Chez Amelie Café at the Cambridge Cookery School was recommended to my wife and me as a low-key but high quality place for brunch when visiting Cambridge. Only a short walk from the train station, the food, coffee, and relaxed atmosphere made the walk worthwhile. We opted for Turkish eggs which came with toasted sourdough (the waiter enthusiastically brought more sourdough at our request). Amazing value at just over a tenner each for the food and a coffee

Cycled 5 miles to this cafe today only to be told they don't take cash. Wow why not? Nice outdoor seating area but biscuits and cakes on display looked poor. And it seemed expensive for what you get. Wouldn't bother again.

This is the second time one of our children has completed the DofE residential cookery course. Tine and her colleagues are so welcoming and warm. They really engage with the young people and offer a very informative and useful week with so much food!! They learn to cook many diferent meals, snacks, desserts, and come home with a large cookery book full of recipes. The evening activities were fun and the acomodation was en suite. We were welcomed on the last day to a very tasty meal cooked by the students Very good

We got a gourmet takeaway to support a local business. The price point is ridiculous. £8 for a chocolate mousse the size of a small satsuma or for a small portion of pate with no bread. The food itself was tasty, but felt very taken advantage of (£22 for 2 tiny portions or £30 for 3 courses). Will not be ordering again.

Lovely staff and great courses Both my son (12) and I have attended cookery courses here at different times - always brilliant The salmon salad was also lovely whilst I waited for the gelato class my son attended to finish 😊

Just wow! We booked a gourmet takeaway dinner which are currently available due to the restrictions that are in place. It was such a treat to eat quality, gourmet food on a nice sunny evening in our garden. We enjoyed dessert on our favourite Swedish plates in honour of the talented Swedish cook! Great to hear that the bistro is open for takeaways throughout the day and hope to restart restaurant dining when the restrictions are lifted. Thank you for a wonderful dinner x

Been there twice since Mark Poynton (of Alimentum) started cooking there on a Friday and Saturday night. It is great to have the chance to eat Mark’s food again and to see him cook every dish too! We had the Saturday five course tasting menu on our first trip and every dish was delicious. Flavours were deep but the dishes were never heavy so the overall balance of courses was just right. We particularly loved the sea bream with chickpeas and olives. The atmosphere was very relaxed and friendly, and service was excellent. The wine list is short but well put together; we had a great bottle of white Rhône. We then went back on a Friday evening to try out the three course a la carte menu - equally good!

I have eaten here a number of times and usually it is good but today was disappointed as there was so little choice even at 2 o clock. They said the soup had finished, so I rye bread and my friend had cake. An hour later when we finished two people say down and were served the soup we had previously asked for- not sure we were not allowed to have it. The other comment I would make is the environment of the cafe is extremely noisy, to extent that it is difficult to talk. Disappointed in this occasion.

Met friends for lunch. I anticipated that the cafe would have an interesting and diverse menu because it is also a cookery school and the décor is fresh and minimal. The cheese and tomato on thick bread like the type you might get in a school (not focaccia) cut into squares is not Margherita pizza as they described, but they were still asking £9.50 for it. Supermarkets do a similar version but at least they just call it cheese and tomato on bread. The quiche had run out as had most of the menu which was uninteresting (eggs or avocado on toast, though the eggs were well cooked). The rhubarb tart looked hopeful but lacked the right level of sugar. Apple juice was £1.90 for a very small glass. This is a really peculiar place. The look of the place promises so much but it is let down by the staff give the impression they are being disturbed from something more important and the menu is unimpressive and expensive for what it is. The website focusses on their sour dough bread so why not promote that by making it available on the tables.

Found this by browsing Google Maps for somewhere to eat close to where we were staying on a Cambridge visit with friends. And wow, what a find. Having read everything from all the links on line, the real thing was even better! The best brunch I’ve ever had, and our goody friends were also blown away! Small and unpretentious it may be ... but everything they do , they do to perfection. I had the Swedish platter ... and every element on it was delicious and beautifully presented. As were the Sourdough combinations the rest of our group of four chose. Even had a cake each after... because we just didn’t want to miss out - they looked soooo scrumy... and they were!!! Fantastic place for fabulous food and really lovely, friendly staff. Can’t wait to go back!

We have been coming to this cafe for quite a while-it is absolutely fantastic. The food is always delicious and the staff are always welcoming and friendly. It also welcomes dogs, which is a real bonus as many of the cafes in Cambridge do not. Today I had to come into town early so had the most amazing porridge dish with poached fruit-so simple but utterly divine!! The coffee is great too.

We hadn't eaten there before and took one of our sons for brunch. The food was nice and fresh but very expensive for what it was: there are many, many restaurants in Cambridge that will give you similar food for much less money. We were also unimpressed that although they say don't take reservations, they had done just that, so we had to take a table in glaring sun while the (errroneously) booked table stood empty because those customers were late

Small, tucked away place with plenty of food options for brunch. You're allowed to bring your dog and they even give away some complimentary dog biscuits. I would definitely recommend trying some of the creative dishes. While I had the sourdough with poached egg and salmon (they had run out of trout) which was nothing extraordinary - I saw other people more curageous with their choices being served with real feasts for the eye. Will definitely try the portobello mushroom next time! As it was my friends birthday they also provided all of us with complimentary mimosas, which was a nice gesture! Will definitely come back again.

I just love this place. Good quality organic tea (so refreshing when many places have great coffee yet choose not to take time to select decent tea, surprising given it is a national institution!). Delicious cake. Friendly people serving, including the delightful owner who is often around. I'm looking forward to one day dining here, so far only been for 11ses. Also have in sight to go on one of their gourmet holidays to Italy for a future significant birthday.

Visited here last night and had a very enjoyable evening with friends. The food is locally sourced and sustainable. The establishment is small but does have some outside tables. Although the menu is limited, very understandable, the dishes compliment each other. They have an excellent wine list. The Saturday Bistro menu is available from the previous Sunday or Monday on their website and I would highly recommend booking. They always have one selection for vegetarians in the starter and main course. The staff are very professional and a credit to the management team. Will definitely visit the cafe in the near future.

I attended the Croissants and French Pastries class and both learnt a lot and had a lot of fun. Tine was friendly, genuine and open in answering any questions we had and nobody was made to feel stupid if we didn’t pick up a step immediately. There was a lot of flexibility as to how we wanted to do things, so two of us made our brioche fully by hand and two used the mixer, and we all had the option as to whether we made plain croissants, almond croissants, pain au chocolat or a mix of all three. A delicious freshly-made lunch and choice of drinks, including a glass of wine, was provided whilst the pastries were proving and being cooked. I came away with a generous selection of pastries I had made (Croissants, chocolate brioches, pain au chocolats and baguettes), new skills (I feel I learnt enough to make the pastries at home and instruction sheets were given to us which is helpful) and happy memories. Thank you Cambridge Cookery!

Our work team attended a team building event here in April 2018. It was an absolutely lovely way to spend an evening. The staff were wonderful and accommodating to our group, including supplying a special dish for the vegetarian in our group. We prepared an absolutely amazing meal that was fun to make and delicious to eat. I have done cooking classes elsewhere and was impressed that we actually got to prepare everything here ourselves (different than what I have experienced elsewhere) and equally impressed with the quality of the menu itself. We had a superb experience and wholeheartedly recommend the Cambridge Cookery to any group looking to have a fun time together. I hope to visit again!

We had lunch here out of term time when it was relatively quiet and not under pressure. The food, especially the salads, was nice. An omelette with an oriental touch was a nice idea although the omelette lacked the luscious moistness and lightness that a top class example straight from the pan should show. Toasted sourdough bread served with several dishes was simply far too hard, to the point of tooth endangerment. The small cherry tomatoes served in salads and as a roasted dish were divine.

If you have not visited this place & you are a true foodie, you've not lived. It might be slightly out of town but it's worth the find and it's truly out of this world. Carefully thought out menus and flavour combinations to die for. The chefs are so talented and clearly passionate about delivering over and above the norm. Clever, clever people. Amazing service, people who care about the experience of the customers, and just simply the most delicious food. Bistro evenings on a Saturday but make sure you also visit during the day for brunch.

It's hard to find this little place but totally worth the effort. The food is fresh, locally sourced, organic, hand-prepared, beautiful to look at, good for you, and seriously tasty. I had an open-faced sandwich with fresh spinach, hard-boiled eggs, and salmon, and it was both delicious and very filling. Spend the time to find this place so that you, too, can then look down on everyone eating at all those inferior places that are so much easier to find.

Great place for a treat. We've been here for breakfast 3 times in the last 2 weeks because it is just soooo good! poached eggs/avocado soda bread+crispy bacon is delicious. Including a coffee cost is about £10 each. If you live out of town near Hills Road I recommend a walk down to Homerton College to build up your appetite.

We had brunch on Friday (sept 8) and then dinner on Saturday night! The food is outstanding - delicate, fresh, great flavours! Brunch - I had the fried eggs, with chilli fried greens and Taleggio - so different, and just the right amount of chilli and of the rich cheese. Nick had avocado, feta, and roasted tomatoes - also excellent, and great coffee too! Saturday night's dinner began with a glass of pear Bellini - sugar frosted around the glass - like drinking nectar - amazing! Fresh focaccia was served and then a delicious artichoke salad, with a light, whipped/cream artichoke dip. Main course was perfectly cooked thin slices of beef skirt, served on greens and tiny pieces of cubed roasted potatoes. Usually after beef you can feel over full, but this was light and melt in the mouth. We drank a lovely Sangiovese wine. We finished the meal worth a slice of pumpkin pie and clotted cream ice cream. A well balanced, perfectly executed meal – lovely surroundings, and great service. We will be back.
