Visited Caffi Siop Fawr just last week, looking forward to their bacon roll with fabulous bacon jam. But, sadly, no longer on the menu, so we ordered two breakfasts instead. Wow! What a treat! This was top notch restaurant-quality food, and so well presented. The little pea shoots were so tasty, and the garlic jam finished it all off with finesse. Staff, as ever, were so attentive and efficient - always good to chat with them. Diolch yn fawr iawn i chi i gyd, yn arbennig am sicrhau staff Cymraeg drwy'r siop a'r caffi. Excellent food – a really imaginative, and relatively inexpensive menu. Their pot of tea is a treat – leaf tea in a pot with a proper strainer.

Sublime, delicious flavours, attractive looking plates an excellent example of how to serve your food. Absolutely delightful smiley service. Coffee a bit of a let down as it’s (Lavazza over roasted ) and bitter ,in my opinion. Use a little known way of removing some bitterness is by adding a pinch of salt. Shame they don’t use our local Poblado coffee roaster!

Having frequented this shop and café numerous times when it was owned by Kerfoots, I was looking forward to seeing this lovely old building again. The purpose of this visit was solely for breakfast, but it was great to see that the new owners have retained its character. The cafe was clean and tidy and well Covid signposted although the arrows on the floor were a little confusing. The staff who greeted me were friendly, courteous and welcoming and gave me a menu together with a track and trace form saying that if I sat at a table, a waitress would come over to take my order. Despite the on line menu showing they serve bacon sandwiches, I was surprised to note that the café menu didn’t contain that choice, which the waitress confirmed. Not being very fond of muffins, I then asked whether they could replace the muffin with toasted bread on the poached eggs menu, to which she responded with an emphatic “No”, so I chose the poached eggs as shown on the menu. I must admit that it came as a surprise that it wasn’t possible to swap the muffin for toast, as the menu dictated they should have bread in the kitchen because the soup of the day was being served with bread and butter. The eggs were very tasty, once I’d moved the excess rich sauce to the side of the plate and the Cappuccino coffee was good although the cup was small despite the revised price of £3, an increase of 20%. Taking into account the lack of flexibility regarding the bread, the variance between the on line and actual café menu choices combined with the substantial price increases of the food as well as the coffee, I regret to say that it was overall a slightly disappointing experience. In saying that, it should not detract from the welcome received from the serving staff, who appeared not to be in a position to deviate at all from the menu choices in response to customer requests. It is my belief that we should never look for the negatives in life, always remembering that it so easy to criticise, hence the vast majority of my Tripadvisor reviews have been positive and complimentary, but a review should be an honest one based on our experience for the benefit of future customers and the success and growth of the business.

Well the lift wasn't working and the signage was therefore a little confusing, but we decided to run the gauntlet and walk up the stairs (contrary to the arrows directing the one-way route). Our efforts paid off as there was lots of spacious seating upstairs in the caffi. The whole place felt very professional, from the elegantly printed track and trace cards to the designer crockery. Staff were friendly and helpful, quickly providing the tea and cake we'd ordered. All delicious 😋 as well as lovely clean toilet facilities on the top floor and easy Covid-safe contactless payment. Your only problem will be trying to resist spending a fortune on the beautiful merchandise in the shop!

After a morning in Portmeirion, we decided to go Porthmadog for lunch and came here. Me and the girlfriend had the Welsh rarebit for the first time and loved it. I had fish and chips with peas which was nice and my girlfriend had a Chicken Milanese which she enjoyed. The staff were friendly especially with one of the children was awkward with her choice but after she saw her sisters Chicken chunks with chips, she decided to have the same and she liked it. We live locally, and just hoping to get a sandwich and a drink. We were told that we had to select from their £20 menu (£10 off government incentive). This meant having two courses. They had small selection of children's meals with no set menu for them , however as adults were having two courses, felt that we had to purchase starters for them also or they would be sitting there watching us eat. Childrens meals had a lot of herbs and salads on the side, and I asked for no parmesan on pasta, which arrived with it all over. Price for meal for our family £80+ , and this was with £10 off government incentive, they refused to discount the children's meals with government incentive, as they were not on the set meal (disgrace). As a local family, felt this was a total ripoff, taking advantage of tourists to the area, as well as using the government incentive to con people. Will never return.

After a long drive up to North Wales, a meal in this restaurant was a real treat. It is on the first floor of the Portmeirion Shop just on the roundabout in the High Street (there are two others in Porthmadog) and is a quiet relaxing space. There are a range of snacks - we had the Welsh rarebit - and some amazing cakes if you are looking for a snack. A few days later we met friends there for an afternoon meal and can recommend the fish, the chowder, the steak - all cooked fresh on the premises. The Eton Mess was amazing too! The staff are friendly, welcoming and helpful, especially if there are specific dietary needs. This is a regular place to eat for us whenever visiting Porthmadog.

My husband and I (both pensioners) visited here in early December. To reach the restaurant you pass through the lovely, well laid out and bright shop selling kitchen alia, crockery and fancy goods. The restaurant is on the first floor, (there is a lift if needed). The restaurant is very light and airy, nice furniture and decor. We ordered a Welsh rarebit with bacon, goats cheese and salsa on bruschetta. Both were delicious and nicely presented. The waitress was friendly and efficient. The coffees we also ordered were good too. The floor above has furnishings for sale. Toilets are available. Would recommend this place.

I've eaten in the previous cafe here which was lovely and was keen to experience the new Siop Fawr Caffi after hearing mixed reviews. Firstly the refurbishment has been done to a very high standard, it is bright, comfortable and welcoming. Being able to see the kitchen is a nice touch. I liked the menu and it's individuality, you can get a boring sandwich and jacket potato anywhere, why not be a little bit different. The service and staff was efficient and friendly. The food was very good, we had welsh rabit and open ham sandwich - no complaint here it was delicious. We overheard others complimenting the lobsgows, I did have food envy. I thought it was reasonably priced. We will definitely be returning. Thank you /Diolch.

I can only think that notice has been taken of previous reviewers here because, after we had ogled the cakes and taken notice of the notice telling us waitress service, we were served almost as soon as we sat down. Excellent coffee and lemon drizzle cake and scone. The café is light and airy and the staircases are wonderful. Loos upstairs where there is furniture and lighting etc for sale. We visited twice in about 3-4 weeks, both for Sunday lunch. On both visits the food has been excellent and the service timely and friendly (we were recognised as having returned). Being a group of mixed ages and tastes we were all catered for from trad Sunday lunch through to veggie offering. 2nd time was busier than the 1st, but the serviced didn't feel any slower. We had cake, coffees and all up to scratch. To clarify a couple of the comments - Portmeirion didn't take over Kerfoots The shop had closed and this building could have been left to decay. However the star of the show has to be the original wooden spiral staircase and the stained glass Coppola.Yes it is new, and I'm sure there are refinements to be made, but we found all the local staff to be welcoming, effective and courteous. Worth a visit.

Before mentioning the restaurant I have to say that shop is brilliant and has some really unusual items. We have now been in the restaurant several times and unlike many others have had no problem with the service. The food may be a little more expensive but you are in a class restaurant and is expected. My only problem is that it does not feel classy, it is so noisy, with the feel of a works canteen, which is not helped by viewing people working in the kitchen. Obviously this may suit the younger people but to an oldy I find that it does not have the special feel that the old Kerfoots had.I wish the management well because they have put a lot of effort into place

Restaurant is now an echo chamber, very little personality. Staff slow to welcome us despite it being relatively quiet. Escalope of chicken with mixed salad turns out to be a rather dry escalope with a few green leaves - NOT a mixed salad by any means. Poor value. We have been looking forward to coming here for lunch. We decided to wait until it had been open for a few weeks before coming. We were very disappointed. Upon arrival it was not clear whether it was waitress service or if you had to order at the till. None of the staff seemed interested in welcoming us or directing us. We found a table and managed to find a staff member who told us it was waitress service. We then had to hunt down a menu. We chose a light lunch with a glass of wine. We had to wait approximately 30 minutes before our order was taken - it was fairly busy but the staff were definitely not rushed off their feet. We then had another 20 minute wait for our food - even though it was asparagus with poached eggs which obviously doesn't take much cooking. We didn't even get our drinks. No one came to check if everything was okay. If they had we could have asked where our drinks were. So in the middle of eating we had to try to flag down a waitress to ask for our drinks. By the time our wine arrived, we had finished eating! So we then had to sit drinking our wine afterwards instead of with our food. Not impressed at all. As for the food, for the price we paid, we did expect more than 4 sticks of asparagus with the eggs, and there was barely any truffle oil on the dish. Not planning to return any time soon.

We have just visited the cafe for lunch. The service was slow but the food was nice upon arrival. I ordered my toddler a single sausage as she has a small appetite. When we went to pay I was absolutely disgusted to find I had been charged £3 for a small single sausage!!! I asked to speak to a manager who was so rude, unhelpful and confrontational. She actually tried to justify the cost in several quite frankly ridiculous ways. Firstly she said we were charged that as my daughter had had 50% of a childs meal so instead of £6.50 it was £3, I explained that a small sausage is not 50% of a childs meal. She then went on to say 'I should have negotiated a price when ordering' I couldn't believe the audacity of her. When I explained I didnt think I'd need to negotiate a price for a sausage she finally said that I wasn't just paying for a sausage but for a professional team to cook it???!! This is disgusting customer service and an absolute RIP off and unaccaptable! Needless to say we will not be returning. I'd advise staying clear - there are much nicer and more friendly places to eat. AVOID!!

Me and Hubby had a browse around here this morning (Tuesday). These large corner premises by the roundabout used to belong to Kerfoots but it has now been revamped by Portmeirion. I am pleased that they have retained the elegant wooden spiral staircase (there is also a lift access) and the colourful stained glass ceiling dome. On the main ground floor they were selling quality kitchen ware/utensils etc. To the left of the entrance they were selling gardening ornaments. The cafe/restaurant was on the middle floor. I looked at the bi-lingual menu but it seemed a bit pricey for my purse (although the food was locally sourced). The top floor displayed home accessories. There was also a toilet which was clean to use. In fact everywhere was spick and span (I could even smell the recently applied paintwork). The staff were smartly dressed and smiling.
