Amazing food and coffees, ideal location when staying at the Marriott across the road. We visited 3 times across our stay as we enjoyed it so much. Granola Bowl was brilliant, and the Halloumi flatbread special of the day was amazing and fast service!

My partner and I had breakfast here. The avo and chilli toast with eggs tasted fantastic. Also, the breakfast sandwiches hit the spot. Carolina, Katherine, and Shannon were really friendly and helped us with questions about the area.

Cozy cafe serving great looking food and coffee. Has a nice clean toilet with baby changing facilities.

I was told in a very rude manner by a waitress that I wasn’t able to use my laptop. I’ve been coming to this cafe for years as I drop my son off at preschool down the road. They’ve lost a good customer.

Stayed at hotel across the road again where breakfast (when we’ve stayed there before) is buffet style, expensive and manic. So hopped over to the cafe and had a freshly prepared hot breakfast, which was all delicious. My husband said it as one of the best coffees he’s had anywhere. Service friendly and welcoming.

Delicious gut-health friendly food. Lots of choice and home-baked treats (blackberry orange loaf perfect and not too sweet). Yummy avocado sourdough chilli toast with seeds and amazing grilled halloumi (perfectly cooked). Cater for vegans with oat milk alternative. Service by Katherine (the owner) and Jack was exceptional - very friendly, genuine and kind. Hope to visit again soon!

I really hesitate to write this review as I have never written a negative review before. I have visited this cafe many times and usually found the service fine but today the cafe staff were very rude and told me off for studying. I didn't think it would be an issue as it wasn't busy, I was only the third customer in the cafe. I made sure to buy a coffee and food as I was in the cafe a hour and a half plus I used my own data. I am honestly so disappointed as it's my local cafe and I now feel like I am no longer welcomed.

So glad we stumbled across this little gem! So lovely sitting outside in the sunshine ☀️ We ordered the avo and chilli toast and added extras - what gorgeous flavours and presented beautifully! The homemade lemonade was so refreshing, perfect for a warm day. Wonderful, friendly service too. Thank you - we’ll definitely be back!

I visited York for a couple of days and had my breakfasts at this cafe. It was so yummy and delicious, it debunks the idea that English food is bland and boring. 50p for hot water! Really??? You charge £5 for bacon on one slice of toast. Greedy just dies not cut i Chairs are like metal cutters in your back. Not even comfortable seating and insufficient table space. Basic conditions and money making (sorry grabbers)

What a fantastic little cafe. Popular with local residents. Very friendly; the food and coffee was lovely. I discovered this cafe for breakfast after staying the night at the Delta Marriott over the road. Will come again the next time I'm visiting York. We especially loved the cute Doggy customer photo wall

Quick service with a smile and a lovely bacon bap to start a day in York. We went back the next day for a great breakfast that was half the price of our hotel across the road, would definitely recommend.

Best smashed avocado on sourdough I have ever tasted. Came with a fried egg as requested but the pumpkin seeds and chilli oil gave it a kick and a crunch that was undeniably delicious. It looked beautiful too. Teamed with a creamy oatmilk flat white, well priced, clearly all made by somebody who cares. And to think I nearly went to Starbucks!

We are on Holiday from Australia and found this little cafe the day before we flew home, I just wish we had found it sooner because we would have gone there every single day. It’s on Tadcaster Road just a couple of kilometres outside of York City centre near the racecourse. During our visit we have been to several cafes during our stay and cafe 12 beats all off them hands down. The owner and her staff are very friendly, they interact with all their customers on a personal level whether you are having a take away or dining in. We had breakfast there which was excellent. I’m a barista in Australia and being a coffee snob I know what a good coffee should taste like, at Cafe 12 it’s the first coffee I’ve had while being in England which is up to my very high standards and expectations!! everywhere else I’ve been the coffee has been nasty!!! The beans they use are very good quality but may I had its not just the beans it’s how the barista makes it!! Their Batista is obviously and a very good barista which are very hard to come by! I would definitely employ him without a doubt. If you live in England or if you are just visiting I would highly recommend that you pay them a visit!!!!

Cafe no. 12 is an Oasis of a brunch spot. Top quality ingredients , delicious build your own brunch, super kind staff and excellent service. Sat outside in November under pagoda after a autumnal golden leaved knavesmire walk. Very recommended.

Once again, we indulged in the perfect weekend pit-stop today at Cafe at No. 12 - a long and leisurely 'Build Your Own Breakfast' brunch in the sun, savouring delicious, healthy, locally-sourced, high-quality ingredients, served promptly by the friendly and welcoming team who were obviously enjoying their work. This has become a regular weekend treat, and this lovely place serves up the perfect tonic every time - highly recommended!

Absolutely stunning cafe, food amazing, service wonderful. The staff are really on it with allergens but worked with me so I could enjoy what I wanted. What a lovely little spot for breakfast. We stayed at the hotel opposite but wanted a more reasonably priced breakfast. This place was perfect. Friendly staff, yummy food served quickly and just what we needed to fuel a day in York one day and a family wedding the next. Highly recommended! :)

Stopped for a late breakfast before travelling home from York. We both had the cooked breakfast with thick toast, washed down with several cups of steaming tea. The food was spot-on, especially the bacon and sausage, as well as reasonably priced. We sat outside under the gazebo, which the council were intending to be removed. The owner asked if we would object to the councils intentions, which we happily did. Pleased to see the council have seen sense!

Having read the great reviews before coming, we were certainly not disappointed and most definitely agree with everything written by others. We were up against the clock with one of our party having a train to catch. Service was excellent and the quality of food superb. We had a granola bowl, full English, smashed avocado and salmon, and a bacon roll - all delicious! Would recommend it all!

Found this delightful little cafe a few hundred metres from the holiday inn we were staying at. Only went once for breakfast but was impressed. The service was pleasant and quick. The coffee was very agreeable and my salmon snd crushed avocado on sourdough was very fresh and tasty. Some reviewers think it’s a tad pricy but I found it similar to places all over York do no complaints from me. I liked the outside seating area but it was full when we got there. Surprising seeing there was roadworks almost directly opposite the cafe.

We were early for Goddards (National Trust) garden opening so stopped by for a hot drink in the sunshine on a Sunday morning. It was quite busy which is a good advert - lots of people having breakfast. We enjoyed our drinks in the sunshine.
