Caffe Eighty Nine in Canterbury

What a surprising little cafe, it shares its space with curio shop “Polkadot”. Great welcome, space to sit amongst the curios. We had hot chocolate and a latte together with a toasted tea cake. Whilst relaxing we browsed the items around us, and found a couple of little “stocking fillers” for Christmas Well worth a visit.

Beware!!! Got a takeaway out cappuccino, absolutely scolded the roof of my mouth, now I'm renound for a bit of an asbestos mouth the way I drink my coffee, so this must have been pretty intense! It's now the evening the roof of my mouth is extremely sore, there has been skin hanging off it !! It's painful to eat There's hot coffee, but this is ridiculous!!, I thought there was a regulation to how hot coffee is served. I wasn't even warned the coffee is hot, surely the woman must have realised it was scolding, 8hrs later still in pain.

delicious cafe always kind staff. get a little biscoff with your coffee what’s better. please can you put a hook on the back of the door in the toilet !!! 🚽

Quiet and cozy with friendly staff who make great coffee.

Drop by for a coffee on a day trip, the coffee and scone were very good.. but want to highlight that when I forgot my bag there, they were very kind to work with me in getting it picked up by Royal mail, and safely back to me Throughly appreciate the kindness and help

Coffee is always wonderful. Staff make you feel as it's your home. Even brought their products.

Such a wonderful find! Friendly, happy staff. We had a breakfast bagel which was perfect for what we needed, before a long walk along the beach front. We also had coffees and smoothies. Yum !

Went in for lunch today, had a bacon bap, asked for crispy bacon, and the lady cooked it spot on, very tasty most appreciated

What a lovely find , stopped off for the castle and we found this gem , fantastic bacon bap snd excellent cappuccino, and a lovely waitress thst got two sausages for Chester .

I always head to this cafe when I’m in the area. Was so looking forward to a panini as I’ve always enjoyed them. Sat down looked at the menu and was so disappointed none on the menu! What a shame. Will have to find somewhere else now for lunch 😞

My friends and I had a really lovely time here, really friendly staff welcoming atmosphere. Good selection of smoothies milkshakes and other drinks, great cake selection too. Will definitely return! :)

Very disappointed to see there are no sandwiches or panini on the lunch menu anymore Looks like a cost cutting exercise ..avoid for lunch at all costs now as options are severely limited

Had a really awful batch of coffees here- so so watery and tasteless. What a shame.

We arrived 15 minutes before it was due to open and a young lady was setting out the tables and chairs. We asked if we could sit outside and wait for it to open and she said yes. Another lady turned up with a dog and I assumed she was the manager as she said rather abruptly that it would be a while before they opened. We said we did not mind waiting and she said she rather not have us sitting outside as it ‘attracted other customers’ to sit outside too !!!!! And there I was thinking a cafe would want customers. She threw in a sorry at the end but it was one of those ‘sorrys’ thrown in without any empathy. The experience left a bitter taste in our mouths and as locals to the area, we will now be avoiding this cafe. I suggest with so much competition in the High Street, the staff try to be a little more friendly and welcoming.

Lovely little coffee shop with some nice cakes. The Malteser tiffin was delicious. Good outdoor seating for when the sun is out

My favourite café in Tankerton hopefully the limited menu will expand soon. Meanwhile my sausage bap was prepared fresh and the tea pots are a generous size.

Walking through Tankerton trying to find somewhere to eat and everything was closed. We came across this little cafe and was very surprised. The coffee was beautiful, not many places can make a cappuccino that’s actually a cappuccino but the taste and foam ratio was so good I had to ask for the brand of coffee! Panini and Bagel were toasted perfectly and we also had scones which were wonderful too. Much better than I originally thought very pleasantly surprised!

Lovely little spot. First time visiting as not from the local area. Food and drinks were lovely for a chilly day! Staff were friendly and welcoming! Would definitely come back again! Thank you all ❤️

I visited here today with my family and enjoyed a very pleasant lunch with my wife and kids. There was a good gluten free selection which was great for my coeliac wife. There were also lots of options that suited the kids. Friendly service and reasonably priced. Definitely worth a visit if you are visiting the Tankerton seaside!

Nice place to get a cappuccino.

Been here couple of times over the past weeks.Nice place to take a break,coffee is some of the best I have tasted locally would certainly recommend. Also has a nice selection of cards and gifts to browse.

Friendly atmosphere, welcoming staff, not massive menu selection, but we each chose an item and found it well prepared and very tasty. A lovely place to stop for lunch or a quick bite, very reasonably priced too!

Friendly Cafe and Card Shop Really worth a visit if your in Tankerton (Whitstable)

The cafe is in a nice building with good facilities. Most importantly the coffee was very good and the staff polite.

We came here a few times 3 or 4 years ago, and then it was always a winner. They have changed the layout to include a card shop, but the outward signs looked good. Unfortunately that's where appearances deceived. We both had paninis, one ham, one tuna, and they were just grim and basic, served with a handful of limp salad, no effort made. We had a beer and a milkshake, both of which were tepid, my glass was dirty, and the milkshake was thin and tasteless. They had an extensive and exciting-looking ice cream menu that looked promising, and we were looking forward to getting something special. Well, you first need to get a waitress to notice you exist. They are too busy looking at their phones even though the place was empty. After a way-too long wait, we eventually flagged one down and ordered waffles with ice cream. It looked nice, but the much-hyped waffles were stone cold and rubbery, and clearly not fresh. My wife sent hers straight back. I persisted, but it was just tasteless and we paid and left, hugely disappointed. Why bother running a Cafe and ice cream bar when you have absolutely no concept of service or food presentation? Awful. Just awful.

We were visiting family Tankerton Road and walked by this caffe early Sunday and decided to stop and had coffee and bacon bap. Great value and coffee was very refreshing , staff were very friendly and accommodating will definitely use again.

This place used to be lovely! It has really gone downhill since Covid. It is a card shop merged with a coffee shop. It is often manned by kids who don't know what they are doing. The food has gone downhill dramatically.

I used to visit here all the time but in recent months the service has got worse and the food has gone downhill dramatically. With Tankerton High street becoming more vibrant this business has not kept up.

V nice café, good range of food plus sells gifts / cards etc. The connected ince cream parlour next door was an absolute joy selling multiple traditional and unusual flavours.

Lovely little café and gift shop. Delicious freshly made lunch and superb home made ice cream sundae. Very friendly with some lovely unusual gifts for sale too.

I love it here, I’ve visited a few times and it never disappoints. The food is wonderful, it’s my favourite place to meet up with friends for a catch up!

Popped in enroute to Montrose. Fantastic sourdough,avocado, mushroom breakfast. Definitely go again.

Great little cafe I came across whilst needing to kill some time and grab a bite to eat. Really refreshing to see gluten free scones available and some different gf bits. I had a peanut butter cake type thingy and it was lush! Also a dissaranno hot chocolate - a first - and was amazing. Was nice to be able to get a gf panini also. Really happy I found this place.

Nice place for light lunch. Menu is small and simple, but fine. Bagels are good. Nice selection of unique cakes and sweet treats. Ice creams and milkshakes are great.

Small cafe with extensive drink menu choice. Usual snack options available. Toasted teacakes we're very fresh and enjoyable. There is a good selection of cards, balloons etc to take away as premises doubles up as card shop.

Not only do they serve amazing coffee and food. I guarantee if you have a card in mind - you will find it in there. I have just bought 4 Christmas cards - all just perfect! Far more selections than the card shops in canterbury.

Quaint venue with a decent menu selection. Friendly & attentive staff which is a big plus - my kids love the ice cream options. Would encourage more gluten free options in the future.

We didn't go in the Royal. Cafe 89 was brilliant. My friend is Coeliac and you can always rely on them for gluten free food. The food and staff were lovely.

Delicious Brownie Waffles with ice cream

We ate here during Lockdown and sat outside, although we could have sat inside if we had wanted. Staff observed social distancing and all wore masks. Service was good and food was nice. Price was very reasonable.

This has become a favourite - it is small but offers a good choice of light meals and with very good coffee served by pleasant staff. And ask to see the Dolce gelato menu.

On a wet Sunday, I found it was noisy and humid inside. The sound of a building site or someone just grinding coffee and attempting to bang 6 inch nails into the counter made the background music a nonsense. Customers had to raise their voices...

Great little cafe, our favourite stop whenever we visit Tankerton. situated in the high street which is not as busy as Whitstable so you can usually find somewhere to park close by. Lovely cafe, friendly staff, fair prices, good snack/brunch menu, small forecourt with tables for a sunny day.

I like this cafe but I think the food is very overpriced. Charging £2.20 for an apple juice and 60p for a syrup shot in your coffee is extortion. It is Tankerton High St not the West End it has put me off returning.
