Our favourite place to go in Bexhill. Brilliant atmosphere, friendly service, nice beers and fresh homemade food options. What’s not to like? So glad Bexhill has a vibrant young place we can go. We want our own menu!! (James’s chicken wings)

I’ve just had a fantastic afternoon stop here with a drink and light food options. Cannot speak highly enough of the outstanding service given by the three members of staff, who smiled, helped us and made us so welcome throughout. Food was great. Such a great discovery. Another great stay in Bexhill and enjoying Calvers Neighbourhood bar. I’ve been visiting regularly for around 4 years and am never disappointed. The staff are amazing and always go the extra mile to make sure everyone has a great experience. The food is great…full English breakfast and burrito bowl for dinner are my favourites! And the music nights are always epic. I can’t wait to visit again!

This place is an absolute delight. Staff are so friendly and helpful. Food is excellent. And popped in later in the evening where they had a vinyl music night which was a fantastic relaxed party atmosphere. Highly recommended

Sunday roast absolutely delicious. Dessert great. Music Red Diesel got to say thought not my thing but husband likes jazz but really enjoyed their performance. Would definitely recommend and would see them again. Great band. Staff and service were exceptional. Highly recommend.👏👏

Great night out, lovely food - beer not bad either!

Fantastic food, service and vibe. Went for drinks and ended up staying for lunch and dinner! The chicken ancho tacos were so good I ended up re-ordering 2 more portions throughout the day! Friends had the flatbread and burgers which were equally good. Such a great atmosphere at Calvers and a really varied menu. I will definitely go back when I am next in Bexhill.

Perfect ! Great atmosphere and we had the most delicious burgers. Highly recommend Calvers and the staff were so friendly. We’ve since tried the gyros as a takeaway option and OMG absolutely loved it.

Always have an amazing time at Calvers, the staff are friendly and always helpful. Food is incredible and always a new special to try. Have been on nights when there has been music on and the atmosphere is unbelievable, everyone up and dancing and having the best time. Looking forward to another visit again

I love this cute, boutique cafe/bar. I had breakfast here each day for 3 days whilst I stayed in Bexhill. The food & service were excellent, with special mention to Phoebe who greeted me each morning with her sunny smile & efficient manner. I would recommend.

Spectacular! Great food, great service and very reasonable too. One of the best meals out I've ever had. Dough balls out of this world and the best I've ever had! Same for the nachos and the leon and pistachio sundae was exceptional too. All the staff were brilliant too. Can't wait to go back.

Excellent meal, fast, efficient service, sometimes you can just see the food has been prepared cooked and presented with care and attention, no rush at all . Gluten-free options and the waitress Julia was so polite and friendly and confirmed with the kitchen that my food was glutenFree. Even better, my partner paid for the meal.

Loved it inside only downside was waiting 30 mins for coffee, was told they had run out of cups but think they had forgotten as it wasn't that busy. Nice coffee & will go back ☕

We had a light lunch consisting of halloumi fries, corn ribs along with a yummy side salad each. Great coffee too! We will be back :)

The atmosphere is good and the staff seemed nice. But was not impressed by the food. I ordered a burger and was disappointed to receive what looked and tasted to be a well presented cheap burger van burger. The chips were nice, but with what you can get locally for the same price, Disappointing.

Another great experience , nothing too much trouble , catered for our lovely friend’s birthday. The small plates were delicious! Our own personal waiter , fab evening, thank you Sam and your great team !!

Went to a private party in the lounge downstairs. We had a dedicated waiter all evening and nothing was too much trouble for him. The cocktails were delicious. Sam had made a menu of small plates just for us with the birthday girls name. Lovely little touch. The food was great. Will definitely be back and will recommend to everyone. Thank you

Absolutely abysmal. Table was cramped with to much going on. Service was quick and efficient for drinks. Food arrived Luke warm at best, burrito bowl looked like pet food served up with some microwaved rice. Tasted awful. All in all couldn’t wait to leave, would I ever return NO CHANCE.

Well, where to start…. From start to finish it was a great experience at Calvers. They have recently opened a speakeasy space downstairs, and the attentiveness, service and communication was amazing. We arranged with the owner a time, date and requirements and from there everything was easy! We had our own bar man downstairs, a personalised menu created, and the food was fast, delicious and extremely good value for money. Everything was outstanding, thank you again to all the staff

Today was our first visit for food. Pleased to see roast dinners on the menu. I had pork and my partner the beef. Roast potatoes swede kale beetroot and a side of cheese broccoli. It was all just perfect. Cooked to perfection and we both felt one of the best roast dinners we had eaten. The service was tip top and we will be back . Thank you. Mj

Very enjoyable place to sit and watch the world go by. Lager was good as too was their Latte. Very relaxing and perfectly situated near the Beach and Bexhill Town Centre 👍

disappointed to find such disinterested and blank-faced service. At the end of the evening they couldn’t wait to get us out of the venue to wipe our tables. And when a glass was accidentally smashed the tension was palpable. See you next week? Probably not !

Booked Calvers for a pre De la Warr Pavilion concert, and for the most part, was not disappointed. The staff & their service was friendly and efficient, despite obviously being under pressure from being hectically busy. The busyness added to the vibrant atmosphere. The chicken gyros were really tasty but had way too big a wrap for the amount of filling contained there in, and unfortunately, the fries were over seasoned, making them over salty for our taste. The Churros were amazing and could have been incredible with a pot of dipping sauce instead of just a 'drizzle' of chocolate sauce over them. The neck oil was refreshingly cold and went down well👍 It must be said that the food service was quick, despite the volume of orders being taken. Will happily come back again in the future. Thank you for a great start to our evening 😀

Becky’s post is NOT an ‘outright lie’ as the staff response suggested. I was a witness to that incident, and it was in no way encouraged by the poor unsuspecting family that was in the receiving end of that totally unacceptable behaviour by the staff members…! If I was the owner I would sack all concerned and compensate the family, if the behaviour was by the owner - SHAME ON YOU…you do not deserve to run a business that deals with the public….we just turned round and left.

Rudest staff that need serious retraining or attitude transplants. Ordered two drinks, coming to £9.10 and paid with a £10 note. Male bartender took note and said something sly to their colleague while taking ages to get the change. Wondered what was taking so long, only to be handed back a 50p and 40p in pennies, so many they wouldn’t fit in our hand. My mum asked if it was a joke, to which his colleague replied “it’s money isn’t it”. Made another comment that we could just pay on card, like it was an inconvenience to them accepting cash? We had 10p, so said just give us a £1 coin. The rude woman said 'let's just leave it at that' to try and shut down any conversation. Proceeded to slam the drink down and throw a spoon across the counter. Weirdly angry staff. Won't be back.

Food fine but staff grumpy and rude.

Funky little bar which we popped into for some food and a drink before a gig opposite. Lovely interior and lovely atmosphere , the staff were friendly but overwhelmed with how busy the bar was which resulted in several delays when ordering drinks which we had to chase. The burger was large and tasty, most of the ingredients seemed fresh but the chips were a little cold. My partners Gyros was bland but it was a nice choice on a pub menu that could've been safe with something else, the wings are bland and average. The highlight was the live music which was high quality and gave a real buzz about the bar, specifically they did a wonderful cover of Kiss by prince. Unfortunately I was a little miffed that the table laying service gave me a £2 charge for payment? If you're promoting this then the bar should be covering that cost. Overall solid bar with decent food, needs more staff when busy would recommend.

Staff nice. Food very average, burger was undercooked, chicken wrap was tasteless. Dogs allowed which was really off putting while we were eating. No wine list as they had all gone missing,so it was hit n miss with the wine recommendations and prices. Menu limited. Would not return

Fabulous time at Calver's! Stayed at the associated sea spray rooms for the weekend with our 4 year old and couldn't fault the bar or indeed the rooms. Food was great and was nice to see a kids menu with something other than chicken nuggets on. Staff were great and extremely patient with my little one. The locals were very friendly too! If your looking for a nice laid back atmosphere with great food, drink and staff this is definitely the place to be!

Come here regularly, and live it every time. What a beautiful atmosphere! 100% recommend for dinner, drinks or a lil party!

Calvers has such a lovely environment! We've had some great nights with friends, some tasty meals and danced the afternoon or evenings away to their live music. The staff are always friendly and happy to help. Would thoroughly recommend to anyone visiting Bexhill!

Went for a quiet drink with my dogs. I hadn't been here in a while. To be honest, the last time the service was snobby, passive aggressive and it wasn't much better this time. My cider stank but I couldn't be bothered to complain (I did mention it as I left). I was told to take my dogs off of the sofa as I was finishing my drink... which is no problem. But, seeing who I can only assume was the assistant manager discussing it with a colleague right In front of me doesn't exactly make a person feel comfortable. I won't be going back. I was basically the only person in there anyway.

We booked a table at Calvers to find a nice looking pub, the staff were friendly but absolutely useless. It took forever for them to come and take our order, when the manager finally took our order we waited nearly an hour to which both of us asked at separate times where our food was, to be told they would check with the kitchen and get back to us - which they didn’t. It took to me standing at the bar waiting for a staff member to meet my eye and get their attention to be told the kitchen hadn’t received our ticket….which he then pulled off the till himself - meaning he hadn’t given the kitchen our order!! Front of house staff blaming the kitchen for their mistakes is not acceptable. Even more than not giving us an apology or a voucher or any compensation for wasting our time. The staff service was awful and I would never go back! Disappointing as our sister had a meal there and said the food was good. We ended up going to Rustico pizza l place next door and had a meal in front of us 20 mins after being seated.

Really lovely restaurant, excellent freshly cooked food & wonderful friendly service. Molly was great, taking time to come & speak with us. Ted my labrador loved it too! The unique chocolate, coffee & caramel pud is delicious...ask about it! Thank you everyone, we will be back for sure 🤩

My food rating is based on when I could actually get a burger and chips from here. I have coeliacs disease and can only have gluten free food. During the COVID lockdowns I used to treat myself probably once a week for surviving in my role as a critical infrastructure keyworker. It was a bit expensive for a burger and chips, but they were really quite tasty. Gluten free burger options in Bexhill are practically non-existant. However, since the rebrand from Rocksalt to Calver their gluten free options seem to have fizzled out. It's quite tough finding food I can eat and it seems that Calvers has slipped backwards. A real shame.

I’ve just shared with the very friendly ladies doing service how disappointed we were with the food. I can honestly say some of the worst food I have ever eaten. I hate to leave a bad review but I also hate being fleeced on awful food and would hate it to happen others. Judging by how few people were eating there I assume most locals are aware of the quality of food. We were served “croquettes” that I could have played table tennis with. The beef inside them was beyond dry - we had our dog with us and he actually refused a second piece of the meat from them. The chef really needs to look up the meaning of “goulash” what I had was a tasteless mushroom stew with a couple of pieces of very average and unseasoned beef. The chicken kebab my husband was served was disgraceful, burnt and dry. The chips were fine and the service was good. But to think any chef is comfortable sending food out in that state is absolutely crazy!

A change of name doesn't change how good this venue really is!!! It's apparently now owned (?) by singer Sam Calver..!!

Booked for 7pm in the Snug. Arrived a bit after 7 and table wasn't ready so had to wait around for it to be cleaned and set up even though the area where we sat was quiet and no one else around. Service was a bit slow, but the food was great I had the calamari followed by the beef burger. Burger was flavourful along with good crisp chips

Service very slow - 10 mins to take initial drink order, another 10 for drinks to arrive. Please bear in mind it was not busy, perhaps 50% capacity. Food dropped off with no salt, pepper, napkins or offer of sauces, just toddled off quickly after food delivered. When asked, waitress rolled her eyes and didn’t respond. Food was terrible - chicken wings over battered, not crispy. Burger so dry it was sent back with no point replacing. All of this is a massive shame as the venue is fantastic, what a special building with great potential. All in, £86 lighter and didn’t have a dinner. Not best pleased. No point making a fuss as the staff clearly don’t care.

Have been into this reboot twice recently. Formerly Rocksalt, my earlier review is below. So. Calver's. Nice shabby chic environment, right next to the Pavilion and the seafront. Drinks good. Staff good (except at 4pm where they change shift and customers are forgotten about. Me included.). Food good, especially the bagels. Prices are toppish. The pricing is made worse because of portion size. They are barely there. The two mains I have ordered arrive alone on the plate, like an island in the Pacific. Not even a single extra pea. Fries, excellent, but an easily countable number in a tiny pot. Needs work. Finally, a general complaint. There are three taco dishes. Two of these are clearly spicy hot. So I choose the third because I don't do spice. After two bites my lips are.numb and my mouth is on fire. I know why big chains have little icons next to the menu item. Sadly, dogs still allowed. It is an odd choice with people eating. Music is a little loud. Overall? One would go in for a snack rather than a meal, credit card at the ready. But much better than it was. They need to buy some bigger plates and fill them. Review of Rocksalt, as was. Third recent visit. First time was okay. Second time was not, so I left a note for the manager. Today was poor and I have now given up. The problems are food, animals and clientele. The food is average because it is poorly cooked. Today my burger bun was untoasted on the top and burned on the bottom. I left it to make the point, not that I would have eaten it. Dishes are barely warm. Desserts are tiny but £6, although this is not unusual. The clientele are basically people who are using it as an office or have come in with their dogs for a coffee. They don't control the dogs and assume everybody loves them. Not me, and definitely not with food. Absolutely, definitely not on chairs and tables. Others are chatting on their phones loudly. One call lasted twenty minutes after which we were all certain he was very important indeed. And that without the louder wonkers who arrive in the evening. Not good. Kills the ambience. Staff are excellent as is usually the case. Owner, chef and manager get the blame.

How is this place 4 stars!? Is this really the best Bexhill has to offer? Probably. Food is very, very average. No better than a chain pub, and I hate that type of food. Atmosphere ok, but far too many drunk people. I like a drink but when I’ve visited there is always someone who has drunk too much. But probably is the best Bexhill has to offer if you are looking for a bar!

After a beautiful day on beach, i wanted to try fish and chips to end this beautiful day. I said my self to tried something new. So i decide to try this new pub(after research on google map and review) First contact, first impression with cashier : false laugh almost to say to me i am welcome to eat at their pub. Second impression : overcharge me : ONE GLASS OF NON ALCHOHOL BEER 5.10£(VERY EXPENSIVE).FISH AND CHIPS 17£(decent) I wait about 10 min for food and i wanted so much to taste new recipe of fish. THIRD IMPRESSION: taste was ok, but after a while i was sick from fish and chips(NEVER HAPPENING BEFORE), i was not prepar to find bones in fish. is supposed to be fillets fish( nobody told me to pe careful). FOURTH IMPRESSION: waiters and cashier need to understand people are coming from different cultures and we are NOT all the same. We have different way to eat a fish ( not messy but DIFFERENT). 🤌🤌🤌.I feel i was treated with no respect, rude, unprofessional Although i pay my meal with my money from my pocket. Like a summary of what i describe here: Never back to eat at this pub(expensive, rude, no fresh fish).

Popped in for a spot to eat & drink. Very welcoming lady and nice staff throughout. Nice selection of drinks and food options. Got a platter & one of the specials which was beef brisket balls. Always a pleasant visit when the sun is shining and the views of the sea in the background.

Food was overcooked, and Rubery was not worth the price paid for it .

The food is always good here but the service can be a bit spotty sometimes. Good atmosphere and they allow dogs. I’ve had quite a few meals here but this is the dirty Mexican fries (£5) which were great! UPDATE!: I’ve returned since the rebrand and I’m not as big of a fan. The menu was the same but the food wasn’t. It’s clear that they’re cutting corners when making it. I also ordered a crumble for dessert and it was really sloppy. As in it was slop. It was obviously microwaved from frozen really disappointing. The reason that they still have 3 stars from me is from previous good will. Maybe it was an off night but I don’t plan on returning :(

It's a bit pricey here....but....the food is outstanding!!!Best gnocchi I've had in yeeeaars. It was so good, I often think about it...how good it was!staff are wonderful, relaxed vibes. Food for the kids is great too!!!and that was very good value for money!!!

Shared all of the small plates and the mussels which were on special between the three of us, although it was a lot of food we loved every bite and the drinks were amazing. Service was incredible all the girls were so smiley and friendly! One of my favourite places to go

Very accommodating for dietary restrictions. Chef checked everything and made adaptations for gluten free.

First visit today very welcoming staff beer ok but they need a proper bitter plenty of trendy larger food ok nothing out standing but the family enjoyed it would not want to be there when busy

Food was beautiful I had the squid followed by gnocchi both perfect . Would have stayed for drinks after but there was literally no space between tables , I could hear the next tables conversation over my own . You need bigger premises as you appear to serve the best food in town . I look forward to visiting your Hastings restaurant.
