Captains Club Hotel & Restaurant in Christchurch

We have been to the Captains Club many times over recent years. This recent stay was great, staff very friendly and helpful. Spa was lovely with nice warm pool.

This is the 3rd time we have stayed at this hotel. The hotel is only a 5 minute walk from the centre of Christchurch and is right by the river where there is a ferry that crosses.Cannot think of anything negative to comment on. The staff are so helpful and friendly. I noticed that the hotel is used by a lot of local people (always a good sign)for morning coffee when out walking their dog. The breakfast, well there is so much choice I had scrambled egg and smoked salmon it was so good! The rooms are clean everything is provided including a full kitchen is the suites. All at reasonable prices. Will certainly book again next year. Thank you Captains Club for another great stay.

I attended a family event at the Captain's Club and was impressed by the service of the staff and the quality of the food and drink provided.

We had lunch with two friends who had a £50 voucher for the restaurant so we all decided on the 3 course set menu with each of us having different dishes. Nicola gave us excellent service and each dish was beautifully presented BUT we all found the dishes very bland. Maybe the restaurant caters for the demographic in Christchurch that does not like too tasty food. We cannot fault the atmosphere, view and service - just wish the food had more flavour.

An average afternoon tea with lack of good service. Food was ok but at £25 pp yo7d think it would be a little better with unlimited hot drinks.. but restricted to x2 drinks and only whats served. Although food was enough it was a little tasteless and average. X1 gluten free and x1 normal. Service was just a little lacking, didn't checkin with us, didn't ask if we wanted anything else and even when asked they forgot the drinks.

First visit to this location, we had a lovely afternoon tea. Great location with a view of river. Staff were fabulous and very friendly. Only slight gripe was there was no soya alternative for my coffee,only oat milk which makes coffee taste like poridge( in my opinion) and at £25 a head thought there should be a few dairy alternatives. However it was a lovely afternoon tea and I would definitely recommend.

Not for the first time I recently had a fabulous massage at the spa, with a lovely glass of wine in the bar after. This is my favourite venue - the spa is just lovely, with wonderful eSpa products and superb ambiance. I once again was lucky enough to have Katy as my masseuse who takes care to listen to your areas of concern. I can’t wait to book again!!

Ordered fries it has taken 25 minutes to arrive once arrived it was nothing but burned 🔥 awful !! Nice staff but cannot be said for the cleanness of the place. It wasn't ! The place wasn't even busy less than 10 people within the bar/ restaurant area what can I say " I was disappointed " .

Good service, very good ambiance

Six of us for brunch. Three had their orders either wrong or didn't turn up with the rest. Two with hard-boiled poached eggs, one with extra-runny. One had the hash-browns (sorry hash-brown)missing. It came on a plate, see photo, when the rest of the breakfast was cold. Coffee was lovely. Matt, the manager, explained that 'sometimes a table is just unlucky'... I feel that it was more that the chap taking our order just did not engage, i.e. listen.

Myself and my Husband had our first night of our 'mini moon' here. The lovely Katie went out of her way to make sure it was perfect for us. We cant thank you enough for the service. We will most certainly be back!

Had lunch in the restaurant, ordered the belly pork which unusually was dry n tough, plus the knife could barely cut the potato let alone the meat. It was tasty though, especially the gravy. Very small portions of vegetables definitely not worth £30.

Stunning food, beautifully presented and a joy to eat. Service was impeccable, the right balance of friendliness, efficiency and attention to detail. Lovely surroundings overlooking the harbour. I was spoiled for choice on the menu but eventually settled for a light and delicate twice booked souffle followed by an imaginative fish medley with a heavenly side portion of super crispy, triple cooked chips. Somehow I managed to squeeze in dessert, and so glad that I did! I enjoyed an exquisite strawberry mille feuille, rich and delicate made with the thinnest and crispest puff pastry. Just perfect! Special thanks to Tim and Robert for looking after us so well. HIGHLY recommended.

Popped in for a drink and the bar staff were knowledgeable and friendly.

We stayed here, it is idylic, beautiful location. Luke was very attentive, James was very helpful and Mo lovely and chatty. There is absolutely nothing to complain about. Breakfast was lovely, fresh soft fruits, fresh pastries, fresh squeezed juices, premium beverages, cooked breakfast yummy. Evening meals wow oh wow, fish dishes omg out of this world. Deserts scrumptious. Now the spa was spotless, lovely hydrotherapy pool saua. Want treatments book in advance as they are very popular. The spa receptionist lady with glasses was lovely. I cant rate this place highly enough.

Been to the club many times. Food good but not inexpensive. However. Not only do they charge for parking but Senior management arguing on the restaurant floor in full view of customers. Very disappointing. Chewton glen and priory better and no more costly.

Service is 10/10. Cocktails were good. The Pina coladas were some of the best ones I've ever had Left my coat there by accident and they kept it for me and were very friendly

Idyllic setting, lovely views, great food and attentive staff. All in all a lovely way to spend a summer afternoon. Burger and fish and chips amazing

I like to give praise where it is due and the Captain's Club restaurant certainly deserves it after my recent visit for afternoon tea to celebrate my husband's 60th birthday with family. From the initial booking and emails etc to confirm to see if we could bring our little dog to the allocation of our table and service whilst enjoying the ambience and of course a superb selection of sandwiches, sausage roll,wraps,scones, petite pastries and of course a worthy selection of teas!! A waiter even appeared with a chocolate decorated plate of Happy 60th birthday with a few handmade chocolates 😊 mmmmm.

Really disappointed. Had a business lunch there a month or so ago and had a reasonable experience so thought I'd try booking for an evening meal. Booked a week or so in advance for a special occasion for a family of 4 . Made reservation online and mentioned the special occasion. Was seated at probably the worst table in the restaurant listening to the front of house staff chatting. Typically most hosts would have enquired about the special occasion by this point, but the host really wasn't that interested. Thankfully was able to move tables. Staff seemed generally disinterested and unhappy in serving and highly disorganised. Good examples. Ordered bread and it arrives after some of the starter had arrived, three out of four mains arrive, the other doesn't - have to wait ages to even catch someones eye to enquire about the 4th main, plates left for ages on table before being cleared (it took two hours to have starters, main and dessert), table water not refilled etc. Food was ok - but some dishes left under hotplates for a long time so very dry. There's no ownership at the staff level for the dining experience - we were probably served by 5 or 6 different people... so the person who took our order wasn't the person who brought the food - so they didn't know that they had only brought 3 of the four dishes. The person who brought the dishes so knows when we were served, didn't clear them etc. Had to keep trying to get people's attention to do basic things like clear the plates, get the 4th dish, refill the water. Saw staff walking out in a 'huff' when presumably their shift had finished. All in all just a bit sub par and when you're paying around £80 per head you would expect better - imho definitely not a place to go for a special occasion type meal.

I’m a huge fan of the spa; I love the ambience, the products and the treatments. I booked a full body massage - again, the staff took note of my areas of concern and I had a fabulous massage with Lily. It was bliss! I can’t wait to book again soon.

Really disappointed. Have been to this restaurant previously when the service was really good, however, we were left sitting in the bar area without any drinks service at all. We were told we would have to go to the bar and even then the service was slow. There didn't appear to be any reason for this as the restaurant and bar were very quiet. When ordering our meal we received four wrong dishes and on one item were tod they thought we would be sharing! No idea why they thought that. Food was mediocre at best, salmon fishcakes tasteless.

nice ambiance quiet relaxing with attentive staff. food good, but not impressive tbh bit disappointed. chicken snitzel over cooked and dry thankfully had an unusual sauce, no veg but a mass of rocket which was difficult to eat stringy and huge. would have preferred some proper vegetables. fish nicely cooked bit tasteless otherwise great venue. would visit again but choose something different, that was the other problem, bit limited on menu choices.

Really enjoyed our lunch at the Captains Club overlooking the lovely river. Staff as always very polite, attentive and available but not obtrusive and above their station as in some local establishments! Our server went over and beyond checking with the kitchen that my dish was suitable for my allergy. We enjoyed a lovely leisurely lunch, and whilst the lounge area was busy the diners were well spaced out. The food was beautifully presented and all dishes cooked to perfection. Suggest if it’s a nice day, take a drink or coffee out into the terrace and watch the activity on the river. Will certainly be back. Keep up the excellent work.

I have been coming weekly, treatment is helping my condition. Spa manager Emma, and therapist Kasia have both been able to advise me on some of my muscle issues, whilst doctors and specialists have been unable to. So I am very grateful and thankful. I have been able to take this information and get further help from other specialists. I can highly recommend the treatments and spa for injuries, and muscle problems. The heat of the Spa, sauna and hydrotherapy pool together with the calm & tranquil environment are all helping my body heal. Complimentary herbal tea, iced lemon & lime water - You can order coffee, and other beverages poolside side. All this soothes your body and mind and makes for a very relaxing experience indeed. Perfect!

Went to the captains club for my birthday and I have to say that the food was not up to its usual standard knowing it was a Sunday and they were busy did not want to complain so instead phoned and spoke to Harry the bar and restaurant manager on the Monday. Who aides me he would be speaking to the chef and emailing me on Tuesday unfortunately no email arrived and when I phoned back was advised he was on holiday for a week but they would get him to email me when he returned. This email did not arrive and I sent an email which again I’ve had no response from , if this is their customer service it is not good and though I enjoy the location and usually the quality of the food this is put me off going back.

Had another wonderful stay at Captains Club this weekend. Service was as good as ever and I would like to say an extra big thank you to Luke, our sommelier and Katie, on reception, for making our experience that bit more special.

This was our second 3 night stay since our previous one in February, this time with another couple. Once again we cannot fault this hotel - magnificent rooms, amazing ambiance and the quality of ALL the staff second to none. Special thanks (in no particular order) to Luke, James, Harry, Katie, David & Shannagh and the housekeeping staff for being so efficient and helpful and always with a smile. Apologies to anyone missed out. We will definitely be back again as soon as we can. Just one tiny niggle - room for improvement in the quality of the tissues supplied in the rooms.

A luxury hotel with beautiful nature where you can enjoy your vacation.

Long Covid - I regularly use the Spa which is helping this, especially the Hot Stone massage. The therapists and Spa staff are very kind, always happy to help. Nothing is ever too much. The heat in the Spa, the hydrotherapy pool and sauna all help my condition too. What is great is that only a few people can use the facilities at one time, making it perfect for a deeper relaxation, calm and peacefulness! It's heaven! There are sunloungers to lay down on.

A really lovely place to stay. This is our second time staying at the Captains Club, and won't be the last. The staff are really great, very attentive, friendly and fun to chat with. Thank you especially to James and the Reception team. The food is absolutely gorgeous, and having cocktails at the bar was fun! Beautiful surroundings and beautiful rooms. The Captains Club is a great place to stay and eat with good views over the river. The Winter Warmer lunch is both excellent value and high quality. Friendly efficient service.

We stayed at the Captain's Club for 3 nights, it is a lovely bright purpose built hotel next to the river, with a smart yet relaxed ambience. The food in the restaurant and at breakfast was delicious and there was a good variety to choose from. What makes the Captain's Club special is the staff, thank you to all those we interacted with, the breakfast ladies, the gentlemen waiting staff and mixologists (I particularly enjoyed the house Monkey Punch and the Boulevardier, thank you Tommo for the time you spent talking to us to find out what I wanted in terms of a dessert cocktail), the staff at reception who helped us with our tandem bicycle, and the housekeeping team who not only keep the room and hotel spotless and smelling lovely but looked after our travelling companion (Mr Camel) so well :)

This is a busy hotel with large rooms and a great outlook over the river and very close to Christchurch.

We met family here for dinner. Parking was easy. Staff friendly & attentive who knew their 'trade' which made a change. Interesting menu, well cooked ie my steak arrived just right & good wine list. It was also dog friendly. An enjoyable evening.

Very good service and atmosphere, trip with 6 ladies to lunch. Good food, nothing overly impressive but was tasty. One gripe, why oh why when you ask for some mayo do you get a shop bought mini Helmanns mayo jar (like a mini jam jar). What an eco footprint, lazy and expensive to supply. Some thought on making ‘homemade mayo’ perhaps with a choice of flavours, eg smoked paprika, costing pennies rather than pounds for the guests, much more impressive given the price of the meals and doesn’t feel like a ‘fancy sachet’ of sauce. It just mayo, I’m sure the chef can make that!! No brainer and less cheap and cheesy!

Had a super night staying here this week. Easy to park and permit meant no carpark payment (make sure you register car details at reception). A perfect and tranquil setting with river / quay views. All the staff we came into contact with were local people, professional, friendly and looked like they enjoyed working here. Room had a modern decor, well equipped and spotlessly clean. Breakfast was ace too! Easy walk along the quayside. Situation ideal for anyone with mobility issues. We didn’t have supper here or have treatments in the spa, so I can’t comment on these facilities.

We had a 3 night stay. The location couldn't have been better right on the riverside. The rooms have floor to ceiling windows so you can wake up in the morning to a lovely view of the boats on the river. What a way to start your day. The bar area is large with plenty of seating. I would recommend having breakfast, all cooked to order. The spa gets busy, so it's best to book a time. The hotel has plenty of parking, which is free for residents. You're about a 10min walk into Christchurch where there are plenty of shops and some very interesting places to eat - I would recommend this hotel, so much so we intend to go back in August.

We've just come back from a fantastic overnight stay at the Captains Club. We would definitely recommend the experience with Riverside views from the room, delicious dinner overlooking the terrace and a peaceful night's sleep on our Pure Rest Bed. Topped off with a swim in the spa and a sit in the sauna all before breakfast!!

Amazing place to stay and eat for a special occasion . Our expectations were high for what we paid but more than met. Particularly impressed with the staff that made us feel they genuinely wanted us to enjoy our stay

Had a fantastic stay here on a busy Saturday night. The rooms are well appointed and spacious. Dining was excellent, made especially pleasant by the waiting staff headed up by the effervescent Harry. Retiring to the bar was also an amazing experience thank to the skills and chats with Stephen. Will definately return.

On 13th January 2024 I was treated to a spa day at Captain's Club. To say it was one of the best days ever is an understatement! The spa staff are warm and welcoming and made sure the day was an absolute pleasure. From the small personal touches of ensuring that I had everything I needed for my comfort and relaxation, from looking after me whilst I spent the morning enjoying the hydro-pool and sauna through to organising lunch in the vibrant and warm Captains Club restaurant to the beauty treatments after lunch. Katy P, my facial and massage therapist was both friendly, with a warm personality whilst completely professional, and absolutely brilliant! Thank you SO much for a very memorable and wonderful spa day. I left very relaxed. I would highly recommend Captains Club Hotel and Spa. Liz Wightman-Potter

Booked a meal at The Captains Club, a bit of a wild card as only ever been there for a coffee and a drink on the terrace in the summer. Decided to eat from the Festive menu and we were not disappointed. The food quality was good and the portions on the large side. We could only manage two courses. Staff very friendly and we didn’t feel as if we were being rushed at all even though the restaurant was busy. We both have food allergies and our server went over and above her duties to find out if what we ordered was ok. The chef even changed one of the sauces to accommodate. We will certainly return.

Perfect for our family (double) birthday celebration (group of 7). Great communicaton from David & Katie beforehand; who answered all my queries promptly. A wonderful welcome and afternoon tea. Beautiful river views from spacious suite accommodation. Sumptuous towels, robes and bedlinen, with Espa toiletries, were appreciated. The bar area is stylish and comfortable, with a great atmosphere. The breakfast hot dish choices are extensive with high quality produce. Excellent coffee too. Dinner for the birthday celebration was amazing with generous portions, and delicious well presented food! A surprise Birthday platter with treats (organised by Charlie) was a lovely gesture! Two of our group enjoyed massages in the spa area; with Emily making sure they had a great experience and again, were treated with a “Happy Birthday” chocolate platter. After 3 wonderful nights we were sad to leave… but will definitely be returning! We all agreed the location is perfect to enjoy many great things locally (walking distance) , and also short trips in the car took us to some fun things for all the group to enjoy. Thank you to everyone who made our stay special.

This place never fails to deliver great value for money, fantastic food, wine and service all with a very relaxed atmosphere, This is our favourite place in Christchurch. Well done to the team.

How could they get everything so wrong? Could not find the booking for our lunch. Waited ages for menu’s and to take order. Did not ask for any allergies. I had to state Rocket and my friend tomato. This was not acknowledged. When my cheese soufflé came it was accompanied by a rocket salad! This was changed. The second courses took over 40 minutes to come one at a time. The prawn dish was luke warm and had to be returned, By this time the risotto dish had not turned up. The replacement prawn dish was hot unlike the first one. The risotto was not cooked through and the crab hard and overcooked. We wondered why we needed 3 hours parking now we know why it takes that long to have lunch.!

We dined here during the afternoon and was treated to a freshly prepared, tasty lunch! The restaurant is on the ground floor of the hotel which is very clean and modern. We were sat outside where it was very nice to dine in the sun and look out at the boats and river. The cheese soufflé was a very solid choice: it was cheesy, buttery on the inside and was accompanied by a really flavourful side salad. Definitely recommend that. The fish & chips was massive! It is certainly very filling and you won’t be walking away hungry: the piece of fish was huge, it was invaded in a golden crispy batter while being buttery and flakey on the inside. Don’t be put off by the small amount of chips: they were thick, crispy and tasted very fresh! Trust me you will be full! Everything we had was cooked to a high standard and presented very well! The tropical crush mocktail was absolutely refreshing, I also recommend that! If I had to be critical, I would’ve liked the fish to have more flavour, this fish lacked it. So next time, it would be better if they used a more flavoursome fish like haddock. What prevents this review from being 5/5 was the quality of service: it was very slow. We had to wait along time for our drink orders to be placed and we then had to ask for our bill twice before being ignored again where we had to go up to the bar and pay. When you’re spending £120 on a meal you expect good service, sadly on this occasion this was not the case and there was no attentiveness. Not once were we asked if everything was ok. Despite this the food was very good and because of that and it’s location I definitely recommend but the service must improve to a high professional standard.

This is my second review following another out of this world Deep Tissue Massage with Katy W in the spa. She listened to my areas of concern and concentrated on my “knots” to great effect. I left feeling so much better! I can’t recommend her and the CC Spa highly enough. I am already looking forward to my next appointment. Other spa staff were helpful at the time of booking and clarified the issue of complementary parking for spa guests. I am afraid the 5 stars do not apply to the reception staff who were unhelpful bordering on rude when I tried to register our car registration for when my husband collected me for a quick drink after …..

Went for my boyfriends birthday food was incredible, couldn’t fault it. Service was spot on the waiter that served us was great didn’t get his name but he made my boyfriend birthday extra special didn’t feel rushed. Had a lovely evening so thankyou

Had a Family Sunday Lunch in the Lounge with the Family. Good news, bad news. Good news that the Lunch was superb. Biggest prawn cocktail ever and a wonderful rib of beef roast. Service great! Bad news......the very loud and grating saxophone duo. Could not hear yourself speak! Toned down it may be more acceptable(?)

Shabby outdoor furniture with no cushions unless you asked a member of staff to supply them. Plastic unravelling on chairs and very uncomfortable. Extortionate charge for a glass of wine and staff need a lesson on how to pour a pint of Guinnes.

Probably the best quality food in the Bournemouth/Christchurch area with a great location overlooking the water. The restaurant is smart. However, it was not that busy when we were there but we still had to wait quite a long time for our food which slightly spoiled the experience. Also, it was disappointing to have to pay to park in the hotel car park given that we were dining at the restaurant.

This was a business celebration meal with another couple but my husband and I also stayed at the hotel for the night. The room was lovely 109, the breakfast fantastic (room service) only issue was that our shower was rubbish. The food in the restaurant was excellent - however I would have expected this because of the price and it didn’t disappoint. What we didn’t anticipate was the customer service. All the staff we spoke to were lovely but the service we received from Cory and Christian was just wonderful. They both were attentive and knowledgeable but were such fun, they made us laugh so much, laughed with us and laughed at us. The pair of them had such wonderful personalities they were an absolute joy to be around. We all agreed that Between them they completely made our night and we can’t thank them enough for such a wonderful evening.

Celebrated my mum’s 80th Birthday on Sunday and we received really outstanding service from all the team. She knew exactly where she wanted to celebrate her special Birthday, and had wanted us all to enjoy the surroundings with pre-drinks, ideally outside, but a bit breezy late afternoon, so the staff had already reserved a large table in the bar area for us to enjoy, which was exactly what she wanted. We have been fortunate enough to have had quite a few family celebrations lately, and I have to say the service at the Captains Club has knocked spots off the other venues! The food and drinks were impressive. Not our first time at the CC and certainly not our last. Thank you 😆

Absolutely fabulous from the setting to the hotel to the food to the staff. James on reception was amazing, thank you James.... breakfast was the best breakfast we have had at a hotel, especially the home made granola! the apartment was so spacious and comfortable, cannot recommend enough.

What a marvelous surprise! The Captain's Club is all you could want in a luxury boutique hotel in the ideal location in UK. The excellent food, incl world class breakfast, and stellar service; combined with gorgeous views from.the room. Suffice it to say, we loved it and so will you?.

We ate in the restaurant for my mum's 60th birthday and it was fabulous. The staff (Corey, Christian and team) were really friendly and went the extra mile. All of our food was delicious and the view is gorgeous. I would definitely recommend!

When visiting a friend in Bournemouth we always eat one evening meal in The Captains Table and have always enjoyed the food and ambience. Sadly, on this occasion our evening was ruined by the long wait for our food and the standard of our meals...

I have used this place for both meetings and functions several times over recent years. This visit was with three work colleagues in the main dining room. It was a fine day and most of the attention from staff seemed to be focused on visitors/guests...

10 out of 10. Great staff, relaxed atmosphere, views & food of good quality. Just had a most charming Sunday Lunch. My first ever post but when you enjoy a venue which deserves praise it should be given.
