Caffè Nero in North Hertfordshire

Always grab my Sunday coffee from here. Friendly service, busy at times, but we get served when we do. Great coffee. Highly recommended

You're almost guaranteed to get a good drink here. My wife prefers the coffee here to any of the other chain cafes, and I think the same about the tea (have a small tea to get a decent brew). Hitchin's branch does get busy at times but it is worth the wait. There are of course lots of other lovely independent places too but sometimes you know what you want.

UPDATE: 15.04.2025 - your trainee barista Zoe is amazing! She has served me a few times now, remembered my drink and has been an absolute joy, she is super friendly, always smiling and despite our interactions being brief, we have managed to establish a rapport. Thank you Zoe. This is where a lot of my lunchtime drinks (hot and cold) come from. The staff are generally friendly, efficient, and chatty. Tilley in particular is often in the store when I visit, and he always goes above and beyond. On 07.02.2025 Tilley recommended a new hot drink to me and he made it to perfection. The Hitchin store is generally clean and tidy; and this is a Café Nero branch that I would recommend.

Find this Nero to be really friendly. Staff are really friendly and nice. Coffee is good. I work from this coffee shop regularly and find it to be a good space. 👍

Caffè Nero is located near the small square of Hitchin. The staff is competent and friendly. The cappuccino is very good (I’m Italian). Excellent Italian Muzzi Panettoncini. Very clean ,toilet for disabled people. Beautiful environment. I really recommend it. Open at 7 am to 6 pm ( 7 days a week) Wifi free

Went in after work on Saturday for a takeaway at around 17:45 to be told they were closed, they close at 18:00 i checked as i went in, why stay open until 18:00 if you can't manage a takeaway coffee at quarter to. I wouldn't mind but I also work in town and have been in at that time before because I have had to stay late to cash up after dealing with customers until the closing minutes, and I have been served without issue. Why it was an issue today is beyond me. I won't criticise them for standing around chatting at the time because we all do it I get it. But if Nero doesn't want people's custom then fine I'll go elsewhere, coffee is better elsewhere anyway only popped in because I had a voucher. Won't bother again.

Enticed in today by the pictures of the 'Millionaires Hot Chocolate' and the 'Pistachio Hot Chocolate'. What was delivered looked nothing like the advertisement - don't bother ordering these, folks.

Nice big airy Cafe Nero in Hitchin which has very friendly staff. It was evening time and so calm atmosphere inside. Nero coffee is stronger than cafes around which i really need after couple of drinks. Anyhow takeaway my coffee but coming to enjoy the atmosphere and coffee again.

Tables not cleared, trays of cups everywhere, positively the worst cafe mocha I have ever tasted, bitter, milk too hot & burned. Queue so slow wasn’t worth returning it. Left it on the table - it will probably be still there 🤣

I’ve used to love this coffee shop because Nero is my absolute favourite coffee. On the 5th of September(my birthday) I went to treat myself with a coffee and I’ve asked if they do the honey oat latte and the guy with glasses said yes, when he gave me the coffee I’ve asked him why I don’t have the cream and sprinkle and he said they don’t do it anymore and they only do the syrup which is not what he said when I’ve ordered. I’ve asked for a regular size but the cup was a small one and the coffee tasted bitter and it had too much froth, it was more like a cappuccino and not a latte, it was horrible. I’ve sipped twice and throw it in the nearest bin. So disappointed, I’m not going back there any time soon.

Busy. Crowded. All tables were covered in used up coffee cups and no staff to clean up. Revolting!

Standard cafe Nero coffee...quick service on a weekdays, Sat outside, all as expected really, nit much more to it

I have loved going to this Nero for a while now, but the quality of the coffee and service levels have really fallen recently. Senior staff who used to make amazing coffee and offer fantastic service don’t seem to be around much anymore. Trainee barista is great but remaining staff seem far more interested in their conversations than their customers. Such a pity; won’t be visiting anymore.

Personally my favourite coffee shop

I usually go to Greggs at lunch time, but it has been closed for over a month for a refurb. Starbucks is ok, but thought I’d try here for a change. First of all, the stuff I normally order in Starbucks seemed cheaper here which I was very happy about, plus when I handed over the panini to be toasted, they offered to bring it to the table once it was ready rather than me needing to wait. Quality of food was good and all the staff seemed cheerful and happy to help. The interior was nice and airy, not too crammed in which is nice. I would come back!

I've been in Neros twice now, and I'm very impressed with the service. Very friendly and helpful, and good coffee.

I ordered a medium blended hazelnut latte. I love their hazelnut, it's so rich and tasty. I also ordered a blueberry muffin which was very delicious. I will be back to try their other tasty treats!

Ordered Ice Latte. Almost finished in the blender. Person behind me orders same thing. End up with half a drink with the rest topped up with ice as barrista too lazy to make a new one for the next person and instead split it in 2. Ended up with a cup of ice after a couple mouthfuls.

Good size Nero, nice ambience and a variety of seating to suit. Staff were friendly, patient and accommodating. Coffee was good and the babyccino went down well with my 2 year old.

Service is great in here, staff seem to know their regulars and have a nice relationship going. They are very welcoming and friendly to all and the coffee is very good too. The layout of the place is a bit compromised, not particularly relaxing but it's quite small inside...

The coffee its ok but, as we know, expensive

Nero is normally my favourite coffee chain but the one in Hitchin is absolutely dreadful, save yourself a trip. I ordered a flat white and a pastry at around 9am. It wasn't particularly busy in there but the lady behind the counter was so rude, and literally chucking things round behind the counter. The pastry was stale definitely not fresh and the flat white, my gosh, I literally just left it on the table in the end, the milk wasn't steamed, the coffee tasted dire. Just don't waste your money on this one, worst experience of any paid for coffee in my life.

Popped in for coffee with my Hubby & my Mum.

I don’t think spray cream should be curdled should it? Staff did not seem particularly happy to be there and the coffee prep and therefore flavour is less than enjoyable. I won’t be dropping back in. Everything behind the counter also looks quite dirty and unorganised.

No hot chocolate or tiramisu cake. The two things we came in for =(

Very slow service looks run down

Another coffee shop which allow dogs. If the was a dedicated area, then fine; customers could choose. On my visit, dogs were barking loudly inside and others were off the lead and running around the shop, jumping on chairs. Disrupted my chat with a friend(who is scared of dogs).

The girl who takes the order comes across rude and my pistachio latte was very disappointing. Went again and they had run out of oat milk. The drink today was better but she should definitely improve the way she talks to customers and how she was throwing the empty milk cartons to the side from afar.

Disposable cups and cutlery used in café. Service was extremely slow even though there were about 4 or 5 assistants. Our daughter had cheesecake served on a paper napkin. Dreadful! Certainly will NOT use this café again.

Staff usually OK albeit a litte direct sometimes when busy. The biggest frustration is that in 8/10 visits they will only have takeaway cups available even if eating/drinking in. The reasoning varies from staffing issues to dishwasher problems. It's not the same experience and shouldn't occur with such frequency.

Near end of day. A few things had run out and the staff, whilst efficient and polite, were flagging a bit. Sat on the pavement seating, which is always good. Coffee was splendid

Had a wonderful” mystery” hot chocolate here today. The barista was so good, really helpful and friendly. Would definitely visit again. This is how customer service should be!

Looked a bit shabby from outside when compared to other coffee shops in Hitchin but staff great, drinks good size and reasonable prices. Better selection of cake needed and description did not match the display, which could be an issue if you have an allergy so make sure you double check. Apart from that, it's ok.

Great location. Beautiful town. This Cafe is very tatty, in need of a serious deep clean and complete re decoration. The toilets are filthy and again in need of redecoration / refurb. Staff serving drinks in-house in takeaway cups because they have not got round to washing up . Their words not mine . In a town with many many coffee places Cafe Nero need to raise their game. Place needs more staff with ability to clear tables, wash up and clean the place …

Poor state of things today. No tables cleared. Apparently 'short staffed' so drinks served in takeaway cups though it is only 4.00 p.m. But there are 3 guys here talking to each other! Bring back the women!

Achingly slow service, only one member of staff behind the counter. Coffee was decent, food was better than expected, just don't go there if you're in a rush!

Gruesome service. Would have been zero stars if possible. I don't normally write Google reviews but this was some of the worst service I can remember. It really took the biscuit. It is a shame because Caffè Nero is usually very good. Barista was on her own and obviously unhappy, her body language screamed 'I don't want to be here'. She positively rolled her eyes when we arrived, especially when my daughter wanted a fruit booster. The 'new' Green Booster was unavailable. We were told we had to have paper cups and that the toilets were out of use due to a plumbing issue. I suspect that the real reason was that the cleaning was done and she wanted to get away ASAP, (the store was close to closing). I realise that working in a coffee stop is not everyone's cup of tea but many people manage to remain polite and welcoming even when very busy. Maybe employ more staff and pay them after closing to clean up. I'm a great believer that if a business is open then it should offer a full service. I did wonder what the point was in being open at all. Just to pay to be annoyed. It certainly spoilt our afternoon.

The coffee is good. However the hitchin cafe neros is quite unclean and some staff, whilst I appreciate they are busy, are quite unprofessional and dont take much care when making drinks.

Flat white is my favourite sexy coffee. Not huge, not too milky and full of taste. Without doubt this is the best of the (many) coffee shops in Hitchin. One star missing because outside space is very limited but soon we should be back on those comfortable sofas in the window

Visited Cafe Nero today, great coffee, excellent food, outstanding service from Chris, all in all a lovely experience, track and trace in place together with sanitation stations will definitely be going back lockdown permitting 👍🙂😷

I don't think they realised there's a pandemic going on! Tables still close together, no social distancing, no track and trace signs. Toilets disgusting! Never going in there again!

Was with a friend and popped in for a coffee, great coffee nice atmosphere the server was on her own bless her she coped very well under pressure

Not great. The click and collect service wasn't working because the in-store terminal hadn't been charged. Order was declined. All a bit of a shambles.

Nicely spaced tables, sanitizer and making sure everyone registered on the NHS or Nero app gets my vote a hot sausage roll and good coffee on a miserable wet day, what's not to like. (Apart from the cardboard cup and weird food container, it was a sausage roll ,not noodles ! ) Still my preferred coffee shop

The store is a bit tired and at the time of visiting was was very short staffed that coupled with the Christmas crowds made my visit not overly pleasent.

Covid friendly. Efficient service, good food and variety of hot and cold drinks.
