We went at a very quiet time on a Sunday so had the reduced menu. We were quick to make our order however they were very slow with food and drinks. The waitress was unsure of the menu and what the meals consisted of, when she asked a colleague, they were rude and dismissive. When we were waiting, we were asked what we were waiting for? Understand being forgotten about on a busy night but it was just us and one other table. The coke was flat, the spoon was dirty. The haddock and mash was OK but didn’t make up for the slow and rude service. Overpriced. One waitress recommended to another customer to use Just Eat and we wish we did too.

My family and I have been to the Ipswich Hotel for the past few years and have always been impressed with the quality of food and service. However, this year was not as good. We arrived and were told where our table was. Usually a waitress/waiter takes our drinks order but this year we had to go to the bar for our drinks and the bar did not have everything we wanted. Five of our party were late and were the ones having a starter. Our waitress brought the starters out when they had not arrived and had to take them back to the kitchen. It was clear the restaurant was short staffed and they were doing as best they could. The food was average. The turkey was just a rolled breast joint. I appreciate that the restaurant wasn’t full so probably didn’t require a lot of staff as it wasn’t cost effective and likewise with the food. As we left no one was waiting to say goodbye or take the tip that was left. It was given to a member of staff in a room near the kitchen. Although it didn’t spoil our enjoyment, it was disappointing.

Stayed at this hotel for one night after watching The Elvis Show. Have to say what lovely helpful staff, the mangers name was Kate what a loverly person she was asking me wether everything was ok all the time. The room was Excellent very clean and very comfortable.I’ve stayed in rooms at £200 a night which wasn’t as good as this. And The Buffet breakfast the next day was probably the best I’ve had for years very hot, lovely clean restaurant couldn’t do enough for you. I’ve seen a couple of not so good comments on here which I cannot understand it makes me wonder what people are really looking for I think they’re very picky.I would well recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Ipswich or surrounding area and I will definitely be booking there again in the future.

The restaurant is in the Best Western Ipswich Hotel. Recommend; 10oz ribeye steak, salmon fillet and for dessert, classic lemon posset. The staff are very pleasant and helpful. The menu covered a good choice and the prices are very competitive and the food was great. The only thing that lets them down is the old decor...the ceiling looks and smells like it has been up since the late 70's. It also could do with being air conditioned.

I've been here several times with family. The Sunday roast carvery is lovely and great value. You can get a 3 course meal for just £16 each. The waiting staff are always friendly and efficient even when it is really busy. The atmosphere is nice and peaceful too.

My mother-in-law celebrated her 90th birthday here with a lunch party for 95 people. Kate and her team at the restaurant were extremely accommodating both prior to the event and on the day providing a superb 2 course meal (with 3 choices) plus tea/coffee & mints. Portions were generous, nicely presented and tasty. Lovely white linen cloths and napkins. Super service with plenty of staff to cope with the number of people. No time limit on the use of the room and we were able to make use of the rear garden before and afterwards. Yes, the decor is a bit dated but the refurbishment is in hand. Thank you to all involved.

Great place to visit for a good quality Sunday Lunch. We had three courses and the menu changes with the seasons. The chef and staff can not do enough for you and cater excellently for people with food allergy's. We visited yesterday with 4 children (ages 1-9) and the menu is suitable for young and old. Especially love coming here in the summer to enjoy the walled garden in the sunshine. My go to place for a Carvery in Ipswich.

Chose this place based on the menu on their website, but when we arrived we were given a different version. The menu was just a printed A4 piece of paper, not in a presentation folder. Many items they said they had ran out of. No sign of chunky chips, just regular slim oven chips. When we arrived no staff greeted us and there were no waiting staff. Finally bar staff came in to see us. A very slow service and wait between courses. Then, at approximately 10pm, staff brought breakfast cereals etc out ready for the morning. We took that as a sign that they wanted us to leave.

Breakfast was excellent great choice nicely served and comfortable dining area. In the bar the young lady serving kindly switched the TV from Sky News to Sky Sports so that I could watch my beloved Arsenal. The room was large and airy and the bed firm and comfortable what more could one want from a bed and breakfast we met a very friendly cat near the beautiful fish pond

I had the carvery which had limp, dry vegetables and skin had formed on the gravy and sauce. The waitress was seen eating food as she walked across the restaurant. You can chose to eat from the menu instead of the carvery, but there was nothing light and healthy on the menu.

The bar furnishings are becoming rather shabby and the bar runs out of the one ale available even though they were pre-warned. The room was ok but could have been cleaned a little better. Free WiFi is available.

Before the concert we had a meal in the Bar area and the food was very nice. The decor and furniture are a bit dated but the staff are friendly and efficient. The hotel element seems to cater for builders working locally and the like judging by the number of white vans in the Car Park. Whilst queueing for the Nathan Carter concert, which was absolutely brilliant, a large rat ran past us in the Car Park which caused a bit of a stir amongst the large number of people waiting for the concert.

After reading a few earlier reviews, I was not expecting great things.....How wrong can I be? I was greeted well at reception, the room was clean. I attended an evening family function where the drinks were not excessively priced. And the breakfast was of a good standard, and the service was very good. For £55 bed and breakfast you can't go far wrong.....

After moving our networking breakfast to the Cameo we decided we should move our monthly lunch here too. After the appalling service received at another international chain hotel locally, it has been the right move. Service and food are excellent. Our member reviews of the food have shown complete satisfaction with the lunch food, something we never had before. The food is freshly cooked, piping hot, good quality....and there is so much of it. On top of that, the staff are incredibly helpful and kind. The catering for our members with special dietary needs is second to none.......and the staff recently gave me a birthday card.

The Cameo Hotel is an aging hotel on the old A12 a couple of miles south of Ipswich. I guess in its heyday it offered motel style accommodation to business customers. But now it finds itself on what must be the quietest dual carriageway in England. It's variously described elsewhere on tripadvisor as 'dated', 'tired' and 'in need of refurbishment'.I'd say it is quaint and slightly retro. It has lots of character, unlike the sameness of the big hotel chains. It seems to have risen to the challenge of staying in business by catering for the conference market - there are several extensions of various vintages around the original building. We specifically went for a 'Fawlty Towers' evening on 13 Dec 2014 - and had a really great time. REALLY GREAT. We left well fed, well watered, and royally entertained. There were 12 tables each seating 8 or 9. A set menu of soup/chicken/cheesecake was served in a timely fashion. The food was homely and satisfying. Not haute cuisine - but the evening wasn't about fine dining. The entertainment was old fashioned slapstick comedy based on the Basil, Manuel and Sybil characters and scenes from the Fawlty Towers TV show. I'd strongly recommend not going to this show unless you are prepared to leave your inhibitions at home and going with the flow. Our party was seated with two couples we'd never met before - but we quickly got into the spirit of the evening and we all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves... sing-along; best Manuel impersonation competition, rats on the loose etc.We didn't stay overnight, so can't comment on the quality of the accomodaton, but the service, the cleanliness of the dining room, bar, reception and loos, and the helpfulness and attitude of the staff were all excellent.

This is regular pub food fayre, and to be honest it's good value stuff. So long as you're not expecting anything spectacular here you'll get exactly what you'd expect, regular pub type grub, sensibly priced and nicely presented.Had worse and better service, and if you are staying here I think it will be a good first choice.

Can't say that I was impressed with the service. We should have had teas and coffees provided. Often had to chase for them, a tray of biscuits had been out for a while had gone soft. Surely a conference meeting venue wouldn't have too much difficulty keeping them topped up and fresh.

Had been given a present of afternoon tea for 2 with Pimms -- Booked for 4pm --arrived a little early but were made very welcome and given a choice of where to sit --either in the restaurant or the bar-- As the hotel was not very busy we chose the bar -- offered tea or coffee and also asked when we would like the Pimms-- Soon afterwards the selection of sandwiches and cakes arrived completed with warm scones and jam and fresh cream-- all very good--- A top up of the tea pot was also offered when we required it-- The staff were all really nice -- The hotel was a typical product of 1960's construction but you couldn't blame that on those that worked there -We enjoyed ourselves on a little trip out on a wet and windy Sunday afternoon

my mum and step dad went for afternoon tea here lastweek using a groupon voucher which cost £15,It was horrid, the sandwiches had different fillings but one contained beef which was just gristle, not even a round of sandwiches . the scones were rock hard which looked like they were from a packet from tesco, not homemade, the cakes if you can call them cakes were slices like you get from iceland, cheap taste of nothing. they complained throughout and were told they couldnt get a refund,my mum was in tears as it was suppose to be a nice treat after coming out of hospital, but even with it being an offer it still was not worth it,they were the only 2 there so makes you wonder, they offered them to come back sunday for a free carvery but mum said no way,if you cant get simple sandwiches and cake right theres no way she is gonna eat a carvery and will never come back.

After having a groupon afternoon tea in the summer which I thoroughly enjoyed, 10 of us went back yesterday for another. The staff were so kind and helpful - our group included a 92 year old and 4 under 5 year olds! The tea most certainly wasn't weak and we could have as much as we wanted. The cakes were delicious and the sandwiches adequate, none of us had eaten lunch and not all of the sandwiches were eaten. Afterward the lovely waitress packed the leftover cakes for us. It was a birthday celebration and the owner had added a couple of extra touches for us. I would not hesitate to recommend this and am surprised at some of the other reviews.

This review relates only to afternoon tea booked through Groupon. We arrived slightly early and shown to our table which looked out to the gardens, shame it was drizzly outside. There was a 2 other people enjoying afternoon tea however one table sitting there not cleared for the entire time we were there. We seemed to wait ages for the stand to arrive. We were offered Pimms as that was part of the deal but when my friend asked for tea she was just brought a pot of English breakfast tea. Now I have been to afternoon tea before and you are usually offered an array of teas including fruit, assam, earl grey, white, green etc...........not at this place you weren't! Surely that is the whole point of afternoon tea???The stand came with 6 very small fingers of sandwiches; beef, cheese and cucumber and salmon. There were 2 fruit scones which was were slightly warm and some strawberry jam along with a pot of cream that my friend told me was not clotted cream (I dont eat cream so couldn't confirm this). There were also 4 muffins which was a bit heavy on top of the scone so we took them home. I would have preferred to have been given some small cakes rather than 4 big muffins. It was just 'ok' nothing spectacular and we arrived and left within the space of 30 minutes.

We stayed overnight and ate in one of the side rooms as there was a wedding going on, but our waitresses were really helpful and friendly and the food was terrific, way to much couldn't eat it all but it was faultless, I had the chicken with mango to start and the other half had the soup which stayed hot the whole time, I then had the rib eye and he had the beef lasagne which was on special and neither of us could eat it all as we had pigged out with the tasty starter, great value for money and beautifully cooked. Noticed it was part of the taste card scheme as well, so will definatly make another trip there at some time. The room we had was fine, clean and comfortable and plenty of milk to make the tea/coffee.Didn't get to try the breakfast as we were still full up from our dinner :-(

We celebrated my sisters 50th birthday here ! We had the private function room upstairs which has recently been refurbished and it was lovely. We were allowed in early to decorate with banners and balloons. Baring in mind we were a large group and all opted for three courses the food was still all served together so we had no one waiting, the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. We couldn't fault it all :) A few of the family stayed and were extremely happy with rooms and the yummy breakfast :)

Requested a twin room but arrived to be shown into a double. Couldn't be changed until the following day apparently! Went down for breakfast on Saturday morning at about 8:30 (breakfast served from 8 - 10). No staff apart from the cleaner. She kindly tried to provide some tea, milk and cereals - and bread. So we made do without a cooked breakfast (included in the rate we paid). At about 9:10 a young lady appeared who offered us a cooked breakfast just as we were about to leave the restaurant. No apology. No kitchen staff. Just awful. I did get an apology from the General Manager later that day and Sunday morning breakfast was fine. Certainly won't use this hotel again.
