Canela Cafe in Elmbridge

We stopped by for lunch during a walk along the River Thames towpath. I had the tortilla with egg and chorizo and my wife had the salmon salad. Both meals were excellent - absolutely delicious and very well presented. I’ve had breakfast here before and it was just as good. There are lots of cafes in the vicinity but IMO this one is the best for quality of the food.

Second visit here. A nicely varied menu. Today I had smoked salmon and cream cheese sandwich on brown bread with tea. Always appreciate a mug. The sandwich was lovely and well filled.

Highly recommended. Great food and friendly attentive staff. Some wonderful original artworks on the walls.

We came upon this cafe by chance after visiting Hampton Court palace where dining options are limited. We shared a smoked salmon and cream cheese ciabatta and a coronation chicken arepa followed by a slice of coffee and walnut cake. The quality of everything was excellent especially the homemade coronation chicken and the cake. The sandwich and cake were very reasonably priced but I thought the arepa was rather pricey at £11 although it tasted freshly made. I would definitely come back here when visiting the nearby palace.

Very small space, but serves a lovely strong coffee, and the food looked excellent even though we didn't eat.

We visited for breakfast on a Saturday morning. Both my wife and I had the full cooked breakfast, and were both delighted with it. Everything was cooked and seasoned to perfection, and the price for such good quality food was very reasonable compared to other local cafes. The atmosphere in the cafe is very relaxed and quiet, which makes it ideal for couples and small groups. Service was excellent too, with all the staff being really friendly and helpful.

As a halfway point on river walk n unique and quirky but really friendly cafe.Had the Arepa with spicy beans and avocado while my chum had the Arepa with spicy egg and chorizo.both excellent.Theres a lot of good cafes in East Moleey but its not surprising this is No1. Quaint cafe opposite the station, which is a convenient stop on the way to the Palace. We dropped in for a coffee and decided to treat ourself to a slice of cake as well. Firstly, the coffee was excellent - quite strong and served nice and hot. I tried the lemon drizzle cake, which was acceptable - maybe slightly on the small size. However, my wife tried the coffee and walnut cake, which although it tasted great, was a tiny slither and the end piece of the cake. To add insult, when we left, there was one generous portion left on the counter, which was obviously kept back as it looked far more appealing than what my wife was served. We felt slightly ripped off, which ruined an otherwise pleasant visit.

Had lunch here today and was so nice to have a different selection from the standard café menus - Colombian Arepas that were so delicious, and a good quality latte to go with it, and at such a great price compared to a lot of the overpriced cafes in the area. Great café, love the style of the café with friendly staff. Will definitely be back there again to try a different selection on the menu. Highly recommend it!

First time to this cafe for lunch with 2 friends. Have passed by several times. Looks very small from outside but spacious enough & cosy once inside. There is a big lovely floor mirror which brightens & makes cafe looks spacious. One friend had vegetable empanadas & she loved it. Another friend & I had chicken fajitas which was scrumptious. Very relaxed, cosy and charming cafe with some of the best cafe food locally. There is a strong Colombian influence that sets it apart, all the dishes are cooked fresh - so don't be in too much of a hurry. Though there are options for those with less time and, of course, their coffee is lovely.

My friend had read good reviews so we were both surprised to see a slightly shabby exterior but we persevered and went in. Warm welcome on a Friday lunchtime. It was pretty quiet but started to fill up not long after. Cake was pleasant enough.we had carrot cake. Waitress told us the cakes are home made. Loo wasn’t the best. Think could improve this area, along with the exterior, to attract more customers. Competition is pretty stiff around Hampton Court. However, the main courses looked delicious so we may well return! Very dog-friendly.... if you like dogs!

We had tostados con avocado with coffee and hot chocolate. The restaurant is cosy, friendly, personal, and the food all looked fantastic. Our food certainly was.

Great coffee, freshly prepared and tasty food. Just went for ciabattas (which had a great side accompaniment) but I want to try some of the mains so we will return. The brunch options look inviting, as do the cakes. Quaint and cosy decor, good value for money, friendly service, good location.

Have been here a few times now (live a few miles away). Great little place with excellent coffee and homemade cakes. The breakfasts are lovely too, having lived in Colombia I love Colombian 'twist' that comes with the cooked breakfast. Staff attentive and friendly. The only thing I would say is the menu and prices on the Facebook face are different from the menu in the cafe, as of the date of this review of course.

My Wife and I were feeling peckish and decided to re-visit Canela cafe. We had a leak and potato soup… Home made and far more interesting than a standard leak and potato soup… Really delicious. I love this cosy cafe very close to Hampton Court. The food is freshly prepared and colourful. No sad excuses for a garnish here.... my avocado on toast was accompanied by a beautiful fresh salad. Several good choices for breakfast and lunch on the menu. Gluten/dairy free food required for one of our party: no problem. Lovely atmosphere, interesting art and other curiosities on the walls, comfy couches and armchairs. Friendly service. Free wifi. I've been here twice and will come back.

My friend jumped off the train, 1 minute from cafe and we chatted for hours. The ambiance and friendly staff make it a wonderful place to sit either with friends or alone. There are also a couple of seats outside which is nice when warm.

Canela is different - you walk in and it feels like you've found somewhere unique and a bit bohemian. A cool space to relax in on Sunday morning. East Molesey is not short of great places to have breakfast or brunch and there are a number of options, but with many places you end up sharing your breakfast experience with crowds of middle aged men in lycra. At this moment Canela is the cool alternative - its quiet, serves the best coffee I've tasted in London, and the food is phenomenal - its not an extensive menu but doesnt need to be, as everything is amazing - all cooked from fresh (its not fast food so dont bother if you're in a hurry).

Looking around the area, full of coffee shops and restaurants, and saw this place on trip advisor. Food was OK, it was freshly cooked, nice taste, the flat white coffee was very nice as well although a tad strong. How can I say though for a more mature visitor it just seemed a little bit unwelcoming which is shame as we thought we had found a great little find. Guys you have the making of a great place , with great food remember smoozing customers will get you 5 points every time.

Absolutely lovely coffee shop! Love the decoration and the books you can read while you enjoy your drink. Great place to go with kids as there are colouring books and some arts and crafts materials.

We enjoyed our breakfast tremendously! The full breakfast hit the spot with the most divine potatoes and tomatoes Colombian style. Like a pub breakfast, but just that little bit different.

The food was freshly prepared with the best ingredients and with love. It was full of subtle flavours which all came together to create a feast for the tastebuds. We were looking for a quick sandwich on a hot May Bank Holiday Monday and stumbled across Canela - we had originally sat down at somewhere on the more buzzing strip of cafes/restaurants behind Canela but they had a 30 min wait for food so we moved on..... A lovely attentive waitress and a varied but not too extensive menu. We had 2 x 375 ml Bundaberg ginger beers, a delicious brie, bacon and onion chutney sandwich and ciabatta with sausage and onion - all for just over £ 13..... Somewhere to return to again, perhaps in the evening to try some of their Colombian (?) specialities.

This Colombian fusion style cafe offers a nice atmosphere to enjoy freshly prepared tasty food and delicious coffee. Subtle jazz music plays in the background and occasionally, live piano.

We dropped in after looking around the area for a chilled out, low key place to while away an hour or so; exhausted after the palace and Bushy Park. Canela was perfect. Great value, amazing quality and an oasis amongst the busy locale. We had the most amazing prawn and avocado ciabatta alongside a mozzarella and tomato sandwich, with a massive pot of tea

A friend and I went for lunch there and from the moment we walked in the atmosphere was welcoming. The menu was great and the soup I had was homemade and absolutely delicious. My friend had the avocado and feta cheese 'all day breakfast' and she was very impressed with that. The staff were very friendly. It has a very small frontage opposite Hampton Court Station but it is very roomy inside. We will definitely go back.

I’ve been using Canela for some months now and it’s become a firm favourite. This is no small praise in a place like East Molesey, which has an enviable choice of places to eat and drink. It’s equally good if you just want a good Columbian coffee and a cake or a satisfying and flavoursome lunch.

First visit to this delightful Columbian cafe. Warm welcome on arrival and whilst looking at the menu heard a gentleman exclaiming ‘thank you so much, that was the best breakfast I have had out ever’. That made me beam. I chose Tostado Con Avocado made with feta, sun dried tomatoes and walnuts. Delightfully presented with care and attention. Generous portion, beautifully seasoned and a delight to each. Not surprisingly, the coffee was Columbian and served to perfection. Will definitely be coming again and bringing my friends!
