Ok we should have turned round when we saw the uninspiring menu and a couple of uncleaned tables but we remember this place in its old venue, it was ok in fact it was more than ok. I’m not sure what has happened since. Scalding hot coffee and the worst sausage sandwich I have paid £5 for since I last got coaxed into trying a football match vending van. I left it after a brave attempt at a couple of mouthfuls. Yes I should have complained but apart from one guy rushing around behind the counter there was literally no one to give feedback to. Not rushing back….ever

My boyfriend and I always walk past this cafe and say we want to try it. Well today we did and it was great. Ordered sweet chilli chicken panini, and chorizo and tomato panini with tea and a chocolate milkshake. All great, couldn’t fault it. Also, I came dressed in blue dungarees with a red top and the cashier called me Mario for the duration of our stay :D I thought this was hilarious and I love to see staff with a sense of humour.

Tried this cafe for the first time with my wife a couple of days ago. I had coffee and a "Yorkshire Ham sandwich". I had no problem with the coffee but the sandwich left a lot to be desired. I could hardly find the ham and it was that thin sliced stuff you get cheaply at the supermarket and also the bread was dry and stale. The best part was the tortilla chips you got on the side. The service was slow and no one even bothered to ask if it was ok. Much better cafes than this in Huddersfield so I would recommend you give this one a miss.

Assuming this is the same business, now located in Victoria Lane - the waitress who served us gave the impression she would rather be somewhere else. I ordered the humous wrap, but could see or taste any humous in it. It had whole grain mustard listed as one of the ingredients. Though this seemed unusual, it didn’t put me off as I like mustard. However, the mustard was overwhelming. I took it back to the counter as showed another waitress that the humous was missing. She got me another wrap but it was the same as the first one. So what I ate was a small wrap with a bit of salad and mustard. I don’t have a large appetite, but I was still famished after eating here.

Went for lunch after finding ourselves in Huddersfield one lunchtime. Been a few times prior to Covid lockdowns and it was always buzzing. Whilst we appreciated that the place would be quiet as it used to be well patronised by Kirklees employees the most of whom are still working home home, we were surprised to be the only customers at 12:30pm. We thought we ought to support so we stayed. Never again, the order took ages the hot beef sandwich was cold and whilst we didn't want salad with that, there was no salad with the egg mao wrap. No we didn't complain as we had waited long enough for something they couldn't get right and it was their only order! Never again.

Really disappointed not been for over a year since before lockdown and was really looking forward to it. We visited the New one on the corner near the library. Decor is stunning, nice and relaxing, very comfortable. The service was great. The food was below average. No gluten free options despite advertising there was. We ordered 2 large breakfasts, there was no changes available so despite for me saying no bread, bread still came. The sausage contained gluten, my partner who could it it said it tasted OK. We were told only one of us could have 2 eggs the other 1 egg as they had run out of eggs!! These weren't very nice. The hash browns also contained gluten, I didn't eat this but my partner didn't like his either. The beans were cold. Overall I ate just the mushrooms and bacon, these tasted good slightly luke warm but were edible. My partner ate over half of his so can't have been an amazing breakfast as he normally eats it all including anything I can't eat due to containing gluten. I ordered a decaf flat white, and a latte, I got a decaf latte and a normal latte. But these were both good. I may bob in for coffee again as the staff and surroundings were lovely but I won't order food.

I had the 3 egg mushroom omelette which was delicious and very reasonably priced with gluten free bread(at my request) and side salad. The meals were brought up to us and served with a smile. Our meeting was good and we were able to play our worship music without any complaints from the staff or occupants. I would strongly recommend using Cafe Society if you have a group you would like to start as there is no extra cost for using the room.(We are a registered charity) Thank you to Sam and all the staff for making our first meeting at Cafe Society such a joy.

Being celiac, I have found it very difficult to eat and and trust places for cross contamination. Food here is excellent, good price and very tasty. Much question though.... I was told I could not have the ketchup sachets as they were not gluten free and was provided with a small ramekin instead. Unsure why I couldn’t have the ketchup, never had issues before and after doing research I don’t believe they contain any wheat/barley etc.

Went here on a Saturday lunchtime with three friends, we had booked for 12.45 and our table was waiting with a reserved sign, it was busy so we were glad we had booked, although there were people coming and going on a regular basis. Having looked at the menu and decided from the list of good sounding food, I choose a ham, cheese and relish toastie on brown bread. You order at the counter and pay at the same time. I also chose a white chocolate key lime pie hot drink, total was just over £8. The drinks and food for the four of us came at different times although the staff knew we were all at the same table, one lady had just about finished her food before I got mine, in fact I had to remind a waitress that I had ordered a drink, which then arrived within a couple of minutes. The toastie came with a side salad and overall it was a nice choice to have, although there was only two slices cut in half, not filling for a growing lad, but ok for ladies who lunch!! The white chocolate drink was ok, a little taste of lime but not strong. I will be going back sometime, it is a good cosy atmosphere and the staff are nice and pleasant. 8/10.

They have GF cakes as well - really lovely sticky cakes always available that is a real delight when most cafes have nothing suitable at all.The children's menu is very well priced and they provide plastic plates and cups that really suit toddlers. They also have lego, books, stickle-bricks and more to keep your little ones entertained as they prepare the food. This is my 4 year old daughters favourite cafe, so I end up in here on average about once a fortnight.A decent range of hot and cold drinks, cakes and snacks and a food menu that is sufficiently varied but not overly extensive and reasonably priced. The best thing for me is the kids menu - you can't go wrong at £1.50 for a kids omlette! The quality of the food and drink is always reliably good, service is speedy enough for food that is freshly made and the staff are always friendly and helpful.Good range of books and toys to keep the kids entertained. The only area for improvement would be the addition of another toilet and proper baby change facilities (rather than a changing mat for the floor - doesn't bother me however I can see how it might make life tricky for others). All in all, my 'go to' cafe in Huddersfield where I know all the family will be well fed and welcomed.

I literally was just walking around Huddersfield to check out the town before I went to the National Coal Mining Museum in Overton and I found this place. I always love to visit a local joint when I visit somewhere so I decided to walk in. It was your typical mom and pop coffee shop with a cute ambiance. There was a young man sitting there reading the paper eating breakfast. This place has both food and drink. I did not pay attention much to the food, I know there is gluten free food because I saw it on the website later on. Anyway, while I was looking at the coffee menu I noticed they had soya available for a latte so I ordered a latte to stay. I was given the latte in a mug and I sat along the window near the young man reading the paper. From the window you can see a part of a park and then there was just the street. Overall, it was a nice cute little cafe to experience as I walked around Huddersfield. Should I end up in Huddersfield again, I'd look for it on Google Maps to find it again.

I have visited Café Society several times and usually have toast and coffee. Today I had a breakfast. I didn't want sausage and was offered another piece of bacon instead. The food was freshly cooked - no pre-cooked and warmed up bacon etc, and served with a smile. The coffee came a few minutes before my meal but was piping hot and stayed warm until I had finished my meal. There is plenty of room to sit either at a table or on big settees. Daily papers are available to read and tables are cleared and cleaned as soon as is possible but there is no rush for you to move. If I have a criticism it is that the plates are not warmed thus making your food feel a little cold. All in all a very good meal at a reasonable price.

It was one of those moor-grimy days when the stones and windows of Huddersfield glower down at you. After an impulse purchase from Vinyl Tap, it was time to seek shelter and refreshment at a little café I know called Café Society, situated towards the far end of Byram Street in the direction of the open market. The café is somewhat tucked away on the lower ground floor of the immensely solid "Revenue Chambers", with an unobtrusive (for once in the Victorian New Town) art deco sign inviting one in.You go to the counter - none of this "please be seated and I will take your order business" - which would not work anyway. This was Saturday - busy but not throng - and my chicken sandwich with herby mayonnaise and a proper cup of coffee arrived in less than two minutes. A pot of coleslaw, salad and some of those tortilla crisps came with it. OK, I know it was difficult to get wrong but this cafe is for light lunches and snacks mainly, although you can get more substantial fare I believe. The young staff were extremely polite - lovely I would say.Fittingly having just come from Vinyl Tap (also recommended BTW), I sat at a coffee table overlooked by Billie Holliday, listened to background jazz - and perused the Yorkshire Post - to check up on the views of Yorkshire farmers and of course read about Town. Watching the feet of passers by through the steamy front windows, I was half expecting Alan Bennett to pop in.When I'd finished my lunch, I left - I didn't hang around doodling on one of those thingamabob things: hint to others to free up tables.Café, Society and Huddersfield might seem contradictory terms but, as the visitor will discover on arrival at the station, this is far from the truth. Not posh, a little bit civilised, and away from the multiples that spoil John William Street and New Street.

I visited this cafe most weekdays for a full cooked breakfast and coffee and I have to say that the quality of the food, drink and also the prices are excellent. The cafe is spaceous, comfortable and relaxing and also has good free WIFI.The cafe operates a “suspended coffee” scheme whereby they serve free beverages (and food, I believe) to those unable to purchase it. Whilst this is very admirable and also a very good and worthwhile cause, it does mean that they get some unpleasant looking (and sorry to say this) smelling characters coming in and out.On my last visit, I had just sat down with a full cooked breakfast when a well known Huddersfield homeless man appeared in the cafe door and literally stood there waiting for the attention of the staff. Because they were busy, it took them nearly 5 minutes to fetch him a take out coffee and during this time he hacked, coughed and spat on the pavement, whilst staring at people trying to eat their breakfasts. I had to leave my breakfast and walk out.I know that helping the homeless is important, but because of this they have lost a loyal and paying customer.

Very nicely decorated with some good artwork. It was clean, comfortable and relaxing. The food is prepared fresh in the open kitchen area and was just what we needed. Delicious. We also had a couple of very nice coffees, and a slice of cake just as extra protection against the wet weather. The staff here are welcoming, friendly and very good at what they do. We visit this cafe usually on a Sunday. The food is prepared in front of you which is reassuring and the food is sourced locally and is delicious. Normally have full English or poached eggs on toast, neither greasy. Staff very helpful and the atmosphere is relaxed and not hurried. Have visited during the week and this cafe is busier and very popular. Nice to recommend a cafe that is local.

A great place to relax in the middle of a shopping trip. I feel comfortable as soon as walk in, and always know I’ll get a great cup of tea with a delicious bit of cake, or a tasty sandwich if I’m feeling more sensible. Breakfast is also good here. Café Society also has personality, compared to going in a chain café – it’s miles above a faceless corporation for taking time out of your day to recharge your batteries. The staff are fab too, very helpful if you need anything.

My friends and I are now regular visitors of this café, we always enjoy the food, the service is friendly and efficient and the prices are good! The atmosphere is relaxing, definitely one of the best places to eat in the town centre. Sunday breakfast is also very good, tied in with a visit to the local "Up-market" makes for a pleasant outing.

We visit here quite regularly as we are a big fan of the quesadillas, they are very tasty. Service is quick and the food is very reasonably priced. There is a good choice of cakes which is nice to have as a treat afterwards.

Shopping in Huddersfield, we decided to pop in here for lunch. Shame it is at the 'wrong' end of Huddersfield as there were not many people in on a Friday lunchtime. My friend had a roast beef sandwich with thick gravy along with one of their speciality coffees. I chose from the Christmas Special and had an quesadilla with tomatoes, onion and mozzarella served hot with guacamole and salad - unusual and absolutely delicious. Very reasonably priced.

Cafe society does a really good value for money veggie breakfast, and supports local community with money off for the local W.I. and being involved in the Suspended Coffee project. They play a lot of jazz too, which is great by me!

We've eaten here on a few occasions and always enjoyed the food and the environment very much. The soups and omlettes are particularly good and everything is excellent quality. The decor is quirky and theme is great. However, even though there are more than ample staff (8 on our last visit - how do they make a profit!!), customers still have to go to the counter to order whilst the waitresses stand around looking a bit bored. They are really friendly when they take your order at the counter and when they bring your food to the table, so going the extra mile and taking your order at the table would make it even better. This is a very good cafe which deserves to be really popular, but just needs to find something at street level to lure the punters in as it has always tended to be fairly quite when we've visited.

We stumbled across the cafe for the first time today. The cafe is spacious and had a varied menu. Our food arrived quickly and was delicious. There is a lovely feeling to the place and we did not feel rushed during our visit. We visited with my 21 month old Grandaughter and we felt it was really child friendly. There was a varied children's menu which was really good value for money and we were made to feel very welcome.A great experience and we would highly recommend to anyone.

As a coeliac living in Huddersfield it's nice to know I can have something to eat with the confidence it has been prepared in a gluten-free way. Unfortunately, there are cafes/restaurants that serve GF food but don't fully understand the complexities of maintaining a GF procedure throughout. After visiting Cafe Society on numerous occasions and watching their food prepping I'm more than happy with their GF procedures. I agree with WanderingGerbil regarding the service but maybe, Mr WG, you need to plan on getting there earlier.

Zipped in to this delightful cafe bar for a quick bite during a busy working week. Loved the feel and atmosphere of the place. Chilled and fresh with a vintage feel, gramaphones and vinyl on the walls and a great freshly cooked light menu. I had a ham salad which was really crisp and colourful as well as tasty... oh and thumbs up to the hmemade coleslaw!

The welcome is always warm and the food excellent. I come here often with my partner for brunch, I have business meetings here and I run a monthly networking group upstairs. The owners, Alec and Lizzy, are always welcoming and friendly and the home cooked food and lovely cake is worth every penny.

I often pop in here for a cup of tea, and usually cake too, if I need a quick break. The staff are helpful and friendly and the products good quality and good value. The cakes are tempting and it is hard to choose! There is a relaxed atmosphere, and it feels like an individual place to be, with a jazz style theme in the décor and menus. I have always been served quickly and I do notice as I’m always rushing off – but if I do have time this is a nice place to linger.

Headed here after an overnight stay in Huddersfield, after readin TA reviews. Wasn't at all disappointed. The cafe itself is large, clean and has a very relaxed atmosphere. The family who run it are nice and friendly. The breakfasts we had were great, and served on warmed plates (it's the small things that make the difference).Free WIFI and they were happy to let us plug our phone in to charge.Definitely recommended.

Myself, and some family including 8 children came to vanilla bean 2 weeks back and had such a pleasant experience. We all had dinner, drinks and pudding and every single meal was lovely. My 11 year old niece had the lamb shank and she said she loved it. The lady that served us, I believe her name was Carol Was such a delight. She was so happy, lovely with the children and nothing was too much. I know the food plays a massive part in eating out but so does the staff. If I was to go to a restaurant and have rude staff it would make me not want to go back. Carol was so welcoming so thank you for that. I was Carol in a shop not long after going to vanilla bean and she recognised me from our outing to vanilla bean and again she was just so pleasant and lovely! I’d definitely say she’s a credit to this place. We will definitely be back. Thank you x

Went after looking for a local pub that we have not visited for a meal. Delighted to find this great place as not many good places around Mirfield. A very helpful landlord and great food at reasonable prices. We went around 4.30 without booking and got the last table. Recommend booking in advance. Menus varied and Sunday lunch menu looks really good so we will have to try it and feed back. Can recommend the 10oz gammon steak which comes with egg and pineapple. Also I think that the chips are homemade! They are having issues with their website but you can find menus on facebook. Give it a try and you won’t be disappointed.
