Top quality food and service, pricey but as they say "you get what you pay for" and we certainly did - worth every penny. Food ingredients were obviously first class locally sourced from the sausage roll to the coffees, from the milkshakes to the fries - homemade mayo, nice touch! Service excellent from young staff and old and immaculate surroundings and deco. Feedback from ladies toilet - could have a better quality soap to keep up with the other exceptionally high standards! Thanks very much.

Lovely views, food tasty made from locally sourced goods. Prefer to eat in restaurant from china rather than from a takeaway box (if you sit outside). Choice is limited -and there is no paper copy of a menu- has to be done from tablet - sign of the times I suppose. Have visited a few times and will continue to do so.

Top quality brunch. We were a family of four and each of us had something different on the menu. The quality of the food and the selection was absolutely great. We also had coffee and juice. Superb. We really enjoyed the lobster evening, fabulous views over to Teignmouth and watched the rough waves crashing as we ate our food. The lobster was seasoned beautifully and the special butter with it and chips tasted amazing. They did a dairy free dessert which was very tasty too. There was also an unusual drinks selection which was nice to try. The staff were so helpful and friendly and we were made to feel very welcome. Well done!! 5 stars

Ouch! If you visit do check the online menu first rather than just order at the counter without looking as we did. £6.95 for a cheese scone - with a few green leaves and a tiny pot of chutney! The best cheese scone in the south Devon area costs £2.20 and has more cheese than the one here and is beautifully baked as well. It was difficult to taste the cheese on this scone and it was too crumbly. To compound the situation the regular coffees were the same as small in most places and the americano was only lukewarm. Coffee prices we know have increased but many cafes locally are much better value than here. Will not be likely to visit again.

I love our (many) trips to cafe ODE; it's a place we've brought visiting family and friends to often, over several years. Family and dog friendly, and never any issue, I often find myself checking the online menu over the weekend, to see if something especially appealing is on the card for that day. I've found the menu changes to be interesting, and considerately sourced. And over the times we've been, there has been several dishes that we've taken ideas from for our own meals at home, as they have proved to be outstanding combinations we can't help but try to copy! (Thank you!) Likewise, I've always found the owner and staff to be friendly, incredibly helpful and engaged with meeting our desires and requests. When being served for take-away/outside seating, I've been impressed that the ethics extend beyond the food, to things such as the compostable packaging and cutlery. Inside it has always been clean, and a wood burner for comfort, on those cold winter days. Outside has plenty of seating for the busy days, and I've never had a bad experience in either setting. I can honestly say this is probably our most frequently re-visited "local" venue, ever since we were first seduced by a mackerel and miso-slaw combination; and well worth our drive from nearby Exeter.

Me and my partner stayed in Teignmouth and had heard so many good things about this Cafe. Mainly for me because I love a real life fire and a bright open space and for him because he’s a real foodie ! The staff were very attentive and specifically pleasant in taking our orders or seeing if we had all we needed during our time. I was particularly impressed with the younger members of the team who really made the difference and went the extra mile. London is so busy and rushed so it was lovely to have amazing service, delicious food and the best view ever all in one beautiful place. I will always visit Ode, it’s a rare find.

Appalling service. Stood waiting to be served at the takeout counter for a good 15 minutes. Finally someone came but they serve the person stood behind us. I pointed out that we were waiting first but I was ignored. When they started chatting, I realised they were friend and didn’t care about other customers. We were not willing to wait any longer so went elsewhere. This was our second visit. The first was not much better but because it was in the summer and quite busy we let it go. We were however a bit disappointed with the amount of choice. However, we assumed they had sold out as it was busy. This time it was winter, still with little food options, and the only customers were our group and the one friend that was clearly more important. Needless ti say, we will not be returning.

I recently hosted my 60th birthday party at Cafe ODE. We had full use of the entire venue as the Cafe was closed to the public from lunchtime. Tim and all his staff could not have worked harder to make my birthday the very best! All my guests throughly loved the venue, the staff and especially the food produced by Tim and his team. The food is 5* and would give most Michelin star restaurants a run for their money. My guests (that came from different parts of the UK) said what a lovely place to have a private celebration. With the water view, the grassy area where children could play, the large tables put together to make plenty of room for guests to sit and the full use of the barn and inside areas to dance in! We had a guitarist, a band and a DJ that all loved playing there. I would highly recommend for wedding receptions, birthday or any celebrations. Thank you Tim and the entire team!

Whilst the ambience and food is great, the portion sizes are incredibly mean for the price. My dhal was in a tiny paper pot, about 300ml in volume... it reminded me of a little ice cream tub... accompanied with a‘flatbread’, (In reality a small tortilla wrap) for £12.95. The sausage (literally one small sausage) and chips my kids had at £5.50 each left them hungry too.Best to visit here after lunch or breakfast (ideally whilst you’re not hungry or thirsty) for an expensive tiny, but nice tasting, coffee instead of ordering overpriced food and hoping to feel that your hunger and/ or thirst will satiated for a reasonable price. My family are fit and healthy so I am not basing portion size expectations on a wish to gorge in a glutinous manner.

This cafe operates on the principles of sustainability and recycling. This starts with the building itself - in places the wool insulation can be seen poking out between the wooden boards - and the eco-friendly toilets. It exhibits in the presentation of food and cutlery provided. The chairs are an eclectic mix of recycled furniture. This does not make for a smart environment, but that is not what this place is about. It is friendly and welcoming and comfortable, without sacrificing the environment. But it is food which matters most. for most people. We had quite simple lunches but we thoroughly enjoyed them. Other food served looked lovely too. The menu was quite limited but plenty of appealing items. However I always like a short menu in a small venue: you know they will be able to cope with providing it, in good time and good quality. Love this place would return whenever possible

We had really mixed thoughts about Cafe ODE. The setting, atmosphere and eco-friendy credentials ticked a lot of boxes for us. We are both vegans and appreciated the fact that there were options on the menu and others that the chef was happy to create for us. Like the previous reviewer, we had vegan Korma and thought that it was too expensive for what it was - served in a cardboard pot for £11.95. Yes there were chilies and crispy shallots on top and a cut up and griddled wrap on the side & it was really tasty and well cooked - sorry but £12 was too expensive - £7.95 would have been about right. We would return for a coffee but would think twice about buying food - sorry!

We visited Cafe Ode for breakfast and it was a very mixed experience. I had the “Ode Big Bun” which is the closest thing to a traditional cooked breakfast on the menu. All the ingredients used were amazing, one of the tastiest sausages I have ever eaten. But in my opinion it was all ruined by shoving it in a bun and then asking you to eat it off a tiny wooden saucer which led to what was probably one of the least elegant eating spectacles around!Serve a traditional English breakfast on a plate and I would definitely be back, but I don’t really want to pay £9 for one sausage, a little bit of a bacon and an egg in a bun.

First visit and mixed feelings. The menu was very limited, all being on a chalkboard. Perhaps this was because it was on a Sunday? We had one Korma and one soup. The Korma was served in a small pot with a side of homemade flatbread. Tasty but there was not much of it. The soup was served in a very small pot with one smallish piece of bread. Again tasty but not much of it. The side of skinny fries was substantial and tasty as was the side of olives. The service was friendly and the view over Teignmouth stunning. We felt that the Korma at £12 and the soup at £7 were a tad overpriced. We were a little disappointed but will try again.

So, moving onto breakfast, I had a croissant with free range scrambled eggs, and my wife had sauteed mushrooms on sour dough. I thought mine was tasty, made with fresh eggs, probably local as well. My wife thought here's was OK but preferred her breakfast at the Clipper Cafe. Her comment was that everything was bread related....for example you could have a blt sourdough sandwich for breakfast and the breakfast choices were just a bit strange. She definitely thought there could be some more mainstream choices without such a high carbohydrate content!! So in short, I would go back, my wife wouldn't ...so that's probably the one and only time we go!!?!!?

We look after vulnerable adults so this is a great escape which we also use to come for an ice cream and take in the view over teignmouth. The cleanliness is of a very high standard always. The quality of the food is above and beyond and though we are low paid, its worth every penny every time. The chocolate brownie is something else..... Wow, its gluten free which we arent, but its done so perfectly we like to take some home to have warm with clotted cream for a dessert. We tried a couple to start with and are venturing further into the cake department a step at a time. I look forward to trying out a meal here at some point, all the food and options are reasonably priced and very accommodating to all tastes and diets. Even the exterior of the building is just inviting. The fact that they take dogs means when my mum visits next we will be dragging them all in. Thank you very much for your hospitality, a huge asset to the local area. Highly highly recommended.

If you like organic and vegan options at the expense of taste and quality then this is your place. We weren't impressed with the options. The service appeared disorganised.

Wasn't very hungry but decided to try a few things, Cake for the ladies and I had marmalade on toast. Not just any though, home made marmalade made using Seville oranges on sourbread toast. Decent portion and good job as everyone in my party wanted to try it! So good my daughter bought a jar (not normally sold separately) to take home. Rustic environmentally friendly cafe with everything sold recyclable - they take this very seriously, lovely atmosphere throughout with friendly staff.

We love cafe ODE. It produces a great menu of local and seasonal dishes. The team pride themselves on their commitment to reducing their impact on the environment with lots of eco action such as Biodegradable cutlery and packaging. It's a little more expensive than other cafes in Shaldon but it's worth the additional cost as the staff are friendly, the decor is warm and inviting (especially the logburner in the winter). It's kid and dog friendly too. Just a great place to visit. Food wise I'm a one trick pony so not worth me ofering much in the way of advice. I always opt for the fish and chips which are fresh and perfectly cooked. If I'm not having a meal I'll have a coffee and a brownie (also pretty top notch). There's more seating in the cafe now than there used to be since they did away with the brewery. On a sunny day, you can sit outside at their huge tables - you do overlook a car park but beyond it are nice views of Teignmouth.

Great setting despite being in a car park, lovely interior with wood fire, and great food. The portions were hot and very generous making them good value for money and feel good factor of all the ecological details of the business.

Gorgeous food. We visited twice during our weekend trip to teignmouth, we were THAT impressed. We are coeliacs and we were well looked after. The food was amazing - all cooked in a CARBON NEUTRAL kitchen. I loved the staff who couldn't do enough for us. The kitchen produces no waste - everything is organic, local and scraps are composted. Definitely no plastic. They even produce their own electricity. I wish more companies would adopt this way of doing business.

I have always been a huge fan of daytime Cafe ODE and was excited to experience their new evening dining option. I was not disappointed. Fantastic three course set menu plus a welcome cocktail for £20/head - incredible value for money. Attentive and friendly staff throughout. Wonderful atmosphere with the log fire. Can't wait to come back again!

What a view and beautiful surroundings to dine in on our family week away, been told by locals to try it out, the food tasted average but did have different selections to chose from and views to die for, still not sure we liked eating out of a cardboard box but do understand what there are trying to do also.

I’ll admit, I’ve gone 5 because the staff were kind, the food nice, the place welcoming, nice view, will be back ... hence the 5 star. That said do have something that bugs... the boxes and plastic cutlery. Yes I dig the sustainability and I suspect cost is in there not washing up etc. however in terms of the experience trying to cut toast with runny eggs in a small box doesn’t fit with the rest of the experience. I see others have commented similar. Would suggest the feedback is taken (which I didn’t give at the time hence I’ve given the higher score) as it’s the difference would be tempted to make this a regular haunt with the tweak above. Note I see the big bench tables have gone which is great, much better not having to share (as hipster as that may be) and one wonders if that was on the back of feedback too. The difference between good and great comes down to some plates and a knife and fork!

Visited today on recommendation. Falafel in flat bread tasty, crab patties & relishes tasteless, but really disappointed with presentation. Meal came in a box with plastic cutlery. Was not expecting a picnic lunch at inflated prices. Lovely views would only return for tea or coffee. Also one toilet when restaurant full must be a nightmare.

After a lovely walk along Teignmouth seafront with our 2 young children, we thought we would return to Cafe Ode after not having been there for well over a year. We had always had such a positive experience there on previous visits so we were very disappointed that we ended up having to leave and go elsewhere as barely anything was available on the menu. There was nothing really that the children would have eaten and the staff were less than bothered that we had left without ordering a thing. After this experience we won’t be returning. It is evident that the owner is focusing all his efforts now on the pizza restaurant up the road.

Lovely food, classic pub grub but done well and reasonably priced. Liver was excellently cooked, slightly pink and soft and packed full of flavour. Service was good, we were checked back on, meals came promptly and cleared when finished. Nice cold wine and kids meals substantial for the price! Only marked down one star as bar is always busy (not a bad thing), but just makes it sometimes awkward leaning over drinkers to order food. However, always highly recommended for both food and drinks.

We came for Sunday carvery when we visited Dawlish. The food was good, although the beef was a bit chewy. The Yorkshire puddings were huge. Service was quick and friendly and the Covid-19 set up was good. We would return if we came back to the area.

Bovey Castle is certainly a beautiful and interesting location. However, with all their grounds parking spaces are a premium. Eventually, we were offered a space in a coned off area. A very well appointed building as your would expect for a Five Star Hotel. We began with an aperitif 'Gusbourne English Sparkling' which was superb. A absolutely delightful bar. Smith's Brasserie! Well, let's begin with the positives. Excellent welcome and staff were fantastic throughout our Birthday lunch. Extremely unimaginative menu to say the least. A nice enough starter. Perhaps would have expected freshly made mayonnaise, not from a bottle, in such an establishment. Pleasant enough bottle of rose, although there was a choice of ONE. My wife (Birthday Girl) and I opted for pasta dishes. Absolutely clueless when it comes to pasta dishes. Packet spaghetti with prawns (four small ones) and a Provencal sauce? Very little of it too. It is an Italian dish and the sauce requires mixing in the pasta. Tagliatelle, again from a packet, with some type of utterly non-descript cream sauce at the bottom of the dish. Totally unseasoned dishes. The cooking water needs to taste of the sea. Therefore, seasoned. No offer of cheese or pepper or pangrattato, nothing, and certainly no theatre. Huge improvements required I'm afraid to make an enjoyable dining experience. Dress Code: Expectations, as you would imagine were high. Staff were smart, but could have been better attired for such a hotel. Clientele: Lots of jeans and un-ironed tee shirts wondering around and dining. A pair of football shorts and dirty trainers at one table, others with feet on the chairs in the bar and the final straw was a couple arriving in towelling dressing gowns and flip flops. NO! Sorry. There's a time and a place and this is not acceptable. Unfortunately, this was a lunch to judge if a weekend stay would be appropriate for our anniversary and it simply is not good enough.

It's a pretty standard coffee shop, nothing particularly remarkable about it but the staff are reasonably friendly and service is usually fast. However it is very busy and noisy! I've always enjoyed the drinks here, although the coffee is pretty average and you can definitely get better tasting drinks elsewhere. Whenever I've sat in though, there has been a constant stream of people that come in just to use the toilet and then walk out leaving the door open (and sometimes shaking their wet hands all over the place), so there is a bit of a smell. It's not really the fault of the store but it is off-putting.
