Cagney's Restaurant in Camden

Been coming here pretty much every week for a meal, sometimes breakfast sometimes dinner and I love it. Food is what you can expect for a decent home cooked meal at a reasonable price. Eat here :)

Old and dirty restaurant Steak was hard and over done ask for medium rare Spaghetti had a off smell to it like a frozen one that had been in there for a few days Gordon Ramsay need to sort this place out

Noticed this place in the afternoon sounded good popped in around 7pm got a table straight away the staff couldn't be anymore helpful the food arrived promptly starters and then the main meal we definitely ordered to much the meals are huge I had ribs and chicken the wife a chicken dish. This has to be one of the best meals I've had in London the place is small but cosy it's a lovely place the staff always asked if we we're ok nothing was to much for them how anyone gives a bad review I don't know some people are born moaners you're in London it's never going to be cheap but this place gives more than most.Pictures don't do justice.

The food is actually ok but the two girls who are in charge makes it below that I felt in the way and while one serves she dips out for a cigarette I felt in the way while they were on their phones

As a vegetarian, I thought there was a good choice. The "meal deals" represent excellent value. I found the staff to be very friendly, the service good, and the food tasty. Would recommend for lunch, which is the time of day I visited.

It looked like just a run of the mill cafe, but the food was really good. The service was good and the waiter was extremely helpful to another table that was struggling with the language.

After a stressful day I decided to give this place a go, amazing food amazing staff and amazing atmosphere and I absolutely love the location and for where it is in London the prices are not bad all. I ordered number 70 it was a burger with cheese and a coke no ice, amazing I visit every other week now as I can’t resist this restaurant and it’s close to Great ormand street so it is a win win situation and for the price and the taste.

Attended after a trip to the theatre on a Sunday evening. The atmosphere is cosy, warm and although tables are shared, a private conversation can still be had.

I'm sure the rents are sky high here and they need to cut costs but not on the food. Had a burger with baked potato which seemed ancient - really awful. My partner had lamb kebab which was so tough. We will never go back.

Went here with my friends and was pleasantly surprised. Music was not punishing food was very good and service was exceptional, it is closer to home so we will try these after being here. Good burger joint.

Visited for a pre-theatre meal. Pleasantly surprised, good portion size, tasty, and wide choice available. Staff very attentive and friendly. Very good value considering this is in the middle of London. Would visit again.

We had walked past this restaurant a few times over the weeks and thought we would give it a try. It always looked partly empty. We went in and sat down, all seemed ok but then things started downhill. We noticed the decor was not great, then the service was mixed, but the real shocker was the food. Some of it must have been re-heated as it was terrible, the salad was old and looked old and generally, it all just seemed not great. We finished and left... Would not recommend.

Location looked nice, menu interesting. Breaded garlic mushrooms straight from Iceland or similar, limp salad. Main was the lamb kebab but I went for baked potato rather than rice. Lamb comprised some chewy flavourless chunks of gristly indeterminate meat which had been smothered in bottled BBQ sauce. I abandoned it. It’s a sad day when a reheated baked potato is the best thing on your plate. When asked why I had not eaten it I explained how poor it was and inedible. Was asked if I wanted something else I declined and asked for the bill. No offer of anything. Just another foolish punter ripped off. DON’T GO THERE

The burger and steaks are unbelievable. Just too good! Been to Italy and I honestly think this could be better..

No hay problema - la comida llegó rápidamente y fue muy bueno y las facturas eran hecho de una manera muy eficiente. Es un estilo de moda Italiana/restaurante americano de moda, pero no la presentación buena comida y un servicio amable.

Tuvimos un almuerzo tarde aquí uno de abril por la tarde. Nos sentamos afuera. Fue un poco más fríos, pero el camarero enciende la calefacción exterior, que era muy agradable. Teníamos grande parte de pescado muy sabroso y patatas fritas. . . Este era un buen lugar para un almuerzo de comida muy buena, buena parte, muy buen servicio, de estar afuera en la calle muy concurridas, no simplemente muy bueno

Simply awesome. Have plan to visit London in August with my fiancé. I’m definitely coming to have this again. Great food, exotic ambience, seemed like last supper I have dined. If you are in London, you must taste their food.

Cagney’s is a wonderful place to wine and dine; I had been to this American restaurant last weekend and was almost bowled over with its exclusive range of food items. Being a foodie, I wanted to try some of the most popular food from the chef’s “American kitchen”. Both the taste and quality of food over here are commendable. Next weekend I am going to catch up with a friend of mine, right at this restaurant. The service too is great.

Walked to Cagney’s from our Hotel had a small Breakfast plus a Coffee it was really good. The place is even situated in a good location.

The American inspired menu and up beat atmosphere makes this an enjoyable experience. And also the location of the restaurant is great.

My wife was in London for her vacation with me. She longed to taste American cuisine. I did not take many chances and took her to Cagney’s. She was extremely satisfied with the food and its taste, specially the “WHAT PRIZE GLORY”. Will surely comeback.

Lovely food ,served hot, generous portions. Friendly waitress- recommended Central London Restaurant and nice to eat somewhere not part of a chain.

Decent service, average food, nothing to ring home about. Definitely not a treat, but also nothing exceptionally bad. Plenty of nicer places around.

try out Cagney's Restaurant today. I went to this joint last week and was blow away by the fast service and interesting menu. Whether you are visiting London or is a local out there, you need to try out this eating joint. I was so busy eating that i forgot to take pics. But be rest assured, i will do it, the next time I am there

Tenía un panini y café aquí. Cuando la cuenta fue de poco más de 9 libras. A pesar de servicio incluido decidieron no dar el cambio de 10 libras. El servicio era mediocre y, como un montón de restaurantes tuvimos que pedir dos veces el agua del grifo. Eso es una lección, Pret la próxima vez.

Was in London for a business meeting. It was in the evening when one of my colleague asked me to try The Steaks from Cagney's. I did so .The taste is something that I can't explain. Will surely come back given a chance.

The food we ordered was bland overcooked and tasteless. Really disappointed as was looking forward to it. I definitley would never visit again.

We turned up here as a group of 16 on a Saturday night without a reservation and they were great at accommodating us. Food was of a very good standard, multiple courses all came out in good time and service was friendly. My favourite was the potato skins with cheese and bacon. Would like to see a few more vegetarian options for mains but overall great place, quality food and very reasonable prices

Friday night in London and it is not easy to get into restaurants around Russell Square and some of the pubs are small.

We bought a Groupon for this restaurant and booked for dinner. We sat outside which was lovely. The food was very good and plenty of it and the waiters, Casti and Ossie were very efficient and friendly. We would definitely go there again and would recommend.

La comida es casera y de buena calidad. No es caro y además tienen un menú por 6£ de pollo asado con ensalada mixta y (a elegir) patatas fritas, cocida o arroz, y te ponen 4 salsas (mahonesa, ketchup y dos que no se de que eran, pero muy buenas). Con bebidas y propina sale a 20£ dos personas y comes estupendamente. La atención de los camareros es genial y el ambiente acogedor, muy recomendable.

Found this little gem by chance & wasn't disappointed. Lunchtime menu £6.95 pasta plus a soft drink excellent value for London. The sauce was so nice I could of linked the Plate! My only negative was there wasn't enough! Lol

Came across this restaurant when on a stroll after work whilst on business in London, and I was not disappointed.Food and drink order was very quickly taken and served to my outside table as it was a lovely evening.Main meal and desert were very good, and price was reasonable.Would visit again when in the area

Dinner here one night with friends. Not many people in the restaurant so we thought service should have been a bit better than it was. Our orders were originally messed up and someone had to come out and double check. My steak was very rare, cold and tough. However the others had the ribs which seemed to make up for everything else.

I'm living here in London from one year and I usually go at least once a week. Lovely place, lovely service, fresh, amazing and not expensive food! Sometimes I also come with all my friends.I really suggest this restaurant to everyone!

Maybe sitting outside is slightly better but inside it is a dive. Ok service but dismal food. Burgers came completely overcooked. Went down to the toilets and when peeking in the kitchen my trust levels were not increased. Very very messy and dirty. Avoid at all costs. Lots of better choice in spitting distance.

Having a stroll we decided to stop off at cagneys. First impression in need of a sprucing. Menu looked good & it was after 8pm. We ordered starters mains & drinks. Service was ok food was a pass mark just. Mains arrived we had ordered steaks both medium both over cooked . Mine had a tasty Diane esq sauce which helped with my dry over cooked sirloin. My wife's was even drier. All in all £60 for 2 courses including steaks & drinks in London is value but food needs to be treated better.

I remember this little resutaunt from 30 years ago. Was happy to have found it again. Daughter runs this place now. So it is still in the family. It was just the same as I remembered it. It made our stay in London complete.

Есть либо дорогие места, либо пабы в которых очень людно и пища простоватая. "Cagney" мне показалось идеальным соотношением всего. Хоть и непритязательный, но ресторанчик. В меню есть хорошие предложения, по которым можно недорого поесть. (Брали комбо - пол-курицы и ребрышки свиные. Подавалось с гарниром, который можно тоже выбирать, что важно, а то везде предлагают "chips", было вполне достаточно на двоих и по цене около 16 фунтов всего). Кухня позиционируется как американская, не знаю точно, но мне понравилось. Единственный минус - к счету накручивают "обслуживание".

The atmosphere was pleasant as were the staff but the food was horrible. The chicken portion was a tiny over cooked and much reheated inedible mess of bones and discoloured meat. It was most unappetizing. There were a few chips - oven chips I'd guess, luke warm a bit dry but ok at a push and an acceptable small salad garnish. I had a beer with it and the bill came to over £13. It really wasn't worth the money.

My partner and I went for dinner. Service was adequate but not real friendly. My partner ordered lamb chops on special and I ordered chicken kiev but was told it would take over 1/2 hour so I changed to a hamburger. The food arrived and the meat in both meals were way overcooked. In both cases it was tough and dry. Both meals had an option of baked potatoes rather than fries and the potatoes were ok.When the bill came we were charged a 12.5 percent fee on top of the bill even though we asked to pay the bill in pounds.I would not recommend this place.

It wasn't the first time for me to go there. It's a nice place which has indoors and outdoors seats. The waitress was very friendly and professional. The food was served quickly and it was very pleasant. I'll come back in my next visit.

Found this restaurant when staying nearby. It looked cheap and cheerful with food that isn't pretentious. Four of us visited and we all had a lovely meal. The staff were friendly but not too much. It was quiet when we got there but soon filled up with people. Would definitely visit again if in the area.

We visited to have lunch while at the Neuroligical Clinic on a Saturday. Service was excellent, food freshly cooked and very good, at an incredibly reasonable price for London

Seated outside wanting a meal before getting train three persons one ordered fish and chips, second scampi and chipwthird chicken wings in BBQ sauce. All came with salad. Between two And half hours and four hours later all three taken ill. Nothing else eaten in between.Query saladWould not eat here again.

I ordered roasted chicken served with rice and mixed salad and a cup of tea. The total amount should have been less than £9, but it turned out to be more than £10. No idea what the extra charge was. Large portion, but the taste of the chicken wasn't as I had expected. It was dry and quite bland.

One of the fave places in London,Russel Square....always like to check the same places visited before..This time went with some friends for a quick bite,once again had a great time,weather was lovely,we sat outside,had a burger with a blue cheese,chicken stuffed with ham and cheese and baby back ribs....service was a bit slow,but the owner offered a coffee on the house,we thought it was a nice gesture!

I went back to cagney's with my family for my mum's birthday. The atmosphere and staff were incredibly friendly and attentive. The food was perfectly cooked, good quality, generous portion for a good price. Would go back and highly recommend.

If you love frozen food reheated in a microwave you'll love Cagney's Restaurant.Marvel at the delights that they have on offer such as the driest chicken Kiev in Europe. Just like good old home cooking, if no one in your home could cook.But seriously the food was barely edible and the restaurant itself was empty and left a lot to be desired.Total day ruiner, would not recommend to my worst enemy.

STAPLE found in meal amongst chicken. We were so horrified. Wrong burger to our table by comparison ws minor drama. No confidence that the kitchen is being safely run. Charming staff ,fresh ingredients, pretty surroundings, cheap meal next to v expensive restaurants and good hotels. Given two stars because until sharp object found in food it was lovely. Item taken before we could photo it for proof and recept showing reason for refund also taken before we could photo it for proof. Has this happened there before?? They were very slick . .

This is a cosy little restaurant. When we arrived we were greeted warmly and service was prompt. I had the mushroom starter which was very tasty, especially when I added the mayonnaise, which appeared to be home made. My partner had the chicken wings, which came in a portion almost big enough to be a main. They too were delicious, cooked in a bbq sauce. For the mains my partner had a kebab, unfortunately it appeared to be cooked in the same sauce as the chicken wings, but was very tasty nonetheless. My chicken main course was a little dry but still very enjoyable. The salad was very fresh. If I have a complaint it would be that the waiter didn't do a check back during our meal to ensure that everything was ok, but as everything was good I guess it's a small point. Overall we had a good experience, friendly staff, especially the older waiter (possibly the owner), the food was tasty and decent value for this part of town. We will definitely be back to try the burgers.

As other people have said if your looking for fine dining keep on walking. If you do enter you'll get reasonably priced good food in a friendly atmosphere. Its not trying to be the Ritz thankfully, i like the place have been several times, only have one complaint no bitter or light ales!

Cagney's is so archetypically London it hurts.This "American" restaurant is owned by an Egyptian who has his daughter and her friends serving. It's been here forever and it's hard to see why when fashions have changed so dramatically.But it stands as an anathema to corporate chains, homogenous Shoreditchified eateries and the ever increasing threat of gentrification.The walls are adorned with all things James Cagney. A sort of early version of Planet Hollywood.I was invited here by a friend having been to see an Art show at the October Gallery a few minutes walk away. This is a favourite of hers in Bloomsbury and it's not difficult to see why.It's like a time capsule. This is a restaurant as it would have been in London in the 1970's when it opened. The wood chairs, the white table cloths, the red & white veranda. Even the Menu's joke names for Burgers inspired by Cagney like "Yankee Doodle Dandy" (Burger with bacon) & Dirty Rat (Cheeseburger) seem from an era long since past (though seemingly making a reassurance in the Cocktail Market).It's a family owned affair and feels like it. The waitresses joke about being underpaid but then explain, it's fine we know the owner really well and we know where he lives.The food is comfort eating not fine dining. And if your expectations are managed this is a great little place. I had the Public Enemy (Chicken) Kiev, Chips and a side salad, at £9.95 which I genuinely struggled to finish there being so much food. We shared a bottle of a palatable Sauvignon Blanc £14.95.This is the kind of place you come too, to feel like a Londoner. It's different, it's quirky and it exists against all the odds.Do give it a try if you're nearby - the staff will thank you for it.

My partner took me to Cagney’s for my birthday as we had a works party there in December & enjoyed the food & service so much he booked it again. The staff recognized us straight away & came over to say hello. The food from starter to dessert is all fantastic & cannot fault it. We will definitely visit...

Cagneys is the best American restaurant that I have been to during my trip to London. I am an American and I loved the American food they served at their restaurant. Worth mentioning were the baby back ribs. The service was very good, perfect ambiance for an American restaurant in London and their interior was awesome too.I will be visiting them again if I visit London again.

Wow! Best service we've had in London. Friendly and family owned, we had individual attention + great food. Very nice atmosphere and overall a great experience. Would come back for sure!! We had the garlic bread (very good), spaghetti with bolognese sauce, penne with tomato sauce, and penne with olive oil and basil. We all enjoyed our meals!

I've been coming to Cagney's for the past 3 years and thoroughly enjoyed the food and excellent warm service we receive from the staff. The only negative point I'd make would be that they're always very busy but I guess that's a plus :)

I went to this restaurant with a group of friends and we were really shocked with the attention and the ambient. The restaurant seems warm when you see it but once you enter you find yourself in a regular restaurant with poor light and the waiters checking their phones bored. Once we had sit down, one of the waiters rushed us ordering and after that, the order was wrongly taken since 2 of 5 dishes were wrong and we had to wait until they had them done again.The size of the dishes was short if we keep in mind the price of them.After this you would expect that at least the bill would be ok, but there was not explain what was what, we were added a 12.5% tip without even they asked if we found that everything was correct and we were also rushed out of the restaurant once we paid.At the end we enjoyed going out of there and going a really nice pub near by and enjoyed the rest of our trip.

This was just a walk in for dinner one night on my own. Had ribs and fries (chips really). It was a nice setting, more of an evening café I would say but it was just lovely. Staff were great, no rush, looked after me really well.

I am an Indian from America and was visiting London. I crave for American food and was looking for an American restaurant and discovered this one Cagneys restaurant. The restaurant served the best American food in London (I'd tried others too) and their collection of wine were incredible.I had baby back ribs which was smoked and barbequed to perfection and chargrilled breast of chicken which was flamed and grilled in the perfect ratio.Their tortilla chips were like cherries on the cake and I would love to visit them for the rest of my stay in London.If you're in or planning on visiting London, then you must go to this American restaurant as they serve the best American cuisines that you'd agree as well.

I would describe this eatery as a café rather than a restaurant. The quality of food was similar to a 'Joe's Café'. Me and my 6 year old daughter ate here after visiting GOSH. We both ordered a cold sandwich and a bowl of chips. There was no kids menu. We waited a lifetime for the sandwiches which I couldn't understand as they were cold. The chips were forgotten off the order and took 10 minutes to be cooked and then brought to us. I asked for a soda water and lime and the waitress had no idea what I was talking about. She brought me a bottle of sparkling water and asked me if I meant that I wanted lemonade with it. There was a major communication breakdown. The sandwiches were very bog standard served with a tasteless salad and the chips were greasy and very much café-like! I also found it off putting that the toilets were downstairs right next to the open-doored kitchen. I was disappointed and refused to pay the service charge.

We decided to eat here as it was just around the corner from our hotel, and on a rainy Saturday evening we didn't feel like walking far. It was the best decision we made! The menu was quirky - everything has a link to James Cagney, and there was plenty to choose from. The service was quite quick, and the staff went out of their way to be friendly and polite. The food itself was lovely, well cooked, and plentiful. We both very much enjoyed it and would definitely eat there again if in London.

We had a great time at this restaurant and the owner and staff were very friendly. I don't know why other people says that the owner was rude. However, people have bad days but my experience was very good. The food for the matter was the best and American ribs were the best on offer.
