Lovely location and the food was excellent although a little expensive for what we had. Couldn't get my dad inside as it was busy and he had a wheelchair which was a shame as it was cold outside. Beautiful setting to people watch

You will not be disappointed in the lovely canal side setting and the choice of snacks available here . seating is plentiful IF weather suitable for outdoors in addition to main inside area [ inside can be a little dark so we personally prefer out of doors !] Plentiful safe racks for cycle parking within easy view of cafe.

Popped in here for a coffee and a cake. Was warmly welcomed and had the best coffee we've had for months. Also had 2 excellent homemade cakes. A really good cafe.

Had a very pleasant visit, even though the cafe was really busy, the staff were friendly and helpful, and we liked the continental feel of the place. Would definitely recommend

Sadly having visited the canal cafe recently I was very disappointed. It felt like a bus station cafe, it was basic on every level, the place is shabby and tired. Nice location, but poor standards. Not a place I would recommend or go back to.The only thing that was good about the place was the gentleman called Paul who served us, at least he was polite, friendly and chatty.

To the Manager, we've experienced a couple of really nice visits. Serving "Origin" coffee which is excellent, the friendly gentleman that normally works there and being dog friendly won us over from the other offerings on the quay. But today was not so good. On a sunny Sunday in July all the other coffee shops were full except yours. Why? Well we found out after ordering. There were no outside tables set up so you looked closed which suited the 2 waitresses so they could continue to smoke and chat on their phones. Blowing cigarette smoke over your only customers is not,I would guess, normally acceptable in the catering trade. As I said:Disappointing.

Unbelieveably slow servive (waited about 45 mins for a couple of sandwiches), totally disorganised, pathetically poor and unimaginative choice of sandwich/roll fillings, mediocre staff, zombie waitress. If they're 'busy' (bearing in mind there are only a few tables anyway) they are happy to downgrade what you get without even mentioning it (ham sandwich for £4.95 was 2 bits of sliced white bread with 1 slice of cheapo reformed ham - that's it, no butter, garnish or anything, would have taken about 10 seconds to make). The inside area is dismal and feels like a toilet annex with sofas. Strangely the coffee was great. They would fail within weeks in another location. I should say they did refund part of the bill when I complained, but that did not make up for the experience.

Awful service. Dirty cutlery. Tea tasted fishy. Inside seating area was grotty with loo door wide open, vaccum cleaner was stored next to our table. Took 20 minutes after ordering to be told one of the items was not on the menu. When food did arrive.... Hot crumpets were cold yet burnt. Ham and cheese toastie was disgusting (how something so simple can be so wrong beats me!). 'Salad' was from a bag from the co op. Scone arrived toasted like a teacake. When we complained we then received a presumably defrosted and steaming soggy scone.!! Dirty looking staff. A very disappointing experience. The sort of thing that puts you off eating out. Oh and it smelt funny too.

I love this little gem! I stumbled accross it when walking my dog (in the pooring rain!) love the blankets, and dog treats! The food and drink are made fresh, the staff are always chatty. The vibe here is somehow both relaxed and busy!? But I now take my family there ... the kids love the shakes and my parents love the food ... win win situation!!Dont listen to the bad reviews, take a look for yourself!

Really disappointed with my visit today, particularly since I had sought this place out after a great visit in 2013. Lowlights included high prices, inaccurate menu ("sliced chicken breast" = wafer thin reformed chicken roll from the supermarket), weak coffee and very dry / tasteless cake. Additionally, the toilet was dirty and had a broken seat (duh, call a plumber). The integrated bike shop had no staff, limited stock and seems to be shutting down.I will not be returning.

We ordered milkshakes, chocolate brownies and cheese on toast. The milkshakes were a bit thin, loads of cream from a can, tasted a lot of sugar and chemicals, nothing to write home about. The cheese on toast wasn't very hot, the toast was soggy and hardly toasted. The chocolate brownie was dry and hard. With only six tables, and a numbered spoon system to put on your table, it still wasn't possible for staff to see or remember which table had ordered what, so every order was accompanied by staff shouting what it was. The food and the place seemed clean and safe, (though I hope their hygiene practices have improved since their rating last year).I won't be rushing back, sorry.

I'm usually not very critical in my reviews but there were several things that made my experience at this cafe unpleasant. Today was my 2nd visit, because my friend wanted to go. I had a negative impression of the cafe from the 1st visit, when I was served pain scones instead of apple scones as I had ordered.Upon arrival, we had a cold greeting by one staff. We ordered full british tea, and we were having a chat...for an unusually long time. Other customers who arrived later than us were served and we were left wondering whether they'd forgotten our order. It was not until about 40 minutes wait that our food came. The tea was good, very pretty presentation. Also, the milk machine (?) made a loud noise very frequently ruined the atmosphere.Next time, I'll go to another cafe around the quay... :(

We chose this cafe based on Trip Advisor reviews and walked some distance to find it. The cafe is on the banks of the canal and beautifully situated. We arrived on a sunny morning hoping for a cream tea and some other cakes and drinks. When we went inside to order we took a look at the cakes and scones and were underwhelmed to say the least. The scones looked very unappetising and so we decided against the cream tea and opted for coffees, a chocolate krispie cake (chosen by the kids) and a slice of coffee cake (which I thought was the only decent looking cake on the counter). The drinks and cakes arrived quickly. The coffee seemed to be a fairly dark roast and had a pretty bit of latte art on it showing some skill from the barista. The kids had babychinos - which at 50p each was a good price. The coffee cake was moist, although not particularly well coffee flavoured and rather on the small side! The staff seemed lovely and were working hard. The lunches going to other tables looked lovely.A nice added touch were the blankets for those who wanted to keep warm and the kids toys/easel in the corner. All in all the setting of this little cafe is lovely, the service is good and the coffee is okay if you like a dark roast. I wouldn't come back here if I wanted cake!

Great location and pit stop for a coffee and slice of cake. If you are riding a bike even better, there is a bike shop attached to the coffee shop if in need of supplies or help with anything. Some fabulous bikes to choose from to Hire as well. Staff nice and friendly and served to you outside. Inside seating also available as well.

Went for Sunday lunch. Waiting staff were good and helpful. Can't say the same about the meal, Tastless pork. Undercooked potatoes. Insipid gravy. Really was not an acceptable standard. Wont be going again. Can do better at home.

AVOID AT ALL COST - if you want food After booking a table for 4 on Monday 22nd Aug for brunch we arrived to be told sorry, the waitress had sent back the wrong card machine and they were closed. We rebooked for Tuesday 23rd Aug arrived again after parking in town for 2 days, to be told, sorry we have no water today. We have closed the kitchen. You can imagine my disappointment 2 days on the trott, what a way to run a business. The manager was basically saying tough there is nothing I can do about it. Terrible attitude rude and no help what so ever. Good luck if you go for food.

Very average coffee at a very high price! Poor snack choices and nothing for vegans! Worst of all, they don’t take cash, as if they were trying to usher in the New World Order or keep out the poorest in society. I won’t be coming back.
