Cake Box Barkingside in Redbridge

My colleague and I used to often come here for lunches after discovering this gem thanks to the recommendation from a landlady (we worked as estate agents). Sadly our estate agency office moved so we can't treat ourselves to this delicious food as much. I personally loved the chilli paneer, dhaal and chicken korma and of course, their teas. The staff are amazing as is the service.

Food is not as fresh....I bought Idli sambhar and there was some foul smell in sambhar

Best idiappam, sothy and sambal you can buy. Nice jumbo mutton rolls. Good vegetarian options.

Always delicious and fresh food

It was extremely busy today but the staff remained calm and were extremely quick at serving everyone. I was served by Nivethitha today who provided excellent customer service . All the staff were serving with a smile on their face !!

I always come there to buy my food.. very tasty and I enjoy to eat from here. Also I get a very welcoming, respectful and treated so well from the staff always.. particularly Bavani as she very happy and very helpful lady.. her customer service is always excellent..

It would be helpful to give allergy information such as Gluten Free or Vegan. I'm so disappointed in having to go to such measures to find out the ingredients. The food is very tasty and fresh but as a customer I'm not informed enough.

I got only 1 pol roti delivered and was charged £2.15 for it .This is unacceptable .

Their Halal Mutton roll, wowww out of the world. Samosa are average. They sell a green spicy sauce in glass bottles worth trying. 👌🏽 Their prices are very good 😊

I regularly buy food and snacks from this place. I would have easily given them 5*, but I’m holding back and giving 4* because every single time I order iddly with sambar and chutney, they don’t give me the green chutney. This has happened to me on three different occasions within the past year. When you check their menu online, iddly is pictured with sambar, green chutney and red chutney! Am I missing something?🤔🤔. As I live 9 miles further out in Essex, I never went back to complain…

Fantastic food, always fresh and reasonable priced.. I normally get the chicken meal deal, which is rice, 2 vegetables of your choice and chicken on the bone. It's very filling and delicious.

Essentially a take out dhaaba. But small portions :(( Veg and non-veg clearly labelled and kept apart. But the staff could not advise if food was gluten free. Idli’s are soft and fluffy but very small. Sambar had the right level of tang but such a small portion! Vadda with spinach never disappoints.

The food was sent to the wrong address. I was then told by this staff to contact uber eats for any refund. They were most unhelpful and unprofessional!

It’s got too expensive Brought chicken korma. a small box- not even filled completely -and it cost £5!!! They have hiked up the price, reduced the product and scamming its customers !

Quick service with smiling faces!

As I was walking past I noticed a queue forming on to the public pavement outside of the shop, which led me to investigate further. Purchased Veg Samosa, Onion Baji and Chicken Fry (Halal). Everything tasted very nice with the right level of spice. Will definitely be going back again to try some of their other items. Service was fast and friendly.

Bought mutton rolls on 14.06.2023, the mutton is so dark. Its old meat they have used. So frustrated that we travelled over an hour to buy at these shops. Every Sambal express branches use the old unsold food and mix them with newly made ones. Not fresh at all. This needs to be investigated and shut down. Will not recommend. 0 out 10😡😡😤👎👎👎👎

I went today bought two mutton Kotthu rotti , terribly no good taste , even no cooked properly…

ACTUAL CLOSING TIMES ARE AT 8PM NOT 9PM AS STATED AS ALL FOOD IS TAKEN INSIDE BY 8PM FOR STORAGE AND CLEANING FOR NEXT DAY.

The portion sizes are a bit small.. but the taste is very authentic.. loved the food and would order again

Excellent food here, communicating can be slightly difficult, but the ladies are polite, I love the meal deals the do here, 1 meat curry + 2 veg curies and rice in one decent sized pot which they heat up for you if you want to eat straight away, I love the mutton rolls from here. Can get very busy at times and feels a little cramped as it is a small shop, but well worth it.

Amazingly tasty vegi food and amazing value. They say the non-veg is halal but there's nothing written on their door or menu and I was a little unconvinced by their response when I asked; sticking to vegi was the safe optioni thought.

I ordered 2 chicken biriyani and 1 lamb roll. All the items delivered in Time but the items were too cold. Then I put it in oven . The the biriyani became stale I just throw it in bin. Never recommend this restaurant. Such a bad experience I had.

This isn't about the atmosphere since this is a pick up and go place, but sadly the food wasn't to my tastes.

The food they serving was cooked before and kept it cold. They dont even warm the food before delivery. When i asked the restaurant they said its customers duty to warm it and eat. They serve like this in all their 10 branches. If the food is serving cold please mention it in your description. Before placing order.

Food is good but not always fresh the curries are cooked and keep for a few days the rice is very starchy and the vegetable selection is very limited. The ladies at the counter are very rudely spoken to non orgin people who don't understand a word spoken in Tamil. AVOID THEM AT ALL COSTS.

02/11/2021 @ around 1440 there was an old guy wearing a cap and face shield came from the kitchen and shouting at one of the lady who was serving a customer for keeping the uber driver for long .For his age he shouldn't behave like that.im trying to report it to the employment tribunal

Good food for the price you are paying and very fast service and delivery, pretty much on the same level as other fast food chains but a different cuisine and not just burgers and kebabs. Not as spicy as I expected but it is fine.

It's clean, hygienic. We had only the vadas (both types) and they were yum and balanced.

Rude staff, unhygienic and avoid at all times.

All the staffs are very polite, friendly and helpful. Foods are very tasty and fresh.

Lots of Sri Lankan community go there to get savories like Ulundu Wade, kadala Wade, fish cutlets, meat rolls, egg rolls, vegetarian rolls, sweets, buriyani dishes, various vegetable and meat curries and stringhoppers. The best stringhoppers I've found so far near us.

You can purchase lot of sri lankan foods specially shorteats, and rest of main sri lankan foods. Food was fresh and the portions are small. Including shorteats as well. Compare to other sri lankan outlets.

Great customer service. But the sambal that comes with the string hoppers is a bit too spicy.
