Canton House harks back to an era of old school Chinese Chippies. The gravy is dark, almost black, with a very nice flavour, which gets thicker as it cools. You simply can't beat it. The food is always cooked fresh, and both the English and Chinese dishes are superb. Elle who runs it, also operates the Foodaholic Chinese takeaway in Openshaw and you can tell. The quality of the food is the same across both sites and the value for money is unbearable. Absolutely top notch.

I used to come here and dine in at lunchtime when I go shopping and have a nice lunch with my best friend. It was “our place” where we’d have a lovely lunch in a busy chippy cafe and it was £5.60 for a meal including a fizzy drink or a brew. Always loved their chips and curry and their Singapore chowmein. Whilst the chips and curry are still great the chowmein has gone downhill. The chicken isn’t nice (it used to be chunks of perfectly cooked chicken) now it’s sort of thin batons that taste cheap and old. The chowmein doesn’t taste the same. It was their signature dish and I always classed it as my absolute favourite and sadly I won’t eat it anymore. The lady who runs it at lunchtime is absolutely lovely though. The new owners need to keep the old owners recipes and serve the same standard of food that he did. I’m really sad to lose our favourite place. The cafe used to be absolutely busy and sometimes you’d have to wait for a table and now it’s half empty or fully empty. Such a shame that a once thriving and popular place has lost so much custom.

We ordered takeaway from Canton House for 10 people. We had starters, duck and mains and it was amazing. The food was hot, fresh and delicious. Everything was as we ordered and nothing had been missed. The owner couldn't have been more helpful and efficient. Perfect 10 out of 10.

Salt pepper chips was soaked in grease salt and pepper ribs was not salt and peppery also smallest ribs I've ever seen chicken green pepper in black bean sauce it was just full of onion sauce was like water and 5 small pieces of chicken and very salty i can't believe how much this place has gone down hill.

Great takeaway but the delivery is a bit pricey so don’t often use them.

Tried this place twice now! Xmas eve was told 1.5hrs wait and waited 2hrs and still nothing. Hoped it was a delivery aspect. Ordered again tonight to find when it was delivered it was stone cold!! Took it back to the shop to be confronted by a rude women who said we ate half the order and refused to refund. After much discussion she threw the money at me. Never use again and such a disgusting place

Great Food here. Showed an image of of Char Sui Pork from Tameside Takeaway Group (Facebook) and she made it especially for my Wife. Food was hot and very tasty. This place never misses a beat. Spot on every time! Well done guy's!

Xmas eve and told 1.5hrs which isn’t a problem, but then waited 2.5 hrs and still no food and to be told by the rude lady on the phone that she is too busy to deal with us!!! Total disgrace and don’t deserve the custom!!

We have been going to this Chinese for years and found out that it was under new management, we have tried it tonight and it is disgusting no chilli with the salt and pepper chicken no prawns in the special vermicelli, chips were absolutely rotten the only good thing about this Chinese is they deliver!!!!!!….. stay away and save your money!!!!…. Come back the old owners please!!!!…..

I have been coming here for 22 years. This will be my last time, salt and pepper King prawns used to be amazing now its terrible the batter on the Prawn is thick and just loads of onion what happened to small chopped chilli onion Peppers beautiful orange batter, this dish is missed. Your peas taste like you add water every time it thickens, your fish very wet batter just sat round it instead of sticking to your fish. Your portion size small and your prices are well to high. Shame

Stopped at lunchtime and loved the fact it had inside seating. Lunchtime menu has lots of choice and big portions. Super friendly staff.

I can honestly say I've never had a bad meal from here. The Salt and Pepper box is amazing!! Really nice Chinese food, great chips, good to order if you are wanting a bit and they will get it all ready for you. They only take cash. But there is a cash machine 1 second away! Its not an issue.

A very disappointing meal the chow mein was garlic flavoured not at all like chow mein. The sweet and sour pork with rice was acceptable. The mixed appetiser was totally over cooked and dry. Will not be ordering from there again. Chinese food in Denton is currently sadly very disappointing

Cash only. Was incredibly cheap for a regular chips and large sausage. Unfortunately they don't have any sauces but if you were to take this home it wouldn't be an issue. Super quick to serve and to be ready.

Just had lunch, food and service was great, ordered mostly prawn dishes but one deep fried chicken too, salt and pepper chips were solid and good portion sizes. Guy at the counter was very friendly and helpful in putting tables together for us as we had a toddler. Highly recommend

This chippy used to be one of the nicest chippies. Sadly the old owners left a few years ago. I have tried Canton House a few tines since and the quality is always missing. Shame cause the portion sizes are fantastic but not the quality

this USED to be the nicest chinese n the last twice its been dreadful ...dry dry chicken infact the meat quality needs a look at ...greasy n just funky ...im done i wont be back ....gutted as been a loyal customer for many years ...

First time ordering from this place, as it it has fairly good reviews. Firstly they missed an item, so we went back to collect it and they tried charging us again. The ok sauce tastes like vinegar and the noodles were too salty. Only take cash which is a bit dodgy especially when the order is over £20. Will not be ordering from here again

Awesome. But… they should probably expect a visit from the tax man. Don’t turn up without cash, they don’t accept any form of card payment.

I was visiting Manchester and my friend always raves about this place. So we tried it. I had the biggest portion of Salt & Pepper Prawns with Egg Fried Rice. I struggled to get more than 2/3 of the way through it all. Delicious and really very hot too. We collected it ourselves and so it was taken straight away and was being eaten within 10 minutes of seeing it boxed up. The shop was lovely and clean. We ate on a Tuesday evening, so no waiting. I'd eat there again. Reasonable prices too. Thank you Canton House!

Have used canton house many times. Ordered for my family last night January 14th a d was so so dissatisfied the ribs were terrible. The food was like warm and was very greasy. Wont be going back for a while very disappointed

Ha pasado un tiempo desde que estuve aquí y, cuando pasaba, conseguí unas patatas fritas con salsa y un panecillo de patatas fritas para un té rápido con patatas fritas. ¿Cómo podría salir mal con eso?Lo llevé a casa y tanto yo como mi esposa luchamos por comer aproximadamente la mitad de lo que nos dieron, ya que las papas fritas estaban duras, crujientes, demasiado cocidas, quemadas: elija.Literalmente tuvimos que buscar chips que fueran medio decentes y que no te rompieran los dientes.Y la magdalena era barata y nada fresca.En general, una completa pérdida de dinero y no es de extrañar que estuviera prácticamente vacío cuando en el pasado, al mismo tiempo, habría estado lleno.

Tried to order a takeaway by phone from this restaurant to celebrate our anniversary and in the middle of the order the lady said that the delivery charge would be £4 as it is 5 miles away according to google maps. I live 1.3 miles away and can walk it in 20 minutes. She then kept me holding on for 10 minutes whilst she chatted in chinese to her boss. I then told them I would go elsewhere as we were getting nowhere. She then phoned back to say that she agreed it was close by but I said we had gone to another restaurant as we were anxious to put an order in.

having ordered a takeaway on Wed 15th ,we received the food which was gorgeous by the way . However the delivery driver tried to charge an extra 1 pound on top of the agreed price upon arguing the point I gave him the price I was already charged when the food was ordered he snatched the money off me and went off in a huff. My point is if he is charging an extra pound every delivery without people realising he is being out of order everytime.

I ordered the Seaweed Combination starter for a change, unfortunately it was very disappointing. The portion size is brilliant for the price however there was zero taste. Everything was so dry and crunchy. I was trying so hard to enjoy it but I just felt exhausted after eating it. All I could taste was grease, salt and fat. BBQ ribs should be moist, sticky and fall off the bone, instead it was like eating carpet cuttings. The chips were way too greasy, they’d be sat in oil for too long. I don’t think I’ll be coming back anytime soon sadly. The extra star is for the portion sizes which they did well on.

Amazing takeaway, food is great and you get loads for your money. I like to go in at lunch time and sit in the service is great and very quick. This takeaway is worth a car ride if you don't live near by.

Went to canton house today got three fish and a portion of chips, I have never had anything as awful, batter like concrete, fish was dry and burnt, chips was burnt, will never go again.

Mamá y papá papá visitaron este chippy el 12 de junio 20 Pidieron algunos artículos atrasados esperando la comida, se lo llevaron a casa para su horror, las papas fritas estaban tan secas que no podían comerlas y pidieron pescado que estaba viscoso y gelatinoso al revés. Desde entonces, mi madre ha estado mal después de una boca llena. Mi madre no está bien de salud, esto fue un placer para ella. Ella nunca había estado en este restaurante y nunca volverá. Les llamé por teléfono y no los contestaré, pero los reportaré

Best chippy in manchester. If you want good portions with good meat, well cooked noodles, spicy items of the very good menu then look no further. Give the Singapore noodles a try. Will feed a family of 4 with a portion of chips.

Mis amigos me recomendaron esta comida cuando los visité. Así que hicieron el pedido por teléfono y fuimos a recogerlo.Estaba listo en el tiempo citado. El lugar se ve limpio mientras espera y el orden fue 100% correcto en su contenido. Teníamos todo tipo de cosas diferentes y todos nos lo tragábamos absolutamente. El mío estaba delicioso y vi que apenas hablaban mientras comían el suyo. ¡Siempre una buena señal!Tendré que ir allí de nuevo la próxima vez que los visite. Recomendado.

Solía vivir cerca de este lugar, pero ahora vivo a unos 10 kilómetros de distancia. Pero una vez al mes nos dirigimos aquí para una gran comida familiar. El personal siempre es amable y educado. Pero ten cuidado, a veces puede estar muy ocupado, pero para mí eso te da una idea de cuán popular y buena es la comida. Pruébelo usted mismo, pero no olvide que puede estar muy ocupado en las horas punta. Pero para mí creo que vale la pena esperar.

Terrible since it changed hands. Can never get an order right and the price is different every time for the same order! The new owners also have zero consideration for the surrounding residents, parking 5 or 6 cars for days and tag teaming for parking spaces and shouting conversations to each other across the street at 1am!
