I visited Abantu three times for lunch and tea during a week in Cambridge. It was a refuge for me, in part because I wanted healthy vegetarian food, and this was hard to find elsewhere in Cambridge, and in part because the frenetic, touristy atmosphere of central Cambridge was really getting to me. Abantu is only a couple blocks away from the Market Square, but it has a calm, neighborly vibe. The staff is friendly and I liked everything I ate. As an American, I was delighted to find that Abantu offers several varieties of iced tea--often not easy to find in the UK.

Just pop by for a quick coffee and we found it really nice, good service and welcoming staff! Ask steevo to do your coffee, he makes the best flat white ever , will definitely be back soon!

Popped into my favourite cafe recently. I always have a flat white (they do the best in town!) and sometimes also tempted by their delicious cakes! The staff are always friendly and even when it's really busy, they do their best to accommodate. I always leave this lovely cafe with a smile on my face. Thanks Abantu!

We came here for afternoon tea today for my birthday. Staff was friendly enough, however we did have spoiled cream with our scones, I wasn’t too sure what the off taste was until after smelling the cream Pots and trying the cream on its own to realise it was sour. I thought it was a weird flavoured cream so I asked and was told it was just plain clotted cream in which I then mentioned to one of the young girls behind the counter that it was definitely spoiled but they didn’t seem too interested. Hopefully it’s only just gone off and we do not get poorly from it but I would recommend them chucking that cream out and maybe dating their dairy. Starting to feel a little nauseous but maybe it's me just overthinking it 🤞🏽

Perhaps Abantu suffers from its popularity or maybe we hit a bad day but the coordination of orders was very poor. Coffee did not arrive with a croissant ordered. Having chased for the croissant, which arrived some 5 minutes later, we also asked the waiting staff if we could have some water. We were then brought 2 empty glasses and told to serve ourselves. Good customer service is about going the extra mile and I'm afraid on this occasion, Abantu gave us no real reason to return.

Been here several times previous and always good. Popped in for breakfast, only 2 other tables being used already had their orders.. Ordered the food and then it went down hill. We had our drinks served and then waited and waited and waited, total time at least 20 mins. A latte and a pot of teas consumed before getting the food. Food well presented but not warm. 3 people serving but waiting time was not really acceptable, could hear and see the staff chatting and at one point thought of getting up and leaving, no apology for the time taken.

We had a really nice lunch here. It's clean and bright and very friendly. They serve you quickly with tasty food.

I loved the atmosphere and decor of this cafe. I had a milkshake and my mum had a tea. We also ordered food: date flapjack and chocolate orange rocky Road. All was lovely and delicious however the guy who served us used his bare hands to plate the food, I would have expected gloves or tongs but overall good :)

Lovely small cafe, slightly away from the busiest shopping area. Service at the til where we ordered and when bringing food and clearing the table was always friendly and welcoming. There was a good choice of imaginative and creative fresh salads, toasted panini, savoury pastries etc. Plenty of options for vegetarians and vegans. There were some tempting looking sweet things too, but we did not have much time so enjoyed a generous plate of three different salads, a delicious pan fried goats cheese and red onion sandwich (cheese cut a wee bit thick, so not quite as melty as it could be but very flavourful) and a tasty maple roasted vegetable and squash 'not sausage' roll. There is a good choice of chilled drinks ginger, elderflower, still lemonade etc There are a few tables outside which on less hot day would be very appealing but offering little shade in a very hot day. Inside was relatively cool and calm. Loo and baby change area was very clean and well kept.

I had been wanting to try Abantu for a while after hearing such good things and it did not disappoint. The portion sizes where huge and the food seemed really fresh. The menu had such a good choice. Can't wait to go back

El café estaba bien, pero a los 5 minutos de sentarse, un miembro mayor del personal vino a mi mesa y murmuró algo sobre no trabajar en un café. Todos los demás estaban trabajando en el café, pero ella me apuntó a esto, lo encontré muy grosero y no regresaré y desaconsejaré como lugar para trabajar. El resto del personal era amable aunque.

Disfruta mucho el almuerzo aquí: siempre hay una variedad de delicias saludables y no tan saludables para que puedas ir a por lo que te apetezca. La comida es el tipo de cosas que esperarías en un café de buena calidad. Ambiente realmente encantador, mucha luz: mi mesa favorita está en la esquina y está construida sobre una máquina de coser (vengo aquí bastante). A un precio muy razonable y lo recomendaría de todo corazón.

Después de haber pasado la mañana navegando en Cambridge, visitamos Caf Abantu para almorzar y no podríamos haber estado más felices. El personal era amable y la comida era fantástica. Probamos las tostadas (tocino / queso brie y el queso de cabra / chili dulce, mi favorito personal), así como el rollo de salchicha y batidos y todos eran muy sabrosos. ¡Vale la pena una visita!

When I visited, there wasn’t much vegetarian options besides a salad and some vegetarian pastries but didn’t want savoury pastries so chose a salad. It wasn’t great not much flavour. Ordered a danish and because of the current COVID-19 pandemic, I expected the owner to use gloves when prepping the food. But I saw her touching the food with her bare hands and I just became disgusted. They were friendly and service was great but because of her being unhygienic, I had to give it a 3 rating.

I arrived here after a long cycle from London during lockdown and it was perfect, great drinks and brilliant staff

Rollo de salchicha vegana muy sabrosa y sabrosa que se ofrece aquí en Abantu. Optamos por llevar - a pesar del entorno agradable del restaurante, y me calentó. Other reviewers have reported poor service. We had absolutely no problem- the service was great, the coffee really smooth, and the food was freshly prepared and tasty. Would certainly recommend as a good value lunch option.

Popped in before work with my husband. We were one of 3 tables in, so it wasn’t busy. Ordered at the bar. Drinks arrived relatively quick but not super fast. My cake arrived shortly after but my husbands samosa took over 25 minutes despite being told that it was ‘on its way’ when our drinks were brought over. We had to go up to the bar and ask for it. We were told they had forgotten about it. Wouldn’t have usually been an issue but we only popped in for a quick snack before work and had to rush eating in the end. Food was good. Wouldn’t go if I was in a rush though.

The service has not improved since moving from Bourn. Still terrible. Rude staff, reflects the management. Had to wait to be seated, we had never been before, arrived before 12pm, ordered the All Day Breakfast at 12.01pm having queued, but were not allowed to order it because they stop serving at 12pm. Pathetic and petty. Not good customer service. Will never go back or recommend. It’s a shame, would like to support the independent shops/cafes etc but when you get treated with contempt, why would you? The food wasn’t worth the annoyance either.

I’ve been here a few times and love it everytime! The staff is always so friendly and the food is so nice! The range of teas and their flavour is absolutely fantastic. Even the China is cute. I love this place

Wow just had lunch and that was some of the nicest food I've had in Cambridge their flavour combinations are spot on. They also make fabulous coffee. No cake for me today but it was hard to resist.

Unusual, tasty food. Often vegetarian and vegan options, meat too. Cakes lovely, salads nutritious. My only complaint is that the "hot" chocolate is rarely hot, and not very chocolate-y.

Good food at prices that reflect the quality of their ingredients. Not cheap but delicious, to eat in or take away. Full of locals, escaping the tourist hoards nearby!!

Este es un lugar pequeño y encantador no lejos del mercado. Vale la pena la distancia para disfrutar de una comida sentada. Disfrutamos de un excelente desayuno vegetariano donde amablemente agregaron tocino y huevo porque realmente queríamos una combinación que no estuviera en el menú. El aguacate con crema en el pan de masa fermentada era sublime y aspiro a hacerlo también en casa. El té era un poco débil y tardó unos 10 minutos en prepararse, pero de lo contrario, este es definitivamente un lugar para visitar.

Este lugar fue reemplazado por Sticky Beaks y, de hecho, apenas se nota la diferencia: opciones de ensaladas frescas y atractivas, frittata y quizás un par de platos más, con pasteles. No es barato, pero tampoco es muy caro. El café es perfectamente decente. El ambiente es moderno y ligero. Volvería, seguro, pero deseo que el personal se anime.

Caímos en este café a la hora del almuerzo. Estaba encantado de que el té significara teteras, porcelana y rodajas de limón. Mi compañero estaba muy agradecido por su café. Rara vez lo escucho mostrar tanto entusiasmo. También se mostró satisfecho con su gofre de salsa de huevo y aguacate. Bueno, no del todo porque no le gustaba el gofre que, según él, era demasiado dulce. Nuestra camarera nos dijo que usan waffles belgas tanto para comidas saladas como dulces. Mi compañero desea que reconsidere esto, ya que dice que no funciona correctamente con platos sabrosos. Dice quién quiere mezclar la torta en todo esto, ya que así es como sabía. Todavía le daría cinco, aunque estaba encantado de lo contrario. Mi quiche y ensalada eran buenos. El servicio fue bueno, aunque a veces parecía un poco agotado y preocupado, aunque el ambiente era bastante desagradable y no estaba muy ocupado. Mi único otro comentario es que sería bueno tener periódicos.

Excellent coffee, good food and good service. Used to visit while they were in Bourn, always been worth a stop.

We used to go here when it was in Bourn and I was curious to see how it was different.

As a postgrad, this was a regular work spot for me. Airy, light decor; friendly serving staff and a whole teapot to accompany you through hours of studying. Personally I never ordered food here, but the orders did look quite fresh and the baked goods are, to my knowledge, made on the spot. It's a central location but sufficiently off the beaten path to never feel chokingly busy.

A really great cafe in the centre of Cambridge. The food is all home made. Very good cakes and coffee. Friendly, helpful service. Best of all its now open on Sundays from 10.00.

What’s not to love? Amazing food, friendly efficient helpful service, lovely coffee, not too busy. Loved it.

This is a lovely cafe with a great menu for breakfast or brunch, with some unusual options such as turmeric latte and beetroot latte. Two of their 5 or 6 cakes were Vegan friendly also, the carrot cake and one other fruit cake. There are a variety of places to sit inside from small tables to large tables and they have free wifi which is a good speed. The service was very friendly, the owner explained where some of the dishes and ingredients came from which was interesting. The atmosphere inside is very nice also, bright and airy. I'll definitely be back.

Lovely friendly, cosy cafe. Excellent service and the BEST carrot cake! The chocolate orange slice was pretty awesome too. The chocolate cake (my daughter had the gluten free one) was moist and really tasty too. Tea comes in tea pots. It’s just what cake and tea should be like (the coffee’s pretty damn good too)!

Visited again six of us after a six mile walk in the Bourn area, excellent food and excellent service all at a reasonable price,nothing was too much trouble for the owner and her staff,quiet busy for a Sunday lunch time.

Noticed this cafe has recently changed hands in Cambridge, so thought I’d give it a go. Nice ambience, service ok, breakfast menu rather limited. Bearing in mind its location it was busy but I think the food could be better, breakfast anyway.

A new cafe somewhat off the beaten track but well worth a detour. On a cold, miserable day I was enticed in for a quick sandwich and coffee. The Brie and Bacon toasted sour dough looked great and but with the addition of fig relish, the taste was excellent. I am sure this will become a regular haunt.

A really fantastic unpretentious cafe. All the food is really delicious. Wonderful cakes. Enormous portions, big enough to share. They are moving to the centre of Cambridge at the end of January.

This is a nice café that offers a lovely selection of sandwiches, snacks and cakes. Friendly staff and warm atmosphere, it is quite laid back though and service can sometimes suffer for that but it's still a decent place to catch up with family/friends over a light lunch.

Cafe@abantu is a charming light-filled space with cosy seating inside and ample space outside. They have delicious homemade cakes, keeping it interesting with some new bakes but also retaining the favourites (mine’s the carrot cake). The regular menu has a great selection of soups, toasties, salads, sharing boards, smoothies and warm dishes (husband’s fave is the creamy mushroom stroganoff). Their specials board always feature tempting dishes, including vegetarian and vegan options. I never get bored of going there! Service is always welcoming and friendly. There is plenty of parking around the back of Wysing Arts Centre. For those with mobility issues, there is another car park (around the back, to the left) where there is an entrance door to the side with no steps. It’s child friendly too, with toys to keep little hands occupied and menu items just for kids. This place is a real gem!

Café está situado a sólo 9 Abantu km de Cambridge en el Wysing Arts Centre, en el 1046 será entre Toft y Longstowe. Es un lugar encantador con muestra preciosas de porcelana china y pasteles caseros adecuados. 3 llamado para una comida ligera después de una excursión reservada de Wysing centro y nos sorprendió gratamente. Probé el 'buffalo y mozarella, con tomate, aguacate y ensalada rocket'. Una persona tenía la sopa sabrosa del día, otro tenía dos tabla de quesos con ensaladas, jamón, queso, un bollo caliente casero y pickle. Hay un menú sin gluten (con opción) y se sirven aperitivos durante todo el día, y el desayuno se sirve hasta las 11. 30:00 am. Horas de lunes a viernes de 9 a 16, Sábado 10 a 4. Bien merece una visita si estás en la zona y necesita un precioso regalo, o simplemente una buena taza de té caliente se sirve en el bonito china. Came for a friends surprise 30th birthday yesterday evening , what a hidden gem this place is , had a delicious 3 course meal starting with confit of duck, the main course was chicken with the most delicious sauce I have ever tasted, so good infact I got the recipe from the chef, the dessert was lemon posset, absolutely yummy. Lovely friendly staff and very reasonably priced drinks . Great place will definitely come back.

Best hot chocolate in Cambridgeshire...and I've tasted a lot of hot chocolates. None of that watery sickeningly sweet warm-ish 'hot chocolate' you find everywhere in this area. This one is made with dark chocolate, milk, and steamed so it's actually hot and served in a large curved mug to keep it hot for longer. Exquisite and worth a visit just for that!Also happened to discover the tastiest Black Forest gateau I've ever tasted! I want more please! :)

I've been several times either when out cycling or after running and it's a great place to stop and re-fuel! The menu is amazing with the most fantastic selection of homemade cakes and other treats. We are always made to feel very welcome and I'll definitely be back very soon!

We often visit Cafe Abantu. Have done for about 3 years now. We've always loved it but since the cafe changed sites we love it even more. The new venue is lovely - bright and airy, relaxed and friendly. A beautiful location. The staff couldn't be friendlier even when they are busy. The food is excellent - cakes to tempt even the least temptable person and always a good selection of choices for lunch. The cafe is a wonderful place for locals but what's really great is being able to take friends from further afield who end up jealous that we have such a fantastic place right on our doorsteps - they're always keen to come back! As a community hub it's perfectly placed and equipped with big tables, free wifi and an endless supply of sustenance!I highly recommend.

A lovely time spending lunch with my friends after being out of town for a while. I will definately be going back for the service, food and atmosphere. The decor and feeling of the cafe is unique and from going there I have made some new friends to go with it. I would definately recommend Abantu as somewhere to go if you live in or are visiting Cambridgeshire.

We were customers when the cafe was at its old site in Bourn & it's true we too noticed the temporary decline in service. However!!!.....since the move to the Wysing Arts site, it has returned to its excellent service. In fact, we think it's the best it's been. It's a good, diverse menu, with a tempting range of specials on the board each day. Excellent range of gluten free options as well! It honestly feels like the 'iffy service phase' was just that...a phase. It's great to have a Fairtrade option for lunches and coffee breaks - also very child friendly by the looks of it. While there, you can also check out the sculptures and any current exhibits at the art centre. Love it.

We have been on several occasions to this 'good food' café. It is a relaxed place and good for young children including the play area and animals. The staff have always been fairly friendly and helpful and the home made cakes are delicious, we often take extra away with us. Based on two recent reviews let us hope that standards are not slipping.

We were waiting for over 20 minutes, not a single member of staff even made eye contact with us. Our table was clear so they could not possibly think we were served already and they attended the other tables several times and served guests that arrived after us. This was our first and last visit, I will not recommend this place to anyone.

We have been to this cafe approx 8 times. They main women who run it are usually unfriendly, but the latest visit the main lady in charge was so unfriendly that I would not go again.Customer service skills needed. On previous occasions you feel that you are a nuisance, as they cannot handle the stress of actually having any customers at all. This time round I asked the flavour of a cake on a counter to be told it was not for sale. No smiles. No welcoming into her cafe. If you go to the counter at all be warned they do not like it.I sat down awaiting my family. A nice young waitress came over after 1 minute, and I said my family had just arrived, could I have a couple of minutes. No problems. After around 10 mins we thought we would order at the counter. No issue. The owner gruffly said to my husband that 'someone had come over, and we were not ready.' If I had known she had said that I would have walked out. However my husband did not mention it till later. When we left there was no eye communication, no thanks. Just such a miserable woman. I would travel further afield for a nice welcome, and a nice atmosphere. Cakes are nice, but not nice enough to put up with a customer service that is awful.

A quick visit and we had a lovely bacon and cheese on soda bread with coffee, coffee is a touch watery but apart from that a great cafe. There a goats and chickens for the children to look at and pat as well

I have been many times, always had delicious home made food. They always have interesting specials such as celeriac and Apple soup, they have many gluten free cakes and savoury options. The cake dresser is impossible to choose from, just yum! They are very family friendly, have a small toy/books area. They also sell lovely fair trade gifts which are ethically sourced and often hand picked, which make unique presents. I would thoroughly recommend and I wish I lived slightly nearer!

Have been to this little country restaurant several times over the last year. Always a pleasure, but best in nice weather and sitting outside.Bacon sandwich is a favourite and also the soup is very nice. Good selection of cakes in afternoon and cream teas.Good service with a smile from friendly young waitresses. Very child friendly.

Very cosy, homely cafe with gorgeous gift shop and delicious food. Highly recommend the soups but the cakes are great too!

We love going here, the cake portions are nice and generous and they have a great range. they have outside play area with little tikes houses etc. perfect for little kids, and lots of farm animals to go and see too. Its a favourite with us whenever we have free day - its just a shame they don't open Sundays too!

Sunny day, so we we were lucky to bag an outside table in a corner. They were rushed off their feet but made us welcome and apologised for the delay in serving us, although we didn't feel we had been kept waiting. We had a simple lunch of beetroot and fennel soup, and meat pie. Homemade and wholesome and delicious and reasonably priced. An unpretentious place that offers good value. Everyone else there seemed to be relaxed and enjoying themselves. Recommended. We agree with most other positive comments of the only other review. Such a contrast to our dreary experience up the hill at The Willow Twee ( not a typo) Thank you!

This has been a favourite lunchtime haunt for years and I have been selfishly keeping it from TripAdvisor. The fact that it has now been listed here means that reviews are welcome. :) The cafe has been steadily expanding and there is a lot more seating now, although not ideal for large groups (6+ people). There is seating outside as well, which is perfect when the weather's nice. The gift shop is now in a separate room but can still be accessed from the cafe. Make sure you have a look. There are some lovely, original items. One of Café@abantu's strengths is their homemade cakes. I can honestly say their carrot cake is the best I've ever had. Consistently good and very fresh. The menu isn't exhaustive but it doesn't need to be. Breakfast is served before 11:30am and lunch includes sandwiches, soups and some daily specials. Everything, including the bread, is very fresh and I love the fact that my sandwich is served with a little bit of salad and couscous. Service is always pleasant. It can be a bit slow but that's because everything is made to order, so it's worth the wait. The cafe even has a child-friendly area at the back. The cafe's entrance can't be seen from the road. If coming by car, look for the chalkboard propped up on the sidewalk on Alms Hill (across the surgery) and turn into that road. It will take you to the back of the farm and around to the car park, which is right in front of the cafe's main entrance. Note the cafe is closed on Sundays and closes at 4pm Mon-Sat.
