I visited here on Sunday, looking for a place to grab a coffee and snack while doing some writing on my iPad. I ordered an iced latte which was nice. It’s quite small inside so sharing of the tables is common which adds to the ‘friendly’ vibe (at first), and so I was sat at the end of one big table. To point out, I wasn’t using any of the cafes wifi (if they had any, I didn’t check) nor was I using any chargers/electricity. I was there maybe 30/40 minutes while drinking and finishing my coffee when the lady (owner?) came to tell me that because I had finished my coffee and hadn’t purchased anything else, I had to leave to give my seat up if more people came in. At this point it was getting slightly busier but there were still many available seats and a lot of orders were for takeaway. I felt quite embarrassed after this, as there were others sat beside me who heard and I suddenly felt unwelcome and that I had to leave. I had actually been about to order one of the scones and cream for some lunch but instantly felt uncomfortable doing so as it now came across that I was simply buying to stay. Sort of ruined my experience there. I would understand if I had been there hours and not purchased anything else or was using wifi/electric but I was there less than an hour and had bought a (£4) cup of coffee. I also add that another table of two had been there before me and after and were not asked to leave, and they were even given a tea and coffee on the house so it seems all guests aren’t treated equally. Avoid cafe if you enjoy being solo and doing some work on a device as they seem to dislike this, other wise it’s a nice vibe with nice coffee.

Super cute and cosy cafe tucked into a vintage store. Came here specifically for the scones as I saw they were highly rated. Definitely not disappointed. So fresh and soft, comes with your choice of jam and clotted cream. We also got a pot of English breakfast tea and an Orange Earl Grey cake to share. The cake had authentic orange flavour and it was really moist too. Friendly service :) will be back for sure for more scones and cake!!

I came here around 14:00 on a Sunday and really wanted to love this place, but they reheated my scone without asking (is that a thing here?) and it just did not taste good. Also the clotted cream was stiff as butter. That being said, jam was tasty, the atmosphere was great, and the cakes looked good. Maybe best to come here in the morning when the scones are fresh 🤷‍♂️

The shop is super cute, and the coffee area is nice. The coffee isn’t great but the pastries are worth a try. However the man that serve in the counter is rude and treat the coffee shop like a canteen. I was chatting with friends and halfway through my cup of coffe that he told us we must leave for other clients (in a rough impolite way). Just that situation has ruined the experience which had a good start.

A hidden gem of a place with a charming atmosphere capable of making you feel like you're many miles away from the bustle of one of the worlds busiest cities. The premises are small with a high demand. Luckily we were seated almost immediately. The service was top notch and very friendly. Now the tasty bit. The cream tea and scones hit the spot. The Victoria sponge absolutely delicious. Even the café latte was velvety smooth. So much better than expected. Miles better than any other coffee shop I have sampled in the city in recent years (big chains and independent little ones). Definitely hoping to make it back to this place again very soon. Only wish it was open during the week too. Well done 'Cake Hole Cafe'.

This is a cafe at the back of a vintage shop in Columbia Road.Tips - be prepared to share tables, their tables are large (6 seaters) and it is expected that you won't "hog" them. Also, for lap-top users who like to hog a table, this isn't for you, as it will be very inconsiderate due to the demand for space, particularly on a Sunday. If you are going on a Sunday, go early. It can be congested, and the vintage shop is small, so best not to go there if you have bulky shopping from the flower market.Tea/coffee/cake is a tad expensive, but not silly. Only open Friday-Sunday (coinciding nicely with the Columbia Road Flower Market held on Sundays), this is a hidden gem not to be missed. Well positioned just before you get caught up in the throng of market-goers (or as a reward for when you get back out) and tucked in the back of Vintage Heaven, a quaint, family-run shop selling retro and mid-century china-wares. A little bit like walking into your granny’s living room, with cross-stitch frames on the walls, mismatched crockery and almost-chintzy items dotted around, it’s a real step back in time. The staff are very friendly, not minding if you arrive with armfuls of flowers, and it has a sense of “community” with customers sharing tables during busy times. Incredible cakes (at about £3 per slice) – I had the apple and blueberry cake which was deliciously moist, while my friend had the carrot cake (very strongly flavoured with cinnamon and unusually contained some dried red berries) which I was reliably informed had “frosting to die for”. Though large portions, we happily devoured every last crumb and continued to salivate over cakes being ordered by other customers – the Victoria Sponge and chocolate and peanut butter banana loaf being of particular note! Simple, honest home baking at its best. The idea is that everything you see you can buy, although, perhaps typical of me, I wanted the one thing that wasn’t for sale – an old teatime treats recipe book. However, the owner was very helpful, writing down the book’s title and ISBN number for me, which happily I have since been able to source online.

The worst customer service ever. Intimating man who cut our cake, pressure to order from the waitress who kept nagging us to order the minute we walked in and then blaming us for muddling the order. Do not go here. So many more beautiful and better services cakeries in hackney

We were in the area of Columbia Road for the Corner Shop exhibition, and we fancied tea. At 2.30pm, this place was packed (presumably with flower market shoppers). The cakes looked great. They were so busy, that there was a backlog, and I watched the very last of the cakes disappear off their stand before I even had chance to order. There was nothing to stay for, so we left. I am sure they would have been great, but for a place called Cake Hole to run out of cake speaks volumes.

Thread your way through the vintage crockery shop at the front (being careful not to smash anything in your rush to sample the cakes beyond) into a cosy tea shop serving a small selection of sandwiches and lots of cakes and teas on mix and match vintage crockery. Hit the spot after an hour of fighting along Columbia Road and a welcome break. The smoked salmon sandwiches were plain but delicious. A generous pot of tea for two for £3. It may be a bit picky but my only gripe was with the Victoria sponge. I'm a bit of a stickler on these, and in my personal view they are marred by buttercream. The sponge itself was dense and moist, just how I like it. The jam tasted very fruity and home-made. But I just can't be doing with buttercream, sorry. Fresh cream only please! What a shame. Otherwise it would have been the full 5 points!

A trip to Columbia Road and its amazing flower market is never complete without a visit to Cake Hole at the back of Vintage Heaven. Simply love the ambiance there - quirky and kitsch with the kind of cakes your grandma used to bake. I adore the way preloved china, glass ware, kitchenalia and other vintage finds are colour co-ordinated to make even the kitschest finds seem stylish. The theme continues in the delightful cafe with Ercol furniture and melamine trays adding to its charm.Always a great selection of cakes (home-made, of course). A big fan of the coffee walnut sponge, plum cake, and battenburg (although this hasn't made an appearance for some time...shame, it knocks spots off the bought variety) on this occasion hubby and I went for the cinnamony, moist carrot cake and a slice of blueberry and lemon cake. Both scrummy accompaniments to a steaming mug of coffee. A popular spot with tourists, on this occasion we missed the rush (it was an early visit for elevenses) and there was plenty of room to sit. Table-sharing adds to the homely atmosphere at other times and we've often been asked by (usually Japanese) tourists to photograph them with their cream tea.Very friendly service by a cheery guy who managed to keep smiling despite having a ca(ke)tastrophe when the carrot cake he was slicing hit the deck! A bonus is that there is also a loo for customers' use - Columbia Road is a little lacking in that department. My only criticism is that the frosting on the cakes tastes distinctly of margarine. Although some folk might not mind this, in my view there's nothing to beat the flavour of butter.

This is a lovely little tea shop in the back of a lovely vintage shop. The decor is cool-kitsch and the cafe feels like a grandma's kitchen but a bit more trendy. It is only open on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. They have about a dozen different teas on their menu and some delicious cakes - I had a slice of the plum cake which went very well with my 'vintage heaven' tea. The man serving was a bit inexperienced, but he was honest about it and friendly with it. I would definitely go again and would recommend it if you are in the area.

Fun music, great vibe, bangin’ pies. What more is there to say. Lots of space indoors and on the large patio out front. Friendly, fast service. The pies (chicken and beef) were hot, crispy and delicio
