Cafe Rouge - Highgate in Camden

Turquoise had just opened. They've done a fabulous job in redecorating the old Cafe Rouge. Brightly coloured, it's warm and welcoming and the food is very good. I've only eaten there once with a friend, but we both really enjoyed our lunches. I had garlic prawns; she had lamb chops and both were delicious. In the centre of Highgate Village, it's a lovely place to pop in for coffee, which I have also done.

I visited with a good friend this past June. I had the salmon and it was great. Elena was my waitress. She was prompt and very friendly. I got to chatting with Robert and David - two other employees there. They were both very funny and kind. I will go back next time I am in London and hope to see Elena, Robert, and David again!

I would like to say restaurant is situated in the heart of beautiful and quiet Highgate.As you enter the place you are welcomed by a magnificent setting. Restaurant is big and with atmosphere friendly for business meeting or romantic date.The menu offers a wide variety of french cuisine/beef steaks/fish and sea food/duck or chicken.In offer there is a tasty lunch and evening menu which is worth to try includes 3 courses so no disappointment. The chefs takes great care in selecting the best quality of food. Me and my friend had a 8oz steaks with no fat and delicious taste. I am quite fussy so my thanks is going to the kitchen for MsAgata. The restaurant also caters for all tastes by providing a selection of the best wines, which are worth sampling. Service was very good and fast. Mr Martin was smiley and kind, able to explain nearly all menu to my friend and give perfect advice. I highly recommend to give this place a try and enjoy this wonderful experience. Thank You

I’ve visited Café Rouge for a quick lunch in August. I had the garlic mushroom, which were nice and creamy, and the rhubarb crumble with my coffee. The food was good and our waitress, Elena, was really helpful and nice. I will visit again

Tuvimos un almuerzo pre-ordenado como parte de un recorrido. Pescado y papas fritas o pollo y papas fritas. Ambos eran aceptables pero no la comida habitual que esperamos de Caf Rouge. Buen servicio Hubiéramos preferido ver el menú y haber pedido de él, pero como parte de la gira, estábamos un poco restringidos.

Fuimos a cenar al Café Rouge después del teatro en el Gatehouse, comimos pan de ajo, hamburguesas de ternera y una hamburguesa de pollo. El pan de ajo era fresco y crujiente y muy bueno, y las hamburguesas eran jugosas, espesas y muy sabrosas con una buena porción de papas fritas bien cocinadas nuevamente. Todo el personal fue muy amable y el servicio fue bueno. Recomendaría especialmente la hamburguesa Angus.

Encantador lugar, durante los muchos años que llevo aquí siempre me ha encantado: excelente decoración, cada área de descanso con diferentes cosas para mirar. La comida siempre es excelente, y la nueva incorporación de salmón al menú en los últimos meses es una adición muy bienvenida: siempre encantadora, sabrosa, cocinada a la perfección con buenos acompañamientos. También hacen una versión sin gluten (sin salsa), y el personal está específicamente capacitado para atender a GF (sin contaminación cruzada).

Possibly the worst service I have ever known in London. 20 minutes of attempting to get service is enough time wasted that I won’t get back. What more can be said?

Got to the Cafe, waited miles too long for service and for the food to arrive, Got 2 Burgers , , Dry, bun, one bit of lettuce, half a tomato for £13, Fries or fritas had been reheated, probably leftovers from other customers, FOOD IS RUBBISH, A BIG mac tastes much better than this for £1.99

We recently visited this restaurant for dinner and were met with fantastic service by Tomas! Portions were larger than other branches of Cafe Rouge and we enjoyed sitting outside for our meal :)

Great value only £12.50 per person! Service was a bit slow but it was extremely busy. When we caught the waitress or waiter attention service was good. We had a lovely time !

Been coming here for a while now, and am always interested in what it will be like each time. Will it be packed out, leaving the poor staff literally running about in response to 100 requests, and a long time for my food because I'm not the only one in the place, or will it be quiet, fast, and calm? Etc. Whatever the circumstance, I find the food good, and the service kind and attentive. I especially love the ocassional dance I've seen one of the waiters do!

This was our first visit to any Cafe Rouge. We arrived as a family of 6 for a dinner reservation. Upon arrival we were not greeted and hovered awkwardly waiting for someone to come and seat us, when he did arrive and we told him we had a table booked he didn’t take our name etc and just sat us down and walked off.

Despite there not being a lot of people in the restaurant when we arrived lunch time service was very slow, even for drinks. My husband ordered fish and chips.He said that they were very ordinary and not to a standard he would have thought that Cafe Rouge aspire to in that the fish batter was soggy. Quite clearly had come out of the freezer. I had chicken and chips which were nice. Lots of chicken and well cooked. We both had creme brule which was good. We ran out of time to have a coffee because we had waited so long.

This is a large, comfortable and attractive restaurant in Highgate. Delicious toasted sandwiches ("croques"), deli burgers and omelettes. Prices are high, but no more than elsewhere locally. A little taste of France in an attractive part of London.

Service a bit on the slow side but cocktai;ls were great and my steak was cooked perfectly. Nice ambience and peaceful and quiet unlike some places on a saturday evening.I really like the layout and decor of ths particular branch which maintains a high standard.

Decepcionante. Tenía un cupón para un vaso de Prosecco gratis para todos los que ordenaban desde el menú principal. El camarero sirvió los vasos y los puso en una bandeja, pero no los sirvió. Dos de nosotros pedimos del menú principal y nos dijeron que ninguno de los platos estaba disponible. Esto se debió a un almuerzo muy ocupado. Cuando intentamos sustituirlo con una opción del menú, nos dijeron que no podíamos tener una copa gratis de Prosecco. Todo este tiempo el fizz estaba desapareciendo de las gafas que esperaban. Dos de mis invitados trataron de ordenar desde el menú principal y el menú para obtener la opción que deseaban y aún estaba disponible. Les dijeron que esto no estaba permitido. Le dije que no iba a los restaurantes para que me dijeran lo que podía y no podía comer. Pregunté a mis invitados si preferirían irse a otro restaurante. El camarero decidió darnos a cada uno de los vasos aún en espera de vino ahora casi plano. Le pregunté por el gerente. Finalmente, mezclamos los menús para obtener lo que queríamos; Encontramos sustitutos para los diversos platos que estaban "apagados" y el gerente nos trajo una botella de Prosecco "sin abrir" fresca en la casa y así nos salvó el día. La comida era buena y después de un comienzo muy desfavorable disfrutamos el resto de la noche, pero no recomendaría este restaurante.

Stop by Cafe Rouge in Highgate for a quick lunch, excellent service by the manager, lovely Confit the canard with orange sauce and a Aperol spritz made perfectly and at the end a White chocolate & pistachio parfait that was fabulous.

Lately me and the children (and their friends) have been going on a weekly basis to this lovely cafe’ as a snack/treat after their school pick up.

Mi bouillabaisse era una receta "nueva": estaba tan salada que cuando llegué a casa tuve que beber pintas de agua. Ciertamente no es una receta mejorada. Cuando compartí esto con otros amigos, dijeron que recientemente habían tenido una experiencia similar en Brighton. Estoy triste, has sido un modo de espera favorito durante muchos años, pero no estoy seguro de que volveré. . . . . El mercado de restaurantes es tan competitivo hoy en día que seguramente no puede permitirse decepcionar a sus clientes de esta manera. Just had lunch. He good took forever in a restaurant which wasn’t anywhere near full. And food was not worth the wait. Not coming back.

Food was nice, very enjoyable local beer, staff very attentive and friendly - would eat here again. Prices were quite reasonable really too and there was a nice atmosphere.

We were 14 and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The set menu provided what we wanted but I thought it was not as good as other Cafe Rouge locations. I thought the house wines were average and I switched my red for a new world choice. That said we had an enjoyable meeting in an annex off the main area.

Never thought of going to Café Rouge before for breakfast. Had some friends staying and couldn't be bothered to cook breakfast and ended up in Café Rouge in Highgate. Very pleasantly surprised with the deal. Great prices, everything seemed fresh and the service was friendly and sharp. Food arrived and was hot and tasty. Pleasant change to see a reasonable bill as cheap as any local café. Well done Café Rouge.

Had lunch here after a visit to the cemetery. The food couldn't be faulted, very tasty. The only thing that let them down was the service, not very busy but took a long while to get food, very few staff on.

The food at Cafe Rouge is so bad, the last time I ate there the manager forgave us paying. An American, he said he was new and knew the restaurant was a mess. Further reports from locals indicate it has not improved. Even if you go for coffee or a drink outside, the service is ridiculously slow. This is sad because Highgate village needs good restaurants in mid range pricing.

Fantastic food and service, enjoyed my get-together dinner with friends. I'll definitely come back very soon :)

Came here on a Saturday night with my mum and niece and found a table outside but was a little cramped. We were given a menu and I went for the sirloin which was a little tough and chewy so wouldn't recommend. Also wasn't given a steak knive so was difficult to cut. My mum went for the moules which she said were nice but overcooked and my niece had an omlette which she enjoyed. The waited was a little stressed and the service was average.

Food/drink was absolutely outstanding and customer service was of a very good standard. I would highly recommend this restaurant.

Decent breakfast, served relatively efficiently. Can't help feel the staff were either overworked or under trained however, as while friendly and helpful, seemed stressed resulting in our drinks order being served to us twice.

Terrible service at cafe rouge Highgate. Drink order wasn’t taken for 30 minutes. Not only did they not take the order properly, causing one person at the table not getting their meal until 10-15 minutes after myself, but the waiter was not at all apologetic. We also asked for tap water with the drinks we ordered. It never came. When I asked for the bill, the waiter was so rude and said ‘I’m coming wait’ in a very condescending tone. We had to wait a good 20 minutes to actually get the bill. I then complained to the manager who just about apologised but did not press for details about why it wasn’t a good experience. Clearly the manager did not want to act on the feedback given. I would not return to this branch and strongly suggest that others do not visit.

Después de tomar nuestro pedido dos veces por dos personas diferentes, tuvimos que esperar más de 30 minutos y tenía que quejarse del hecho de que ni sirven las bebidas. Tardaron más de una hora a que llegara nuestra comida y las bebidas llegó después de nuestra comida! La calidad de la comida era horrible. Este era viernes por la noche, lo que significa que espera el restaurante estar ocupados, pero nos uno de los únicos. Pedimos la comida y la bebida, y la comida llegó después de 15 minutos. Pedimos un filete de 8 oz y una de 5 onzas, tanto de tamaño, una ensalada de atún mejillones en el caldo y algunas. Uno de los filetes era raro, y el otro estaba bien hecho. Las otras dos comidas estaban bien. Nuestra camarera (que en realidad era el barman) estaba trabajando muy duro, pero el director era simplemente sentarse en una mesa sin hacer nada. Pedimos hablar con el gerente sobre nuestra comida, porque nos dimos cuenta de que habíamos esperado tanto para nuestra orden debe confundirse. Popped in after watching the England Game and had a lovely steak and chips which was cooked just as I asked. Staff were friendly and attentive (esp the young Scottish guy) and will pop by again when in Highgate

Visited with a friend, we were just passing. Felt ill after eating dried frozen and refrozen fish cakes, waste of money, would never visit again. Do yourself a favour and go elsewhere.

I came to cafe rouge on a Saturday afternoon and ordered the fish cakes which was delicious. The waiters were very kind and friendly.

Hemos disfrutado comiendo en el Café Rouge en Highgate a lo largo de los años, pero cuando decidimos almorzar allí ayer, rápidamente nos cambiamos nuestros planes después de que llegamos. La zona exterior estaba sembrado de colillas de cigarrillos, mirando más a la fuera de un club nocturno de la ciudad 'la mañana después', que un restaurante highgate. Dentro, nos quitado nuestras sillas antes de que en una mesa, después descubrimos que aunque la mesa parecía seco, no limpio, y los condimentos estaban húmedas, como si hubiera sido una bebida durante una anterior de estar dividido. Además, la ventana/pared adyacente a la mesa estaba sucia.

Highgate is the best cafe rouge I have been to. Food is always good and well presented. The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly. Breakfast is excellent. What makes it different from the other branches is the staff, particular Megane, who is lovely and cannot do...

I’ve eaten at Cafe Rouge Highgate quite a few times in the last two or three years and have always enjoyed it. The food is consistently good as is the service - especially from their lovely French waitress Megane who is delightful. Highly recommended

Hemos estado viniendo aquí durante muchos años y encontramos esta rama de Café Rouge sea particularmente bueno. El servicio es siempre amable y profesional, y aunque la comida es precocinados, hemos tenido comidas mejor aquí que en muchos restaurantes independientes. El confite de pato y carnes destacan especialmente. En el marco de un restaurante de la cadena, esta rama supera las expectativas a precios competitivos.

Tuvimos una comida aquí el otro día con mi familia y me quedé muy impresionado con la comida y sobre todo el servicio. Ser Celíaco es muy difícil encontrar un restaurante que tiene un buen menú de novia, y eso me da confianza para preparar la comida sin gluten, pero sin duda volveré. Gracias especiales a nuestro camarero David por sus esfuerzos en busca de nosotros y hacernos sentir tan bienvenidos, buen trabajo!

Went there for a dinner waited ages to give an order. Few dishes not available from the menu. Very poor service and no manager around. Deffinitely not comming back.

Cafe Rouge in Highgate, best fillet steak I've had. The place is in an easy to reach place, friendly staff especially Megane, always bright and kind. I would recommend it to anyone . Total satisfaction.

La comida en el Café Rouge en Highgate era delicioso. La semana pasada, mi godchildren me compré para celebrar mi cumpleaños. Teníamos una increíble experimentado y un fantástico servicio al cliente con el personal llamado Ajvan (si me hechizo que correcto). Ella me cuidaron en todo momento y revisar en nosotros si la comida está bien. Yo tenía una pata de pato y mis nietos tenían pescado y patatas fritas, me encantó la comida y sabrosos. Era una chica dulce Ajvan y precioso. Altamente recomendable para los amigos y la familia.

Sunday , booked table for 4, upon arrival was told that the menu had a few things missing . Moules, crepes, garlic bread etc . Oh and no sparkling mineral water. Ordered Camembert, beetroot salad, bouillabaisse. Camembert was cold and the so call sauce that came with it was non discript. Beetroot salad had two raw pieces of beetroot some limp salad leaves and although I asked for extra goats cheese, finding it on the plate was quite a task. Bouillabaisse consisted of a large piece of frozen salmon , sappose to be sea bream on the menu a few moules they found from somewhere and a sauce that tasted like it came from a can. Can't believe this from a restaurant chain I've used many a time . Not the best way to treat your mum on Mother's Day. Needs sorting out. Have sent comment to cafe rouge.

We came here for Mother's Day lunch and were so looking forward to it. We waited 20min to order, then 20 min again to get drinks. We made the mistake of sitting near the back where a noisy waiter was moving bottles and cups etc around and making a terrible noise! So loud it drowned out the background music and our conversation.

I went for valentine's dinner with my wife yesterday, celebrating the fourth anniversary of the valentine's when I proposed to her at this restaurant. This time we went with our two year old daughter. The staff were a bit overworked, but very charming and made the evening memorable. We had two valentine specials - my steak was tender enough it did not need a steak knife. Nice pate starter. Mixed dessert platter to share including a particularly tasty white ice cream with nuts. Child three course as well for only £6.90 (I think). We will all be back.

I was just passing, early, on a damp and cold morning, and thought it looked a warm.and comfortable place to stop for a coffee. When I looked at the menu I couldn't resist ordering Eggs Benedict. It was excellent, so I phoned my daughter who rushed round to join me.

A very nice place to meet and have a bite. I had the butternut squash soup today which was superb. Their desserts are always yummy. Drinks also good. It's not cheap but I've never been let down by the quality and the service.

30 or so years ago I felt that the Café Rouge chain was very chic and the food seemed marvellous.

So glad I booked Cafe Rouge for my birthday lunch. 15 of us were given a separate room at the back which gave the kids space to move around whilst we ate and drank in peace. Excellent vegetarian selection and a good range on the menu to meet all tastes. The souffle was lovely, though we had already eaten so much of the delicious garlic bread. I even managed the Cafe Gourmand, 3 small deserts and a coffee, great value. Friendly service, excellent food. Thank you.

Today, I found this restaurant casually while I was visiting highgate and these beautiful gothic church, i loved the place, it was peaceful, and the warm welcome made me confortable. I liked the mixt between english and french traditional food and by the way it was nice to be served by a french. I hope to return soon.

Wasn't expecting too much but the service and food was fantastic! Cafe Rouge really seems to have upped it's game lately. I had the saumon which was perfectly cooked and well presented. Lovely warm welcome from Colin the manager. Set menu very good value also only 10.95 for two courses. Next time I'm in London I will be coming back for sure

Special praise to Manuel, an Italian waiter along with his colleagues, all of whom make all the difference between this and other branches of Café Rouge. They pay attention and politely wait on you, tending to every need, taking initiative with suggestions, but never interrupting your conversation (as is the norm in London!). They are also deft, and rather savvy about the menu and the wines. This is my preferred Cafe Rouge in London. Keep going back as it is very well located too,

Where else in Highgate can you sit outside on a sheltered and warm terrace in November, drinking delicious mulled wine and having classic French cuisine? Really friendly service as well. French brasserie classics like bouillabaise and steak frites, plus more creative dishes such as the excellent tangine and rillettes. The drinks are really good value, no matter if you want good quality French wine by the glass at an affordable price or interesting cocktails, such as Kir Rouge (for a fiver-who could say no?) or Poire Fizz. I go in the evenings for drinks/dinner but I am sure this is a good option for breakfast, lunch or coffee during the day too.

As a frequent visitor to Highgate I thought I would treat the misses to dinner out here .. while she had a typically French favourite Boeuf Bourguignon and found it reasonably enjoyable I went for the NEW on Menu Coq au vin ... whilst I thought this was a French dish of chicken braised in wine I'm guessing the chef doesn't understand the recipe for Coq au vin and totally forgot to put any wine in there ... it tasted bland was just like a typical Sunday dinner of chicken , mash , veg and gravy ... very disappointing and certainly wont be going back ... I guess maybe taste something before you add it to the menu :-/

I was dining in this restaurant with my husband few days ago and I was really surprised by the food and the French waitress (Mégane).Concerning the food I took à French speciality : bœuf bourguignon and it was delicious.My husband took a panacotta and he shared it with me Mégane was lovely, friendly and professional. She gave us precious advices!A place to go!

Fantastic waitress last night who simply could not do enough for us, and the rest of the team were also lovely. It's a great place to settle in with our nephew and niece and play some card games while waiting for dinner- lots of alcoves with tables that give you space to spread out. The food, as always, really could be better, though. My nephew and I had rump steaks which were soggy and unpleasant, and the side salads were watery and needed a lot of salt. The chicken and chips my husband and niece had were better, but the only good dish was the starter croquettes, which really are delicious.I don't expect anything like actual French bistro cooking at Cafe Rouge, frankly, but the steak was pretty shocking. You have to order very carefully here! We didn't have time to send them back because we had the cinema to get to, but I'd advise everyone to avoid it. And download the 40% off mains voucher before you go as the quality of the food is not worth the menu prices. But if you want somewhere with lots of space, top-quality service and pretty surroundings, then it's fine - with a voucher.

This was the worst dining experience I can recall. We had reserved a table for 1.45pm and had email confirmation of our booking. When we arrived we were told they had no record of the booking. We were told a coach party had arrived which had been prebooked but the restaurant was unaware of. It took 45 minutes for our order to be taken. Only part of our drinks order arrived. The glasses were still wet when they arrived at the table. The steaks were burnt, one arrived with chips instead of salad, two of the sauces were missing. The one sauce that did arrive was grainy and inedible. Just appalling!!!!!

The venue itself is very welcoming and beautiful. The menu is very varied and the food we ordered was very tasty. Sadly the service was incredibly slow. It took nearly 1h30 for a Croque-Madame to be served (essentially a cheese and ham toastie) and another 30 mins for 2 scoops of ice-cream. Other customers too were waving to the staff to get their attention, walking up to the bar to order food and shouting out to the waiters. When we finally received our deserts, whilst eating, we were chased by our waiter for payment as he was nearing the end of his shift. So after waiting an age for the food I had ordered, I had to stop half way through, to pay the waiter...

I had the 10oz Rib eye steak and my mate had the chicken with herb mash all great and great desserts, I had the chocolate fondant she had the Apple tart. The French names I can't remember the service was quick and professional and the locale nice. Will go again!

..and we were not the only ones, hoping to enjoy a vip invitation to taste the enticing new autumn menu. Suffice to say i have written direct to HQ as our list of complaints too long but based on appalling service and eventually (when any/parts of our order arrived) certainly not up to CF standards.

Went here for lunch today as part of a large party and seated at the rear of the restaurant close to the bar. Bit of a mix up with our meal on the part of our tour company I believe, but we were all served lukewarm hake and fries. My friend and I moved seats as it was so draughty due to a door being open as workmen were on the premises, A member of staff kindly closed the door for around 20 minutes but it was opened again once the workmen finished their break. Quite the worst meal I've ever had in a Cafe Rouge to be honest. If you visit here try to sit in the front part of the restaurant unless you want to keep your coat on.

As a Foodie Group, we don't usually go to restaurant chains, but Cafe Rouge emailed me their summer menu and were kind enough to send me a 40% discount voucher, so it would have been rude not to accept.....Just four of us were free to take part at lunchtime today. The staff were very friendly, but - despite the restaurant being almost empty - the service was very slow. One of us chose the mussels, which she thought were a bit salty, but enjoyed them nevertheless; one ordered the vegetable tajine, which was fine; the third ordered a crepe...which came without any crepe (!)....I believe the delivered the wrong choice, but she decided not to send it back, but was disappointed. I chose the bouillabaisse, believing that it was better to choose a French classic in a French restaurant, and I made an excellent choice. It arrived bursting with salmon and whitefish, large prawns and mussels, served with French bread. Quite simply, it was delicious and I was more than happy.

Coffee and hot chocolate are very good, but I'll always remember this place for a specific day: I was living in Highgate, it was rainy and cold; I got in and I have ordered a 'banana flambè crepe' and that just made my day! It was the most delicious crepe of my life! Try it to trust it! :)

Unfortunately this turned out to be very disappointing. First visit to this branch, we were told at least 3 of the mains were sold out, and then 2 again when given the dessert menu... might've been easier to ask what they actually did have! Very poor starters of olives (smallest Black Olives I've ever seen & the Green ones were like bullets) & bread serving very sparse. Everything else including mains pretty average.

I had dinner at this establishment. Our table was pre booked. Some of the food served was great and other dishes was very average. The Trout was good, the steak was poor and the bouillebaise was very average. The portions was fair. The prices was high. The service was average. The atmosphere was nice and the restaurant allowed pets outside which appreciated. It is very nice to see people and their pets enjoying some time out. The flowers on the table was plastic. i dislike plastic flowers and thought it detracted from the general look of the place.

Eduard and Thea were our servers and they were charming and friendly, not forgetting very helpful. The food was delicious and I am vegetarian so it is always nice to discover tasty veggie dishes.

Great to return after several months and a very disappointing experience here in March BUT resolved brilliantly by customer service - to 5* full recommendation for the current Summer set menu offer. 2 course + fizz, 3 of us tasted a lot of the comprehensive menu. Pannier of mushrooms, asparagus & watercress soup and pate all got thumbs up as did pork schnitzel and moules main courses. Daughter thoroughly recommends tarte tatin ice cream. Loved eating on the interior patio..under shade but best was seeing a friendly face as our server that was sadly lacking on last visit. Very enjoyable experience and lovely summer menu.

We often come here for coffee or a light lunch. It's a nice spot in Highgate Village to watch the world go by. Monika is lovely and looks after her customers very well.

Very nice and clean restaurant. Service was very good and we had a table by the window so we could watch the world go by. There were a number of tables outside which on a slightly warmer evening would have been nice. I had the best Beef Bourguingnon I have had at a Cafe Rouge and Wendy raved about the Tagine but things went a bit wrong on the dessert as Wendy's Fondant Aux Chocolats was more of a chocolate sponge. They were apologetic and offered a replacement but the moment was gone !Overall very good and highly recommended.
