Cafe Solo in Canterbury

Just had an amazing breakfast at cafe Solo, my wife and I both agreed it was the best breakfast we’ve had out. All cooked to perfection and perfectly seasoned we will definitely be making this our go to for breakfast!

Huge , beautifully cooked meal. Great friendly staff. My sausage and mash was a large oval "serving dish" with a large pile of mash, large pile of fried onions, large pile of lovely fresh tasting green peas and 2 very nice meaty sausages and decent gravy. . The nice green peas impressed me, as many places use cheap tired tasteless peas. Cost me under £8- excellent value. Nice lively atmosphere,though we would have preferred to be in the quiet back garden (closed that day), as we have hearing problems and indoor acoustics aren't great for us. Good to find some traditional cafe meals as well as a varied menu. All nice and clean , but, if I was to be really picky, I would suggest that somebody finds time to clean round the old pipework on the walls in the toilets with a toothbrush- then I would have given 5 stars. I'd happily go again when visiting Canterbury.

I have driven past this cafe for years. I finally popped in for a quick lunch between work commitments. Wow, superb and friendly service. Very reasonably priced. Quick to be seated and served. When my lunch came, which was a jacket potato and salad, the salad was enormous with lovely fresh tomatoes and homemade coleslaw. This was also a deal of the day. Would highly recommend and I will be returning! Excellent!

Great food. Great service Much better breakfast than that pub chain Word of warning though. Large portions. We couldn't completely finish ours Plus getting a beer was a bonus 👌

Oh dear. Used to love this place. Haven't been for a year and went this morning to find: - double the price (literally) - no newspapers - cappuccino bitter, left horrible taste - "sausages" just reconstituted cereal with sausage flavouring Such a shame because the staff are always really friendly, and convenient location

An impromptu breakfast stop that we're very pleased to have made. We arrived to a great welcome from staff and service was polite and quick throughout. The food was really well cooked and they were really helpful with our son's allergies. Highchairs and baby change is available and the children were really well welcomed and accommodated with a great children's menu. We would go back and highly recommend this cafe.

Visited here for breakfast after seeing how busy it generally is and the reviews on here. How disappointed were we! Good start with a friendly welcome and choice of clean tables. Our drinks order was taken and provided very quickly, with the food order being taken soon after. The food arrived very quickly, and it was very evident everything had been pre cooked apart from the toast and poached eggs. The food was greasy and not enjoyable at all. Sad to say we won’t be returning as the location is perfect for our visits to Canterbury.

Nice staff. Very quick professional, straight to the point. The restaurant was packed full but they still delivered the food within 15 mins our drinks within 5 mins. It is a restaurant We will come back and enjoy our family time out.

Went her for breakfast was met by the business owner who was very rude didn’t welcome me Was then told to “go over there” by a waitress I order my food and got eye rolls when I asked for poached egg instead of fried Got my food which was burnt and had a blond hair on it When I reported to staff They took it away only to be given the same meal which was still burnt I paid and left and write a bad review the owner than deleted this comment so no doubt this will be deleted to

Visited here with my partner and daughter. I love that there is such a range on the menu, meaning we can have completely different things. Partner had a mega-breakfast, which he said was lovely. I had a baguette which was delicious and daughter had a roast dinner. Again, was great. The service is excellent and there is always plenty of staff. I’ve never had a bad meal here.

Our 2nd visit here and again an extremely enjoyable experience 🙂 There’s easy parking at the back. Very friendly staff, excellent quick service on a busy Sunday lunchtime. Our food was served very quickly was fresh and very tasty and good value. The menu has a fantastic choice and we’ll back again soon to try something else and I highly recommend it!

Not very impressed. I had breakfast there yesterday. The Tomatoes, bacon and mushrooms were quite nice but the sausage was really cheap and bready and the bubble was a joke; I didn't think there was any at first but is was hidden by a slice of tomato, seriously, it was about 4mm deep and would have fitted on a modest spoon. Also I'm sure the menu said tea or coffee were included but we were charged for drinks on top.

Haven't been here for a while so enjoyed yet another great meal today! Food is cooked to order and surprisingly quickly given that the restaurant was completely full and we had to wait for a table.

We read on Trip Advisor about a ladies very positive expert here with her Gluten-free needs. Sadly when I called to confirm this they have stopped supporting a Gluten free menu. Lost my business I’m afraid because my Step daughter is Coeliac

I fully recommend Cafe Solo the service given from arriving through to the goodbye was exemplary. The food choices are many and once We had made a decision it arrived nicely presented, hot and very prompt. I’m a very difficult customer being gluten free and ex restaurant supervisor I have to say keep doing as you are you’re a great team and should be very proud of yourselves.

Great cafe, friendly, accommodating staff who welcomed our party of 10 with no issues, great food, couldn’t ask for more really.

We were greeted by the lovely team who were happy to help and sat us outside at our request. Food arrived swiftly and was well presented and delicious. Great value for money and lovely staff who clearly enjoy taking care of their customers. Will definitely be back

Nice visit on a Saturday afternoon, enjoyed homemade steak pie, with vegetables ,chips& gravy, followed by pancakes with ice cream. Very nice food, reasonable prices. Fast friendly service, nice staff, in pleasant surroundings. Will visit again.

Christmas time and so we decided to have a cafe lunch. ( four of us ). Before being given the chance to even pick up the menu. We are asked what drink we want. In haste I ordered a coffee. She asked what coffee would you like. I said a capaccino. After looking at the menu I decided to order a breakfast. Which includes a coffee or tea. After eating my meal and drinking my drink. I was told that the included coffee wasn’t the type of coffee included in the breakfast menu. I said ok thinking that I would have to pay the difference. Only To be told. I would have to pay full price for the coffee not a upgrade price. Another colleague decided that although a Christmas dinner option was expensive. He still wanted one. surprisingly it didn’t even include a drink or any extras. When his dinner arrived. It was well cooked and presented. Plenty of nice turkey. But the rest was minimal. Five runner beans. Six rings of carrot. I small boiled potato one small roast potato. Half a small cabbage leaf. One cocktail sausage bacon wrapped with one small Yorkshire and a small stuffing ball. @ £12.99 this was not what we expected and certainly not value for money. We were disappointed. We left feeling less than happy. Our conclusion is money is more important than customer satisfaction. Either way. We will be continuing to use another cafe.

The food was excellent, the service was good, the restaurant was clean, the staff were friendly and the meal was reasonably priced.

What a great place great food excellent service and great prices! We had cheese on toast with grilled tomatoes. The coffee was excellent.

I go here quite a lot, mostly for the breakfast which is always lovely, mushrooms are to die for. But their Jackets potatoes are lovely too. The staff are really friendly and the service is quick. Spotlessly clean. Love it.

The first thing that struck me. about this nicely presented cafe was that they were over-staffed, I counted nine waitresses, all standing like a welcoming committee as you walk in; I don't say this is a bad thing, but a little intimidating. The food was ok but I had bubble 'n' squeak with my breakfast, and it was the smallest portion I've ever been served, it was literally no more than a dessert spoonfull, laughable! I mentioned this when the waitress collected our plates and her response was "well you know for next time now don't you?" This was shocking to me, both for it's disregard for customer satisfaction, and arrogance for thinking there would be a next time.

We went for breakfast and were watched from start to finish I finished before my husband then when he finished about 2 seconds later he was still eating they came and cleared the table and then gleared more until we left! Not a place for slow eaters

The food is very nice and came out quickly. However the staff are very pushy & wait by your table to take your plate or anything they can. Also there is very loud noises (coffee machines and blenders) going on constantly which doesn’t help you enjoy your meal. Other than this the food is tasty and price reasonable.

Brilliant little cafe, great breakfast, reasonably priced and friendly service! We had a mega breakfast and a veggie breakfast. Loads of extras to choose from and a lovely cappuccino.

Paré aquí con mi mamá mientras mi papá estaba de visita en el hospital. Estacionamiento limitado cuando hay mucha afortunada de conseguir un lugar. Ubicado en la carretera principal junto al semáforo, es fácil perderlo.Sentado rápidamente y no tuvo que esperar mucho para ordenar. La comida llegó rápidamente y fue genial.

Mi esposa y yo nos detuvimos a desayunar el 26 de agosto de 2020. Las mesas están socialmente distanciadas y todo el personal estaba enmascarado. Del extenso menú de desayuno, elija la opción 1 como mejor valor que crear el suyo propio. Recién cocido y no graso. Probablemente podría haber obtenido algo un poco más barato en otro lugar, pero una excelente relación calidad-precio por lo que obtuvimos; definitivamente lo consideraré nuevamente al regresar a Canterbury y también ofrecerá opciones más saludables que valdría la pena considerar para el almuerzo.

Wow we stopped for breakfast and it’s amazing the food was outstanding, the staff are very friendly, it has a nice outdoor area, highly recommended.

Went to have lunch with my son the place was extremely busy and we had to wait by the door for a table. The waitress started to make very unkind remarks about the customers outside (who had ordered wine) 'oh look they've got a friend with them i wonder if he'll drink a whole bottle of wine too! I told her I knew the people outside and she had the grace to look embarrassed! I like eating here it's local to me i also like having a couple of glasses of wine with my lunch so am I ridiculed when I'm out of earshot?? Bit of advice love do your job and concentrate on serving tables, please don't worry about anybodies alcohol consumption unless someones falling down drunk!! I then walked out think I'll leave it a while before I go back maybe I'll leave it til that nasty piece of work leaves!

Stopped here for brunch on my way out of Canterbury, really enjoyed my visit excellent food and excellent staff

Had a lovely fried traditional breakfast this morning in Cafe Solo. It was a honest breakfast at a good price and excellent service. l will be returning in the near future.

This is a great, local restaurant. We are regulars and are always pleased with the quality (and quantity!) of the food and the efficient service. The best place in Canterbury for a traditional Full English.

Regresé aquí recientemente cuando estaba trabajando en el camino. Fue recibido por la camarera que mencioné en mi crítica anterior y pedí bebidas rápidamente que salió poco después. Pedimos el desayuno vegetariano que salió rápidamente y estaba muy caliente. Mucho mejor que la última vez. Al pagar, la camarera se acercó a mí y se disculpó por mi última visita, después de leer mi crítica, y me explicó que estaba tan ocupado y estresante ese día, y me dejó tomar este desayuno gratis. Muy buen gesto y muy apreciado. No hace falta decir que volveré aquí de nuevo jaja :)

Brilliant cafe, polite friendly staff and great food. We had breakfast twice, mushrooms on toast under £3, scrambled egg on toast the same, bacon and sausage sandwich under £4, big portions too. We had a meal later where the potions were huge, and delicious. Egg, 2 bacon, chips and beans under £4. Jacket with prawns, salad and coleslaw £5.70 would definately recommend and will definately return when in Canterbury. Plus it has a car park.

We did have the Shepperd's pie and it was abundant and really good. The prices are good and the service too. The place is clean and fresh.

As we walked in three people left whilst moaning and saying they won’t be coming back, that was not a good sign!

No better way to start the day than to feast like a monarch with a king size fry up. Cafe Solo did not disappoint, good old fashion grub in ample portions washed down with piping hot builders tea. Very quick and efficient service with a smile and good value for money. Parking may appear to be an issue but there are plenty of options around.

Mainly have breakfast here. Good value for money. When having fried breakfast you can add extras at small cost. Only downside i've experience if busy I've had a waitress trying to rush us making an order. Only experienced this once.

Living in Canterbury I have driven past this place more times than I can remember. On the way home from our holiday we decided to stop and have breakfast somewhere that we could take our dog. Found that Solo had a hidden garden and decided to try it out. We were very glad we did as the breakfasts were very good and the staff friendly. Also at a reasonable cost. The only downside was that one staff member came over and moved the umbrella that was shielding us from the sun and put it over someone else who turned out to be a family member. Otherwise very good

Rather disappointing on my second visit. Large plate with ton of gravey and few vegetables and 1 roast potatoe. Sorry you let your standard drop since my first visit.

El amable personal eficiente, el lugar estaba impecablemente limpio. Servicio eficiente. El especial de hoy fue el pastel de pollo y verduras con col, zanahorias, judías verdes y puré de papas. Cuando llegó, me horrorizaba un poco que toda la comida se hubiera inundado de salsa. Sin embargo, la comida era agradable y caliente, y el pastel muy sabroso. No pude raspar la salsa de la comida porque había tanto y no había suficiente espacio en el plato para que se fuera. Puedo sugerir que la salsa se sirva en una jarra pequeña de leche para que las personas como yo la pongan donde la queremos. Comida sabrosa 10/10. Presentación 0/10.

Far from being a greasy Jo this cafe serves a variety of meals in addition to all day breakfasts. Prices are very reasonable, service is always great and with a smile. Been many times and will visit many more.

Staff very friendly on arrival and take your drink order first then return for food order,the food was good and plentiful and cooked to perfection also returned halfway through the meal to check we were happy with our order.

Traditional English Cafe in what used to be the “Hop Poles” pub. Plenty of seating but it does get busy during peak times. Limited parking on site and a garden for al fresco dining. There is plenty of free parking nearby. Free WiFi is also available.

Probably the best cheese omelette, chips and salad you will get in the area! Especially for the cost 👍

We went to Cafe Solo for lunch. It was quiet and we managed to park in their car park at the side. It takes about 10 cars. Not easy to park as it’s an odd shape. The staff are very welcoming. The tables are clean and not too close. All wooden. I had a baked bean jacket potato and salad. The salad was very fresh and plentiful. My husband had a breakfast which he said was good. They do a lot of breakfasts. Due to the sort of menu, we probably won’t go back. Not big on veg. No fish. My daughter and family go there a lot and the children like the food.

Never notice this little busy cafe before in all my trips to Canterbury.

Just moved to Canterbury and was asked to a meeting with British Legion here. When I saw the food offered and the prices I knew I had found my pit stop cafe. Staff always lovely and the mega breakfast is great and cheap. Coffee also good. Well done, go here!

always a great place for breakfast. It's nothing fancy but does the simple things excellently. plenty of variety on the menu even if you don't want to go the whole hog. Vegetarian option for full english is ok as long as you like glamorgan style cheese and leek sausage - not my preference though.

I have passed this cafe too many times and popped in today. (Admittedly because the cafe in Morrisons was shut) Well what a find! Very friendly staff. Great food. Great price. Highly recommended and we will definitely return

Excellent Brunch stop. A very lucky find on way from Canterbury camp site to next camp stop in Norfolk. Just what the doctor ordered! Both had a set menu of bacon, sausage, egg, bubble and squeak, mush, tomatoes, toast and tea or coffee. £6.49 John ordered extra beans. Very good with friendly waitress service. Set us up for rest of day. Just beware of the very friendly waitresses with extra quick service, who did us out of our inclusive teas!!

We love Cafe Solo, we have been coming here for years and never had a disappointing experience. They are great at providing excellent customer service, they are quick, attentive, happy and friendly. I've bought my niece here before and they couldn't be more accommodating offering help getting high chairs, special drinks, special meals. A great place for a delicious breakfast. Garden in the summer is lovely.

Antes de siquiera haber mirado el menú, nos preguntaron qué bebida nos gustaría y si estábamos listos para pedir, pedimos unos minutos para mirar el menú. Después de mirar el menú por alrededor de un minuto nuevamente nos preguntaron qué nos gustaría pedir. Decidimos irnos ya que los precios eran muy altos para el desayuno en una cafetería. También nos sentimos muy incómodos con el personal que nos mira mirar el menú y de inmediato querer tomar nuestros pedidos. No volvería ni lo recomendaría. Hay cafés más baratos en la ciudad con personal que realmente te permite mirar el menú correctamente.

Always a good meal, service and cleanliness very good. Can be a little noisy due to the huge popularity of the establishment.

Finding it easy to drive in and park was a good start, then met by happy staff and served immediately with good food and fine coffee. All in all a nice place to have breakfast.

Excellent food and superb staff. Could right a book on how highly I rate this place but will be brief. Served as soon as we sat down, nice friendly polite staff, prompt drinks and food bought to the table then left to eat at leisure with occasional 'can I help'. Not pressured to eat up and leave. Piping hot food served up and big portions. Great place, highly recommended!

Went here with the wife as was i was in need for a fry up, no frills just a fry up. It’s hard to find one these days I find every seems to do fancy ones which just don’t do the job.

This is a good clean cafe. With its own free parking. It’s very clean well staffed. The food was good quality and well cooked. My only personal criticism if any is before you have time to sit down the waitress asks if you would like a drink. I personally don’t like this. I like to at least have a minute or two to look at the menu and prices. So I can comfortably decide what I want.

I went here for breakfast twice after a trip to the nearby car boot sale and I was most impressed! The food is simple a tasty but the women working there were friendly, attentive and kept things in order. Service was fast and prices were very reasonable. It was a great place to eat!!

Cafe Solo is brilliant, spacious, clean, parking, a garden and an extensive menu. Quick efficient service and daily specials.

I ordered a home made curry and got a well, what can I call it. A curry with half a plate of salads,curry and rice studded with whatever it was. The curry appeared to be one of those silver foiled version, definetely not home made. The waiter did not have a clue about gluten free food and what it meant.

During last weeks cold and snowy weather I decided to treat myself to a fry up.

This is one of the best places to go, the food is great. They offer HUGE portions for a really good price. It’s amazing for breakfast and I often visit with friends!

Used this cafe for the first time today after driving pass it on many occasions, now realise what we had been missing. Excellent food and friendly staff. Will defiantly be going again. The place was very clean & nothing was too much trouble to the attentive staff.

Just popped in for a quick lunch. Simple food, well presented. The service is brilliant and the staff were very friendly. Do lots of proper breakfast options, a good selection of salads, paninis etc. and a cheap special which is different every day, so if you're a local or working nearby and want a cheap lunch, this is the place to go.

The food at Cafe Solo is SO good. I've only been for breakfast, but all my friends say you can get good food there for lunch and dinner too.
