Cafes by Heritage Portfolio in Edinburgh, City of

Time after time we visit the cafe at Modern 2 (Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art) in the hope that the service has improved. We don’t expect too much - clearing the table and giving it a wipe - but yet again Heritage Portfolio fail in the basics. Let’s hope they lose their catering contract soon.

I would have given this a higher rating were it not for the attitude of one of the serving staff. It is not table service so one has to que and ask the server for what you would like. It was busy however I decided to wait and choose a ham and Brie croissant which was a good choice I also ordered a coffee. I had to wait for the coffee the lady who was serving the coffee seemed to know the people behind me when she came over with the coffee which should have been mine she gave it to the people behind. I pointed this out the serving lady just shrugged her shoulders and it was left to the young lady on the till to apologise profusely. When the server lady did come to where I was waiting patiently she didn't even have the good grace to apologise. I take from this that if you are a regular customer you get preferential treatment not a good advert for tourism. I won't be going back.

An excellent meal for Four, chosen from delicious savoury range of salads. Choice of vegetarian and vegan. Soups and toasties available as well as delicious, scones, cake and pastries. Excellent hot and cold drinks on offer. Jugs of complimentary ice and water available. Each table complete with fresh cut tulip flower and vase. A very popular place to enjoy quality food.

Portrait gallery is al een bezoek waard, maar vergeet vooral het café niet. Prima happen, goeie koffie en veel taartjes met natuurlijk scones met jam en cream. Helaas niet clotted. Dat maakt een museumbezoek helemaal compleet!

Delightful and friendly service, with a smile, and staff are happy to help. A wonderful display of sweets and savouries that taste as delicious as they look. I highly recommend a visit!
