I always thought chips had potato in them. If you want fried potato skins, then this is for you. I had to go out again to the kebab shop up the road to be satiated.

Came here for the gluten free options for my mother who is 90 so it is very important for no contamination. There was a great variety for her to choose from and the fish and batter was very tasty. I had the non gluten free fish and it was delicious. Good portion sizes so we had one large fish and chips and one gluten free fish and chips between the three of us.

Tonight we pre ordered our family meal as we regularly do for collection for 7.20pm. Our family have been customers of this business for way over 30 years my parents longer. My partner arrived 2 minutes late to collect our order. We live 90 seconds away from this business. On returning home we discovered items missing so we called to say (this is the third time in 6 months our order has been completely messed up) and my partner left to collect the missing items whilst I started to dish up the meal. I discovered then everything was completely stone cold. My partner had left her phone behind so I called the shop and spoke firmly and fairly to a member of staff, I told her all the food is cold and we've been receiving bad service lately from Brown's with items missing and bad quality food and my partner (who they knew and know run a successful fish and chip shop for 14 years) is on her way to collect the missing items so please rectify it with her, I then ended the telephone call as the member of staff acknowledged to my partner I was on the phone. On my partners return this hadn't been rectified so we re heated the meal and sat down to eat and I was going to go into the shop to speak to the owner on Monday. Halfway through eating this meal Andy the leaseholder of the business called verbally abusing my partner telling her I was rude to his member of staff and we are not welcome back, I then took over the call as he was being so aggressive to her and put him on loudspeaker. He told us falsely he offered to re do the order which he didn't say anything of the sort to my partner when she collected the missing food. He told my partner she was 10 minutes late to collect the food but she wasn't. He told me his member of staff was crying when I called but my partner didn't witness her crying on collecting the missing food when this member of staff acknowledged i was on the phone. In fact there was absolutely no sincere apology except a mouth full of abuse and 10 minutes and 31 seconds of denial and utter madness. This fish and chip shop used to be the best in the area but over the last 2 years the quality seems to have degraded one hell of a lot. We choose to use it despite this as a member of our family has to have gluten free. The chips used to be golden brown and batter crispy but now the chips are pappy at best and the batter on the fish is soggy. Also the pea fritters are dry and tasteless. Quite frankly it's very disappointing when you go from looking forward to a regular treat to trying to find other businesses to do gluten free (which is difficult) to having to settle for a third rate meal. ANDY. I am fuming at the way you abused my partner on the telephone. I am disgusted at your shocking service. I'm even more disappointed you were trying to lie to me. We don't need banning from your business we were not going to ever return and that includes many more bulk orders you regularly get from other areas you didn't know I'm involved in. When we don't need gluten free we had already switched to the Priory Fryer so I will be speaking to Ray about putting on permanent gluten free options! I'm disgusted in you!!

Stopped off on way home from an event. Was very busy but that's a sign of a good chippy! I Ordered gluten free cod and chips, and my friend a battered sausage. Batter was fab and very crisp. Staff were great as quickly rectified an error I'd made when ordering. The only negative was we realised after salt/vinegar wasn't offered. Could have been missed due to sorting out my order mistake though. Would definitely visit again if in the area.

My daughter declared it was the best fish and chips she'd had a I agree! Great for gluten free!

Stopped here as we found gluten-free on the menu. Bit of a queue, but that shows how popular and good they are. Worth the trip, and close enough to eat by the sea!

Very good fish and chips. The fish was freshly cooked while we waited, and the chips were chunky and freshly cooked, too. I would recommend this for takeaway. They also have a restaurant next door..

Beyond happy! So pleased to be able to get gluten-free free fish and chips by the seaside and to feel normal again not being left out of one of our favourite summer treats. There are lots of options and gluten-free sauces too. Amazing.

Closes during the evening dinner timeframe at 7.30pm which is way too early especially during the summer months. When the queue is out of the door they stop serving even if folk have been stood waiting for a while. Doesn't feel customer focused at all. Better off elsewhere with a decent serving time.

Offers a good gluten free range, including GF vinegar! Very tasty cod and chip and excellent service (friendly & efficient). We shared a large portion and it didnt quite fill us,so would recommend portion size is considered when ordering.

This fish and chips were the worse we have had. We went on a Saturday night at 5pm the chips tasted as they had been reheated from lunch time and large fish very disappointed again not cooked fresh. We would have taken back but was on our way home

We have gone from 5 down to 1. This is a new update. Very very disappointed this time around. All chips so soggy all went in the bin. Two pieces of rock the size of a half slice of bread all the batter on both pieces binned an absolute waist of money. We did not go back instead we went over to burger king for the rest of the week.

Walked in and was starred at by all members of staff ( atleast 4) 4 people waiting around for someone to order.... just stood there doing nothing. If the shop isn't busy atleast ensure the food is fresh when customers come in chips were hard and cold and atmosphere was pretty dead. If there are no orders they should be cleaning or wiping the shop fronts certainly not stood there with a face like a wet fish 🙄 wish I got paid for standing around and serving cold chips 😅

Delicious food and excellent customer service. Best fish and chip restaurant/takeaway in Dorset. Cant wait to return to my new favourite restaurant Brown's in Christchurch.

Rude staff blanked when we went in, staff found it differcult to raise a smile and politeness was a long distance off, more training needed gone downhill Large cod and chips (g/f) was no bigger than an ordinary SMALL cod, if they couldn’t supply large G/F COD they only had to say, we won’t be using your services again,. , WE WILL NOW USE THE ONE AT ALDER ROAD IN PARKSTONE BY FAR THE BETTER OF THE TWO, PLEASANT STAFF, FOOD PORTIONS BETTER, WELL DONE PARKSTONE WE WILL BE BACK

Best gluten free fish and chips in the south

Gluten free. Great food and so nice to be able to eat like a normal person. Had fish & chips and couldn’t resist a sausage in batter which I’ve never seen offed gluten free before. Purchased frozen meat for another day and it’s definitely the best pie I’ve had. Beat pie minster gluten free pie for meat content easily. Thanks

Went in to get dinner for my daughter last night, the teenage girl serving had a face like thunder and had attitude while grunting at me to see what I wanted. She angrily put my food in theor bags and slammed it on the counter, when I confronted her she stormed off out the back and slammed the door. I will not be going back if she is serving.

Called in on Thursday 15th Feb. Rang 30 minutes ahead and asked if they could accommodate 7 people and 2 dogs. Not a problem! Arrived and table was set up already. Sue (I think) looked after us and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the food. She made us feel welcome from the moment we got there and made everything easy. We went out for dinner this weekend, and said the restaurant could learn a lot from Sue at Browns! Thanks for a lovely end to our day out. We will be back.

Good quality cuisine, and with special offers that ensure that your pockets won't be drained! Hygiene levels are first rate here as well, the staff put you at ease immediately, and you can either eat in or take out depending on your preference. I am happy to recommend Brown's Fish & Chips to any potential customers!!

What happened to this place! This used to be one of the best in the area but now the worst, portion of Cod and Chips was very small the chips were ok but a little cold but the fish was awful, skinless fish in a soggy batter. Sorry Browns you used to be good but not anymore, I won’t be comming back !

Lovely fish & chips at a good price, friendly staff and spotless. Worth the walk from Avon beach (we were in a camper and didn't want to lose our space 😬). We nearly went to the Lobster place on the beach itself - glad we made the effort 😁

Went to your shop today because it says it’s open on your website you were closed. Yes I know it was New Year’s Day but it still says you were open really disappointed. Please try to remember to change your opening hours

Went for a takeaway after shopping. Service was fast and prices typical of the area. The fish and pineapple were freshly battered and fried and were very good. Afraid the chips must have been from the bottom of the tray with lots of small crunchy bits and cool so disappointing. Hopefully on another day they would be better

I just moved to the area with my family and chose to visit Browns for our family’s fish and chip dinner on a Friday night. One of the factors why we chose this chippy was because the website said it had inside seating. When we went to place our order we were served by Natalia who unsympathetically pointed out that the public seating was not open. So we ordered our fish and chips and we were met with an ‘attitude’ when I asked if the order could be split because I needed to take mine to eat separately at work. My request to her was not received at all well by her. In the end, they did split the order and we went on our way. On Friday, we went for the second time to get fish and chips and this time I had already made the decision to place two separate orders; so I could take my order to work and to save the ‘inconvenience’ of having to ask for it to be split. Once again I was ‘greeted’ by Natalia. I said please can i have one order of fish and chips, and then one regular fish with large chips. She asked me whether I wanted the fish breaded…which confused me greatly. Apparently, I confused her as well with my order. She was rolling her eyes and muttering under breath and had an attitude that was justvplain rude. I have never experienced such bad attitude when getting fish and chips. I will never give my custom to Brown’s again…which is actually a shame because the fish (battered not breaded) and chips were really good. We will go to Captain Cod from now on.

Such a great place, our 6yr old daughter has ceoliac disease so this is literally the only fish and chip shop she can eat anything battered from for about 100miles radius of us in Ringwood!! And as a bonus it is actually some of best tasting food I have eaten from a fish and chip shop, the gluten free batter is better than normal batter, try it for yourself. Really well run and looks impeccably clean. Please never ever close Brown's!! Thank you

Very disappointed. Haddock and chips were cold, one haddock was gluten free, batter very poor quality. One staff member dropped wet salad in the fryer, made a very loud sizzle. No apology from staff, just the 2 female staff giggling. Very unprofessional. I phoned and complained to boss who just took offence at my complaint. What a waste of £28 most of the food was left as the fish was hugely under cooked. I am even worried of cross contamination

Great chippy. Feel they are missing out by not opening lunchtimes as all the staff in all those new big shops have no where for lunch except McDonalds. Should be a little goldmine at lunchtimes.

Not impressed.a large cod and chips cost £10.50 and the fish was tiny, probably the same size as 2 chunky fish fingers. A complete let down. I dread to think what the small would have been like. We won’t be going back.

Slowest wait for take away food ever and serving staff rude and ignorant. No idea how to talk to customers, to busy having their own conversation and mucking about.

Wonderful fish and chips, if I lived local I would visit more often

Stopped here for dinner last night after a visit to Mudeford and so glad we did. Staff were so friendly and welcoming and the cod and chips was amazing! Our dogs were also allowed to sit inside with us 😊

This review is the second regarding Browns Fish and chips. The first review was 5. This review has put it down to 1. Piles of chips which tasted old and warmed up virtually all went in the bin. For fish we had rock (huss) very very small certainly not worth the £6.75 a portion. The batter was greasy half went in the bin. What's happened. We stayed at Premier Inn and was going to go to this fish and chip shop for the 3 days. One visit was enough this time. Very disappointed.

Was disappointed for the price. Soggy batter was never a favourite.

Great Gluten free Fish and chip shop we have been going here for years as my dad is celiac and they have a great choice and it's good quality fish not bruised skinless and boneless and great range of gluten free sauces. Staff are lovely very friendly happy to help. Great value for money as well great family business.

Haven't used Browns for some time so decided to go back. The Cod and Rock were excellent however the chips weren't. They were cooked but dry and only warm, like they'd been cooked for some time and left to dry out. It's probably because they are so busy on a Friday that the chips are cooked in bulk and left to sit. The service was good and overall it is good value. Get the chips right and it would be a 5* all day.

I went today about 5.30 ordered my food when got home my pie was missing I tired called but line busy every time so gave up in end and I dont live in the area was just there at that time so couldn't go back to the shop so I'm asking for a refund for the pie my order number was 62 I think I did leave the Receipt there in a bowl with used ones other then that food was good 👍

I loved this place (pardon the pun).Had a take out. Best cod ever which was cooked perfectly. Good earthy chips too. Excellent and efficient (another pun) service. Liked that they suggested smaller portion for me and offered a bit of lemon for fish. Nice touch. Good to see regular clientele in the shop. Will be back and recommend to others. Sara.

Always use Brown's when we're down Mudeford way. Always good quality with a wide selection on the menu. Cooked to order and competitively priced. Staff are friendly, welcoming and efficient.

Had takeaway from here again while back on holiday - was as good as when we visited last summer. Had gluten free fish, chips, sausages in batter and mushy peas between us and it was all cooked perfectly. Didn't have to wait long - all cooked to order. Really enjoyed it and can't wait to come back.

Food tastes nice but portions seem smaller every time we go

The fish and chips were excellent. The staff were very efficient and friendly and the prices were very good.

Overall, our dinner from this chippy was positive. The chips were nice: not dry at all and quite tasty however there was no salt and vinegar (you have to put it on yourself, it would be better if they could do this while preparing up the food) the cheese & onion fry-it was delectable (definitely recommend!) and the fish was also nice but it was somewhat greasy so I would have preferred for it to be less greasy and also bigger (especially for a large size). The establishment looked clean and well maintained plus the staff were relatively friendly and not rude. Takes about a 5-7 minute drive to Highcliffe Beach so it’s a good idea to get dinner from here and bring it down onto the beachfront! I definitely would consider coming back again.

Our favourite chippy in the area. Staff are always welcoming and friendly. Giant burger is my favourite but they also do gluten free which suits my hubby.

Fish was oily, was asked if I wanted lemon then didn't get any. Chips were fabulous as twice cooked and soft. Good parking . Staff need customer service training would not go back.

I always come here when I visit bournemouth even though I have to get in a bus. Gluten free fish and chips, onion rings, pies, scampi. All amazing!

Friendly, efficient service by staff who care about their customers. Very impressed with Sarah going outside to greet an elderly disabled customer personally, sorting his order and ensuring he put his food and change safely before leaving. GF food was excellent. Chips were nicest I had in ages and their mushrooms are spot on.

Takeaway Shocking price for a stodgy steak and kidney pie,£4:50 Chips were barely warm, and no vinegar, was offered sachets, would not recommend at all

It's a chip shop that does Gluten Free fish and chips. We visit regularly so you have got to give it 5 stars. I gave it just 2 stars for atmosphere because there isn't any. But it isn't meant to have atmosphere, it's a chippy. It is impossible to reach them by phone to place an order so 3 stars. Even ordering online would help. The food is great though, so go visit, get your chips and sit on the beach. 5 star chippy.

This place is great if you are a coeliac or gluten free. They have great GF options, take food cross contamination very seriously and the food was lovely. The staff are really nice and helpful which is the cherry on top

Very good food and have used Brown's quite a few times when in the area.

The cod was top class, chips needed to be cooked for a bit longer though. As it was good Friday, we thought it best to phone and order our meals, turned out to be a waste of time, still had to wait for over 25 minutes for our meals, several customers arrived after us and left before us, and they just ordered over the counter, the waitress who eventually brought our meals through was quite rude, I put this down to a busy shift, however as we are new to the area, first impression last. We will probably go back but there are other chippies within a 5 minute drive.

My family like this place for the Gluten Free options.

This place always seems busy when we visit the area, but we have never had one of the amazing takeaways others have mentioned. On our first visit my sons fish resembled 2 fish fingers, hardly worth the price tag. We gave it a second chance tonight and the fish appeared to be a child’s portion. My husband complained and was told that’s the size it comes. When my son went to eat it, the batter was stuffed with 6 chips…. So it was actually even smaller than it looks. We won’t be visiting again…

Great variety of fish available. Also a choice of batter, including gluten free. Small cafe adjoining takeaway where you can eat in at lunch time. Lots of extras including onion rings, Pickled onions, pea fritters, etc. Everything is cooked fresh to order.

By all accounts the fish is great but I'm not a fish fan. Chips are nice but the plain sausages taste unpleasant to me and the saveloys are always luke warm. I've had a couple of missing items in the past as well. Take as you find, I see loads of great reviews but this is just my experience.

Used to the best chip shop on the area standards have slipped a bit. Fish not quite as nice, batter a bit thick and doughy, Could br better.

It's no surprise that this chip shop is highly rated. Everything was very tasty and Amelia was a very friendly and helpful waitress.

One evening during May, we ate fish 'n chips from Brown's mobile unit at a Caravan & Motorhome Club site in Wickham, Hampshire: Rookesbury Park. Such a friendly and good fun team of 3 people. Were they good Fish 'n Chips? We ate them on a Friday night on 14 Fridays throughout May-September! We were visiting family members in the area. They all enjoyed the Fish 'n Chips (and Pea Fritters!) so much that we formed a family 'Friday Nights Fish 'n Chip Club' with up to 10 cousins eating each week. Brown's wonderful service and food facilitated our entire family creating some really good memories this past summer. If yiou see them somewhere ... do yourself a favour, buy some of their Fish 'n Chips!
