Really cute place. Food was delicious and came quickly (also ordered a panini, not pictured, has very thick bread so a bit dry) and my milkshake was brill. Ordered chocolate cake and they gave me an extra big slice.

I was put off from visiting due to the large Palestinian flag flying above it. Keep politics out of coffee. If the owner didn't put it there, please tell me who did.

They call themselves an independent coffee shop; as if Moseley doesn't have enough, why then hoist a huge Palestinian flag on the roof. To a lot of residents who are not islamic/woke/left this is a highly offensive and a confrontational action. There is enough division in the world caused by ideologies. There is also another islamic cofee shop a few doors away next to the pub !

Stopped off for lunch on a trip to Birmingham. It has a lovely laid back atmosphere and the menu was good. We both had salads and smoothies as it was a very hot day. Good choices for vegetarians

The chicken sandwich here is really nice! Other food selection looks good too. Need to try some milkshakes. Their opening hours are long, which is useful. Music sometimes played a lil loud and limited seating quite close together. Nice local place.

I chose this place after reading some good reviews about their coffee. The coffee was nice, however, not the best in Moseley. What was really putting off was the noise coming from the staff, who seemed to be all over the place, having loudly conversations and constant banging/smashing while they were preparing the drinks. The young man, who served me, didn't seem welcoming at all. My order has been brought to me in complete silence, without acknowledging my person. The opposite of me was sat a man who was having quite a weird conversation on the phone. He looked like he could have been the owner of this place. I think it was the first time when I felt very uncomfortable in a cafe shop.

Nice busy spot, loved the artwork and the coffee was excellent. Will have to visit again very soon. Found a table quite quickly, service was good and staff all smiles and friendly. Highly recommend this place for a quick bite to eat

I usually enjoy Cafe Philia and the food, but I've noticed issues with the service. Today I saw a customer complain that a member of staff used her hands instead of tongs. From what I saw, the staff member silently picked up the tongs and didn't apologise, staff member then complained that the customer was rude as soon as their back was turned when they were in full hearing. I know staff work hard, but it is unprofessional to complain about customers behind their back, especially when the customer raised a hygiene issue. The staff member then said to the customer, "it doesn't cost anything to be polite" when it seems the staff caused the issue in the first place! I wish them luck with their business but I think staff should go through more training or just be more respectful of the customer and hygiene.

Oh my god this place is a gem, we got here first thing and it was so cosy and comfy, giving winter vibes. Zaynab was such an incredible barista, the food, drinks, coffee and tea were delicious. Zaynab made sure we had everything we need and was the perfect server, literally service with a smile, I could not be more happy with my very first experience here. Will definitely be coming here again. My new favourite spot thank you Zaynab for making this such a wonderful experience. Also the music was on point 😁

Unclean and really unfriendly staff. First time visiting this cafe I very very rarely give bad reviews but I just can’t get over how terrible this place was. Tables were sticky and dirty staff were not very nice and I found the place really unwelcoming. Coffee was poor and not good value. Won’t be returning

Great little coffee shop in Moseley village. It was lovely to walk in on a dark, wet December afternoon into a cosy and warm shop. I didn't eat so can't comment on the food, but the cappuccino was just as it should be; smooth and creamy. Will definitely be back.

What a fabulous place this is. The staff are so welcoming, it makes the vibe really good. Regulars welcomed by name, and as passers through, we were made to feel equally at home, especially our pooch Oscar who thoroughly enjoyed his experience! Had brunch -food and coffee excellent.

Pass this place on my way to/back from work. Always thought it looked a nice, cosy, friendly establishment. I did not find this to be the case-the ‘friendly’ bit, anyway. Have never been in before but immediately noticed it was counter service. Didn’t know what I wanted so as you do, started to peruse the board above the counter which went unnoticed by the surly girl serving who snapped ‘yes?’ I said I needed another minute and let the guy behind me cut in front. Got out my specs which were steamed up from the rain and the girl again said ‘ready?’ I was not ready. Wish I’d have left at that point, tbh. A minute later, I ordered my food-tea and a toastie. They gave me a cup n some milk for the tea, said they’d bring the pot over. I got my toastie promptly and it was very nice. But no tea-and a good 10 minutes passed. So as I was sitting near the counter, stood and told one of the women I was still waiting. She said ‘oh yes’ and I think, a mumbled ‘sorry.’ A boy bought it over and set it down without a word. He looked very young and is perhaps just doing a bit of work experience but really, you could at least teach him to smile, or say thank you, or something. Maybe you could teach yourselves to do that also? I’d moved tables because mine had a terrible wobble and the same boy came over and sprayed with detergent which again I get, but some of it went in my tea… What really galled me though was there were people, most likely regulars, who were chatted to happily, thanked and said ‘goodbye’ to when they left. I was not. Felt rubbish tbh. Not sure what I did? As far as I know I was polite, paid for my food. Perhaps I’d broken some unknown rule about not being a regular (I definitely won’t be now, so no worries there) or perhaps there was an edict which said ‘order within 20 seconds of arriving in the cafe’ which I also didn’t see, but in my defence, I let everyone ahead of me and didn’t hold up the queue. Maybe I shouldn’t have changed my table to the one immediately next to it but to that I would say customers don’t like wobbly tables, so get it fixed. Oh and spray the cloth, then clean the table, instead of liberally spraying so cleaning fluid gets in your food/drink. These things could easily be remedied. If someone clearly needs time to look at the menu just say ‘of course, I’ll let you take a minute.’ Instead of one word responses, just try ‘have you decided what you wanted, or do you need more time?’ If you leave someone with a cup but no tea, apologise a bit more profusely. When a paying customer leaves, even if they’re not a regular, please try a ‘thank you and take care.’ Maybe you just didn’t like the look of me, maybe you’re understaffed and fed up. I appreciate all those things. Perhaps it’s ’not personal.’ Sure it wasn’t. But it felt it and as you work in hospitality, it is your job to be hospitable to everyone, even if you’re not feeling this (as I’ve waited on in places, I know this to be true) Anyway, nice tea n toastie. Cute cafe. Lovely art on the walls. Quite good value. But the experience left a crimp in my Saturday. I rarely eat or drink out anymore because things are so expensive and today was a timely reminder of why. Feel you’re a bit of a ‘regulars only, social club’ Cafephilia and you maybe don’t need the custom but honestly, do better. You were hardly packed to the rafters btw. Still, a few nice, friendly places in the area so no need to go and experience your surly service again.

Only ever had a latte but wow the best I've ever had, thick and creamy all the way down.

I come ti this place every now and again . I came two days ago and asked for a oat chai latte , Nevermind me paying £3.60 for 125ml drink but what I’m disappointed about is that I specifically asked for oat milk and was given cows milk . The chai latte was really spiced so i did not realise on time and as the drink was small and Luke warm I drank it quick ! I have now been sick for two days and a half all of because the incompetence of a staff me ever . I’m not one to complain but this has affected my work and life . All because of a distracted member of stuff

Really nice little independent coffee shop. Open late and serves great pastries. Just wanted to find a coffee place to sit and catch up with a friend. It looks like they do food too so will have to try that. Great service, good prices and a lovely vibe. Will be back again. The barista said indie coffee shops are better and she was right. We had a raspberry muffin each and it was lovely. Light and fluffy, quite sweet but the raspberries cut through. I’d recommend this place happily.

Absolutely awful conversation heard between the owner and staff. Seems like a horrible work environment and poorly treated staff in particular female staff even hearing him say men are better employees as they “don’t have issues any day of the month” this sexist and misogynistic behaviour has impeded me from any further visits.

Went there with my partner for some lunch. I'm a bit awkward with ordering because of my autism. Despite the food being decent and my partner liking the coffee we could overhear staff rudely insulting us while we ate and judging us. Very unprofessional since we weren't exactly complaining 'Karens', we were polite with manners and had discussed unrelated topics amongst ourselves at an acceptable volume. They were incredibly rude, judgmental and we could hear that conversation out loud between 3 staff members as we sat respectably. Very judgmental and cliquey place - if you are introverted, have social anxiety, autism or are different in anyway - i wouldn't recommend. Its a shame cus the experience ruined what was good food and coffee. Been to the other coffee shops in Moseley and its always good service so plenty of other good options. My partner doesn't want to go there now despite it having vegan options, which was the main reason we sought it out. But now we have purchase remorse. Inclusiveness bragged about on their socials feels very Art school Snobbishness We feel targeted because of my partners anxiety and my autism. We've been to many vegan style places around Birmingham and have a great time and we were hoping to just enjoy the food and coffee and add it to the list as i live nearby and it would of been a convenient place to go to often. But not with staff that verbally speak about you loud enough to hear in cruel derogatory ways - we're not karens that complain about the food or the time it takes. We just sat there having a conversation that was entirely appropriate at an acceptable volume, we didnt haggle or cause any problems. They just judged us for BEING DIFFERENT - Moseley and Birmingham are a town full of diversity and different wonderful people, treat people different for being different and you lose customers. When you go to a cafe, you pay for the experience - our experience was to be verbally judged loud enough for us to hear. We just left with dignity rather than cause a scene. As respectable as we enter but i feel its important for others with Autism or Anxiety too know, if they want to avoid this experience. It's ironic because there was some advertising for an open mic, I put on art events in venues in the city and have been planning to do some more in the area. I know which venue i am not gonna put on art & live music at with my collective. While my partner blogs about places that are vegan friendly. Why Why? Treat customers like they are less than you when treating us well could of led to a venue hire or a positive review on my partners vegan blog??? This is my first online review but i was motivated to write this because i haven't been made to feel that bad about being autistic or socially awkward in anyway since school. Nice coffee however way too much milk for a flat white, was more like a latte. Needed a smaller amount of microfoam for a better texture and glossy taste.

I loved the aesthetic of the place, really cool inside given the art on the walls. The prices are slightly higher than average for certain drinks which to be honest I expected, given the hipster vibe. When inside, though, it was really loud. I walked in to banging, loud chatting, clanging plates, scream-laughing, a various assortment of noises from the staff. I don't think they realise how loud they are, I had to cut a phone call short because the other person on the line couldn't hear me over the noise. When I was given my drink, it was brought to me and just placed on the table I was waiting at without an exchange, I felt a bit out of place considering how conversational the staff were to each other. It seems as though they're a bit cold towards their customers, given other reviews. The drink itself was nice, a bit bitter but I liked it all the same. I don't think I'll be coming back here, though.

A great little coffee shop with a lovely atmosphere and extensive menu, and a great cozy alternative to bars with its late closing time. Portions are generous and delicious, and the staff were so thoughtful too, lending us an umbrella when we got caught out with the rain - highly recommend! 😊

Lovely cafe with a relaxed cosy vibe. Open later than most so a great non drinking evening option. The menu had lots of options and had very decent portions for the price. The staff were really friendly and even let us borrow their umbrella to get home in the rain!

Cosy cafe with good coffee, nice vibe, but the cakes sucked. Admittedly it was late in the evening but all three cakes that we had (lemon drizzle, vegan banana bread, walnut) were dry. Maybe we were just unlucky...

Excellent café with a cosy atmosphere. Great coffee and the most friendly staff. What more can you want? I drove all the way from Liverpool in the morning and needed to find a place where I can work for the day, but I also had a little pooch with me. No problem at all. The café is dog friendly and they definitely made my little pooch feel welcome. It was also perfect for work - double sockets are located by every table. The lady serving behind the counter was excellent, super friendly, was very attentive to every customer that walked in through the door - I could see that a lot of people walking in were locals and she made an effort to speak to all of them. If I lived in this area, I would definitely come here every day!

Coffee was great and the location is ideal. What I didn't like is the apparent lack of interest shown by the waitresses. I had to enter twice to ask for the coffees, and it took them over 15 minutes to bring just two cappuccinos.

By the way get the oreo milkshake. And the Oxford selection of sandwich is very tasty. They also offer halal meat on some of their menu. Definitely recommend

Great local coffee house. Nice atmosphere, good choice of sandwiches / ciabatta & great cake selection (love the Victoria Sponge). On a subsequent visiit we sat outside with our dog and they very kindly brought her some water. Toasted sandwichesand cappuccino still very good and fabulous cake!

Way, way wayy too noisy, because all the washing and storing of pots and mugs is done behind the till right up close to the customer so all you here for the full duration of being there is 'smash' 'knock' 'swish' 'clatter' at very high volumes in your ear. You're almost led to believe that staff are smashing pots on purpose! Very uncomfortable and not relaxing at all.

I come here more for the sandwiches than the coffee. The Salisbury is perfect. The service is nice and the place has a Nice atmosphere. The prices are fair considering the quality. Nice place to just relax and unwind.

Usually get my hot chocolate from here but past few times they have been giving me a half empty cup with no cocoa powder on top. I only get a few sips from it so I’m not very happy about why they’ve decided to not fill the cup up properly. Please sort it out! I agree with some of the reviews about the place smelling funny a bit like smelly socks. Chocolate croissant tastes good!

I’m 90% sure they had given me and my wife Laxatives in our coffee or the milk was off cause I’ve never ran to the toilet that quick in my life. Location 10/10 and cakes are good.

I work in hospitality so I understand a lot of the back-of-house that can take place for staff. I also last came here five or six years ago; remembering a pretty bad experience, I came in open to a better one. I came in solo, and it was pretty quiet. I’m giving one star just because the coffee was fine. No warmth or welcoming vibe from the boy who served me, but the girl who brought my coffee was nice. No music or atmosphere, and felt it was just a vacuous experience. My meal was advertised as avocado on toast but it came as guacamole. For the size of the menu above the bar, it’s a stretch to ask for poached eggs instead of scrambled. And to be frank, I wouldn’t pay for something dining out that I could do at home. Standard! With no music for most of my visit, it’s easy to listen to staff talk about their late wages and being understaffed. There you have it, a typical run of the mill coffee place; understaffed, probably underplayed (or not payed at all), too big a menu. Seeing other better reviews, I’m getting the impression reviews are only given on busy weekends when there is more staff on. Doubt I’ll visit again. A shame really as it’s a great spot, but that’s all.

I nipped into Cafephilia today to grab a sandwich for lunch. I asked for the Tuna mayonnaise sandwich with vegetarian cheese. The sandwich was substantial, with lovely fresh bread and a small side salad. The staff member who served me was warm. friendy and efficient. I hadn't been to cafephilia for a while but will definitely go back. It is very very good value for breakfasts, sandwiches, tea coffee and cake. There is also free wifi in this cafe so if you need to go online you can.

I visited this place when it was newly opened I loved it, now its run down not clean, coffee was ok not going again and noI don't recommend.

Visited on a a Sunday morning with family. Took forever to be acknowledged by staff on the bar as they were helping an elderly customer who appeared to have lost his bank card. The service they were giving to him was attentive and rightly so, but in the process we were totally ignored - not even a “we’ll be with you shortly.” When we were served, the girl behind the counter spoke so quietly we had no idea what she was saying and had to ask her to repeat several times. Ordered three coffees and three bits of cake, fairly long wait for the coffees and even longer for the cake - you’d think they would bring that first but I had to go and chase as we thought it had maybe been forgotten. Once it arrived, both coffee and cake were decent, but same quiet girl spilled the coffee and almost dropped a slice of cake from the plate when bringing it over. Might visit again just to see whether this was a one-off but not a great first visit.

I went early morning with my son before taking him to nearby school. Although we were the only two people inside I got the feeling like I was being a nuisance to the women working… There was a strange smell I found off putting and the tables were sticky… coffee and hot chocolate were average… With all the competition nearby I expected better…

Had a fantastic thickn cheese toastieand cappuccino. Very tasty and well priced. Highly recommended.

It's time for a bit of T.L.C The place is looking a bit tired and grubby now, which is a shame, as it's a great spot in Moseley. Hopefully they'll get back on track, but at the moment it's not what it could be.

This place really has gone downhill recently. Very poor service and food quality. I remember in the past having a choice of quality bread such as focaccia, bagels and ciabatta and much better ingredients. Today, my friend ordered avocado on toast, which arrived with an incredibly thin scraping of avocado on bog standard white bread and apparently tasted bland. I ordered scrambled eggs which took an eternity and when they finally arrived were cold, overdone and tasteless. However, the final straw was finding a hair embedded in my accompanying salad. I was very discreet in pointing this out to a member of staff, who gave me a refund straight away but I shall not be returning there any time soon. The staff are inexperienced and unskilled in the art of basic customer service, not to mention polite conversation. There is no warmth or sense of being valued as a customer and the staff seem overwhelmed and miserable. So sad to see the once cool and trendy cafe decline since changing hands.

Trendy little coffee shop in Moseley I always come here for a coffee and sweet treat. The staff always so friendly reminds me of Central Perk from Friends….

My wife and I called in at Cafefilia for breakfast on Sunday morning after a walk in Moseley Park. We sat at a table outside. We ordered 2 coffees, egg and beans on toast and avocado on toast from the menu and were asked to pay in advance. There were three staff on duty and about 5 or six customers including us. The insipid 'americanos' were brought out to us singly and then we waited for our meal. After about ten minutes the waiter arrived with a plate of baked beans on toast- no egg. I asked about the egg and he went back inside, leaving the beans on the table. No sign of my wife's food. After another long wait, the beans had gone cold and still no sign of my wife's food... or the egg. We decided to leave and went inside to ask for our money back, less the coffees. One of the staff started to argue with me when I told him that the service was terrible. We shall not visit this place again. If I could give it minus rating, I would.

Absolute brilliant service by Zak. The owner Bob made sure I was well looked after. Clean and very comfortable environment. Food was Amazing!! Will definitely come back and would recommend anybody to come here.

Friendly service, clean cafe, nice drink selection. Very poor toasties- absolutely no butter, unmelted grated cheese and very dry bread. I knew it was a simple order but didn’t think it could go so wrong.
