for this place. - food portions are pretty small for the price (for normal eating female- we are not talking a bunch of hungry boys) . Whilst a healthy options are plenty? Portion size for the price is a bit odd given this is a cafe - coming on a Saturday afternoon, with nearly empty place, they did not allow me to stay in a desired seat next to the window to prepare a long table which wasn’t booked for much later in the night. This seems pretty odd to be honest. Move you to a dark spot to prepare the tables not used for hours. - I was then asked to again move from my seat as they wanted to prepare tables. It was 5pm… and unlikely to be diner time. Again the place was empty and no one queuing. Not sure I will be coming back. Staff really need to think about the experience of every single patron in the place. Made feel welcome whether they consume a cocktail, a tea or a big lunch. Very disappointed I am afraid

The service was just not good. At all. One dish missing, one coffee missing… by the time the missing dish arrived the rest of the table had finished the food. Disappointed and quite overpriced for what we had

place is lovely and food and coffee always great service not up to standard this time but I guess I was just unlucky (and it was specific to a specific person either having a bad day or not willing to work there)

I had such a great time there, the food was excellent and the manager on duty a Spanish lady made our experience so special, what a diamond!

Yeah, this place is proper trendy; but it doesn’t lack substance. The brunch menu ideas are really fun and packed with great flavours. I dislike that a service charge was added, but they’re happy to remove when asked.

Food is good, but some dishes are better than others and we noticed uneven seasoning, which makes for a slightly off experience. Service is ok. Maybe it was just our night etc. Atmosphere is a little stale in the evening.

We were able to sit outside on a lovely morning. Great coffee, food and service. I highly recommend you giving this a try.

The atmosphere of the place is nice and typically English The service is average, one of the two waitresses spent more time sitting at the counter on her phone/computer than serving customers. The food is ok but nothing more I think there are much better places around :)

Great food and service from Mel who was a delight

We had dinner here last Saturday after searching for a nice place in the area. We loved everything, the staff was delightful and the food was amazing. We can’t wait to come back!

Came in with my husband for date night and had a really delightful experience. The staff were extremely helpful due to having some dietary requirements and made us feel extremely welcome and in good hands! The staff were exceptional and went above and beyond for us. Had such a lovely meal with lovely atmosphere and will most definitely be returning! Thank you Exmouth Market !!

Everything was great, especially our waitress Ivie, from recommending food to areas to visit around London. My whole party enjoyed their meals.

Food is far too overpriced for the quality of it. Main windows to the restaurant were open all night with people smoking outside and the cigarette smoke wafting in. Lovely when you are trying to eat!

best food ive had in London so far. Soooo good! the meatballs, the fried rice, the chocolate cake, the chicken, the dumplings… !! all of it!! highly recommend!

I thought the service and food were excellent. Inside, the music was a little loud for my personal liking. Outside, the area seems to have an issue with smells from the sewer; not really what I want when I’m eating. The wooden table was perfectly clean, but felt sticky to the touch. On the brighter side, the staff were friendly and super helpful. The food was full of flavour. These are the reasons I’d return.

It is with a heavy heart I write this review. We have loved Caravan Exmouth Market for many years. The atmosphere is fun, although recently not as buzzy as it was because of less customers, the service is always fantastic but the standard of food has really gone down. The cornbread, which is one of their signature dishes was unappetising, although it did not look bad, it was heavily charred from toasting, the flavoured butter seemed tasteless and it did not seem to have been salted. The Seasoned Rice with Salmon, which is a wonderful dish if done well, had lost the combination of exciting flavours and seemed to be missing something, which failed to give us both a lovely taste. My husband came a few weeks ago for lunch and for the first time had to send his Cauliflower dish back as it was inedible. He did not want to come again, because of this but I persuaded him and I am afraid we will not be returning as we did not have a lovely evening, which is something we thought over the years was guaranteed here, We are so sad as all the staff are wonderful.

Ivie is fantastic! Great customer service. Delicious food. All around lovely atmosphere!

I was hoping for something better. "French toast" brioche with peanut butter and sweetened blueberries. Too sweet, and not really French toast. Overpriced for one smallish slice of toasted bread. The poached eggs, whipped yoghurt etc, was tastier. I liked the turmeric milk drink though

Honestly, such an immense disappointment. The coffee was not nice and the 'caramel shot' was non existent as you couldn't even taste it. The latte was in a small tumbler so expensive for what it was. As for the French toast DO NOT BOTHER. You would get more bread if you were a duck. Ridiculous portion size for £14, absolutely ridiculous. Literally one small piece of brioche and thats it. At least the pancakes you get a decent portion of 3 pancakes. Over priced and not worth it at all.

I was highly impressed with extensive information on the allergy menu. It was so easy to check information myself and it also included if plant based meals were fried in the same oil as meat dishes, which a lot of vegetarians and vegans want know. Finally a restaurant that gets it! It was refreshing to see so many healthy options too that were delicious. We were spoilt for choice! I would highly recommend and would visit again.

I visited Farringdon and was so fortunate to find Caravan Exmouth Market, right at the outset of my day. Set in the delightful little area of NE London, you are almost transported back in time to when the area was a well known meat market in the medieval times. I was welcomed by such a friendly and kind hostess, then at my table by such a super waitron, who was helpful, engaging and purposeful, I ordered my coffee and, being a self proclaimed coffee disciple, was absolutely and completely satisfied by a classic flat white! I shall be visiting again, next time to try their scrumptious breakfast!

We went as a large group for brunch after my son’s wedding reception at nearby Bourne & Hollingsworth. Sadly this brunch was disappointing & not up to Caravan’s normal high standards. BUT their response to my later complaints has been fabulous & really has made me want to give some positive feedback. I know I should have raised our issues at the time of the meal but did not want to bring down the mood of the happy wedding party. I did give them feedback a few days later though. Caravan responded straight away & apologised. I really do think their response has been very good and I really appreciate everything they have said and done to put matters right. They definitely will have my custom again!

The brunch at Caravan is always amazing. Everything tastes so good and it's a real pleasure to enjoy it in the vibrant atmosphere that the place always has.

It was OK and no more. Our servers were friendly but I felt some of them were a bit undertrained, e.g. struggled to explain the menu. The food was OK but no more. We were disappointed that we couldn't have the all day menu until 5pm (this was a Sunday). That is not exactly 'all day' is it? Admittedly (and as we discovered in retrospect) this fact is advertised on the website, but it wasn't obvious when I booked. The all day menu had more vegan/vegetarian options than turned out to be offered on the day, which is why we chose this place. One of the few vegetarian options that was available on the brunch menu was unavaialble. The overall effect of this was very little choice for a vegetarian. Why, when I book, do you ask me if it is a special occasion? I said 'birthday' (my daughter's).Other places where I have ticked that box have come up with a complimentary drink, or al least said 'happy birthday'. Is it so you can spam me in 12 months time? Great location, Exmouth Market - we left thinking there were there or four other places on the same street who would have done a better job. I post this somewhat negative review not to have a go at the staff, who were all nice, bit to question the Caravan concept. Small company that's got too big and forgotten about customer experience?

£5 for a cappuccino not even done properly. Also dogs are not allowed inside.

Coffee was exceptional. Let’s start there. Breakfast extremely delicious and also generous. Feels upmarket without being pretentious

The price of this place is honestly a bit outrageous, very delicious food but for a lunch time meal it was small and overpriced. The location is lovely with seats outside but it’s not worth it.

I turned up after getting caught in torrential rain to meet a friend having bizarrely and coincidentally had brunch at Caravan Kings Cross just before. Caravan serve great coffee and excellent food with friendly staff who introduced me to their cocktails which were delicious. Strongly recommend. Thank you!

Saturday morning 01/06/24 - arrived at around 10:30 am for a coffee after cycling. Staff incredibly rude with awful customer service. I decided to sit on a table which was empty outside with no reservation sign. I was shouted at twice by the manager that I sat down on the wrong table. I tried to reason with her by calmly pointing out the table was available, however she continued to be snappy and shout at me over other customers. I promptly decided to take my business elsewhere and enjoyed a coffee at another coffee shop 100m. Abysmal customer service at Exmouth coffee shop - will not be heading back.

I had the most relaxing breakfast with lovely smiley, happy staff, very attentive and the food was delicious, I had the shakshuka eggs with merguez sausage. I have one reservation, not enough to drop a star but Why the conical flask, it should be used for holding chemical samples, but hey ho, I can live with that

This is a wonderful place to stop by if you are enjoying a day of walking and visiting sites in London. The food is awesome! Staff are fantastic and prices are excellent. Definitely worth checking it out!

I tried African food there, it was good.

It's a winner for working lunches and meetings during the day, as well as chilling in the evening. The menu is good, would recommend the fresh juices in particular and the small bowls (especially the hot salmon). The only downside is that Caravan Exmouth does not have a pizza oven, unlike the other chains such as Caravan Canary Wharf. That said, a great sit down and meet spot for breakfast, lunch or dinner when near Farringdon.

Delicious fresh grapefruit juice & Bellini! Toast with smashed avocado wasn't bad. 🥑🙂

honestly 10/10 🫶🏼 all round relaxed atmosphere with a menu that has something for everyone & the presentation/flavours of the food don’t miss. Amazing scran, vibey music, cute atmosphere & perfect service from Emma, super relaxed but didn’t miss a thing, really made our night. Niamh was a sweetheart too. The iced latte was so good we had to double up. Best coffee in LDN. I’ll stop now or i’ll just keep yapping.

Loved this place. Went there for lunch, and was a bit sceptical as I had ordered Crispy Tofu but it was so delicious, silky and the flavours we so well-balanced. Will visit again. The service was excellent even when I was alone the service was up to the mark. Will visit again :)

Background music extremely loud, average food which took ages to come to the table, and just not worth it at all.

We found a place by chance during the weekend without a reservation (all the restaurants were full, it is advisable to reserve). The service was fast and friendly. Good variety with options that are a little out of the ordinary. They only accept card payments. We were looking forward to trying the brunch/breakfast option.

Nice...but no pizzas......beware!

Felt rushed out of the door and the food was really quite average - I think I'd be better off at a Pret! It's not cheap and the original spark that Caravan had is gone. Don't recommend anymore. The staff also didn't give recommendations and were quite confused with even simple questions.

Good, but ridiculous prices for a couple of bites of protein with some grains. 3 pints, 4 bites of chorizo and some fried rice and an egg. £47 with service charge 😂

Really tasty food and mocktail options. The menu is very interesting with a lot of healthy options. The only downside was the caramelised brioche dessert - personally it wasn’t sweet enough but all in all very tasty.

Food: Nice brunch & lunch dishes with a varied menu 🍳 The coffee is great though definitely on the pricier side (£10+ for an oat mocha & oat flat white!) ☕️ Atmosphere: it was almost full so had a nice buzz for a Sunday afternoon

Very busy on Sunday 11-12 but weather was good so sat outside under heaters. Staff were amazing, attentive and helpful. Cumberland sausage Pattie was unusual and tasty, veggie breakfasts were superb, the coffee here is some of the best around

The food is not bad, but the staff are tremendously condescending and it's rather expensive. I'm also not entirely sure I get the cuisine - it seems middle Eastern inspired, but there's a lot of pork.

Caravan is good, feels more and more like a chain

It was a lovely place for a quick bite for lunch. Tasty food and excellent service.

Had a tasty brunch here, friendly place. My scrambled egg was delicious and I appreciated the plate was warm as I was sat outside. Disappointed the bread wasn't toasted as scrambled egg on untoasted bread isn't a good combination. Good coffee.

Caravan always produces such incredible flavours. So fresh and unusual. With really generous portions. And lovely staff. I ordered vegan so i could share with my friend - who said it's the best vegan food in town - if that is useful info. Otherwise check out the cod dumplings - stunning! Love this place.

Caravan never disappoints!! the shakshouka was so lovely with a depth of flavour - and such a generous portion as well! the vanilla pancakes were so good too. the mocha was one of the better ones i’ve had :)

Leider nicht zu empfehlen, das Frühstück war nicht lecker und auch beim Kaffee müssten sie das Personal nochmals nachschulen. Service war praktisch nicht vorhanden. On top hat man uns nicht über dem Service Charge informiert, sondern erstmal abkassiert, was eine Frechheit ist.

We went there for breakfast, looks a lovely place. The staff were very friendly and the menu very interesting. The food was very tasty but everything was just lukewarm, a table next to us complained about cold food before ours arrived also. It did spoil the meal, I don’t understand how everything that all four of us had was virtually cold. Such a shame.

Victim of its own success On busy times the staff can be stressed and take it out on the customers in that millennial way, either ignoring you, or demeaning you (especially if you are older or off trend in their eyes) with impatient dismissive put downs that no one deserves or expects. Being a long time customer counts for little as the staff turnover seems high, being local counts for nothing. Strange times, there are enough people visiting once to keep it buzzing, but few of them look happy sitting there. Food is fine but I'm tired of giving it the benefit of the doubt and feeling disrespected for being there.
