I had breakfast outside so I couldn't rate the atmosphere. The food was good, the server was friendly and helpful. They checked that everything was okay with the meal which was attentive of them. I'd be interested to explore the dessert menu. Coffee was nice, not too strong.

We ordered a burger and two sides for takeaway. The food was awful—the bun was over-toasted, making it crumbly and dry, the burger patty was tough, and the salad inside was wilted and old. The chips were okay, but nothing special. On top of all of this the system crashed meaning we waited for about 40mins for sub-par food. What was even more off-putting than the food was a certain curly-haired waiter. On both occasions we’ve visited the restaurant, he’s made my partner uncomfortable by staring unnecessarily. This time, I saw it myself. While we were waiting for our order, he stood about two feet away and, for a good minute or two, intensely stared at my partner. If you want good food without feeling creeped out, I’d suggest eating somewhere else!

Nice boho antique chic vibe, staff are friendly. Wine £7:50 for 175mls glass. Nice artwork for sale on the walls too. Very (well behaved) small child friendly

I hired out Canvas & Cream as a venue to celebrate my daughter’s 21st birthday. We had the use of the cafe from 6pm to midnight on Saturday evening. Owain, the manager, was great with communication leading up to the event. He and his staff were also fantastic during the evening itself, ensuring that my daughter had a wonderful evening - from helping with decorating the venue ahead of the event to responding to all our requests during the evening and looking after all the guests so well. The venue itself is beautiful and worked perfectly for our celebrations. Would thoroughly recommend. Thank you

Tasty food, cake, coffee. Always warmly greeted on arrival and leaving. Spacious toilet / baby change downstairs. I don’t love the bus seats they have as uncomfy,… but you can always state your preference in n where to sit! 😅

Thanks to Owen and his team at Canvas & Cream for hosting a brilliant private 40th bash for Tim. Service was excellent and lovely drinks. Great venue for parties and special times! ❤️

First time going in today and was met by lovely staff all round who were very accommodating and quick to serve. I was pleasantly surprised by how good the food was and they even brought some toys out to keep my little one entertained. Deffo will be back to this lovely independent place.

I will let the photos speak for my review. Thank you Chef for respecting food and our £40 to get some take away. For throwing our food like it's rubbish. If you don't like your job, quit. Thank you again for making our day. I don't need someone to respond and tell me that was the driver because it is clear on the photos that the ingredients were thrown in the box.

Quirky establishment, very friendly staff, and well laid out (apart from the tables close to the stairs to the downstairs toilet). The food we ordered was very good indeed. The only downside was the regular cup of coffee that seemed quite small to an expected regular size, but still good.

We dropped by for tea and cake in the afternoon. Their homemade cakes are delicious and we loved the homely setup. They seem to be a community base for activities I would take part in if I lived in the neighborhood.

Went on bank holiday Monday with friend .Had Ranch eggs on flatbread nwhich were divine .Beautifully and subtly flavoured ,perfect mix of texture and yumminess. The guy who served us really made my day ,upbeat ,so helpful ,made me feel that he wanted us to completely enjoy ourselves .But not obsequious or intrusive. Wouldn't it be wonderful if all service could be delivered in his manner .

Mother’s Day 2024 update: a lovely lunch with my Mum & Dad, and some delicious breakfast Bloody Marys! The staff team did a heroic job on a really busy morning and took extra care of my retired guide dog too. We had a lovely brunch and I particularly enjoyed the crumpet hollandaise with salmon. The English breakfasts were also well received! I'd definitely recommend C&C for breakfast, brunch or lunch. Great food, lovely venue, and really helpful staff. Thanks everyone for making my Mum's Mother's Day perfect.

Probably the nicest cafe I've been tp. And the nicest coffee. Not cheap but well cooked food. You get what you pay for!

I’ve been here four times in total . The place is so cozy. The coffee always tastes good. Unfortunately the scones they serve are industrial and not at all Fresh when I ordered them. The cakes are very very sweet (Guinness cake, walnut n coffee cake) and I couldn’t taste anything other than the sugar. In addition the cake icing/frosting is 100% sugar for all the different cakes. Given the price (4.2£) the frosting deserves to be different! The staff are usually friendly and responsive. but the last time one of the staff was enjoying making my baby cry and didn’t stop interrupting us on the table and another member made fun of the crying of my friend’s baby! This made us very uncomfortable.

Always great service, lovely and warm staff, there with a smile making you smile. Exceptional Tiramisou Martini cocktail, Tiramoussitini- not sure I've named it right but it definitely hit all the right taste places!

The best place for food in FH and tue service is always top notch. They are also very accommodating to families!

The service was slow, the changing facilities not up to code and they overcharged us £7 in the end.

The art was excellent, as was the chicken flatbread.

I had a really good kedgeree but unfortunately my partners Turkish eggs were very basic. The flat bread was stale and barely toasted and he was served 2 poached eggs on plain yoghurt. Only when we left did he realise there was supposed to be an additional sauce as per the menu. Would have given 5 stars for my own meal but sadly he left hungry and dissapointed!

We had brunch on Saturday. Served by a man w a dark beard. We felt he barely tolerated us - a group of three w a toddler (who was very quiet and well behaved). It genuinely felt like we were an inconvenience to him. It's a shame - I have been once before and served by the blonde lady who was lovely. We probably won't go back - there is plenty of competition for brunch in Forest Hill / Sydenham. The food is good though!

I just tried to get a takeaway bacon and sausage sandwich and was told that would be £9.80! Let that sink in. The bread was £7 and the 'extras' were £2.80. I was also told I would have to put the sauce on myself. It must be expensive to keep staff serving two tables and be inconvenienced by a takeaway order.

Went here for a breakfast on a Sunday morning. I ordered the full English. It came and there was a long hair under my food. I understand this happens and kindly sent it back. When it came back out my order was wrong. They charged the full amount with zero compensation. Wouldn’t recommend, there are far nicer places for a breakfast in the area.

I have visited this cafe on several occasions and I am always welcomed with politeness abd kindness. The food, including the cakes are tasty. It is great place to meet with friends and family for any kind of occasion.

Super cute cafe in the heart of forest hill with a back garden for sunny days. Kitsch quirky decor and a comfy living room feel inside. Smoothies, juices and cakes were delicious Also got the Buddha salad, which was ok but slightly underwhelming, not much flavour. The chips were yum though, seasoned well! Aside from that though, would definitely go back!

Pancakes as a treat after hard hungry day. Except they were hardly warm, crumbled to dust, tasteless, felt like they were precooked and microwaved or bought in a pack. So disappointing. £15 later I’ve got a yuck stomach feeling. Waitress was pleasant. Cashier person was sarcastic. Unpleasant all round my first negative feedback ever

In general: - good food put small portions - friendly staff - slow service - very nice garden area I had the breakfast burrito (in photo) which was good. It cost £12 + service charge but I thought it was particularly small especially at such a high price. The burrito was also extremely light. After eating this as brunch I had to pop to the supermarket to get some more food! The service was also extremely slow and we waited a long time for the food but the server was very apologetic. I probably will not be returning

I have been here a few times before in the past and the service and food is always so good! Everything is presented with great care and both of the chefs pay great attention to detail. I ordered the royale with crumpets and hollandaise sauce and my best friend had a burger and chips. The food was divine! Our waiter was so cheerful and friendly. He was extremely attentive and came back to check that everything was okay. The environment is clean and aesthetically pleasing with a slight rustic look which makes it stand out. We opted to sit on the table with sofas this time and it was very comfortable. Overall it is a friendly restaurant and it is welcoming to all. In the past I brought my daughter here and we found it accommodating.

Went for a birthday brunch for my wife, food was quite nicely made, but not really as described and they seem to go for novelty for novelty's sake, rather than because it enhances the dish. Similar with the drinks, cocktails were twists on classics, not traditional recipes, and sort of worked, but the originals would have been nicer. Low rating was mainly due to the service, the place was half empty on a weekday lunchtime, but everyone seemed overwhelmed and disorganised so they were losing track of orders and requests. General vibe is the standard shabby chic of various repurposed junk from charity shops, some of which works, but others jsut take up space. Toilets are down a long, steep flight of stairs, so not ideal if you have mobility issues, and the entrance is almost blocked by tables which means you have to squeeze past people to get the the stairs.

This spot is perfect for catching up with friends or a place to grab a coffee and chill. It’s my 2nd time here and I highly recommend their ‘Very Berry’ smoothie and the ‘Coconut Granola Bowl’ - a big healthy portion size. Me and my friend are Deaf/Hard of Hearing and the staff were respectful, had bater with us and made us feel welcome.

I received a voucher from a friend for my birthday and took another friend, as it was also her birthday. We had a lovely meal. The staff couldn't be more pleasant and helpful and the food was really nice and very filling. Definitely a treat I will remember.

I came here with my partner and his parents for tea and cake after a walk at the horniman, and we also brought our dog with us. They were very accommodating and helpful and couldn’t do enough for us. The drinks and cakes were nice. I think it would be better if they served warm scones with the cream tea though. They have a great menu and we’ll be back for brunch soon.

We recently visited for my wife's 43rd birthday and two kids for Sunday roast with Prosecco. During the the past 10 years we have been delighted to see Canvas and Cream become a must visit for creatives, artist's, young moms or 'mums to be' and experience an authentically English country palette experience (no pun intended). Thank you to the team (Gavin & Sam) at Canvas & Cream, and thank you Forest Hill residents plus surrounding areas on preserving this secret spot for Sunday roast and cake! X FYI: hard to get in on Sundays between 1-3pm

Went for brunch with toddler grandson. Immediately offered spacious table and highchair. Good vegan full 'English' large portion size! I am always put off by people working on laptops while I am off work. Suggest designated area if you want a coffee and to work. Lovely friendly staff.

A beautiful space, much bigger than I anticipated from outside. Had a good coffee and simple, but lovely, sausage bap. Not cheap but worth paying a little more for quality food. Some spaces at the back, which I presume are used for exhibitions, private hire or group events etc.

Myself, my son and his girlfriend enjoyed an amazing brunch today, totally recommend the bubble and speak, it was settled on a ring of chilli mayo which was fabulous. Excellent customer service, great atmosphere and excellent value for money.

Lovely cafe that has been part of the fabric of Forest Hill for as long as I've known it. Good variety of food, including a lovely cake counter, friendly staff, nice vibe. Service could be quicker, and plates a little bigger, but this is definitely a place to visit. Quality is high.

I have lived in Forest Hill for nearly 40 years and never been in until I was invited to lunch on Saturday by some friends and was pleastantly suprised and quite busy the only complaints was the Cappuccino coffee was warm the toilets was down a set of steep narrow stairs and the toilets was not seperated the hand drier also was not working. Wonder how they cater for less disable persons with access to the premises?. Otherwise the food was nice but a bit pricey for what you order but I was not paying for it so I should be grateful. I will probablty never go in myself. Suprised about allowing dogs in?. I personally have no issue has my friends brought their dog 'Bella' along who I love to bits.🐕🐶🐩

Had a lovely brunch and catch-up with a friend. Service was good and the food was lovely. Highly recommend the pancakes with fruit, as they were lovely and fluffy. Perfectly filling. My friend had the full English breakfast and didn't manage to finish it. The flat white was well made and very smooth. The atmosphere was calm and you felt welcome and as though you could stay as long as you wanted. Family friendly as well

Had a meltdown after visiting the Horniman with my twins. Was welcomed in by staff, helped out and comforted with a little chat. Cannot recommend enough!

My friend and I had a fantastic brunch on a Saturday morning. The crumpet benedict royale was perfectly done and I loved this dish with crumpets instead of the usual muffins, much prefer this. Service was excellent, prices about average. Would definitely recommend.

Very pleasant Art cafe . After arriving on the off chance , was shown to a table and had good food. The menu was varied . The cappuccino was excellent I had a been there a number of times before and it always has been good.

Usually a great place for food and a catch up, but they fell massively short on food this time. Burgers were really subpar and full of whole bits of gristle, the chips were far too salty too. Wasn't enjoyable in the slightest. Service was top notch and friendly which was a saving grace.

As soon as I walked in, I was greeted by the most colourful, and wonderful flower I have seen in my whole life. When I opened my chips I WON!!!!!!!! Then, Steven He came up to me, and shouted, loudly "I LOVE YOU BOBBY" Which, made my heart melt with joy. Once, I went on the slide in the kid playground I knocked over a rubix's cube in under 1 second, not trying to even touch it! What a lovely firework display play in the end there was.

A perfectly lovely cafe with friendly staff, they do good french toast and the bubble and squeak is also tasty. Plenty of space and a nice environment.. sometimes the babies sitch can get a little irritating but what can we do, Forrest Hill is infested with paisley entitled posh young mums who like to keep immaculate kitchens at home while having low paid cafe staff runaround and clean up after their snotty kids' mess.

This place is perfect for lunch, they do amazing food, and the coffee is lovely. Staff are polite and friendly, and the service is quick. Right near the forest Hill train station I use this place often it's the best place in forest hill for lunch. they also sell beer and spirits if you fancy a liquid lunch :)

Advertised Sunday lunch online, but when we arrived we found out that it's sadly no longer available.

Quite expensive and a shame especially since they have tried to cut costs (cheap hand towels in bathroom / picnic benches indoors ) but sorry a cake shouldn’t cost £4 and a basic egg bap shouldn’t be more than £3 but it’s £6.50!! And definitely doesn’t warrant 12.5% service charge - in the day!
