Caffe Cardosi in Highland

Popped in for a mocha before a hair appointment, place was packed which was lovely to see, managed to grab a window seat which is my favourite place to sit, mocha was perfect. Lovely selection of cakes and fab choice on their menu aswell as daily specials

Lovely cafe in the heart of Thurso. Service was very quick, coffee and milkshake lovely. Great selection of cakes, coffees, and light meals. Very clean cafe, great staff, comfortable seating, and some seating at the windows. We would definitely visit again. A shame it closes at 4pm though.

Lovely place for coffee though nowadays having a teabag handed to you with a pot of water isn't good for tea drinkers. Cakes lovely! Why does the place have big windows but half covered over? It's great to be able to see out at passers-by and people watch!

Good option if you want to stop by to have a snack/lunch or get a coffee in Thurso. The place is clean and they have a nice selection of cakes and sweets for a treat.

Coffee with syrup! Hurrah! After travelling the NC500, we found not many of the remote coffee shops had syrup. This shop has them, the coffee is excellent, not too hot and delicious. We had a cheese scone with jam, it was amazing.

Last week the wife and I went off to Orkney on the ferry on Wednesday to visit family and decided to stop off in to Caffe Cardosi for coffee and lunch on the Tuesday before heading to check into hotel. It was absolutely heaving so fair play to staff for managing to keep up. Ordered an Americano and a tea for the wife which arrived quickly, Americano was a little weak but wouldn’t put us off coming back in future (coffees were made by different person but didn’t catch their name either). Just want to make a special note that the person who served us was great, I didn’t catch her name but she had a foreign accent (I want to say Russian or Romanian by my guess but I could be wrong, she was an older woman). She was polite and chatty and was quick in getting our order in and bringing us our food. This was a nice with how busy it was that she still took the time to give great customer service. I would definitely come back after this experience, great customer service makes all the difference!

Member of staff just pointed at a table for me. I then waited about 10 minutes for my order to be taken. Food was fine but nothing special. I then waited 20 minutes with an empty plate in front of me. I did fancy a cake and hot drink after but I was fed up waiting so I eventually went to the till to pay. Not once was I asked if everything was ok. Would not return.

Had coffee and scones. As always the fruit scone was lovely, the Cheese and caramelised onion scone was really really tasty. They were very busy but we waited hardly any time at all . Well done to All the staff on such a warm and muggy day. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Couldn’t decide wether to post this but feel it needs to be said as it’s happened on more than one occasion. Went in with the family and one of my sons first time ordered a hot chocolate with marshmallow with cream, got a hot chocolate with nothing on it and tasted weak and more just like warm milk, not the biggest drama in the world but was still disappointing for my son who’s autistic and likes the same drink everytime and granted Cardosi’s normally make it perfectly! Another time we went in and again my son ordered a hot chocolate with all the works and got given a mocha. I didn’t catch the name of the person who made the drinks but it was the same person both times. I understand it’s easy for drinks to be forgotten or mixed up as it was incredibly busy both days I was in but still just frustrating. The woman who made the drinks was polite when serving us and dressed really nicely compared to the others, but just something to be noted for future! Other than those little mishaps the food was good and all the staff were great!

Visit Cafe Cardosi regularly and have never been disappointed. ALL the staff are friendly and helpful ,even when busy . Coffee and cake fresh and tasty as always.

Came for lunch on busy Saturday afternoon. Friendly, attentive staff who attended to me in a timely manner. Although it was a smaller portion than expected, and I did need a cake to fill me up! The baking looked lovely and fresh. However, I did notice my coffee did take longer than expected, the lady making it (who I assume was the manager/owner as she was wearing her own loud clothing compared to the other black clothed staff) did not bare a smile on her face and was slow and unorganised. Kudos to the rest of the staff as they were brilliant and the manager is the only thing that would put me off returning.

Parked up in Thurso after a 5 a.m. start from Stirling. Had the full breakfast, which was piping hot and second-to-none. A very large cup of coffee to go with it, and first class service. i was particularly impressed with the waitress who noticed that my 4-year old grandson was looking longingly at the cake display after asking for a cupcake, and brought him one out very quickly, which disappeared equally quickly. I always pop in here if I have time to kill while waiting for the ferry, but this was the first time I'd had the breakfast, which I heartily recommend.

Was back up and thought we’d try again, managed to get a couple of specials this time and they were really good but didn’t appreciate being called “my dear” by a girl young enough to be my granddaughter(made me feel ancient). Missed our lovely waitress from last time she was so nice and helpful.

Popped in, had a lovely breakfast, avocado on toast, hot salmon and scrambled egg was tremendous! Will visit again - thanks.

Lovely coffee. Lovely staff. Would definitely recommend and return for sure. I left my sunglasses and the waiter made sure I got them back - delighted as those sunglasses have been all over the world with me! Asset to Thurso. Good job!

Called in to this cafe for a sandwich and we were disappointed with the standard of the food. We ordered a chicken sandwich but unfortunately there was no chicken so we opted for bacon which tasted extremely odd.

We visited Caffè Cardosi hoping to have lunch but were disappointed as everything we asked for from the specials was finished (by 1230) and the usual menu isn't very exciting (sandwiches, toasties, baked potatoes). Our waitress was excellent, friendly and couldn't be more helpful, even advising us on how to get to John O'Groats. Eventually we all got something to eat (they were quite busy but it took for ever) 10/10 for our waitress, whose name was Hannah, if it wasn't for her we'd have left, but only 4/10 for the whole experience.

Having found that the place where I intended to eat was closed - contrary to its opening times and without explanation - I went into Caffe Cardosi and was pleased with its warmth, service and choice of baking. It is obviously popular, and rightly so. Service was courteous, helpful and swift. I enjoyed it so much that I went back again the next day.

Cake was nice but coffee was tasteless. Only coffee shop in town but don’t have decent coffee. If you like coffee go elsewhere

This place is nice enough for a cup of coffee, but the food is overpriced and not particularly good. The last time I went here was with my wife. She ordered a 3 cheese toastie, well I had difficulty finding some cheese let alone 3 of them. The cakes etc. are mostly nice. I can't understand why it seems so popular.

The coffee I had was pleasant enough, a good selection of cakes too. However, I don’t understand why some places offer appalling WiFi like at this place. It just means I will go elsewhere in future because I need to use the net when having a coffee break, as indeed do many people.

Lovely food and good coffee. It such a shame so little effort clearing tables. A pet hate of mine sitting at a dirt table although I understand at busy periods previous plates will be on a table there was very little effort to remove them. Even when drinks dropped off the staff returned empty handed leaving a clutter of old plates. Eventually they were removed however in over an hour I witnessed no tables being wiped clean and I was not too comfortable with my cutlery being dropped onto a dirty table. We were luckier than other tables where no effort at clearing old crockery was noted. A bit more enthusiasm from the staff, who seemed fairly relaxed, and it could be so much better. If I am in the area again perhaps a quieter time of day may be better?

Tasteless, weak coffee even with an extra shot. If you like coffee dont go here. Dreadful coffee. Sullen male staff who clearly is not a coffee drinker

Went yesterday for coffee and cake whilst kids were at tennis. Ordered a sponge cake not realising it had lemon curd in it( which I dislike) hubby went up to change it. Which should not have been a hassle but he was tutted at??! Ridiculous and no need. He did switch it but we weren't keen on his attitude. Coffee and my shortbread was lovely

Called in for lunch and had a generous sandwich and lovely cake. Coffee was huge. The price was reasonable and service was swift. While I was there a mentally disabled person and their carer came in for lunch. Their disability meant they were quite noisy at times. No one in the cafe made a fuss and the staff were nothing but attentive making sure both people had all they needed. A great advert for the town.

Really enjoy meeting friends for a cake and a coffee here but wish they would start offering more dairy free milk options. The last few times they have only offered soya which isn’t the nicest in a latte. There are so many options these days and a lot of customers interested in alternatives so would be nice to have a few options available.

Food was OK, staff not very friendly but polite and helpful. It's OK for a quick stop to grab something to eat and a coffee.

Delicious packed bacon roll, fruit scone with jam & large latte with 2 shots all for less than £8. Exceptional value and yummy too!

We ordered our meal at the counter the staff member was polite and friendly however we sat for 25 minutes before our meal arrived. It was only a baked potato & a toastie which were tasty when they eventually arrived. Disappointed with our long wait as the place wasn’t very busy.

We had a couple of decent macchiatos here, and normally can have some difficulty trying to get short coffees like espressos in the local area, as longer drinks can be more usual. Reasonably priced, and interesting selection of tray bakes, biscuits and freshly made sandwiches which may be to try on another occasion. The cafe is conveniently located near the Caithness Horizons Museum.

Popped in after a walk around Thurso, following a recommendation. Nice slice of butterscotch shortbread washed down with a cappuccino for me and a snickers cupcake with cup of tea for my wife. Popular, busy corner cafe.

This was our favourite place to have coffee and a sandwich 10 years ago. And the cakes were great.

Nicely decorated, plenty of room between tables. Panini very nice although very skimpy with salad garnish and teaspoon of coleslaw for the price. Had a hot chocolate and paid an extra 50p for mini marshmallows and squirty cream that was dissolving rapidly the time I got it. The chocolate was nice and hot, unfortunately the mini marshmallows were all under the cream which I felt made the chocolate really sweet. Good location on the high street

Went with kids to get take out coffees and milkshake and took it to the park. Fab as always and staff are always friendly

We got into town late, 20 minutes before closing. We had not made our reservation for accommodations that night. The manager took us under her care and went straight to work. She found the last two rooms in Thurso! We had a perfect room and made the morning ferry for Orkney. And the lattes were wonderful!

So friendly, kind & helpfull staff. Much improved in recent years, since Bev arrived. Even though busy, they are helpfull.

Good place for a coffee and a catch up, butterscotch shortbread will suit even the sweetest tooth ! Ask for a couple of tea bags if the pot is too weak.

Stopped here for lunch after getting off the ferry from Orkney. Nice decor and the food is very good and reasonably priced. Two small things I felt needed addressed though.

Cakes are superb! Coffee reasonably priced, very stylish decor and fast service if in a rush. I highly recommend visiting this caffe.

Coffee as good but the big catch here is the manager. She went way out of her way to help these out of towners know the ropes of the area. Even running across the street to find out when the grocery across the street was closing for us. THANKS

what can i say, which has not already been said by many before. The staff came across rude and untrained in customer etiquette. Yes the place was full however as the only cafe in the area open for those paying by card which seemed to be how most paid, is it any wonder that it was full on the day visited. The food itself was basic cafe food the tea and coffee was also so nothing special here however the rudeness of the staff was very unappealing so we decided that waiting and debating with a staff member was more than enough, we left and will never return.

I must take exception to Bioeddie’s review of Café Cardosi in Thurso. I had the misfortune to be witness to this man’s behaviour – he used the word “obnoxious” while referring to the manageress, well I witnessed his behaviour – and that word covered him to a tee!

What pay before any food been given then get told that its normal only to see someone pay for what they just finished. Yes one can give many excuses for this however what one can't give is basic manners of apologies for not trusting customers. Once I had listened to the most obnoxious person one wishes to meet i decided to leave. Will never venture into cafe again after watching and participating in some of the most disturbing type of nonsence by an individual I have every come across.

Good coffee, good soup, good cakes. Love their Tiffin with bits on the top. Smarties, rolo etc. Lovely staff.

As we are Australian we love a good coffee and most of Scotland is devoid of it except Cafe Cardosi.The best one for us is the Latte.Also try the scones.

Called in while visiting family with my mum and my 8 yo son. We ordered tea, hot chocolate, apple juice, brownies and a scone. The brownies were not proper brownies but chocolate sponge which was a little disappointing as we do love a good brownie . Scone was delicious and the place was ram packed which shows what a good place it must be

Caffe Cardosi sirve de lejos el mejor caramelo en la ciudad, tarde junto con un bollo de frutas este es sin duda un lugar para los amantes del café.

My partner and i ordered lunch here. I got the tuna, apple and spring onion pasta salad and he got tuna melt panini with a coke. Came to around £12.The food was nice and came with side salad and a small pile of crisps. The bakery goods looked delicious but I resisted temptation!

We called in here for a quick coffee. We were very happy with the coffee, it was flavoursome and very enjoyable; I would certainly go again.

Good stop off on the North Coast 500 for a coffee. Situated on the corner of the main road through Thurso. Excellent coffee and tempting cakes.

A must if you fancy a cuppa. Their home made baking is out this world as is the coffee's, a varied selection of cakes and is a very comfy place just to sit , relax and chill with a friend.

The coffee at this place is fabulous, a great find! I enjoyed an excellent take away flat white while strolling along the beach. The staff are so friendly and welcoming and I was very impressed to have my gluten-free cookie served using a separate utensil and coming from a background in environmental health, this is something I'm always on the lookout for! Unfortunately, despite these positives, I have to mention the only thing that put me off, was the woman behind the service bar wearing a huge, furry coat! Everyone else was dressed in uniform black and the barista with an apron, but this person was very close to food and drinks in clearly irregular wear and could have deposited god knows what onto them! I was glad my food was in a container before she arrived or I may have thought twice! I suggest whoever is in charge to address this as it was so unprofessional and a real turn-off to an otherwise excellent experience!

This is our "local" staff are friendly and chatty. It can get quite busy and a seat can't always be found but we're happy to go and come back when it's quieter.£2.10 for a reg americano it's not the cheapest in town but it has the best atmosphere.Plenty seats for its size. Sitting at the" bar" stools at the window is great for people watching. Children welcome with high chairs available. Light lunches served .... Sandwiches, panninis ,baked potatoes, salads and soups. Also scones, and tray bakes with gluten free eats also available. This is popular with locals and tourists alike.

We visit here regularly when on holiday in the area - good place to have a mid morning coffee and read the paper. Lovely cheese scones.

This place has a nice cosy feel to it but the young staff need to be trained.If you cant serve someone straight away at the counter dont ignore them, let them know you know they're there and say youll be with them in a minute. Also don't forget to serve people their coffee, I waited 10 minutes and eventually had to ask where my coffee was, they had forgotten! I won't be in a hurry to go back.

There's is nothing better than a lazy afternoon on a stool at caffe cardosi with an amerciano and a bacon roll. The atmosphere is so laid back, the coffee is hot and it's the best bacon roll in town. You can easily while away the hours here and no one seems to mind.

This is as close to a "local" as it gets for me. On the way to work for a takeaway coffee, lunchtime paninis or just business meetings during the day! Friendly staff, WiFi, music. Everything g I need, really. Smack bang in the middle of town, so you can sit in the window and watch the world go by or sit at a table and chat. Best coffee in town, too. Maybe.

We should have left when we were hit in the olfactory when we came in ... an overwhelming fatty cooking smell not conducive to a quiet relaxing coffee! The staff were talking to each other and, even though I was the only customer at the counter, I waited a minute or so to get attention (I'm not easily missed). After I ordered and waited for half a minute they smilingly told me they would bring it over. The coffee was weak and the milk was scalded and poorly steamed (see photo)

Another depressing little coffee shop in a depressing highlands town. Probably the staff just wanted to get off home and it showed. Coffee not special and quite expensive for what it was.

I go here nearly every week for a coffee and a cheese scone. The scones are huge and freshly baked, I love them! I've also had light lunch here which is also very good ( panini etc). Friendly place, and if you sit at the window, you can watch the world go by!

The staff here are really exceptional and I always like to work off my jet lag off here. They will make you the best bacon sandwich any time of the day and a serve glorious mug/bowl of coffee. It's a real meeting place with great wifi - just lovely! Sit there and take your emails and watch the day go by....

Cafe Cardosi do the best mocha I have ever had. The baked potatoes are lovely too. Food and drink good quality and value for money. The staff are all really friendly and helpful

Dropped in for a coffee as it's nice & central in Thurso.Very nice coffee & cheese scone, free newspapers to glance through if you get tired of people watching through the large window.Decor is getting tired & floor tikes are chipped & cracked, BUT, there is a sign in the window that it is closing 21/09/15 for renovation. No date given for reopening so it will be interesting to see if & when it does. I shall return to sample the (at present) excellent coffee.

We stopped for a light lunch of coffee and sandwich. Friendly service and good food. It is located pretty well central to shopping . Prices were reasonable. Toilet facilities are located next place over which happens to be a bar.

Had lunch here, just passed by after coming over in the Orkney boat and thought it looked nice. The sandwiches and the soup were fine, and the tuna pasta salad was nice, salad all fresh and crisp. But the best part of it all was 'Liza's millionaire cake" WOW i tried to identify what it was about it that made it soon good but it was just the overall taste and texture, it was absolutely delicious. Whatever you put in it "Liza" is the perfect combination! Im a traybake lover and this is the best i have ever had :0) Its a long way from home so next time we are in Thurso i will buy the rest of the tray to take home...!

Met a friend here who is gluten intolerant. There was a great selection of gluten free and regular items to meet both our needs. Coffee was really good.

Go here and order the above - you won't be disappointed. great place to catch up with a friend whilst people watching.

Wanted a bacon roll but once I looked at menu found a club sandwich with bacon and lots more. Have now been three times for the sandwich as it is awesome, surroundings are nice and café is very busy as it is popular. Go every time I am in Thurso

We used to live near Thurso, and went into this lovely comfortable café every week for its famous cake, coffee and sandwiches.The coffee is delicious, the sandwiches so huge one does for 2 people, they come with salad and crisps, but it is the cakes that are the real draw.They are huge, the slices so huge you can hardly eat them, and always soft, light airy and sumptuous.We drove a long way to visit this place..................but it was well worth it !!!!!!!
