Always tasty. No complaints at all. Pre-ordering is always better at the weekends to avoid waiting too long in the cold or rain.

Ordered two sausage and chips was told it would take five minutes.....actually ten,during my wait I looked upon sellotaped notices dotted randomly here and there which signalled a scruffy relationship with the customer. Cash was mentioned for orders under £15...really ? Got home and sausage meat was white ? Chips were stale with potato hard to find perhaps reheated.As an older chap 70....who has had his fair share of visiting chippies this alas has to rank very lowly.

This place has a very good selection of very tasty authentic food, it's very reasonable on price too, I would definitely use again, I highly recommend this place to all.

First time having a Chinese from here even though we’ve lived in the village for years. Normally order from horsham and get it delivered. Was recommended by a friend so tried it tonight. Nice to see some Thai options on the menu, we enjoyed the pad Thai. Had a beef dish and that was very very tasty. The chicken balls were lovely. Food tasted fresh and hot, we ordered on line and went to collect and it was ready and on time. Will definitely order again rather then getting it from horsham

Once again I am leaving a 5 star review for this place. I honestly love love love their food. This fish and chip tea we had was absolutely gorgeous....the fish was cooked beautifully the batter is amazing the chips were perfect. The only little tiny thing was the mushy peas. They weren't very mushy...more runny BUT....once they had cooled down a bit they were OK...as they got a bit thicker. NOT a complaint at all. Well done Capital...you fed my tummy happy again! 😊

I'm absolutely furious with this unorganised chaos!! I understand new years eve would be busy but good lord this was just unbelievable....after ordering online many hours before pick up I was waiting an hour and a half before finally asking for a refund!! Absolutely disgraceful service or lack of..every body was waiting well over the time they ordered it and I think they dont actually bother cooking the food untill you actually turn up and yet with lots of people waiting and complaining they were still taking phone orders they obviouslycould not cope with the orders they already had. No apologies whatsover...this place needs shutting down or complete overhaul

Just had a small cod and chips...mushy peas and curry sauce for our saturday night tea. This fish and chip/chinese takeaway shop has never disappointed us...EVER. And tonight is no exception...they have changed their curry sauce recipe and it was one of THE most delicious curry sauces I have ever had! I would most definitely be having that sauce again. Please dont change that sauce again! The chips had lots of lovely crispy bits and their Cod is always top class. I am a very full happy customer.

Since the new owners took over a couple of years ago the standard has risen sharply. I have really enjoyed both Chinese meals and the chip shop servings.

If you really need to be careful with your diet eg allergies/vegetarian/pescatarian do not eat from here. I had a king prawn dish which contained small pieces of chicken and pork. I asked them for an explanation but did not receive a reply. Chicken satay starter was ok but plain chow mein was greasy with a heavy dose of soy sauce. Have not ordered from here in years and now I remember why. They really could be the greatest asset to Southwater if they upped their game and got in a decent wok chef.

Haven’t had Chinese for ages so thought I would treat myself as my wife loves and wanted indian. So phoned to order only to be spoke to by a abrupt person answering the phone also no please or thank you and was told would be 10 minutes. So went to pick up and pay only to be meet by the young rude girl again! Food not ready and no please or thank you again! Got home dished the food up only to find that the rice was dry and stodgy! Sweet&sour chicken balls were on the edge of needing fresh oil as they tasted bland and greasy! I’ve order from here before and it’s been ok but last night was awful! And after that I’ll think twice before ordering again!!

I have been going to the Capital since I moved to Southwater around 18 years ago (and when it was in the old shopping centre). I would say that the quality now it is the best that is has ever been, particularity the fish and chips (and i used to live round the corner to one of the best fish & chip shops in the South East). I have seen some older reviews here that are not so complimentary and i will say that the quality has certainly varied over the years and many years ago i stopped eating the fish and chips. However, the quality now is excellent. The only issue I have at the moment is that it is closed for refurbishment! I have tried both Mandarin House and the Hon Kong - neither were as good (in my opinion). I am just waiting for the Capital to reopen!

We get take away from here regularly as it's very close to home. The food is good again after a few issues when it changed ownership. Being both Chinese food and fish and chips, etc. means there is a good selection to satisfy different tastes. It can be busy at times so be prepared to wait for 30 minutes although it is generally more likely to be 10. We always phone the order through and go to collect it after the time they give but even then the queue to pay can be long. I guess that shows how popular it is as they are not slow. Recently they increased the minimum spend on cards to £15 which is a bit high so be prepared to pay by cash. They have a loyalty card but we rarely spend enough on three of us to get a stamp. The portion size is good so when my wife and I get our usual selection of 4 items that will provide two days of food for us all for around £16. So that works out to around £4 per meal. There is plenty of parking and other shops in the area. This is take away only.

The food is very tasty and the cartons are extremely well packed so you really feel you are getting value for money. Consistently every dish is delicious and the meat used is good quality. The chilli chicken is the best Chinese dish I've ever tried! The restaurant seems very clean and well organised.

Went on Friday evening at 8 & have to say that I would not have let what I opened at home out of my shop (if I had one)! Cod with the consistency of sloppy fish cakes, tiny overcooked, rubbish chips & certainly a cheaper/ half the quality chicken nuggets.quite revolting. We go there frequently but this was our last trip, not impressed!

For some reason recently we've got into the habit of ordering Indian if we're having a takeaway. But decided it was about time we tried The Capital. We like spicy so I ordered accordingly. All dishes were very tasty and good sized portions. For me I thought the quality of the beef was a little better than the chicken, however the rest of the family liked both equally. Its great they offer a delivery service to, but card payment as well as cash would be fab. Will be ordering again.

We had quite a big order and were able to place it over the phone. When we arrived ot collect, it was ready. Also, accurate - no mistakes. Peking duck, sweet and sour pork, rice, prawn crackers, vegetable chow mein, etc. No problems.

Use to have takeaways from here but seldom do since new owners took over, even the sweet and sour sauce taste different, shame because it was good

The place is popular which means that it is busy. The wait time from order to collection can be quite long. The food is generally ok but there are other places that offer a better quality.

Very, very disappointing since new management !... Had Chinese meal a few weeks ago, absolutely awful, tasteless slop !, the egg fried rice was so hard and dry it was barely edible. The pork balls in batter was like eating something wrapped up in damp cardboard and as for the sweet'n'sour sauce, it had the consistency of wallpaper paste and probably didn't taste much better so we thought last night, short of time we'll try the Fish'n'chips. Wish we hadn't, grease, grease, grease. I think they're feeding their waste oil products to us customers to save themselves disposal fees. The fish and FROZEN chips both taste like they've been marinated overnight in oil before being dished up. AWFUL ! .

Good village Chinese / Fish and Chip takeaway. The large pancake rolls are excellent, but beware they are filling and may affect your appetite for the main event. The menu has all the usual Chinese suspects and whilst not a culinary experience the quality is of a good standard.

I used to go here fairly frequently and never suffered any ill effects however I have heard that the quality has decreased since the place changed hands. I went to get a battered sausage after I'd been to the Lintot which tasted amazing however I was then extremely ill later on. Avoid.

Didn't know it was possible to muck up curry sauce and chips with battered sausage. The chips had obviously been pre cooked and warmed up some burnt in a curry sauce which had no flavour. I'm not to sure what was green the chips or curry sauce. The sausage was soggy not a crisp batter and greasy. Three very unhappy customers. Disgusting food. Won't be long till there closed selling food of that quality.

I have to say we visited this Chinese before it went downhill it was good now has changed owners and staff they seem to be more with it. The food was very hot and they do my favourite dish which is Salted Chilli Wings pretty much spot on. Will defo visit again soon.

The food was over cooked, not the best Chinese we had , would go back sorry , They cooked some off the Chinese food in the fat which they cook there fish and chips in, That's not good ☹️

Capital was great a few years back, then changed hands and Chinese takeaways were awful. Tried again recently as heard they had new staff and was impressed with the food.

Both the Fish and Chips and Chinese food are what you would expect, which is a positive.

I have lived in Southwater since 1999 and always had takeaways from Capital. We had one a couple of weeks ago and it was so awful it made myself and my hubby feel really sick and we left most of it and it was really expensive. We really could do with a great Chinese in Southwater - I can't find a decent one anywhere near us now and this was always a real treat for me.

Picked up my food tonight. Chicken curry egg rice chow mien and prawn crackers. The chicken curry was horrendous. The chicken was a bright white colour and very mushy like fish textured but it wasn’t fish. I would love to know what hell it was and so would nasa I think.

Had Fish and chips from Capital in Lintot square which was good not very busy for a Saturday lunch time but the staff were friendly

We live 6 miles away but have had a takeaway from Capital for more than 30 years. There was a problem with new owners about a year ago but we told them our concerns and they improved. The manager (Lisa), is a very nice and conscientious person however the Capital Special Copy Suey I had yesterday was awful. I opened the full container and tipped it onto my plate and sat down and ate a nice chunk of chicken and a small piece and two small pieces of beef and I hunted and found two "King prawns" and the rest was vegetables, (mainly carrot and water chestnut), along with soggy beansprouts and the sauce was a different and not so nice taste.This dish used to be full of meat and I would struggle to eat it but there would still be some left for our drooling dogs. I phoned Lisa and she said sorry and offered to replace it or refund the money next time I come in. As we live 6 miles away a replacement was not a practical option. Unfortunately after 30+ years I won't be going back because i can't trust the kitchen staff any more. This hurts me to write this as it used to be so good, but I do not feel confident using this takeaway any more.

Quite possibly the worst meal I have ever bought. Threw it away. New owners are likely to be closing down I suspect at this rate - used to be queues out the door, now terrible & no queues.

This takeaway has recently changed management and although the food is still ok you can't buy pay for fish & chips on a card, even though it costs nearly £7 for fish and chips. Ridiculous 40p charge for anything less than £8.

Take out for family (chinese) Saturday 8th April. Well what a disappointment, really poor , hard thick batter covering non exsistant squid , soggy stodgy rice .I Will not go on . This is a fish shop pretending to also cook Chinese Thai and Malaysian food , I don't think so ! Do your self a favour and don't waste your hard earnt on this third rate take out !

Not been for a longtime as was just awful!!! Tasteless,greasy just bad really bad!! But had not tried it since under new management,after a very long decision what to get and we're from I said let's give the Capital ago!?! To which we all agreed so off I went to pick up the Chinese which took about twenty minutes,satay beef special Fried rice,king prawn balls chicken noodles and crispy duck!!! To which it was very good tasty and I mean really tasty the satay beef was lovely not chewy and the king prawn balls weren't greasy so will be going back again at last a nice Chinese takeaway in southwater!!!

Reheated chips yuk! We used to live in Southwater years ago before Lintott Square, and the food from here was lovely. Now I wouldn't eat here irrespective of how hungry I am. Please avoid!

Very generous portions and usually pretty quick at getting the food out. Can be a bit slow during the normal busy times, but nothing too bad.

Have been using this takeaway for over 20 years and it was recently sold. Sadly the food is now dreadful..how did it all go so wrong!

Came here a few months ago as ot had just been taken over and everything was a bit down compared to the previous owners. Last time slow service and not great tasting food. This time....... Slow service, yet I was the only one in there. Food was still under par. Very very disappointed. And to top it off there were some eastern Europeans working in there and they would just look at you and talk another language to each other. I find that rude. Avoid

Have used this takeaway for years,Sadly it's now awful,and I've never written bad review before,but felt compelled,chips were undercooked three of us threw them away fish was just goo! Chicken curry which my son has regularly when visiting couldn't even be called chicken and sauce was watery,total waste of money ,staff didn't have a clue what they were doing,had to repeat order three times and they still messed it up! Won't be going back after over 14 years use that bad...

Hadn't been for fish and chips for a few months but decided to have some this week. Looked at the recent reviews and was a bity wary, but as it had always a good before, I decided to find out for myself. First impressions were that it was very busy with long queues which included customers for both chines and fish and chips. Placed my oder and was given a ticket with an order number but was not told how long I was likely to wait. Noticed that the staff were not wearing proper hygenic 'kitchen' but baseball caps and the girls hair was not tucked up underneath. Needs to be remedied quickly. The kitchen area for fish and chips was however clean and tidy. After a 20 minute wait finally got my fish and chips (Haddock, huss, and chips). These were probably the best fish and chips I've had in a very long time. cooked to perfection, light and crisp batter and no excess oil of fat. Good sized portions for a hungry adult. I'd rate them 5 out of 5 for the food but only 3 out of 5 for the headwear hygiene. So a 4 out of 4 overall. I will certainly go back for more of the delicious fish and chips and hope the hygiene is resolved.

I am literally distraught about what has happened here. Been having Chinese here ever since it opened. They have changed owners and with it suppliers, everything is just horrendous. Cheap processed soggy chicken, flavours have totally changed, almost like someone has cooked it out of a jar with frozen ingredients. IT IS SO SAD!!!!!!!!I know the little woman who used to run it was a miserable as sin, but my god I miss her now. Please see my previous review. I WILL NEVER RETURN HERE!!!!Food cooked by a scruffy English Bloke , hair on the lid of one of the cartons. Avoid

We get a takeaway from here once a month or so, the Fish & Chips aren't that great but whenever we get a Chinese it is always good. I think that they have had a change of ownership lately as there is all new people in there. They do take ages to get the food out but that sort of makes me think it is all cooked fresh so not sure that is a negative. The only complaint I have is that the last time we got anything from them they missed out the Kung Po Prawns which was a massive let down

We've been going here for nearly 19 years and never had a bad meal, in fact if anyone was coming to the village we would recommend they went there. I don't know what's happened but after the service and quality getting steadily worse, tonight's meal was the final straw. Soggy chips, basically a pile of potato mush, bad cod and a ridiculously long wait. Last time for us, so sad. If you want excellent fish and chips, go to Partridge Green but take cash.

Ordered 4 sausages and chips, it was not that busy but took 35 minutes people who ordered were leaving before me, very poor service no apology , seems to have changed staff not a patch on the old ones

Brought fish and chips. Waited 20 minutes for our order, and their was only one other person in the que, and that's with 5 staff behind the counter. Chips fine, but the fish was inedible, because of the amount fat. It would seem that the fish was boiled in the fat rather than fried.

I went in at 6pm and was the only person there. Ordered 4 items, egg rice beef chow mein sweet and sour chicken balls and salt and spicy chicken.15 mins after i placed the order i was still waiting, 20 mins later i asked if it was going to be much longer...... All i received was a vacant look from the girl and the chinese lad in there. He went back to the kitchen and came out and said they were just finishing one of the dishes. I finally received my order at 6.25pm. No apology for being so slow despite being the only person to order chinese in there.Got the food home excited, only to be let down as soon as i saw the sweet and sour sauce..... This was so watery it was horrible! The rice was very salty, the chow mein was very oily and then the salt and spicy chicken! Could i find any chicken???? Hell no! it was more like shredded chicken in batter, the tiny thin strips were so small and over cooked in the batter they were rock solid. I honestly didn't know if i was eating chicken or just the batter mix as i couldn't see any chicken! Very disappointed, it seems to have changed over owners now.... New staff and new chefs. I will not be going back there again. If you want a chinese then i suggest you give this place a miss and take the drive into Horsham and go to Mr Li's.

Quick service, reasonable price, Chinese food lacks in flavour and quality compared to others in the area. Fish and chips are tasty.

The noodle dishes are good, meat dishes ok, somewhat soggy. We only go here if we don't want to drive into Horsham.

The Chinese food here is superb. I've had a variety of dishes all of which are excellent. Defiantly worth getting your dinner here.

Had a long day and decided on Fish and Chips for the family, our usual place in Horsham was shut so had to use this establishment in Southwater despite previous poor experiences. It was truly dreadful! The Plaice was literally some skin smothered in overcooked batter, the "cod" was overcooked and the sausage came in two pieces and was almost raw! truly disgusting! If I could have been bothered I would have taken the whole lot back! NEVER EVER AGAIN! AVOID!!

The Worst service, Staff and food in a take away i have ever visited!Impolite and moody staff who converse to each other in Mandarin while looking directly at you and your kids etc....They only cook to order, Even on busy nights! When they should be constantly frying to cater for customers..... Small stingy portions of chips and cod with a thick black skin....? More like Basa (Cheap river catfish from Vietnam) sold as Cod.....As for the Chinese food, Never ever again........

We were staying near by and fancied fish and chips wish we had checked in Trip Advisor before we went to this disgusting fish and chip shop, as people have mentioned before I was served by a very miserable woman who managed to forget to write down my order I wish I had forgotten to pay and walked away the cod and chips we had were the worst I had ever tasted, the cod was soggy and the chips tasted revolting, we will never be going back there again do not waste your money.

The management, staff and employees in the take away are miserable, unsociable, and point blank rude. Young people I know have been using this take away for 3 years and the staff are exceptionally rude.As for the food, £2.20 for a large portion of chips, I do not expect miracles but my Husband could have eaten them alone and still not have been full. There were more little crisp bits than actual chips.If you are looking for a good "chippy" try Partridge Green, the food and staff are superb and understand customer service.The only reason The Capital is busy is because kids frequent it and people cannot be bothered to get in there cars.

Ordered a take away for the family from here. I would not bother again as it was terrible.The server looked as if she had had enough no smile or goood evening customer skills of zero. The pancake roll was oily and fell through the bottom of the bag.The chips tasted foul of old oil.The egg fried rice seemed over done the chichen noodles were the only good thing about the whole take out. We will go to Horsham from now on.

Haddock and chips, sounds simple enough? Well not in the case of this place, freezer burnt and chewy around the edges, skin removed as I suspect, correction, I know that it wasn't haddock and for someone who knows what to look for I Can tell you it was either talapia or river cobbler. The Cod my wife had was Cod though, just watery and mushy, again this happens when it comes out of the freezer! Even wing yips curry sauce has been watered down so much it looked more like a chicken noodle soup without the noodles. Not gonna bother with them again!

You certainly don't get "service with a smile" here and the food has to be some of the worst we've ever had. The rice was overcooked & dry, noodles were also overcooked & very slimey! But the biggest fault was the food was just so bland, no flavour at all.Don't waste your money, go somewhere else!

The food is of good quality and fast, but they really need to learn to smile a bit to get that extra star. But otherwise a good takeway but they really need to work on the experience to the customer. It also has the last time I looked a four star hygiene rating which stands for very good. So worth a visit but don't expect to be welcome with opening arms.

Can't agree more with the previous review regards wishing I had not gone back! The staff are not friendly and the food middle of the road. It's only lazy southwater residents who use them - drive/bus/walk or cycle into horsham for your chips and Chinese you won't regret it!

Very tasty Chinese food. One of my favourites. The staff are a bit rude the way they are quite blunt and then talk in Chinese to each other in front of the customers. That being said, the food pretty much makes up for it as it is amazing.

Every six months we turn to each other and say "fancy fish and chips tonight?" and every six months we make the same mistake and go to the local shop in Southwater, Capital Chinese.And every six months we say "never again". Well this time we really mean it.This is a business clearly resting on its laurels and benefitting from the captive audience in Southwater. The chips are always soggy and flavourless, the fish cheap and lacking in decent flesh and the service often makes us think they resent our custom (although to be fair, the young lad does actually make a bit of effort on this front).It is time people of Southwater made the sensible decision to drive into Horsham and frequent any one of a number of much higher quality fish and chip shops who actually care.
