Great cake range and amazing scones. Lovely staff, very nice toastie and oil and balsamic to dress the salad. Coffee was good as was the juice selection. Basically a great little place that you should do yourself a favour and patronise

The coffee is exceptional - much better in fact than some of the hipster joints in the town centre. Service is amazing! But the best thing about this place is the almond slice! It's the best almond slice this side of Mars! Great selection of other cakes/bites too!

I used to be a regular here until my working hours changed. Whenever I get the opportunity I always pop in. Lovely place with a counter brimming full of cake treats. Loose leaf tea which is a nice touch.

Out with our sewing crew and the wonderful people at Bugqeeds fabric recommended this lovely vintage teashop. Catering for most needs at short notice they accommodated 9 hungry sewers. The food is all homemade, a food selection of tea , coffee and soft drinks which perfectly accompanied a delicious selection of treats - amazing cakes. Served by wonderfully friendly and knowledgeable staff. Thankyou for providing us all with a lovely lunch. Bev.

Cakes d'licious afternoon tea is superb, especially for the price of £20/head, extensive choice of sandwiches which comes with a good amount of salad, a plain & a fruit scone each and 3-4 cakes per person, all lovely quality and all delicious! Even better the staff are wonderful and cannot do enough for you. Before moving to the York area we visited for a week every October and after stumbling over them on a visit we made sure we visited every time, so we can confirm they have been serving this quality and with this friendliness for probably a decade. Really can't recommend them enough!

As soon as you walk in there is a lovely, homely feel. The cakes are amazing and the staff are so kind and helpful!! We will definitely return!!

The best afternoon tea, sandwiches, amazing, cakes also amazing.

Afternoon tea was delicious, great selection and lots of it. However I would expect a pot of tea to come with it for £20pp? This seemed odd to not have tea with ‘afternoon tea’. Charging extra for this was disappointing. The waitress also said with a bit of an attitude that if we weren’t having tea to pass all the tea cups back which was unnecessary. We were sat at the long table at the back crammed in and it just felt awkward. Especially as we were also having to pass all the food and drinks down because there was no space for the waitress to move. Not sure if i would choose to go back. £9 extra for The Ivy afternoon tea and a much better experience.

A very busy and rather noisy cafe. Food good, though.

Some unusual leaf teas on offer (besides more typical ones), served in teapots and accompanied by tea timers. A huge array of cakes is on offer. Staff are friendly and helpful. I loved being able to sit outside taking time over my cup of tea. Not my first visit and I have always enjoyed myself.

Nikki helped me out with a really short-term small birthday surprise. The handmade cakes and cupcakes look and taste delicious. The atmosphere in the Café is also lovely. Thanks you very much!

We have been a few times, twice for afternoon tea and a couple of times for coffee and cakes. We have never been disappointed by the service or the quality. A very friendly group of staff for who nothing is too much trouble. If there has ever been a hiccup with anything they have resolved it straight away.

Spent a lovely few hours in this delightful cafe, celebrating my friend's birthday recently. Our experience was second to none from the welcome we received to the delicious afternoon tea we were presented with. My friend had the gluten free option and for once, she felt catered for with such a thoughtful menu. I had an afternoon tea in Bettys a few months ago and I can honestly say the food, atmosphere and the team at Cakes d'Licious was far more enjoyable. Thankyou. We will be back

We went here for a hen do celebration afternoon tea and it was everything I hoped it would be. The food was amazing - and 2 guests who had gluten free afternoon tea were especially positive about it! We took our own Prosecco and just generally had a lovely time. I will definitely be going back to sample more cake! The ladies working there were so friendly and it just feels good to know we're supporting an independent business. Highly recommended!

This cafe is a little gem! I went for afternoon tea as part of a hen party. As a vegan I’m always a little worried as to if places can cater for me, but they were fantastically accommodating, and the sandwich choices, scones and cakes were all really nice. They also had no problem catering for people in the group who were gluten intolerant. The staff were lovely and friendly, and the cafe was pretty. I will definitely be going back at some point.

Cakes look appealing and do taste nice but there are clearly designated cutting sizes and we were given a much smaller slice than this, which is disappointing. Not what we pay for. Further, the staff miscalculated how much we should be charged. Infuriating when local businesses you want to support can’t get the basics right.

A great place for cake or lunch if you are in the area. We shared the cauliflower soup with a cheese scone with cream cheese and chutney topping (usually come with ham). Top notch cheese scone. Fluffy on the inside and a good crunch on the outside. A good selection of loose leaf teas - I had the gunpowder green which was lovely. We didn't have any room for cake, but based on the options on the display counter and how good the scone was, it all looked very tasty. They have seating at the back on the ground floor, as well as a few tables upstairs. They have plenty of vegetarian options. They also offer a gluten-free / vegan afternoon tea on their menu (pre booking essential). The gift shop across the road, Birdies Perch, is well worth popping into if you have time.

Wow is all I can say. Nikki you are a legend! The Bakewell that I had today is the best I've ever tasted. And Lauren's Easter Egg Brownie left her with glazed eyes. Can't wait to make the trip into York again soon.

I booked afternoon tea as a treat for my friend. The whole experience was lovely from start to finish. There was a fantastic selection of sweet treats and the team couldn’t do enough for you. We will definitely be returning!

We love it here. We've never eaten in but we definitely need too. We've had their cheese and fruit scones, lots of their cakes and I recently got a sandwich to takeaway. It was so fresh and delicious. The scones are so big I have to slice it in three!!! :-)

Took my mum for early mothers day afternoon tea, everything about it was just perfect, the food was delicious, the presentation and set up of the vintage tea room was gorgeous, the staff where so lovely, welcoming and friendly they couldn't do enough for you. We loved our visit, we had to take some cakes home as there were so many, thank you, highly recommended this little gem of a place x

Lovely tea shop with attentive service that was just a little understaffed on the day of our visit. All homemade delicious cakes! We had the afternoon tea and we all thoroughly enjoyed it. My son was very pleased with the variety on offer in his vegan afternoon tea. I highly recommend the white chocolate + raspberry/blueberry scones, which were enormous and delicious!

Took my wife here for just a coffee but ended up having toastie and a cake. The food is as the cafe says ‘delicious’ The staff are friendly and its a vintage tea room so they are dressed accordingly. The cakes are immense. The lady bakes them every morning. Don’t know how that is possible as the choice is fantastic. They aren’t cheap but you get what you pay for. You can park opposite for two hours so no problems there either. Need a week to recover 😂

It is always such a delight visiting this tea room. The atmosphere is lovely and staff are always so welcoming. The food is delicious and the vast array of cakes is so tempting! Dietary requirements will be catered for, including in their amazing afternoon teas. There is a selection of seating both downstairs and upstairs. Toilets are upstairs. Parking isn't great around the cafe with it being very restricted, but it is only a 15 minute walk from the City Centre of York. Highly recommended and will be visiting again. Take away option is also available.

What a gorgeous vintage tearoom that I happened upon in Clifton. About a 10/15minute walk from the centre of York Such friendly attentive service, the cake display was amazing as soon as you walk in the door. Lots of seating indoors and a couple of tables outside. They do breakfast, sandwiches, baked potatoes, soup, various afternoon/cream teas and children's options. Plus lots of choice in teas, coffees and hot chocolates. I went for a large hot chocolate with flake which was creamy, chocolatey and very nice. Plus coffee and walnut cake which was the best I ever had. Perfect combination of coffee buttercream and walnut sponge with neither overpowering, very moreish. Would recommend if you want really nice homemade food and amazing cakes at a good price. Loved the whole vintage theme, with the ladies serving also dressed up.

If you have never been make the effort to pop along to this tearoom. You will not be disappointed. One of Yorks best kept secrets. The array of cakes is amazing and the afternoon tea is second to none. Be prepared you will be taking some home. D'licious by name and delicious in taste.

I genuinely do like it here, the service especially from the brunette lady with 4 children is exceptional. The coffee is great and the scones are so big you can share them and not feel like you've missed out. However being charged an extra 40p for Decaf coffee is just odd in my book and the proper 3 tiered cake slices are a little on the small side given how much you pay, and for that price you pay they just shouldn't ever be slightly stale. That's just my opinion.

Came here with family for a drink and a afternoon treat. They do a lovely wide selection of cakes and they are very tasty too 😋. The staff here are very welcoming and polite. The customer service was 10/10 and a very friendly family tea room. Would definitely recommend this place to everyone 😊

Lovely little cafe. We had coffee, sandwich & a toastie. They were both delicious, served with a fresh salad & crisps. The cakes looked very tempting! … We’ll have to go back to try them. The pricing was very reasonable! £20.90 for two people, which you don’t get very often. Lovely staff too, fit the whole vibe.

This is my favourite tea shop in York and there is a lot of competition so this tells you how great it is! Everything is delicious and fresh, the cakes really are homemade and each time I visit I always discover something new. Service is so friendly and you leave feeling a bit better (must be the cake 😉) just don't tell everyone about it or we will never get a table again.

Me and my boyfriend went here on a recent trip to York. I was looking up places for afternoon tea, and this place sounded really good from previous reviews from customers. So I booked it up for later that day. And boy am I glad I did!!! It was a bit further out from the town centre of York, maybe approx 20 mins with the Google Maps directions. On first walking in, I could tell it was a proper cake shop, with delightful looking cakes on display for customers. The staff were very friendly and polite, all credit to them, sorry I didn't catch their names. We were shown to our table after only a few mins wait. And I already loved it, as the table was a vintage style as was the teacups and saucers. Just lovely! 😊 Only approx a 10/15 min wait and we had the cake stand with our afternoon tea and it was fantastic, the portions were really generous that we actually had to take some cakes away with us to have at the hotel! But I would really highly recommend this place and I would defo go again the nxt time we go to York! 😊❤️👌 X

I visited cake d'licous today with my daughter for her birthday. We love afternoon tea and have had quite a few over the years. Cake d'licous, without a doubt is the best ever. Wonderful food, amazing staff and a very warm welcome. The staff can't do enough. It has a quirky retro feel. I came away with a box full of cakes that I couldn't manage to eat. I thoroughly recommend this cafe and can't wait to return.

What a hidden gem of a place ! We were recommended to visit by a lady working at our guest house , Kate at the Apple House. We arrived one afternoon and I asked for recommendations of the cake. I was told the almond cake flew out so I had that and my husband had frangipani. There was nothing wrong with my cake, it was just that there was too much butter cream for me and I found it very sweet. I went back to the counter to buy a different piece and Jenny was insistent that I chose another piece on the house. I had tea loaf which was delicious. The customer service was brilliant as all the cakes were home made and delicious , this one just wasn’t for me. Excellent. We ended up watching Jenny starting to make another cake. ! She was apologetic about my experience but she had nothing to apologise for. I can’t recommend this little cafe too highly. Lovely friendly staff, very clean and welcoming , would visit every week if I lived in York !

Visited as a group of 10 yesterday. Probably the best afternoon tea we have ever had as a group. Dietary requirements were taken care of and the service was excellent, with friendly staff. Worth a walk out of the city centre to visit this gem 💎

Awesome tea room with beautiful cakes, great retro 1940s themed and the staff are amazing. Took my mum for her birthday surprise and the staff could not do enough for all of us. The cakes are so nice we all had a doggie bag to take home and it's just a great little place. I would recommend anyone to go but at the same time don't want it to change. My wife did some searching before we left for our mini break in York, and found this gem! We stopped here for a cream tea on Thursday afternoon after we'd left York, and were about to drive home. We'd called ahead and ordered our sandwiches, and they were lovely and fresh, as were the homemade cakes!! :-) We saw huge queue's in York for a certain teashop, why would you queue for hours and in the rain, when there is this lovely place to visit a walk or bus ride from central York? We were so full after the sandwiches and cakes, that we brought our scones, cream and jam home with us, and they were still fresh when we ate the the following day. Just wish it wasn't a 2 hour drive away, or we'd visit more often......although my waistline will probably be happy!!!!

We came here for afternoon tea after a weekend in York - booked after reading reviews and wanted a smaller, less touristy experience. Nice little cafe, themed decoration and uniforms and the welcome was good. Pre-booked afternoon tea and pre-selected sandwiches although owner wasn't there so had to choose again. 2 of my wife's top choices weren't available as fillings which wasn't ideal but happy with the 3rd one. All the food was good and cakes particularly great, but service was a bit slower than expected. Decent experience but would be keen to try other places next time.

Very disappointed. Had a table booked for 10am with friends. Waitress came to take our order then told us no bacon left! As we left the woman cooking told us she had already cooked 6 bacon sarnies and didn't have time to do any more. Bellas cafe over the road had our custom this morning and probably will from now on. Absolutely fabulous sarnies and cheaper 😊

Afternoon tea in my garden with my son and his fiance was made extra special courtesy of Cakes D'Licious.I could've passed it off as home made but it was too good and the selection of cakes and sandwiches was way more than I could've cobbled together.

We enjoyed our takeaway Mother's Day afternoon tea yesterday. Everything was amazingly fresh and tasty, from the sandwich selection, the fruit scones served with jam and clotted cream through to the selection of homemade cakes, cupcakes, and biscuits. We even had some left over to enjoy with a cuppa later. Wonderful, and highly recommended.

Fabulous food really cannot fault but the staff were not very friendly and if you have mobility issues the only loo is upstairs which is a bit of a nightmare.

Thank you for the amazing Festive Afternoon Tea we had today! We all really enjoyed it and there was so much time and effort that had gone into making it so magical and Christmassy! There was so much of it we even got leftovers later on! Thank you, it was a perfect way to celebrate an important birthday!

We have just had one of the best afternoon teas ever. The sandwiches had just enough filling and were very tasty. The scones were fluffy and the homemade cakes were to die for, we couldnt eat it all so saved some cakes for tomorrow.

Popped in for a coffee and cake. Really good.

Lovely cakes and we go regularly; pretty sure my wife goes even more than she admits. Only downside that puts me off is many cakes are not covered and close to the door where customers are coming and going so not very hygienic. We only get cakes that are covered so please cover them all so we have more choice!

There was a huge array of tasty looking cakes as I entered the cute little establishment but there was no warm welcome - a “hello”, a “take a seat we’ll be with you ASAP”, a smile - any would’ve been appreciated but nothing so I just wandered around and chose a seat. There was an unfriendly lady sat at the back of the cafe barking instructions at the staff and even instructed me to move seats so that staff could wipe down the table I chose. The lady then began questioning a member of staff whilst she was taking a call. The staff weren’t smiling, yet were efficient in their job. There was just an unfriendly atmosphere in the place. I wondered how much of it was down to this lady.
