Grubby chairs,;; dirty floor; dirty, sticky tables

It was the first time that I have visited Cafe Nero. The tables were not particularly clean, furniture looked a bit tired and shabby. One member of staff was complaining loudly while I was waiting for my coffee (behind a customer’s back) that she had been asked politely to wipe a table because it was wet. She then moaned again because another customer had moved a chair so that his family could sit together. I asked for a Latte. It was extremely strong, had barely any milk in it and was more like an Americano. The atmosphere wasn’t especially warm and friendly. I will stick to Costa in future.

Ordered a tea (with student discount), was a bit disappointed that the tea didn't come in a tea pot, but the mug it was in was quite large the size or bigger then the teapot would have been, so I can't really complain. I really didn't like the tea itself either, which was a big shame, but ultimately I came here for a place to revise, and the building itself is beautiful, the lighting is cozy, and the staff were lovely, especially as I was ordering at half 7! I really suggest using the app, as by ordering this tea, my next drink is free, so I might go for one of there fancier drinks, which I have heard great things about!

Always like a Chai Latte from Nero but didn't enjoy the blazing row a member of staff had with a customer in front of everyone at about 11.30am.

Delicious cake and average coffee. Lovely, warm atmosphere with friendly staff.

Ordered a large hot chocolate which was very nice. Toilets are available if you ask staff for the key.

5pm coffee to end the day Sat inside, a dog that was carried in arms of owners approached the counter where food displayed. Dog then allowed to sit on leather furniture. Told dogs are welcome in well behaved etc. I love a dog but not near food and certainly not on furniture. Hope it was cleaned afterwards !!! I have a dog whom adore but am responsible with him.

Good coffee but that’s all. Dirty tables, ripped chairs, smashed door on entry to the coffee shop. Poor customer service, staff member taking order barely acknowledged we were there. Very slow preparing drinks, cold by the time we came to sit down and drink.

Not my cup of tea. Chain cafes are soulless, cafe Nero seem the dullest of all. Staff are fine, product inadequate, atmosphere dreary not overly community based, dull

The cafe is dirty and messy, that’s not a appropriate way to run a business.

Classy and comfortable with well trained staff and delicious drinks, but the cakes are pretty basic and a bit pricey. Otherwise nice enough if you can get a table :)

Came here to do Uni work and stay out of the rain! Coffee was lovely and I thoroughly enjoyed their cappuccino. However, the staff were rude and unwelcoming. They didn’t say hello or goodbye (even after I had said goodbye) and made me feel very unwelcome. I felt quite awkward and uncomfortable, lacking professionalism.

Tried the new cherry iced coffee didn't taste of cherry at all. Plus staff should know not to stare at customers after they have paid!

Could do with a MAJOR clean. Glass panels to unit hosting crisps etc is covered in dirty fingerprints. Definitely hasn’t been cleaned as we arrived for coffee not long after they opened this morning. Table we sat at was sticky. Bannisters leading down to toilets was sticky. Entire place is yucky. Only giving this 2 stars as coffee was okay.

Visited Caffe Nero in Exeter & was impressed with how professional the young members of staff were. Very pleasant, courteous & gave a warm welcome, which is refreshing given that some of their peers behave so differently. Had a hot tea & latte (no naughty cakes today 😏) as needed to warm up. Venue has a cosy feel & toilets clean. Well done to the 2 assistants who worked well together & did their jobs to the highest standard, a credit to your employers (hope you get a pay rise soon).

I go in here SO MUCH. Won't be returning after the service today Left crying. Usually, love coming here. Never seen the barista before, hopefully she isn't new staff!

Called in with friends this morning to have coffee and cake. We were totally ignored by the guy who was preparing drinks and had his back to us with not even an acknowledgment of our presence, even though he had seen us walk up to the counter. There was also one female there who clocked us but also chose to ignore us, walking up and down and even continued to load and unload the dishwasher. HELLO! Whatever happened to common courtesy and manners? It doesn’t take much to greet your customers and tell them that you won’t be long. The guy who came in behind us walked out in disgust as they totally ignored him too. We eventually got served (no apology though) and coffee etc nice but dirty tables too.

Lovely coffee but disorganised, slow and didn't seem to have any management. I've frequented this Neros many times and unfortunately it was probably the worst occasion. Several tables were left uncleared and piled high with cups etc.

9am, just arrived in Exeter. We needed a place to have a Coffee and walked by Cafe Nero on Queen Street. Smiley staff, small section of food, but we only wanted Coffee and a pastry each. Cortado and Americano were up to their usual high standard, but by golly, the place was a disgrace. Dirty and heavily stained armchairs, dirty Toilet facilities in the basement and when we looked at the Countertop, saw crumbs, seeds and other food bits...... they had been there a number of days, judging from the dust. Cafe Nero should be ashamed of the cleanliness of all areas and the cloth armchairs were a disgrace. The place needs a good clean and new furniture.

Great coffee as usual, better than Costa by a mile. Had the best window seat with comfy chairs and a pastry. The toilet let's the place down - toilet seat broken, toilet roll holder gaffered up, thick dust around extractor fan. A bit picky of me? Well maybe, but actually all easily fixed so make the effort!

It can be busy depending on the time you visit. Staff always friendly and helpful and coffee delicious!

I went to Nero Exeter High Street for the first time yesterday with special elderly people visiting from South Africa. As you enter the store it says "Join our app to day and receive 5 free stamps and a free coffee". I downloaded the APP and before ordering I told the person at the counter that I had downloaded the app, and what was the next step, his reply was its complicated because of all the rules, rang up my stuff and asked me to pay. I duly did this thinking he was then going to assist me with my app, he then walked out from behind the counter and out the door, and another lady finished my coffees. When I asked her she told me it is too late to assist me because i had already paid, and when I come next time she can help me. There will NEVER be a next time. Her and the other 2 ladies behind the counter made me feel stupid and humiliated as they all looked at each other while I was asking them why no one could assist me now as I had requested before placing my coffee order. The tables were so dirty that I wiped them down with my scarf before we ate. To top it off, as we were finishing our food a lady in a wheel chair entered the shop, and it was so full, yet no one acknowledged her or tried to even assist. We then moved chairs for her to pass and gave up our table for her so she could enjoy her coffee. This is my worst UK experience to date!!!! 15/12 2022

Good coffee here. It has a depth of flavour which you don't find, in the same way, in other coffees.

Very busy. Obviously short staffed Some customers caused a scene as they wanted the flat out staff to rush their orders. Otherwise not too bad an experience. 1 star off as my first choice drink was not available at the time.

The cake was tasteless, the coffee was too hot and the milk was burnt. Place was extremely noise and dirty. Waited 20 minutes to be served.

The staff were on a go slow. We waited 20mins to be served in the queue. Then wr had no choc sprinkles and no cream. But the drinks tasted good!

Had to wait 10 minutes to order, so slow and was given takeaway cups when we where sitting inside the place is a mess and not clean and tables cluttered with old cups… we will never come here again

The two trainees Baristas are great. Nice and friendly. Great cappuccino. Toilet is clean. The place is clean and we'll maintained. Great places i recommend it

Not a good Neros, shame because I always head for it. Very dirty tatty didn't want to sit down as it was so bad.

This business has wasted my time and effort today advertising a 'magic bag' that didn't exist. Bought and paid for in advance. Don't advertise stuff if it's not there. Long trek after work in opposite direction to home for nothing. Bad practice, lost customer, telling lots of others about their bad experience at this Exeter store. 👎🏻

What a disappointment, store was dirty, table sticky, our server said we had to have a takeaway cup because he didn't want to wash up and the toilets hadn't been cleaned all week 🤔

Dirty tables cleanliness is non apparent. Service sullen . Coffee was fine but we felt room for improvement as covid still around can't see the point of sanitiser at the sugar tray when tables were filthy . Not be returning here

Terrible service. Lady serving just would not listen to what I actually wanted, instead of pushing what she wanted to serve me…apparently it ‘wasn’t the Nero way’!? No such problems at the Nero near the station…suggest you go there instead.

Honestly not a really nice place, first waited for a long time while the workers were just walking around, taking their time. I ordered a cortado and iced coconut late. The cortado milk was burnt, and in the iced late instead of coconut milk as requested I got normal milk. Bad service in general.

The place is almost always understaffed, so one needs to wait—or maybe I just always went the wrong time. The downstairs seating is always busy, but upstairs is always nice and empty.

Delicious flat white coffees served by friendly and efficient baristas. However, they really needed some help with clearing and cleaning tables between customers. To be fair, it may well be that we were there at just the wrong time and that additional staff came on duty after we left. We certainly enjoyed our coffees and the comfortable chairs in the window, watching the world go by outside.

There are two Caffe Nero shops in Exeter. One in Queen Street and one at 70/71 High Street. The photo at the top of this entry is of the Queen Street shop, but the address is given as 70/71 High Street. The shop in Queen Street, as in the pic above, is fantastic, with friendly staff and a very quick service. The other shop at 70/71 High Street leaves a lot to be desired with slow, sloppy service

You take your pick. Plenty of choices and they are all much the same. The simple rule is to peep inside and check if there is a queue and a spare table ..If not try a competitor

Best coffee shop chain tried so far.

Three of us went in for a morning coffee - the first thing we noticed was the door mat just inside the entrance was filthy dirty. We are aware that Caffè Nero coffee is very good and we weren’t disappointed. However, we went to a table only to find it was dirty, had crumbs on it and clearly hadn’t been wiped down or sanitised. Fortunately we had antimicrobial hand wipes with us which we used to wipe and sanitise the table. We don’t expect to have to do this and not everyone would be equipped for that task. At the time the cafe was not particularly busy. We won’t visit that branch again.

I enjoyed my visit to Nero in Exeter, the staff are always cheerful and quick to serve you. They make the effort to say goodbye when you leave which is nice. Coffee was excellent as usual

Favourite coffee house in Exeter. Great tasting coffee and the pastries are crisp, delicate and full of flavour.

Went in, decided what we wanted, someone else came in and the 2 people behind the counter both asked her what she wanted. The moral of the story is, don't become older than 40. We made the grave mistake of being over 60!

Dirty and messy, not a lot on offer

Came in and ordered two flat whites on a Sunday afternoon, and can honestly say I've not had a bad flat white like that for a while. There was barely any frothy milk on top, and drank like a white americano. Had a very bitter taste almost like it was burnt. The table we sat on was dirty and had dried food on it like it hadn't been cleaned for the entire day. My stomach also hurt for hours after drinking the coffee.

Super friendly, welcoming staff and coffee was good as always! I still remain surprised why the app gives me a discount every time!

Rude lady behind counter no customer service experience

Very disappointed. For the last couple of days specialy in mornings the shop is closed at 9am. Thursday shop was open around 10:30am. This morning 9:05am we standing outside the shop barista is looking at us like nothing happened. Dont know what is going on what technical issues u guys have but would be nice to be open on time

A quick and nice place to get a drink, I wouldn't sit outside on a busy day though because it can get very noisy with all the traffic. If you need the toilet you will have to ask for the key as there aren't any public toilets, just a disabled toilet.

Great coffee, well spread out eating area to avoid infection. Good ventilation also noticed and appreciated on a hot day.

The service was very speedy. Coffee and juice were very welcome. A real shame the bathroom wasn't open. I went to the Guildhall shopping centre instead and shopped at Superdrug on my way home

Coffee is the usual Nero quality; however, there was absolutely no regard for effective IPC - no sanitisation of the Radar key (w.c.) which was passed around multiple customers.

Excellent service and atmosphere for a post nightshift coffee with colleagues.
